A solid place for food and drinks. Nachos were good!!!! I got them with short rib, and they did not disappoint. Margarita was perfect. Not too sweet and syrupy like other places, they don't cheat you on the alcohol. The atmosphere has a good vibe, and the servers are lively and fun. Never leave with regrets when coming here. Great for large groups, but if you can, make a reservation.

Baja Betty’s is exactly the kind of spot you want in your rotation—great vibes, solid food, and dangerously good margaritas. We stopped in and were not disappointed. The Ceviche was a standout—fresh, citrusy, and just the right amount of seafood. We also got the Make Your Own Guacamole, which was a fun touch and made sure we had it exactly how we wanted (extra tomatoes, always). And of course, the Strawberry Margarita was perfect—sweet, but not too sweet. The energy here is lively without being overwhelming, and the service was friendly and fast. Definitely a place I’ll be coming back to.

We did takeout but my sisters love this place and wanted me to see the hype. The fish tacos were really good, next time I’ll definitely eat in store!

New favorite spot in Hillcrest! Such good food and even better service. We started with the guacamole and they brought the mix-ins on the side which was fun. I don’t eat corn and they brought sliced cucumbers for me which was so nice! For food, we got a variety of street tacos, the barria appetizer, and the carnitas plate with a Caesar salad. Huge portions and everything was great. Delicious margaritas too! Will definitely be back.

Food was just okay. The short rib tacos were really good but they needed to be drowned in the green sauce. Neither one of us finished the El pastor tacos very bland. Service was great environment is fun.

The food is SO GOOD! Our server Mayra is the absolute best! I highly recommend this place. Their happy hour special is great. I don’t usually eat guacamole, theirs is delish!

Returned to Baja Betty's for Papi Hour and had an amazing time. Happy Hour menu options are comparable to Taco Tuesdays, but there are a few differences between the two menus. Papi Hour is on weekdays from 2-6 and most of the menu items are $6.50 with a slight upcharge for certain options like adding flavors to your marg or getting it frozen. We got chips & guac ($6.50), Carnitas street tacos and chicken adobada street tacos (2 per order), and four margaritas total, and we were both full and it didn't hurt the wallet too too bad. Of all the tacos I've had here so far, the carnitas I think were my favorite. We've dined indoors this night, and it was a very different vibe from sitting out on the patio. The atmosphere is fun and lively. The servers are also always super friendly here! I love this place and will be back again.

My brother-in-law and sister in law were visiting us in San Diego from Portland and we to Baja Betty's and had some good food. Great service and had some good beer with our meal as well. A great San Diego place for a meal. Nice location near a bunch of stuff, check it out!

I don't know what the hype is but I found this place to be extremely disappointing. We sat 15 minutes at least before someone took a drink order. And while the $27.50 margarita was good, I've had better. The food was bland and the portions were meager at best. You even have to pay for chips and salsa, never had to do that at a Mexican restaurant before. Serve was sufficient but not great.....none of the food came out together and the table was too small for all the plates. You can sit outside in the cold and hope the heater keeps you warm while sucking down exhaust from all the traffic or you can cram inside with the tiki hut decor. Disappointing all around.

I love , love loooove this place , I live in north county and was out here visiting from the service to the atmosphere, it's a cool vibe . No negative Nancy's or Karen's here. It's worth the money and a trip ..

Great neighborhood spot with a great brunch menu. The service is always great. The staff is always smiling and welcoming. There is a lot of seating with a huge bar. Music usually is a mix of songs from the 80s through 2000s which warms my millennial heart. Definitely a comfortable for a decent size group to hang, eat, and drink together.

Stumbled on this place after coming back from Hillcrest's Sunday Market. Super dog friendly place with a large outdoor patio with many tables. Delicious tacos with copious sides. Great price for the quality and quantity of food. Service is super friendly and efficient. We will absolutely come back!

BajaMex food. Great service. Great ambiance and strong drinks. Their guac done in the table is my favorite. The food is ok but you go here mostly for the drinks and the ambiance.

Great spot with plenty of space! Funny and friendly staff that kept positive spirits even when they were beyond slammed on a Sunday afternoon. Food was flavorful and worth the visit.

The vibe. The service. The environment. What's not to like? You either love the place or hate it. Honestly, no in between here! The combination plate consists of rice, black or refried beans and spicy mango slaw. The spicy mango slaw was questionable at first but it is..hands down, amazing! If I could, I would've asked for more! The fish tacos, the flavors were ALL there! The most delicious fish tacos I've had in SOOO long. Hubs had the fajita quesadilla and he literally couldn't stop eating. Again, flavors were all there, the quesadilla looked like it was going to fall apart but it managed to stay together. Pay a visit. You def won't regret it. Menu has a lot to offer. There's something for everyone.

