The Hottest New Restaurants to Try Around Baltimore

"D.C.-area restaurateur Scott Parker brought his hip taqueria to Fells Point last fall. The 7,000-square-foot space with a sizable patio pairs Baja California-styled street foods with multiple margaritas by the glass or pitcher and Mexican beers on tap. The menu also carves out room for tostadas, crab-topped guac, loaded nachos, quesadillas, and offbeat tacos like a shaved ribeye-and-queso Philly Philly creation. Weekday happy hour (4 p.m. to 7 p.m.) brings $4-and-up orders to the table." - Jess Mayhugh, Tierney Plumb

Went for Taco Tuesday 11/28 ordered the Baja margarita x2, queso, 3 chicken & 3 steak tacos. The first margarita was incredible, second one was disgusting due to way too much salt. Bar tender remade drinks and were not salty but still not as good as the first one. All 6 tacos were cold within the 4 minutes it took for me to wash hands. Chicken was dry and heavily relied on provided sauces. Steak wasn’t too bad. Queso tasted like it came out a jar and the spinach was added to it. Customer experience was good but kind of weird. We got to seat ourselves and had to order food from our phone. The only interaction was food being dropped off and the manager walking around asking if everything is okay. No complaints from me but hard to rate the actual experience. I’m hoping it was just a bad day and will return.

I recently visited this Mexican restaurant at the waterfront, and while the location and ambiance are undeniably charming, the food and service left much to be desired. We started with a margarita pitcher, which was mediocre at best—too much ice diluted the flavor, making it forgettable. The nachos were bland, and the tacos (we tried carnitas, carne asada, and pollo) were all dry and flavorless. The churros were decent, but the chocolate dip tasted off, which was a letdown. Another odd aspect is the ordering system—you have to place your order through an app, which is convenient in theory. However, with a 20% gratuity automatically added, it feels unnecessary, especially when you're ordering stuff yourself. Overall, I'd say it’s a pass unless you're just looking for a nice place to sit by the water.

Came for dinner Thursday night and sat at the bar. There was plenty of space and I think word has not gotten out about this place yet. The weather was nice, so the 15 or so tables outside were quite popular; inside, I had my choice of seats. I get the sense by summer time, I’ll be waiting for a seat, especially on a nice weather day. The two bartenders were on point with their service and knowledge. They were classically trained and I asked them to make me whatever they wanted me to have. I had a smoky Paloma, and I was pleasantly surprised. I typically don’t like smoky drinks; give me a peaty scotch, and I become a shame to be around. But this was super balanced. If I didn’t know it was called a Smokey Paloma, I would have just said, “damn, this is a good drink; what’s that flavor?” Then Kat and Travis made me probably the best Old Fashioned I’ve ever had. Okay, let’s hit the food! The tacos are stupid good! I ate like a pig with carne asada tacos, chorizo, Burria and kat said I couldn’t leave without trying the rockfish taco (she was right to say that…really good!). I had the street corn for dessert cuz I’m that kind of guy. The street corn was charred just the right amount and topped with the mayo/cheese mix. Next time I’m gonna ask for less mayo, given it was squeezed on thickly from a plastic bottle, I assume. I think it would go from a 9 to a 10 with a thin counting of mayo all around the corn as a binder for more cheese and cilantro all around; but damn, it is still really good as is! The location is on the SW tip of Fells Point, so it’s clearly not getting much foot traffic, but it will blow up in the summer, given it will be the restaurants first summer ever. Go check it out! Tell Kat and Travis I said hello!

A beautiful new addition to the city!! Their opening week menu was limited but still had so many options, their Happy Hour specials were really great, and they have a variety of Baltimore local/craft beer on draft which was awesome to see! The bartenders and servers were amazing, the atmosphere was beautiful (especially at sunset), and the food and drinks were perfect. A new favorite spot, and they have a location in Adams Morgan, DC

I had a great time at Baja Tap! The food is great! We literally walked in because we could smell their food outside 😂 The bartender Travis was VERY attentive and his drinks were so good! He gave my sister and I, some very informative information about Tequila. If you visit ask for Travis he’s super personable and he had great vibes. I cant wait to come back and bring a few friends.

Google
We stopped here just to check it out and I was pleasantly surprised. the Philly Philly and the Surf and turf were wonderful. I got a side of plantains that were served with a dipping sauce I think everyone should try. I would put that sauce on everything! Payment was totally electronic and you can keep a tab open for all those happy hour people😁. Service was fast and the staff was attentive. The environment was inviting for all ages. I will definitely stop by again when I come out there.

