Where to Make a Pit Stop on the Way to the Maryland-Delaware Shore | Eater DC

"Berlin is just outside Ocean City, and it’s well worth the detour since it’s an extremely walkable, picturesque town with plenty of shopping. The Baked Dessert Café is another reason to visit — be sure to focus on the pies, pastries, and miniature cakes." - Tim Ebner

Always a pleasure to visit Baked. It has become my go to spot for bakery needs; both sweets and savory needs. So glad they added more savory items to the menu. The sweet bakery items are mouth watering as well. Every item is so well crafted and tastes delicious. The ambience is very cozy and the staff is always friendly. The cafe is perfectly located in the heart of Berlin, also known as the coolest small town in America. You can take a stroll and visit numerous small shops and restaurants while you get your bakery needs.

As soon as you walk in, the aroma of fresh, baked goods envelopes you! Home of the original peach dumplin... yes, please! Berlin, for that matter, is a neat and delightful little town. It's definitely worth a visit.

This place is dangerously good. My fiance and I went here while walking around the city of Berlin. It's a nice little pastry shop with lots of unique and yummy desserts. We got a chocolate croissant, some little tarimasu tart things, a key lime pie tart, a brownie, a small strawberry cheesecake, a peach dumpling, and some éclair croissant combos (don't remember the exact name). All of it was so delicious and yummy. The woman who was helping us behind the counter was also very friendly. I highly recommend going here if you're in the area.

In Ocean looking for dessert at a bakery...most seemed to close around noon. So, we headed up the road to Berlin, MD, and found Baked. It is the cutest bakery. There is art in the walls, cute nooks to sit and eat, and the desserts were yummy..we had the lemon chess pie (tastes like key lime, but is a softer creamer texture with coconut. We also had the funfwtti brown, which was moist and tasty. It also rather large--think two brownies in one. We also had the strawberrycello cake. It was a combo of most pondcake and strawberry pieces. Also tasty. The only cons are that they ran out of cinnamon rolls on cinnamon Saturday, and they didn't seem to know which of the items were vegan even though they were advertised on their cute board. If in the area, we would definitely stop.by

This bakery offers a delightful escape with its scrumptious pastries and warm, cozy ambiance—a perfect haven for indulging in sweet treats. Very welcoming staff and can’t say enough how nice and helpful the owner, Robin, is. I highly recommend this little gem in Berlin🥰

Google
When looking for a wedding cake, we knew this was the right bakery from the moment we stepped in. We did a taste test and absolutely LOVED it. Robin was amazingly helpful and kind throughout the process from taste testing to the wedding day. She arrived early for the wedding day and set up the whole dessert table for us and made it look stunning with fresh flowers and seashells. Seriously the best experience ever. And all the wedding guests raved about her desserts. The best I have ever had. I cannot say enough good things about this place and Robin. I would give 10 stars if I could.

Stopped by for a quick snack before departing Berlin and wasn't disappointed! After debating between rice pudding or mousse and choose the latter. It was served in a chocolate cup. The mousse was light and fluffy. My partner ordered a tiramisu encased in a chocolate ball and that was also flavorful. My only, concern is that the items encased in chocolate become difficult to eat. They looked very pretty, but I would have rather had the moose/tiramisu served by themselves vs struggling with a hard chocolate container. But I understand the need for the aesthetics, ❤️ which I have attached a photo of below :) Overall great place, would visit again!

My name is Melissa, and I am the Events Manager at Golden Sands in Ocean City, MD. One of my April brides booked her cake with this cafe and it was my first time getting to experience this vendor. I had never heard of them until now, but the way my couple talked about them and the great experience they had, definitely caught my attention. The cake was beautiful, the woman who delivered it to my venue was so helpful and told me not to worry about a thing while I was helping our bride, that she would take care of setting it up and everything. Everyone at the wedding was raving about how amazing it tasted and that's very rare that you get a cake as beautiful as this one, that tastes as it looks! I added them to my vendor list and will definitely be referring all my future couples to their establishment!

Yelp
Hands down the best Cinnabon I've ever had. Fresh, hot and great flavor. All the pastries I saw looked amazing, excited to come back.

