Bake Culture

I loved the tangzhong bolo bao ($3)--so sweet and milky with great chew. The bolo crust on top could've been crispier, but it still felt light and airy. The black sesame mochi ball ($5) was thick and flaky and filled with dense, sweet black sesame paste. The crunchy sesame seeds and sticky mochi were a hidden gem. A divine bite--I wish it lasted longer .

The place is super cute to chill at with chairs that look like croissants and a great view to the bridge. The service was super quick and definitely provided what I asked for. My mango green tea tasted to what I like it to be and it was refreshing for a hot day. I tried their mango pomelo cake and it was super good. It wasn't sweet and the cake was so soft to eat. They have many other options as well but the mango pomelo definitely recommended.

Despite the high prices, I do get the hype of their baked breads. I love the chewiness of the bread, and the flavor is on point. I got to try a few different types from Taro bun (beautiful purple color with hints of taro flavor), Pork Floss bun (this was okay, because I don't really like the mayo-gooeyness inside), Pineapple Roast Pork Bun (this was pretty good, the sweet crunch on top was delish, the interior roast pork bun was okay). Next time, I wanna try the pineapple bun by itself.

Bake Culture is a small coffee and pastry shop in Downtown Manhattan. They offer a good selection of bread, pastry and coffee. They have few other locations in the city. They remind me of 86 degree bakery in SoCal. We ordered two pastry bread for a late night snack. Staff was competent. Indoor vibe was relaxing. Prices are competitive. Overall, We had a good order experience.

Food (4/5): Got a lychee rose cake for my bday and a hot caramel macchiato. Both were pretty good and enjoyable. Service (4/5): No issues with the service. They gave us tap water when asked and were able to get our drink and cake as well. They weren't particularly friendly when greeting or talking with us but got things done. Ambiance (4/5): Nice spacious spot with a couple tables and bench seating. The bench seating is a bit cold when the door opens but the tables are nice and have outlets nearby.

Bake Culture to me is 4.2/5! But this review is for Mooncake and it's probably 3.75/5 - pretty small & pricy. Then it has to be YUMMMY but unfortunately it was okay as the egg yolk was so dry. Mooncake Lotus & Egg Yolk $4.99 for a tiny one , lotus paste was good but egg yolk was so dry. Mooncake Red Bean & Egg Yolk $5.99 too expensive for what it is.

Like how this bake culture is very quiet and not that many people are occupied in it. Cute seats too and very organized self display shelves all around the bakery of different pastries, breads, and cakes! My favorite are the egg custards and German pudding cake! The egg custards are baked to a nice crispy touch around the edge. The egg custard in the middle is very silky and fresh. Just the right consistency and sugar levels are balanced out correctly. The German pudding on the other hand is not as sweet as the egg custard. The pudding is more gooey to the touch and skin on the outer edge is softer and chewy. I like the skin of the egg custards more since it's much more fried and crispier. I also had a walnut bread and it was alright. The crispy small walnuts kept falling off of the bread so that was annoying. The bread also had raisins inside if you keep biting into it. The good thing I like about Bake Culture is that they packaged sealed tight all their baked goods so they don't fall out of their plastic packaging.

I have given their toast another try, and they have successfully redeemed themselves in my book. It is finally up to par with the St. Marks location. Yay to more convenient toast for me!

Bake Culture egg tarts used to be delicious but the quality has gone downhill recently. I bought a batch yesterday and noticed they look different. The crust was much thicker, less flaky and looked burnt; the egg custard was much thinner. They tasted like low quality egg tarts. They lower the quality and charged more.

The staffs were friendly, they have lots of bread and pastries. You can order drinks as well. All the food are delicious and there are places to sit and enjoy your food and drink. They even accept credit card. Would recommend trying here!

The food was average, and the prices were a bit high. The staff's attitudes were extremely poor, and they didn't seem to have received professional training. They sat around doing their own things, playing on their phones, and chatting with each other. It felt like they were having a gathering with friends, which was completely out of place for their work.

I had high expectations for their bread since they were pricer than surrounding bakeries in Chinatown and I was greatly disappointed. I bought a TW pineapple bun, pork floss bun and a bun with lemon vanilla custard inside. Bought them in the afternoon and had them in the evening and they were all very hard and dry. The lemon vanilla custard was semi soft but the cream filling was too much and lemon was way too sour. It did not balance with the bread at all.