A group of our employees dined on the outdoor patio with our dogs for a team bonding and had a great time! 10/10 food, drinks and service. So excited to welcome another fantastic dog-friendly business to Fells Point. Thanks, Baja! We’ll be back 😀

Yelp
Well, this my first time! Very big place! I think the place renovated. Because tables lokma very new. Wings is veeery yummy! Burrito was tasty but it was so wet. I couldn't eat, ı put it to plate and eat by fork. Margaritas was good. There is alsa tables outside. It should be very nice when the weather nice! You scan the menu and order yourself and pay by card. There was a something wrong and the barmaid took us our order. Orders came fast! PS: at the woman restrooms, hanger on the toilets door was broken!

Yelp
Went on July 15 and sat at the bar, there wasn't any other customers around. There was a shorter young woman with black hair working the bar, she treated us like we were annoying her for being there. She was short with us and had an attitude if we asked a question. We were going to leave but we had already ordered the drinks. We ordered the food, it was mediocre. My husband got the 3 for $14 tacos. Just meat, you don't get any sides. No rice or beans. Flavor was medicine, unfortunately those were not a win. The location is beautiful and the restaurant is large and clean. Hopefully they find friendlier staff to work the bar

Yelp
My friends and I took our usual stroll to get In some exercise. After 3 miles, needless to say we were thirsty and hungry. It was a beautiful day and the perfect time to try Baja Tap. The place was pretty empty, which was strange for such a nice day. We chose our seating right by the outside and were greeted pretty quickly. They had self serve water out which was a big help after our long walk. I wasn't starving so the wife and I split a chicken quesadilla and some baked wings. The quesadilla was tasty but I was a little upset that we paid for 12 wings and only received 11. I know that sounds fat but hey, I want what I paid for. The wings were pretty good but did not taste baked. I'm assuming they still flash fried them. Anyway, this place wasn't bad but it also won't be on the top of my list.

Yelp
This location is very large. There is a communal feel to it because of the benches. When ordering, everything is online and the food/drink is brought out to you. There is no real servers and interactions with staff. The food was good. I got the tots. There were lots of flavor - a little heavy on the lime squeeze.

Yelp
This place really looks different as Baja tap than it did as Bond Street Social. It's much more airy and light in there, which is a nice change, IMO. A friend and I stopped by b/c we were on an Egg Nog Bar Crawl and we were hungry. The egg nog we received right away was delicious. We took our egg nog with us to the bar where we sat to order and subsequently eat. I plucked a menu off the bar top and shared it with my friend. It would have been nice had the bartender given each of us a menu but as it was, it took a while for us to even be acknowledged. I was pretty disappointed when looking at the menu, which was for brunch, and I decided to order 3 tacos for $14, then saw that NONE OF THE SIDES go with tacos. It's all breakfast sides which I DON'T WANT WITH A TACO. I want refried beans and rice or guacamole, chips and salsa at the least. How is this a taco place with no proper taco sides??? The good news is even tho the tacos are VERY BARE (no tomato or accouterments at all really) the meats were well seasoned. I gobbled up everything. So, I'll be back for more tacos, but I won't be back for brunch until they get some true taco sides.

Yelp
I've seen so many stories and posts about this place as it recently just opened. I came with a friend over the weekend for an early dinner. The outdoor seating is huge but the inside is even bigger. It's a super casual seat yourself restaurant. To order, there are barcodes on the tables that get sent to the kitchen or bar - I do like the convenience of this. My friend and I placed a group order for our own tacos and shared a chicken quesadilla. The two tacos I ordered were the Camaro and Chorizo. Everything came out quickly and all at once. My tacos were lukewarm and tasted pretty good. The chicken quesadilla didn't have a ton of flavor and was ok tasting to me. The service was also ok as our plates were just plopped down in front of us with no acknowledgements even after saying thank you to the servers who brought them out. Overall, it was a decent experience with decent food. I would rate it 3.5 stars but giving them 4 to be nice since they're still new. I'll check them out again later down the line to see how service and food are again once they're more settled.

Yelp
A solid taco spot in Baltimore. This place is large and has lots of communal seating inside and outside. You order with a QR code at your table and food comes out fast. I tried a few of the tacos, queso fundido, corn ribs and the peach sangria. Overall, everything was good, but nothing was remarkable. Its just a solid spot to get tacos and margs with reasonable prices.