Yelp
My husband and I came here because we wanted to get something sweet. We stumbled upon an amazing cute hallmark town of a bakery in Berlin, MD. I loved the front entrance it was all decorated for Christmas time . As soon as we walked inside you get blown away with the most amazing smell of all different sweets. It smelt amazing inside. I absolutely loved in how there was a art gallery inside the bakery. Everything looked delicious I didn't know what to choose. The prices were also amazing. I asked the women what was the best thing to get she suggested somer things . I decided to get a Apple Crumb Pie, chocolate chip cookies , snicker doodle cookie, and much more. We can't wait to come back.

Yelp
Wow! What a wonderful bakery!! I've have been here several times for their desserts and pies. This time I ordered a specialty cake and was so impressed! Robin was wonderful! The cake was perfect!! Thank you so much!

Kevin E.

Yelp
I purchased breads, deserts, and pastries and they were all incredible. The staff are pleasant, helpful and move what looks to be a long line through quickly and efficiently. This place is a gem.

Barbara S.

Yelp
We tried the coffee, quiche, Croclair, Strawberry Shortcake , Chocolate Chip cookie, and Peach-Bluberry pie over our weeks vacation! All was fresh and delicious! Kudos to the bakers! Staff are friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Vanessa L.

Yelp
The place is beautiful! Very good attention! The meringues are delicious! I forgot the name of the other thing I got but I wasn't completely happy since it had chocolate inside and hard maybe they should heat it up a little! But everything is very good in general.
google avatar

Yelp
Off the charts incredible baked delights. Finger licking delicious . We had a slice of apple crumb pie with small diced apple pieces. The flavor was heavenly. My only recommendation would be to add a decafe coffee option to their menu. Otherwise, a home run find that I wash was closer to home... well maybe it's better that it's not for the sake of my waistline.

Yelp
Second time I've driven to Berlin as a stop after assateague and wild horses. This time we wanted a place to sit, have some tea and read. I wasn't planning on having a treat, but when we heard about the croclair we couldn't resist, and it comes with hot fudge! A chocolate croissant with pastry cream and delicious hot fudge, what's not to love? Tea was good too- and the service was so friendly. Have to come back next time we see the wild horses!
google avatar

Yelp
There are lots of pastries and desserts to select from. Got a sugar bun, and it was okay. My friends got a sausage croissant, and they really enjoyed that. There is seating in the shop and some patio tables around the corner.

Yelp
Baked is a gorgeous lil bakery store a block or two off Main Street in historic Berlin. I'm told people come to Berlin for Baked. After several visits I see why. When you walk in off the steps you are greeted immediately with two cases of succulent baked goods. Cream puffs, croissants, cookies, scones, and so much more. It's simply delish. I walk out with several items every time. The only negative on the place is that they open at 10 am. This makes the hungry early riser eat twice! ha!

Joanne A.

Yelp
Rosemary Focaccia Bread was absolutely fabulous. Brought it home to go with Tuna Salad.

Yelp
A charming and cozy shop. The owner is so sweet, and her staff are just as pleasant and kind! The baked good are a real treat -- fresh and delicious. They offer a good selection of GLUTEN FREE options --just be sure to catch them while they last.

Yelp
We came here as we stopped at Blacksmith restaurant down the block who recommended us. The town of Berlin is a great place to stop and this bakery was a nice place. I live in New York City and was on my way to Virginia Beach and needed a bit of a sugar rush to keep me going on my 6 plus hour drive. We were greeted as we dame in, everyone was helpful and they have a nice selection of baked goods, sandwich's, cookies, macaroons, a nice wine selection, and an art collection that is for sale. Everything tasted good and hit the spot. I thought everything was very good although I didn't find anything that wowed me. All in all a good choice and I would recommend them.

Yelp
The olive oil bunt cake with blueberries and lemon cream is amazing. Nice not overly sweet cake with lemon zest cream, had it with a black coffee. We checked in on the yelp app and got a free cookie! Very nice decor inside, sat at a round table, beautifully decorated with lits of wood furniture. The snickerdoodle cookie was soft, chewie and jut perfect in wvery bite, this place is a hidden gem.

Yelp
We decided on this bakery for our wedding because of the great reviews and location to our wedding venue. Everything was seamless from start to finish from the initial phone call to the delivery of our cupcakes. Robin and her team are always pleasant and professional. I would highly recommend this bakery to anyone.