What a cute and fun bake shop! When I stopped in on May 14, they had just opened and were setting up. They have a variety of buns, layered desserts and sweet breads along with coffee and water. The layout makes it super easy to see everything on their shelves and all of the matcha cakes are stored in the glass case. I ordered the matcha layered cake and been curd pastry ball. Both were so so so good. The match cake was light and airy and the bean curd was delicious. I did warm it up a bit to soften the bean curd which I highly recommend if you're waiting a few days to enjoy it. When I'm in the area again, I will definitely be back for my dessert.

The location is quite convenient and easy to find. Indoor has few tables for people to hang out. I saw some people on their laptop as well. My recommendations are the egg tart and the rainbow toast. These two are good for breakfast and afternoon dessert. I haven't tried their drink yet so I'm not sure how good the drinks are.

With the plethora of options in Chinatown, Bake Culture holds its ground. It has a great selection of sweet and savory treats you can find at your neighborhood Asian bakery (hot dog buns, coconut cream pastries, pillow breads, etc), plus ones with their own twists (such as a chocolate dusted, cream filled flaky puff). This location has ample seating and seems to be a popular spot to work. Service is fast and efficient.

Small little store with plenty of things to offer starting from beverages like boba tea to coffee to varieties of desserts! I loved the seatings they had. You can sit down and enjoy the view of the road while taking a sip of your coffee and eating a piece of high quality bread.

One of the few bakeries in Chinatown that takes credit cards! The quality of breads look higher too. Loved their original bread which looks like a banana boat and is savory with nothing added (some times I'm overwhelmed by extra, unnecessary toppings!) Their lemon cream bread looks really fancy. But the filing is not that different from a filled donut which I care less about. Overall it's still great!

Big difference from the previous. Half size down now. Even Almond croissant with almond paste now, disappointed!

This was a oh, wait...they have tea walk in. We were waiting for a table at the place next door and the human needed something to hold him over. We went in and ordered a tea. He liked it and the price was right. If you have read my other reviews, you know the human enjoying it and the right price make this mama happy!

Oops I never wrote a review for this place. They're popular for their egg tarts and pineapple buns presumably because the rest of the menu is a bit pricey. By the time I get here, usually their cheapest options are sold out though once I was able to get one of their popular egg tarts as I was in earlier which was tasty though not particularly noteworthy outside the price. No photos as the last time I was here was a while ago and I don't remember taking a photo anyway. They have some pastries you generally don't find in other Chinese bakeries such as mini pineapple cakes so I presume they are Taiwanese. The inside however reminds me of Paris Baguette with the cakes in back in a glass case and the way the stuff is presented. The buns are a bit pricier here but the location is nice as it is both near the most popular restaurant in Chinatown (Joe's) as well as a good bar/gaming spot/etc. to hang out next door (OS.) I personally prefer some other spots due to the prices but they are alright. 3 for this location. A bit more for St. Marks as there's less around there.

Bake Culture is a Taiwan-based bakery that sells Asian and European-style pastries. I almost always buy their sponge cakes or pineapple buns every time I'm in Chinatown, because they're usually sold for $1 each (cash only!). It feels more in-line with Paris Bakery than of the more mom-and-pop bakeries in Chinatown. The staff seem much younger and the overall setting feels more modern.

Clean bakery in the main road of Chinatown with a delicious selection of fresh, packaged bakes. I tried the fish filet sandwich and the coconut cream. Both of which I thoroughly enjoyed. This was my second time and I'll definitely be back. Have already recommended it to a handful of people. Great service with a few table and counter seats by the window.

Me and my mom love this bakery. It's on an expensive side but the portion/flavor u got it's worth it. Limited dine in seats. Cool decorations and seating.

Their EGG TART IS TO DIE FOR! I craved for something sweet today and decided to visit chinatown and glad they still have it since few times Whenever I visit they always ran out that fast

3.5 stars for the food, but I Loved the service I got at this location. The buns I bought were a bit lackluster. This is not my first rodeo at Bake Culture as I usually frequent the Flushing/Northern Blvd. location. This visit I have to say, the best baked goods I did manage to pick were the Golden Nugget cake (coconut, yummy), the classic croissant, and the egg tarts. Only thing, many had a "burnt" top which was less than appealing. But it tasted fine otherwise. I don't usually like it that way. Truth be told their prices are a bit high especially for a Chinatown location. Each bun I picked up averaged about $2.95 each. I was disappointed by the cheese buns and the bacon ones I picked as well. Lacked in flavor somehow. Ingredients were there, just fell flat for me. The drinks were great - especially since I picked two with some fresh cut fruit in them. I'd return for those. And maybe to check out the cakes next time. But the buns I'll skip.

