Twin Cities Dining Experts’ Favorite Meals of 2022 | Eater Twin Cities

"A full-on omakase dinner there with a spirits pairing was a non-stop onslaught of top‑notch fish (and A5 Wagyu and other delicacies) prepared with a ton of care and skill; I enjoyed it along with Mike Norton of Baja Ontario, and it was almost too much food, flavor, and entertainment, but not quite." - Eater Staff

~ Standards Have Dropped ~ I’ve been to Baja Craft Kitchen several times before and have slowly noticed the decline in quality. This visit was a real letdown. Our table spent over $100, and for that price you expect both consistency and care. The $14 fish tacos were the biggest disappointment barely any fish inside one taco, and just batter in the other. The tuna tostadas were drowned in hot sauce, and the ceviche also fell flat, lacking the freshness and flavor that used to set this place apart. Service was friendly but scarce, and a real peeve was having items we didn’t order show up, or extras added onto things we did. At this point, the food no longer justifies the cost. Baja Craft Kitchen was once a reliable go to spot, but unfortunately the standards have dropped noticeably.

We came here for a birthday dinner a few weeks ago and it was amazing!!! Our server, Emily, was super attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. We tried pretty much everything on the menu. The masa chips were surprisingly good, and as a group, we all agreed that the shrimp and bulgogi tacos were our favorites. That said, everything was so delicious it was hard to choose! Although it's definitely on the pricier side, I'd love to come back!!

Came here for my birthday and ordered their Quesabirria tacos. As a Mexican I can say their tacos have really great flavour and are truly delicious. However, my mom had ordered some Enchiladas and they were not as good as we were expecting and we were a bit confused on the overall dish. I would come here again but mostly just for the Quesabirria!

If you’re looking for a vibrant spot with incredible food and top-notch service, Baja Kitchen in Kingston is a must-visit! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm, inviting, and full of energy—perfect for a casual night out or a fun gathering with friends. The service was absolutely amazing—friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the menu. A special shout-out to the Masa chips: crispy, flavorful, and unlike anything you’ll find elsewhere. They set the tone for an unforgettable meal. We ordered the tacos, and they were nothing short of spectacular—fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and perfectly balanced. Pair that with their margaritas (which were phenomenal), and you’ve got the ultimate Baja experience. We honestly can’t wait to go back. Baja Kitchen is a gem in Kingston—highly recommended!

Way too loud!!!! Although the restaurant was busy the noise level in there made it almost impossible to talk across our table. We had to move tables because it was so loud! Our server kindly moved us to another table, which was a bit better but not much. The food was average and I found it a bit over priced for the portions. Not sure we would return.

The highpoint of the experience was probably the drinks served. The food was average at best and they somehow managed to mess up making a simple churro. The birria tacos were not good at all and the quesadilla was wet and soggy. The wait time was around an hour and waiting that long for average at best food as well as expensive was definitely not worth it. Would get better quality and service at a food truck. Definitely would NOT recommend.

My boyfriend and I have been in a few times and gotten the same server, I believe she said her name was Mel. She is absolutely incredible. I am super picky and indecisive, but she always comes through with the best recommendations & she always has patience ! The past few times we’ve been in, she’s had a couple super big tables and has been very busy, but the service is always incredible. She is always extremely professional but personable and she really makes the experience at Baja better! Make sure to ask for Mel’s section if she’s in, you won’t regret it!

Yelp
First time here. The overall experience was great! We were here for a grad celebration. So were many others. It was busy. Also, well executed by the staff. The decor is dark, mood lit, very nice location. This restaurant is known for its margaritas. The bar was energized. The food was quite good. I ordered the portobello taco, and the cucumber salad. Both incredibly delicious! Everyone at our table enjoyed the food, and the experience! The waitress was friendly and answered our questions with a smile. The food came as it was ready, so it felt staggered, but we were already busy eating, so it works, we all enjoyed it! Do I recommend this place, absolutely. We had reservations, and I would encourage you to do the same.

Yelp
Started off with a Viejo and Coastal marg - delicious and promptly served. The taco's, shareable and carrots were super tasty. Finished off with the churros - served hot and sweeeet. The service was excellent. Our server, Emily, was super helpful, friendly and regularly brought out our food at a good pace. The restaurant was pretty cool inside and the bar was busy the whole time making awesome cocktails Great food and drink experience

Yelp
This place is a good find in Kingston! Being from California, I'm pretty biased to my Mexican food but this was close! The blue corn masa chips are 10/10, way thicker than regular tortilla chips but warm, salty and chewy. An order doesn't come with any salsa, you have to get those separately - recommend he avocado and roja. Margs were fantastic (all cocktails were), I got the Pina which was great. The tacos are solo ordered and fairly expensive depending on what you get for just one. I got the quesabirria (you have to order the broth separately for extra) and the tuna 'tostada' which was essentially poke on a palm-sized wonton chip. Good food and quite expensive, but a great place to stop in regardless.

Yelp
Female staff were nasty right from the get go. Fish Tacos were good. Drinks very expensive. Table set up made it too crowded and noisy.

Yelp
Being a world traveller with the Royal Canadian Navy. I can honestly say these were the best tacos i've ever had. The service was outstanding.

Yelp
A new kingston spot that has been open for 8-12 months, tucked away in a busy spot in town right beside the waterfront and city hall. Has a relaxed upscale dining experience considering it is in kingston. Tacos are around $7 each and are a bit on the small end but the establishment clearly wants to go for a fancy vibe. The staff are friendly but the service was a bit slow. Had some trouble getting a table (they had to check) for 5 when it was pretty much empty cause a reservation was set for the later table 2 hrs later. There are some pros and cons of coming here The food was generally tasty! All food items were well liked by our dining party, aside from a few items I did not care much for. The tuna taco is more a poke bowl vibe in a hard shell tortilla. The blue chips are a fan favorite and are both crispy and chewy (really interesting). PROS -in a great location -large variety of tacos to choose from -great margaritas with many different variations -lots of protein and generous amount if meat and fish on the tacos for the price point -simple and good quality ingredients CONS - a bit inconsistent with food: cerviche one day was fairly different than another time (maybe they are modifying menu items still -you may still feel hungry after -if you dont like a super salty rimmed margarita it may not be for you (its quite salty) -alot of the margaritas are spicy with peppers if you dont like spice