Yelp
Whatever issues were there opening weekend seem to have been sorted out! The service was super fast and friendly, and the food came out quickly as well. We got a bunch of different tacos and apps to share and enjoyed all of the options. The nachos especially were killer, and the salsas were really really good. The atmosphere is welcoming and laid back, and the communal seating is a nice touch. At a glance, this place looks to be a worthy successor in a prime location

Yelp
*NEW RESTAURANT ALERT* @bajatapbar is now open in Fells Point! Have you been??? Here's what I had: Birria Taco...10/10 Corn Ribs...9/10 Maryland Rub Wings...8.5/10 (these could have gotten a 10 BUT the Old Bay overpowered the rub) Service...8/10 Great place for family and friends. *It's community seating* #baltimorefoodblog #baltimorefoodie #baltimorefoodfinder #baltimoreblogger #baltimorerestautants #eatmorebmore #charmcityfood #charmcityeats #dmvfoodfinder #dmvfoodie #dmveats #dmvrestaurants #eastcoasteats #marylandeats #blackgirlblogger #blackgirleats #blackgirlfoodie #newfoodfinds #boujieblackgirl #wherewebouttoeatat #bmorecity #bmorecityfood #bmorecountyfood #fellspointfood #fellspointrestaurants #explorefellspoint #newbaltimorerestaurant

Yelp
This place is brand new, and as a result, it has a limited menu and is experiencing some new restaurant growing pains. We went in on Friday night and sat at the bar and had drinks and a few dishes. The carnitas tacos were very, very good, as was the guacamole. The street corn ribs were tasty - they were seared on a grill and covered in cheese and herbs. However, instead of giving you the entire ear of corn or cutting the kernels off and giving you a bowl, they cut the cob in quarters. So you end up picking up a tiny strip of corn and having to eat it like an ear of corn. It was weird and unnecessarily messy. Also, chips and salsa do not appear to be an option on the menu. When we asked for salsa to dip the chips in, several waiters seemed confused. However, both the green and red the salsas are really good. If they sold it by the jar I would buy some. The staff was very friendly, but still clearly learning the menu, but if one person didn't have an answer for us, they were quick to find someone who did. Overall, I'll be trying this place again when the menu expands.

Yelp
Really good tacos and a great space! This is a good spot to watch the game or just get a meal and drinks.

Yelp
Had the pleasure of dining here last night with some friends and we really enjoyed the decor/ambiance. It had community style tables as well as regular tables which is great for large/ small parties. I'm lactose intolerant and a taco lover so I was immediately attracted to their wide variety of tacos.

Yelp
Baja tap just recently opened after a long wait, this was my first visit early on a Friday evening for a quick dinner. I got two Carnitas tacos, the Baja tots, and the Baja margarita. The Baja tots were pretty tasty, and definitely filling, but I question whether the Caras was freshly made in house, and found tacos to be running a bit behind the pack compared to some of the other Mexican restaurants around Fells Point. The margaritas were OK, but poured from a bottle of premix, and tasted pretty average. In all, Baja tap, seems like a decent place to come for happy hour, or to catch a special, but I think I might be a bit less impressed with the value if the specials weren't offered.

Yelp
If you are looking for good food and good customers service this is the place. I recently hosted a small private event in their very pretty bright and airy event room. My event went so well. Compliments to the staff for making everyone feel welcomed and seen. Thank you making my special day perfect. Thank you Travis for the drinks and laughs. Thank you to Henry and Kevin for checking on me to make sure everything was going well. I will be back again to enjoy mocktails and tacos on the patio.

Yelp
I went opening weekend for Baja Tap. Local residents will know this as the former Bond Street. Baja Tap also is a chain from AdMo in DC. This will be my new sports bar in fells. They have great TVs, sound for the football game - they played the SNL and the Cowboys v Eagles game with sound. They have both indoor outdoor patio. The only confusing part is you order and pay through toast - but you can also order through the servers. Prices are a little higher - $7 for a high noon, but the tacos are decent for Baltimore, for me this spot is much better than Barconcina food wise. So glad they're finally open, and it's a good place to watch sports as sports bars are generally lacking in the area. The bathroom and decor is brighter than when it was bond street.

Yelp
I have been to Baja Tap twice. Once to check it out and have a drink and then next time was a quick stop to layer my stomach to start an Eggnog Crawl. The staff was very friendly. I had been in the previous restaurant in this space and they really lighten it up. It is like walking into a beach restaurant off a city street. The margarita is made with homemade sweet and sour that was perfect, because that store bought stuff is too sweet. And the spicy margarita was indeed spicy. Sometimes restaurants tone the spicy margarita down, but not at Baja Tap. But it was still drinkable. It didn't make you cry like you were in a hot wing eating contest. Of the two tacos I had, the Carne Asada was my favorite. I don't know what they marinated that steak in, but it was very flavorful. There is an honorable mention to the way the pineapple tidbits paired with the Al Pastor. The tacos didn't have much in the way of other toppings but I'm thinking Baja Tap really wanted you to just enjoy the tacos. I look forward to going back to try other menu items when I'm in less of a rush.