Bake Culture has a wide selection of savory and sweet pastries ready to be eaten. They are individually wrapped so its convenient to grab a bunch. The custard bread was my jam and both the bread and custard were fresh. They had all sorts of options so perfect for any mood. I believe they serve coffee and tea which I will indugle in next time. The matcha layer cake is my next choice and I will be back for that!

I'm all for their BC Crisps - uniquely baked pastry layered with marshmallow, pistachios, cranberries. Mochi-like texture, chewy and soft. Love this treat! $8 for the container. Tried some of their other baked breads before, quality bread and modern take on traditional Chinese breads. Two swinging benches inside.

Please be careful of their prices tag is not matching the price on their computer system. I complaints about it, but they said the price in their computer is correct. I believe $1-$2 different is not a big deal for consumers. But they knew is a mistake, they should change it right away. 在這餅店買蛋糕請注意標價及他們電腦的價錢不一樣，已經告訴他們幾次結果依舊。知錯不改！

Always get the bunny hot dog bun...sure, it's a bit gimmicky but kids love gimmicky stuff. They offer the classic fanfare as other bakeries in the area such as coconut cream, pineapple buns and croissants. I have tried their well advertised egg tarts and for the price I would say it's pretty decent. Would make another trip back when I'm in the area.

It's a small little bakery right off the main street of Chinatown. The bun was SUPER soft and there was a lot of filling. The buns were on the pricier side for about $2.89 per item.

In my quest for egg tarts in Chinatown, I found Bake Culture on Yelp and couldn't resist when I saw they had $1 egg tarts. I will say that I did find another delicious egg tart, same size, for $1.10, so the price isn't that much of a difference, but Bake Culture does accept credit cards unlike a lot of the other places in Chinatown, so that's a plus! The egg tart was freshly baked (still warm!) and very custardy - more Portuguese-style. For the $1 price point, it is well worth it. There was limited seating. I wanted to dine in but all of the seats were full so I had to go outside. Luckily it was a nice, spring day. What really earns this place five stars is the customer service. All of the employees were super friendly and their care shines through. Solid egg tart, you won't be disappointed.

Came here for dessert with Boo Boo after dinner nearby. We we're enticed with the $1 egg tart. We shared a slice mango crepe cake, the 'German pudding', an egg tart and a cold rose tea drink w/o bubbles~$14. The pudding has the same filling as the egg tart. So, best go with the egg tart. The rose tea drink was very artificial tasting as with all the other bubble drink type. crepe cake was good too but not lady M great. Walking in it definitely a Paris baguette knock off which in itself is a knock off of a French bakery in my opinion. For a twist, very handsome Asian men are decorated/displayed at the entrance and inside the place. In a bakery, I would assume there would be images of baked good stuff or a flour mill. A couple seating options inside. No rest room. The egg tart would be better if it was cooked more but still worth checking out.

So there is an error in the store hours, this location is from 9 am to 7 pm. So when in Chinatown hit up this little Taiwanese bakery. This place popped up on my radar because I stayed at the Bowery Hotel for a couple of nights and I needed a fast breakfast. I just walked outside and turned right, boom it was there. Right next to the Hotel and my car was a block down. But ever since I have fallen in Love with this place. I love Taiwanese Milk Tea and there Ramen so when I saw this bakery I was Golden! Now Taiwan is the original China so they will always get my support and love. So if you are in the area and want some mind blowing sandwiches this is the place! My security (Kiyoshi, My Akita) loves the Egg and Ham sandwiches here. Every time we get them I have to pick her up one as well.

This is a cute little spot that has delicious pastries. Beware, some of their pastries have ham in them but don't necessarily label them, so if you're vegetarian please ask before buying! The tea was delicious and the coconut bun was to die for. Would return.

After reading that Vaness Wu was a partial owner, we just had to come check this place out. The egg tarts were one sale for $1 so of course, head top pick up a few. Also ordered a few other buns to try out. Not too many bun options compared to other bakeries. Also ordered the mango green tea with green tea milk foam. It was supposed to come with cheese foam but they ran out so the green tea was the substitute. It came out more like as mango slush. We loved the egg tart as the consistency was very different compared to that of Hong Kong egg tarts. This one had more of an egg, almost omelette like consistency where as the Hong Kong egg trats are more custard like. Decor was super cute. They had 2 swings like seats by the window with huge poster boards of the celebrity owners.