Yelp
I love Baked! My wife and I came to try the place and we could smell it from down the block! We tried some cookies and bread pudding. She had a key lime tart and a peach puff. There was some other things that I wish I could have taken because there is so many delicious things to try.
google avatar

Yelp
I always try to find good bakeries anywhere we visit and this was possibly the best one I've ever found. The staff was super friendly and gave us recommendations on what to try. we stopped on a Saturday so we lucked out and got a cinnamon roll as well! I haven't tried it yet, but it looks and smells incredible. My favorite was the croclair. Husband loved the cheesecake. Everything we got was delicious! I would definitely recommend trying any of these items.
google avatar

Yelp
A bit pricey compared to a few in town and in Snow Jill however I do still recommend this place. Great food/baked goods, staff is always friendly when I'm there, ambience is adorable and cute. Good service and good food

Yelp
I've been to Berlin a few times now and just found out about this cute little ship located just off the Main Street. It's definitely not a run of the mill bake shop. Very eclectic but has a homey feel. We decided to grab some macarons for my mom for Mother's Day since they were in these festive colors and heart shapes. We also got a crustless personal cheesecake for my sister since it was her birthday today. These two things came to $18 which was a bit of sticker shock, especially since there are no prices posted. My sister was happy with her cheesecake though. Yelp check in will get you a free Snickerdoodle cookie which was a generous size, so make sure you check in!

Yelp
I wish I could rate this place a little higher, but unfortunately it's mediocre at best. A few years ago, someone had purchased several different desserts from this place for a special occasion. I tried them all and was disappointed by each one. I stopped in for the first time myself because I was in Berlin and wanted a snack and wanted to see their entire selection myself. Nothing was that tempted looking, and what I did end up selecting was not very good, particularly for the price. The actual pastry itself tasted like it was purchased pre-made and then baked on site. I don't mind paying for a good quality pastry - especially because food and labor costs are going up. But I can't say I'd ever return here or recommend it.

Yelp
UPDATE: due to COVID, we had to majorly downscale our wedding in December but still had Baked make our cake. We chose the hummingbird cake decorated with macarons. It was such a pleasure to work with everyone through these uncertain times. Our cake was delicious and the guests raved about it. We are planning a larger reception in September and are really looking forward to the Baked dessert bar.

Yelp
If you've got a sweet tooth you gotta go see Robin and her staff at Baked. They are all super nice folks and greet everyone with a smile! They've got all kinds of different treats and are totally worth the trip!!
google avatar

Polly R.

Yelp
Fora sweet treat, look no further than Baked. Everything I've tried there is melt in your mouth excellent. They have twist on originals like the cinicrossiant (cinnamon bun/croissant) and chococlaire (chocolate croissant/éclair). The classics are also great-- chocolate chip cookie, macaroons, French bread. All around good. Always took food away since there now much indoor seating.

Yelp
5 stars. These quick birthday cupcakes were a total hit. I realized a few days before that I had no cupcakes ordered. The girl I spoke with on the phone instantly knew what I wanted and omg did she deliver...... I will 100% be back for our next Eastern shore birthday.

Yelp
Lovely little shop with expert, friendly service! I definitely recommend the huge cream puff with fresh ganache on top, as well as the blueberry limoncello bundt cake! The complimentary water cooler is a nice touch, especially on a hot summer day. Wish I lived closer so I could become a regular here.
google avatar

Yelp
This is the best bakery I have ever been to! I live in New York City which has an abundance of bakeries and not one of them compares to this place. I tried their cro-clair, cinnamon roll and amaretto cake. Each thing was better than the next one. I was in heaven. The cro-clair was buttery, flaky and creamy. The cinnamon roll wasn't overly sweet and very moist. And the amaretto cake was the softest cake I have ever bit into. I'm crying while writing this because I wish they had an nyc location . If you are in Berlin or Ocean City please don't skip this place. You will regret it

Cayla M.

Yelp
Some friends and I on vacation stopped here just to check it out. And it was everything we could have asked for and more. You can smell before you even get in the front door the baked goods being made fresh. The interior was lovely and charming just like the staff. Such sweet women who were attentive and gave suggestions. They even offered complimentary water to anyone waiting inside the shop. Based off the service alone this is a 5 star place. Now for the sweets themselves, we've enjoyed everything we received. While on the more dense side of things, the flavors were rich and sweet. I'd definitely recommend the croclairs! Especially if you don't like eclairs that much it made a believer out of some of us haha. The puff pasty was flaky but not crumbly and the peach dumpling is delicious. And as the star dessert for the place it definitely stands out. I would most definitely come back when coming through the area again!