I have no complaints about this place so far in my many times of eating and drinking here. It's a fun and casual vibe, the people and service are great, and the food and drink options- there's a TON to choose from. Prices are competitive and great for what you're trying to eat or drink, especially during their weekday happy hours. Any type of drink you order, they're all strong and delicious, enticing you to come back for more.

Lets just say this place ive never felt so welcomed n yes it a place wer the gay community is huge but if u can get pass that n just see everyone as human beens then you will have fun. The people there r so kind and the food omg!!! Its amazing

I got a gift card to this place, and was making harsh judgements before going. As an SD native, the mexican food is delicious, the service is excellent (my mimosas were never empty, thank you so much Chet), and the vibe is supreme. Also, the prices are so worth a visit! For us, we had the machaca and chilequiles, and pretty much had zero complaints on execution and flavor. Will definitely come back!

Came here a couple of weeks ago for lunch to try out their nachos! SERVICE - It wasn't very crowded so we were seated fairly quickly. The waiter we had was kind. FOOD Build Your Own Nachos - We ordered the mommy size and it was huge! Portion was great for sharing. It was everything you wanted with nachos. Lots of flavor. Lots of toppings. Birria Rolled Tacos - These were a bit bland despite the dipping. Mexican Spring Roll - Felt like these were great in size but the flavor fell short. Was not too impressed w these. TJ Caesar - The dressing was flavorful. Salad was fresh. Large portion as well! Overall, we enjoyed building our own nachos. You could truly customize them!

I highly recommend this place for as a birthday spot! They came out with dessert, a sash & a crown. a great place for large parties- they have A LOT of space! The server was super on point with our large group & we never felt like we were waiting for anything. Really cute decor inside also!

The only downside of going to Baja Betty's is that it can be a little challenging to find parking. The brunch menu is fantastic including bottomless mimosas with refills typically every time a waiter walks by with the pitcher. The music is top notch and every staff member we interacted with was beyond helpful. The food is also pretty tasty and reasonably priced for San Diego brunch!

Can't go wrong grabbing a bite here or stopping in for happy hour. Servers here are always nice and make you laugh. I always get the combo plate with a chicken taco and mole chicken enchilada. The slaw that comes with it is really good too! Just wish that they were stocked and prepped for the Mexican spring rolls- My favorite app they have and it's always out! Plenty of seating either inside or outside

Came here for my friend's farewell dinner on a Saturday night around 8-10:30. It was a little packed when we got there but towards the end it died out. The inside had cute and tacky decor. To drink we ordered the Flor de Pina, and a Pacifico beer. The beer was good as expected but the flor de piña (ojo de tigre mezcal, pineapple, fresh lime half, agave nectar, tajin rim) tasted like rubber. The mezcal was the wrong tequila for this drink. It was honestly disgusting.. I told the server I did not like it and asked if I could get something else. I ordered the Mi Casa Frozen (el jimador reposado, triple sec, s&s) with frozen strawberry and mango and it was delicious! Blended so nicely it was creamy! For food, we ordered the Queso Dip (melted queso with house-made salsa fresca with a touch of jalapeño & a basket of chips) and chicken adobada quesadilla. As well as a shrimp quesadilla. The queso dip came out as a giant chip bowl in a molcajete and the dip inside. It was good dip but the server forgot our chips and brought them out to us 10 minutes later. The chicken quesadilla was good also, can't really mess that up, but I can't say the same for the shrimp quesadilla.. it wasn't good and had a very fishy taste..

4 stars because I think Baja Bettys is a really neat place. The people are so friendly and welcoming. Service is really good compared to all the places that I've dined in at. As for the food, I wasn't really impressed. I'd give the food 3 stars. I had ordered the Mama Machaca which wasn't really anything that wowed me. No real flavor that stuck with me and felt mediocre which was disappointing since the reviews made it seem as though the food was superb. I do hope to come back and try the other menu items because the place itself is an awesome place to dine at.

