Bagel and Bialy Shop Rises Again in the East Village - Eater San Diego

"Brooklyn Bagel & Bialy, which shuttered in Spring 2019 after eight years in the East Village, has been revived and refreshed by some of its former owners into BAKED, a new cafe that recently reopened in the space. Owner-operator Scott Lutwak is a local entrepreneur who founded Restaurant.com and is the CEO of Fit Athletic Club." - Candice Woo

Stopped into Baked to grab some dinner for takeout. I had primarily known this location to be a breakfast spot so was pleasantly surprised to see them offering pizza/flatbread options for dinner hours. The selection of items premade was plentiful and you also have the option of having them make a fresh whole flatbread but that will take a bit longer. We tried the Vegetarian, Meatlover and Multi-cheese options. Ended up with leftovers for the next day. I’d definitely suggest giving them a shot for a reasonably priced quick meal.

This place should close or get new management. At 8 am, they barely had any pastries and exactly two choices of bagels. Key ingredients for sandwiches were missing (e.g., they wanted to replace sun-dried tomatoes with regular tomatoes but not lower the cost). The menu read sandwiches "served with home fries". When I got my food, there were no home fries included and I was told that "that was supposed to be removed from the menu". Of course, once again, the cost remained the same.

I was in the area looking for a vegetarian cafe before my flight. This place popped up in Google Maps search. Turns out this is a Turkish Pide shop. It is basically a flat bread with cheese and toppings, but the crust (Pide bread) what makes it special IMO. I got the Mediterranean Pide. At first the veggie pieces on it seemed lacking salt but the already-salty cheese and olive creates a well-balanced flavor. It is fresh and not too overwhelming. I also drank a bottle of ayran (salty yogurt drink, not for everyone) which was the perfect company for the Pide. Metered parking on the street, which is cheap when available. I would definitely come back here and try more stuff if I am in town.

I really enjoyed the music, extremely nice staff, talented and (doesn't hurt to look at) chef, Kaya, with truly one of a kind taste of Turkish Pide I've ever tried. Chef made special to order one for me, vegan with an egg on top. Healthy and yummy. Definitely going to be back. <3

I am completely sold on the Turkish pies / flatbread they now offer in the afternoons & evenings. I’ve gone every night for the last 3 nights…and I went twice today. Kaya and Alina are so friendly and have such a passion for their food. I’m seriously obsessed and have been telling all my neighbors to go try it out. You’ll be hooked!

Omg that was so yummy!! Got the Mediterranean mingle, it was bombbbb. Balsamic glaze and the egg made it. Will def be back asap. Chef Kaya was so welcoming and knocked it outta the park. Impeccable vibes.

Top notch bagel and breakfast sandwiches. Great coffee and ambiance. Can’t get a more original breakfast food for the walk around East Village on an early morning. Or sit and enjoy the food while watching the locals in passing. Great staff and prices. I love this place

A nice corner bakery with lots of options. The buns and bread-wrapped sausages remind me of some German bakeries. Our favorite was the wrapped bacon jalapeño sausage, followed by the sausage and egg bun. The bratwurst was a bit dry, but still flavorful. The spinach bun was bland and the chocolate croissant was over baked. The server suggested the mustard and the avocado sauces. The mustard was great with the sausages. The avocado was like an avocado mayo. I would have preferred straight, mashed avocado. If you like toasted seeds or dried, toasted onions, they have them. If you don't, I would asked for them plain.