Mmmmm QUALITY! It's fresh, airy, tasteful, and flavorful. Standards are palatable. Not oily at all. Mmmm will come back often!

Stopped by for a quick snack (egg tarts) and a drink before a doctor's appointment because it looked empty and I need my peace and quiet in the morning. The ordering process was smooth. The woman took my order clearly and there were no misunderstandings. I ordered the rose oolong milk tea and a 2-pack egg tarts. My egg tarts were immediate because they were just right by the counter. But my drink...was nowhere to be found...until I walked up to the counter 10 minutes later and asked them where my drink is did they FINALLY start making my drink. Not only that, but I saw ~10 customers who walked in after me get their drinks first! I'm sure this might be a minor slip up that doesn't reoccur often, but it's still unprofessional and doesn't leave a good impression on me. The egg tarts, on the other hand, are great! If you catch them at the right time, they're still kind of warm, so the custardy middle hasn't solidified all the way yet. It's just smooth and jiggly. The actual tart crust is flakey (like they should be).

Came here for the sole purpose of boba and I got it. Ordered myself a medium taro milk tea with tapioca and it did not disappoint. The boba was so nice and chewy and warm. Tasted really well with the cold drink.

There's only two things you should be getting from here, and that's the cheese tart and the lava croissant! The seats are really cute, the space is super bright due to natural lighting from the windows, but the counter and narrow set up is really inconvenient for navigation. When it's busy with tourists (from the hotel next door) in line trying to pay, good luck trying to even look at the bakery items -.- Cheese tart ($2.25) is the size of your standard egg tart (hmm, maybe a bit smaller) but I love how smooth, creamy, and milky it is. The crust is a lot harder than what I'm used to, but the filling has me sold. I can easily eat half a dozen of these babies in one sitting. SO gooey and good. (If you're looking for even better than this, then Keki's Modern Cakes has a wow tart that is slightly more amazing!) Lava croissant ($2.25): if you've been to dimsum, you've definitely had the salted egg custard bun before. The filling is exactly that, except whisked more so that it's creamier and bolder in tastes. It doesn't ooze, but it is GOOD. Their croissant is tiny, but super flaky, and the saltiness of the filling with these layers is the purrrrrfect combination. Oreo birthday cake: too much cream, but loved the inclusion of the oreo bites into it! The chocolate cake is also really light

I ordered their specialty drink Matcha latte and was expecting it to taste like what I ordered ...I was so surprised that there was no Matcha flavor. All I tasted was milk, It seems like they only put a dab of matcha, enough to color it green. And my first sip was warm even though it had ice in it. This was the most poorly made matcha latte I ever had. The lady making it was also confused and didn't know what she was doing. I didn't drink this there and would of told the manager if I was still there but I was already too far from the bakery. They really failed on living up to their goal that was posted at the front on high quality taste. I also purchased 2 hot dog buns- one had black garlic on it and German pudding. Each cost about $3. The black garlic bun was good but the other regular hotdog bun was just okay. The German pudding filling taste very similar to egg tart and the shell was like a shortbread. It was interesting but would not order again.

Got attracted by their sign of $1 egg tart and decided to give a try. Gosh, it is definitely the best egg tart I have ever had in NYC and it only costs $1! The yolk is warm and runny and the crust is layered and flakey. If you have never tried egg tart, go there and give a try! I have to say though, their egg tart is more like a pastry than the Portuguese kind so that's also a selling point if you want to experience the two kinds of egg tart! As for their other pastries, they are good looking and ok priced so I might come back another time to try but no joke the egg tart is the best!!

We were looking for egg tarts in Chinatown and were told that this is one of the better locations. A lot of the original spots have closed down due to the pandemic and this is one of the spots that you can rely on. The price was 6 for $6.99 solely based on their egg tarts. While we thought this was delicious, it did not taste the same room temperature as some places do when it is right out of the oven. It definitely was delicious and had a good tart along with an egg custard. However, I would recommend bringing it home to heat it up and eat it.