5 stars. Anyone looking for a positive atmosphere with good food, great drinks, a staff that just welcomes you with open arms... I mean WHAT do you want from a restaurant? Being from San Diego, I have been here numerous times. We should support our best, positive establishments. I came here today (again) and moms and dads are here. I met a a lovely table where a mom and daughter make this a regular TACO TUESDAY. We ALL want neighborhood. We ALL want belonging and welcoming. Well... this is it. Alright this has become a go to Friday spot for us or honestly any day of the week. You really can't beat their happy hour deals you can get a great deal on food and drinks and everything is super tasty. We have begun a collection of rubber duckies from all of the fugly bettys we have ordered. They are definitely a pricier drink but they are massive and worth it and will last you awhile. I love getting their loaded fries or nachos when we are there with friends. The portions are always a pretty big size so it is perfect to share. The inside is much bigger than you would imagine from seeing it on the outside but I also love that there are multiple outside tables to sit at on a nice day and they outside seating is dog friendly. The staff here is awesome and always super lively so it makes the whole experience of dining there a fun one!

Alright they have the absolute greatest service. My favorite thing to order is the Fugly Betty, the ducks are so cute and my favorite part. Lol. The food is fantastic I definitely recommend the fajitas!

Came on a Saturday afternoon & their bottomless mimosas were the main highlight. It tasted pretty good and the service was top notch! Servers were consistently filling up our drinks and made sure our glasses were full! Super accommodating and even topped us off towards the end with more champagne, which was funny! I ordered street tacos & I like the pork carnitas the best, but the beef and chicken were okay, lacked a little bit of flavor & my plate was looking oily too. Other than that though, this was a lively happening atmosphere, perfect place to drink & enjoy with friends!

Ordered the street tacos and they were delicious! Great portion. Service was good! Ate outside so the ambience was perfect. Would have had 5 stars if they offered free chips and salsa with it. Overall, I would definitely come back here again.

My wife and I went there on Thursday January 2 during happy hour. Oh boy where do I start? Not sure how it is possible they have such good reviews. The menus were filthy and the place kind of seemed dingy overall. The beer selection is absolutely abysmal, and they were out of Modelo of all things. So, we ordered margaritas and when they were served they did not have a salted rim and the server never asked which he should. I sent mine back to get a salted rim. The margaritas were simply just some mix, nothing prepared by a true bartender. We ordered the queso dip and carnitas street tacos. The server brought guacamole and chips by mistake and claimed it had been a long week. He was very low energy and not exactly pleasant. So I guess we suffer as customers because he was tired. The queso dip was definitely poured out of a tub into a cold pre-fried flour bowl. The chips although weren't stale, they were not fresh. The salsa served with the chips is also just dumped out of a can not prepared fresh at all. The tacos should have been called micro tacos because they were about 2 bites worth. They were served with a garnish of cabbage and a hot carrot which was not actually any kind of homemade carrot it was out of a can and was tasteless. Why even put it on the plate ?The carnitas was old and dry. We decided to order a short rib quesadilla and a long and fat burrito to go. The quesadilla was absolutely flavorless, barely had any cheese and served with a teaspoon of guacamole, and the same cabbage and tasteless sliver of carrot as a garnish. The burrito was also flavorless and was a combination of things dumped out of bags and reheated and stuffed into a not-authentic Mexican tortilla. Although the burrito was huge, there was absolutely no flavor at all. It is as if they think if they make the burrito big people will forget that it doesn't taste good. There are no chefs here, there are only assemblers dumping things out of bags that are premade. There is absolutely no care in preparing food here. I will never come back to this place. Ever. We spent $80 not including tip and everything was terrible. I mean literally terrible no seasoning whatsoever. The food is garbage. Oh and by the way, I had to use the restroom and the floor was soaked in urine and stank. Good job Baja Betty's. Keep it up.

Baja Betty's is a fun, lively spot known for its inclusive atmosphere, strong drinks (I always get the guava margarita), and delicious Mexican food. The place can get pretty busy towards the evening, and always packed on the weekend; however no matter how packed it is the service always creates a friendly environment.

Amazing food, great service, friendly staff, and cool ambiance. We ended up here on a whim, after the zoo was closed for being too full, and we're glad we did. Highly recommend!

This is more of a review for the ambiance! Our server Dash was such a pleasure and so friendly. He definitely made the experience better, and while I was afraid to mash my own guac, he was able to mash it for me in the back so the table didn't tip over! The drinks were definitely strong yet tasted good!

