I think I've found my favorite bakery in Brooklyn.
They make everything in store, throughout the day, which leaves the entire shop smelling lovely! Although the baked goods display case slowly emptied during our time there, by the time we left, they had brought out two newly iced cakes!
My friend and I split a slice of the Brooklyn Blackout chocolate cake - which they advertise as the best chocolate cake in the US - and boy did we enjoy it! Six dollars may seem a little hefty for one slice of cake, but they are really generous with their slices. We had a light lunch and couldn't even finish the full slice between the two of us!! (The rest of it is sitting in my fridge right now).
Before we left, I also picked up a potato and egg quiche ($4), kale and korn knish ($5), and a homemade sesame bagel ($2). The Brooklyn Blackout cupcake was for a friend's belated birthday treat. So far, I've only had the bagel for breakfast. I prepared it with some ham, gouda, and avocado, and it was BOMB. The bagel was thinner than usual, which made me feel a little less guilty for eating the whole thing in one serving, and although it was just sesame, actually tasted like an everything bagel. Um, yaaaaas! No more poppy seeds stuck in my teeth! I think I'll be back this weekend just to stock up on a few more..
As for drinks, they serve illy coffee, which makes for a nice latte.
There is plenty of seating - communal and private. There is no internet access that I am aware of, but if you bring a good book with you, this shouldn't be a problem. They also play decent music for such a hipster dipster place.