Never got caught up in any of the hype or had expectations for this bakery, but I suppose that's what made it much better. It really let's an individual evaluate the products and service without a pre-conceived bias or over-anticipation. The location is a small and cozy place endearing features, such as swing seats. Prices for the products were very reasonable and comparable to other major bakery chains (IE 85C). Products were definitely eye candy. Great for kids to walk into and see the adorable baked goods like the Mini Pineapple Pork Buns (Shaped like turtles) and the Chocolate Dipped Coconut Bread (Shaped like sheep). Mini Pineapple Pork Buns: Love me some of these pineapple buns, if turtles tasted like these buns I'd be eating them all-day-long... ALL-DAY-LONG. Chocolate Dipped Coconut Sheep Bread: Light and chocolatety goodness. As cute as they are, I'd again run out into the barn/Pasteur and gnaw off a piece of sheep if they tasted like this. Egg Tarts: Eggy goodness wherever you go. The tarts here are similar to those you may find at an 85C or the Portuguese style tarts. Always good and worth the purchase here. Great to see labels on the products with meat that clearly identify when the products were prepared/put out for customers to determine the freshness of what they're getting. You don't see that everywhere and it definitely helps with mitigating opportunities in purchasing old product that could throw your stomach into a loop. Plenty of beverage options and variations of baked goods provide a good combination of snacks/meals. Overall, the products are very good and the facility kept clean, but it's the service here that is clear to shine. Everyone here was very friendly and ready to help answer questions. Good place to bring kids.

Got a couple of baked items from this Bake Culture location. All of the items weren't bad, but nothing stood out. Pineapple bun - bun was flatter than other ones I've had and the key topping on the bun was on the soft side vs crunchy. Egg custard tart - egg custard filling was smooth & light yellow with light flavor. I would have liked the crust to be flakier though Loaf of milk bread - good texture & a bit sweeter than others I've had Similar to some other bakeries, items are individually wrapped and you select what you want from the display cases. But I think the wrapping affects the texture of some items and makes them a little soft because of moisture kept inside. Decor looks nice and seems clean & employees were pleasant. I prefer other bakeries in Chinatown, but Bake Culture is ok if you're in a pinch or want a snack while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant.

My 3rd visit - so i got to try almost everything on the rightside cases (they do switch up the items). Although it all looks really beautiful and mouthwatering, I find just about everything I've had were very dry although the flavor is good and not too sweet. To be fair, I've never had any of their cakes or breadloafs yet so I would go back for anything other than their bunlike items which is usually my go to in asian bakeries because I love buns hun and I'll do side bends or situps .

This review is solely for what happened during the grand opening so I hope this rating would soon change when I visit again! Note: Almost all pastries were almost sold out by the time I went. Interior: 4/5 Small space but it's modern, sleek, and clean. What a wonderful marketing strategy for the cute swing seats to be facing the windows so people can watch you eat :) Service: 5/5 You pick the bread out yourself and bring it up to the front for check out. Even though it was the grand opening, the staff was really friendly and accommodating in answering any bread questions I had as none of the pastries were labeled. The workers answered everyone's questions fluently in both Cantonese and English. Food- Value: Overpriced During the grand opening, every bread was $3, which is pretty dang expensive to me. Luckily, that will soon change, although I'm not sure it would be that big a difference. Salted Egg Yolk Custard Croissant: $3 // 1/5 I was so intrigued when the worker said it was like a "liu sha bao". Unfortunately, it was a miss for me. The egg yolk was SUPER salty and normally, the bland white bun would help. But since it was a croissant, this just tasted terribly salty to me. Banana Choco Bread: $3 // 4/5 I almost thought this would taste as disappointing as the croissant. It tasted salty and boring upon biting into the bread. However, that soon changed as I got to the banana mush hidden as filling inside. I have never tried anything like this! It was weird at first but I soon loved it, as it was banana combined with a chocolatey taste. Yum! Japanese Cheesecake: $3 // 4/5 The "Japanese" added to the label sure got me wanting it. It reminded me of Keki cake, which is great since Keki doesn't sell slices. It's airy, fluffy, and creamy! Bake Culture had this offer where if you spend over $10, you get a voucher that would subtract $10 off your next $10+ order. Since I got one, I will definitely come back to use it and taste what other unique pastries they have! It's not the best tasting bread, but it's definitely not your average bakery in Chinatown either, with its unique pastries and chic interior.

Located right next to hotel 50 Bowery, we stopped by and got some snacks. We got about 4 different breads and 2 waters. The breads were very greasy and gave us heartburn after. Not very good, had better. Employees are friendly though.