Yelp
Stepping into this new taco spot is an exciting journey with endless possibilities. The space is inviting and boasts great potential, though there are areas that could benefit from a few tweaks to enhance the overall experience. Nevertheless, it's already become a versatile venue, perfect for intimate date nights, lively group outings, and casual hangouts for college students alike. As anticipation builds for the summer, the promise of utilizing the outdoor space hints at even greater experiences to come, adding another layer of excitement to an already promising dining destination. With its combination of ambiance, versatility, and potential, this taco spot is undoubtedly one to watch as it continues to evolve and flourish.

Yelp
We have been going weekly since they opened but our past two experiences have been awful. The food is honestly pretty good but the service is awful. Servers don't have answers to basic questions, or even attempt to help. We asked about why we could only see a single menu item on the link and were given a shrug. Not having regular menus/servers is fine if the technology works but food was delivered to empty tables and servers just responded oh it's not out yet. It wasn't until we check the ticket at the empty table with the food we ordered on it two tables down that we realized it was ares. Don't go on a busy day. No one able to help you or even attempt to get a refund when you inevitably don't get your food.
google avatar

Vishal K.

Yelp
Came in here for the Ravens Chiefs game and I think I found my new favorite sports bar in the area. I love being able to order on my phone and have all the food and drink come out super fast. Way better system than waiting on a server who may get busy. My wife and I got a mix of different food items. Wings, tacos, a burrito, and plantains. Everything was on point and pretty good but those plantains are like crack. I couldn't stop eating them. I ended up ordering two more. All in all great food, extremely fast service, and friendly staff.

Rose P.

Yelp
I went to Baja Tap for happy hour. The inside was bright, and modern. My friend and I ordered two margaritas ($8) which were great. I got the queso fundido, which wasn't as flavorful as I'd hoped (I was mostly looking for regular queso) and my friend got a quesadilla which she enjoyed. To order you scanned a QR code and the servers would bring you your food but ordering was contactless.
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
I stopped by here yesterday with a group of friends for a Sunday funday. Everyone had a great time! The atmosphere was a lot of fun and the drinks were delicious! I could drink the skinny cucumber margarita all day. The tacos and queso were on point too. The Philly Philly was definitely a crowd pleaser for the group. I'm a vegetarian and loved the cauliflower tacos!! They were so good. The service was very prompt and the waiters/ waitresses were super friendly. I loved being able to order more on my phone whenever I needed a drink refill. Will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Terry A.

Yelp
Food is good, needs some slight improvements but overall very tasty and much better than similar cuisine in the area. The staff is awesome. Manager is super cool and the vibe of the place is sick. The college party's seem to be doing good as it's the best nights they have
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered a drink- pleasant staff, no one else much there, but when time for a second drink, myself along with another group came to an empty bar, no one there, wait, call out, nothing, then decided to go back and find some staff- in the empployee entry only door, and found someone raging out cursing that I should not have been there, and when we try to tell him, we were after some service, he got even more aggro, and so we reacted strongly back, but of course, he knew nothing, and cared nothing about our pedicament, and then returned to his hideaway until the staff at the bar casually came back, they had been outside sunning themselves, and said, we were only away for 5 minutes, 10 minutes in which time no one got served and someone could have run away with the licquor cabinet- a bit unusual I must admit for friendly Baltimore, but it has been a hot day and people get hot on hot days- but we will not be back. Bye Bye Baja.

Brittany D.

Yelp
Went with a large group of people so the long tables were PERFECT! Drinks tasted amazing and service was super fast. All the food was delicious with a good choices and variety in appetizers main course meals. Staff was also very nice. I accidentally left a bag under my seat and came back for it an hour later and they brought it out of the back room for me where they had put it for safekeeping. Thank you so much! Oh, and I will be dreaming about those sweet plantains for weeks.