Yelp
Lovely little bakery with lots of wonderful goodies. If you are in Berlin and have a sweet tooth, this is a must! In fact, if you are not in Berlin, it is worth a drive...

Janet K.

Yelp
Lovely little bakery (too little sometimes for the crowds-smile) Everything we have ever gotten there has been fresh and delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little dessert shop with something for everybody. Their famous peach dumpling was pretty good. Their peach iced tea, however, was a bit disappointing. They also fill cannolis to order, if you're into that. They sell a ton of merch, have all sorts of drinks, and you can sit at their tables outside.

Osh O.

Yelp
Don't eat their vegan options. They apparently don't sell enough and every time I get them they are stale. Now if you buy a cookie they tell you to put it in the microwave before you can eat it. That's because it's stale!
google avatar

Carli W.

Yelp
We LOVED stopping here on our trip. They had a great variety of desserts available. Our favorite was the Italian cake. We also really enjoyed the variety of artisanal sodas. A must do when visiting town!
google avatar

Yelp
Found it! Found it! Lost this tip and cafe. Heading back now. Review below was written 2013. I have been journaling bread pudding for over 10 years and the cup cake bread pudding here is in my top 3. If I were to include the friendliness and quality of customer service from This daughter mom (could be sister sister ) operation they would rank in top 2. If you are as fortunate as I was to get a fresh baked tomato pie get it. Trust me on this one - get it.
google avatar

Rebecca D.

Yelp
If you're looking for the BEST gluten free desserts you've found them. Cupcakes are 10/10! Everything you can buy here (gf or not) is worth the price. Try it all. You will not be disappointed
google avatar

Catherine V.

Yelp
Cookies are delicious. Quiche was a wonderful meal. Very flavorful and delicate. Almost sorry I found this place since I could find something wonderful every day

Amy S.

Yelp
Their coffee & service is top tier. I encourage anyone new to Berlin to stop in & check out this great, local spot!
google avatar

Yelp
We left early and planned our trip to this small gem in Berlin just to make sure our choice of delectable treats would be available, and were not disappointed! Even 20 minutes after opening, there was a line out the door of this hidden treasure, but the wait was worth the cost of both time and money. It was so hard to choose from their wide selection of delectable offerings, and even harder to wait to consume our choices. If you haven't experienced the joy of their pastries and deserts, you haven't taken advantage of one of the best kept secretes Berlin has to offer. Get them on your bucket list for each visit!

Yelp
Baked Dessert Cafe and Gallery is a little cafe that offers both sweet and savory desserts (such as fruit dumplings, cupcake bread puddings, croclairs, liquor-soaked bundts, cookies, etc.), artisan breads, cheese spreads, wine, as well as featuring local artists' work. Co-owned by Robin Tomaselli and Shelly Eppard, I was warmly welcomed in by Ms. Robin :D I had read about their famous Peach Dumplins,' so I had to try those - I was so glad that they didn't run out! The dumpling itself was a little puff pastry, filled with some sliced peaches, dressed in a peach reduction and homemade caramel. It does have a very strong scent to it, but the taste was pretty okay - I really liked that it was served warm, so make sure you consume it right away! Also, with a Yelp check-in, you get a free Snickerdoodle cookie - a large generous size, this was pretty tasty. I really loved the decor of the cafe, as it really has that cute nautical/beach-y vibe to it, and I absolutely fell in love with some of the paintings that were for sale. I'd love to come back and try out some of their entrees as well as their Croclair (croissant, eclair style!). Located in DT Berlin, there's some limited street parking. +ask for Ms. Robin :D +Peach Dumplin' run out fast! +free Snickerdoodle cookie with a Yelp check-in +great local artwork featured :D +limited free street parking

Yelp
Amazing staff and selections. From the moment you walk in the door the offerings are abundant and the staff is welcoming.