My friend invited me out and took me to Baja Betty's and boy am I glad I discovered this gem!! Their happy hour is super cheap!! You can select from a variety of drinks and food. Came here on a Thursday after work and it was pretty busy in the bar area - general dining wasn't so busy. Our server was SOOOOO amazing!! He was the sweetest. Best customer service ever.. my drink was a bit too strong for me and he came back with the extra sweet stuff for me to add into my drink, that was really nice of him doing that. He also stopped by to check on our table every now and then and he was so personable! I enjoyed the time I had at Baja Betty's thanks to his amazing customer service and the good drinks / food. The food was decent, definitely would order during the happy hour. I ordered the carnitas tacos and chicken tacos along with all the dips they had! The meat for the tacos was on a the dryer sad but still yummy. The salsa was your typical salsa and the guac was bit bland for my liking but I still enjoyed it with my friends! The cheese dip was delicious! There hot salsa for the tacos was delicious as well. The ambiance was chill and a nice place to be when you're catching up with friends and grabbing a few drinks and bites. There is plenty of seating from inside and out! So if you're feeling the outside vibe?m, you can request to sit outside. Rest assured, they have the portable heater stands out there so you don't have to worry about being cold later in the day! Overall, great experience and plan on coming back for taco Tuesday!

Baja Betty's is my go-to bottomless mimosa brunch spot! I always suggest it to friends when they're looking to have a good time getting day drunk on the weekends. Bottomless mimosas is $15 with a 2 hour limit. The drinks have a heavy pour and will in deed ensure you to have a good time. The food is $12-17 for HUGE portions and very solid quality. Their plates are shareable and your meal includes a complimentary chips and salsa. The service is amazing and all the servers are so sweet and fun! The location is great and you're able to walk to the farmers market after or even explore the other bars and amenities in the area.

The atmosphere here is so warm and welcoming. The outdoor area was beautiful as well. The food was fresh... the green chile queso I will be craving again! The Mango Neada was so good as well! Will definitely be back!!

Baja Betty's is a safe bet. Food is always good and the service is great. They have bottomless mimosas and love to keep your glass full.

We had driven three and a half hours to get to San Diego from L.A. and this was the perfect place to have dinner. Great food, fun drinks and our waitress was friendly and on top of things. Great vibe all around. 100% recommend!

This is a great spot for $6 Papi Hour (what they call Happy Hour LOL) on weekdays from 2-6 pm. This isn't a place where I would go and later say, "the food there was delicious"... but rather " Wow what a great time we had!" Haha come here if you wanna get LIT.

My partner and I are in the process of moving to Hillcrest. As we are moving to the neighborhood, we wanted to try some of the local spots, and this place came highly recommended. Our visit confirmed the great reviews we had seen. Upon entering the shop, the staff treated us like old friends, engaging in friendly conversation and chatting about the fun art of pop queens and stars adorning the walls. We ordered the fish tacos and the sizzling steak fajitas, both of which were absolutely delicious and fresh. To complement our meal, we ordered a piña colada-style drink, which was incredible and perfectly crafted. The vibe of the place was friendly and sunny, contributing to an all-around great time. We felt right at home and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We will definitely be going back again and look forward to exploring more of their menu.

Cute place. Our server was Mark. Very sweet, kind and attentive. We appreciate it. The food was good and flavorful. My hubby enjoyed the guava margarita but the horchata drink was way too sweet! The avocado tacos were yummy and the mahi mahi tacos were filling as well. We had to try the dessert and chose the sundae bowl. Yummy.

I had a private event at back door Betty's and I cannot rave about it enough! Chris is an amazing event coordinator and the sweetest and most friendly guy you'll ever meet! The ambience is beautiful and the food is really good. The price is very reasonable. I highly recommend booking a private party if you are looking for a space. There are many local fun bars nearby to continue your party afterwards.

Came here for a day and had a blast! Thermosphere is super cute. We set at a high top table outside. Ordered the item that comes with three tacos and all the tacos were pretty tasty unfortunately can't remember exactly which tacos we ordered but they were all really good. Also, the drinks are really strong!

I wish I had a better experience, I often see a crowd and thought it has to have something. It was very slow, happy hour time, the inside decor was lacking, we sat outside surrounded by plastic. Menus were dirty, tables felt dirty. We ordered some happy hour items and food to go. Everything was tasteless, from a can or food service. We ordered the queso, the chips seemed old, street tacos, the carnitas was hard, margaritas were just ok, we got food to go, including the short rib quesadilla, which seemed to have no cheese with lack luster meat and their 18in burrito with the tortilla burnt on one side with a bunch of ingredients that were bland. The experience felt like no one cares about the ambiance or food quality. I don't understand all the 5 stars, I will not be returning nor ever recommending this establishment.