Yelp
Replacing a stalwart in the waterfront area, this place has promise. Some growing pains during their opening week will hopefully be figured out once the business picks up. Reservations: none needed and we were able to walk in as a group of 5. Ambiance: casual, sports bar, family friendly. We went for their opening week and sat outside and then moved indoors. Lots and lots of outdoor benches/seating, which will be great during the warmer months. No TVs outdoors, but speakers were able to project Sunday Night football outside. Food: order via QR code, and staff bring you your order. Easy to divy up the bill among a large group because you can start your own order. But there were snafus with the entire menu showing up. Wouldn't say this is very authentic Mexican and the tacos were decent; wings were nice and saucy and pretty good. Loaded nachos were great to share. Drinks: many draft and bottle options for beer. Margs are decent (maybe a touch heavy on the ice which dilutes the drink over time) and priced at $13. Likelihood to return: 10/10, will have to come check out the Happy Hour (5-7 on week days) which discounts margs to $7 and $5 beers. Would be a good hangout spot after work with friends.

Yelp
Went on a Friday night around 8 for dinner and drinks. We ordered using the QR code on the table and had our food/drinks within minutes. Service was quick, food was good, drinks were great! Music was fun and upbeat. Light and airy vibes, perfect for the summer! Will definitely be back.

Yelp
It was decent not bad. If you are familiar with the location, this place replaced Bond Street Social. I will say this they did a fantastic job with the renovations, tons of TV's, i met my cousin there so we just sat at the bar. It was empty but a steady stream of customers started coming in. At least when i went the place was chill, i see me going there again a lazy sunday just to watch some football or somin. Anywho on to the food, i ordered a bunch of tacos lets start from my favorite to the least. Also they did not have a lot of items lol, i guess its whatever is left for the sunday crowd inventory wise. The best was the al pastor taco, then the carne asada the could have done with a pinch of salt, the philly philly was similiar to a cheessteak taco version. My least favorite was the chorizo taco and the rock fish. The rock fish could have done with some salt and a good seasoning. The drinks were ok, they had wings on the menu so ordered that. It was ok. All in all chill spot, at least when i went in the afternoon on a sunday.

Jennifer A.

Yelp
I went to Baja tap a few weeks ago for brunch and loved it! The bloody Marys and carne asada tacos were great. The prices of the food and drinks were very reasonable too. I have been waiting for this place to open and so happy that it rocks. In addition, I loved the space. It is a perfect place to host a party or networking event. Lastly, our server was so nice and efficient. I cannot wait to go back to Baja tap for brunch, lunch, and dinner!

Yelp
I was so excited to try this new spot, my friend and I sat at the bar 15 minutes, the bartender never acknowledged us. there were 3 people at the bar, we were patient and understanding but eventually just got up and left because he passed by us several times, cleared empty bar seats all without even acknowledging we were there. another hit and miss for fells.

Emily D.

Yelp
Good place for fast service and tacos. I had the carne asada, carnitas and birria tacos. They were all very tasty. Seems like a great place for large groups/ parties. Drinks were a bit pricey and the chips were cold.

Jorge G.

Yelp
All terrible, staff was extremely rude and unprofessional, will not be coming here again, tried to host an event and staff was completely unresponsive. Service was subpar and food was even worse than the service somehow, avoid coming here at all costs.

Christina H.

Yelp
The service was good but the food was not great. We ordered Queso to start and it just tastes like can queso. We also ordered it as an app and it came out after our tacos. We tried to order several different tacos but after ordering we were told they were out of most of the things we ordered. They were all out of all the vegetarian options.

Kim E.

Yelp
The best shrimp tacos ever and such a great margarita selection! A fun place to get a big group of people together to watch sports games. Can't wait to come back!

Mark B.

Yelp
Sat at one of the longer bench tables with a large group to watch football. Service was prompt (all handled through QR code/website, and allows group tabs vs individual which is nice) and the food and drinks were great. The restaurant area is huge and we had no issues watching the many TVs around.

Shane T.

Yelp
Food was INCREDIBLY salty. Informed the Manager who said "the cook tasted the food and said it's fine". I asked that the manager to try the food and he refused. No waiter or waitress to speak with. All food is ordered on your phone. Horrible experience.

Amy G.

Yelp
This place is great! It's super comfortable and convenient. They use a QR code so you can order whatever & whenever. That just means the servers are in your face less, which we really like. We sat at the bar and it's still really friendly but not pushy. The place is huge and tons of TVs for football. The food is really good and we are from San Diego that has the best Mexican food and still give this place 5 stars. Don't under estimate the place, it's in a great location, right on the corner of Bond St & Thames. Highly recommend!

Anuj A.

Yelp
great food and full of flavor. the service was quick and very friendly. the decor is modern, clean, and a great place for a date or a night out with friends or after work. will definitely be back!