Yelp
The worst part of this review is that I forgot to take pictures. To start I ordered their cupcake bread pudding. I only got it to satisfy curiosity because I expected it to be a little dry and dense and it was neither of those things. In a satisfying and bread pudding-y kind of way it was chewy and solid. But at the same time it was light and not too sweet even with the caramel sauce. I've never seen the combination before and it was very good. Its definitely better than a regular cupcake which I'm not a fan of. Next up was the Croclair which was half the reason I even went here. Its the best combination of a croissant and an eclair. Flaky and soft like a croissant with an awesome cream filling and equally awesome and very lightly sweet dark chocolate on top. They even drizzle the dark chocolate when you order which is genius, it doesn't let the dough get soggy like some other eclairs. This one went down very fast and I kinda wished I had another one. Lastly, and the other half of the reason I went here, the peach dumpling. Hands down the best version of peach pastry I've ever had. I try peach cobblers, danishes, pies, anything with peach everywhere I go and no one gets it right. These guys know exactly what they're doing. They don't overwhelm the slight tartness of the peaches with tons of sugar. Even the caramel sauce they put on it just merely accents the pastry, it doesn't impart a heavy caramel or sugar presence. And they also pour this on when you order it so again no sogginess. The place has a very nice vibe to it in a very nice looking small town. I even enjoyed the cucumber mint soda they had. Gotta go back to try the lemon ginger and elderflower. Definitely try this place if your in the area or even near the area. Heck drive here if you feel like dessert and your tired of all the mediocre stuff people call dessert.

Yelp
Tip: Ask how much the item cost before buying as there are NO prices. i wonder do locals and tourists receive different prices. Everything looked great in the shop, friendly staff, baked goods, place was clean and I wanted to order many of cakes/pies/cookies as it looked delicious. Luckily we ordered 3 items: 1) slice of pie 2) croissant 3) pudding cake When the lady rang us up, our bill was 15ish. I was shocked how expensive the pastries cost, as something like this at Starbucks would've cost around 9ish. Definitely was expensive, but I should've asked how much it cost. My items tasted good, but not sure if it was worth $15.

Yelp
Had a sweet tooth today and needed some pie but decided on a slice of Blueberry lemon cello and a Lemon bar...WOW it was so perfect and hit the spot me and pop couldn't wait t o get it back to the house! The lady that served us was very polite so this made the visit even better. The blueberry lemon cello was soooo moist and scrumptious I wanted more but decided to lay into that lemon bar and it did not disappoint either....so if you are in OC. Or near Berlin drop in here and check it out!

Yelp
Saw this town in a brochure of things to do near OCMD and decided to walk around. Came across this cute bakeshop (my favorite type of store) and decided to wander in. The two ladies running the shop were so friendly and inviting. My boyfriend and I split a snickerdoodle, which was delicious, and I also got a chocolate cake bomb... Which was warmed up and melted in my mouth! Would definitely go back and would recommend. Thank you for the treats and friendly service! Will visit again next year! There were too many goodies I couldn't sample at once so I must try more next year.

Yelp
We went on post vax road trip to Ocean City and took a side trip to Assategue (I SAW A BABY HORSE AND IT WAS EVERYTHING). Headed to Berlin - and yes its the most beautiful small town on the planet. There was a post card like advertisement for Baked in the visitors center featuring something that was an croissant and an eclair TOGETHER. It looked amazing. We walked there and they had sold out many hours before. I was sad. But i ordered a small 'cake bomb' it was birthday cake flavored and I was no longer sad. It was delicious. We ended up having lunch at the Blacksmith in Berlin a few days later and just on a whim I thought I would double check if there was one left? YES THERE WAS. We ordered three and they are everything you can imagine. They are covered in chocolate. They are an eclair in the best croissant. They were fresh. Now that I am home, I think about them often. Moral of the story- Don't expect to get the Cro-Clair mid day on the weekend. Its' a fools quest. Get there early or go mid week. They are delicious.

Leslie L.

Yelp
Every dessert and baked good is sensational, fresh and unforgettable!! The staff are always friendly and happy to answer questions. If you need a special occasion cake be sure to get it in very early.

Michael R.

Yelp
OMG-delicious Amaretto poundcake caramel bread pudding peach dumpling and Granoche croissant all delicious but the amaretto cake was the best. Coffee was very good. Great little bakery with fun people. The people sitting next to us had the banana nut cake and they loved it!
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
I can't really tell you what the cupcakes taste like because I was eating mine in the 2nd annual spring festival cupcake competition. I had to eat it fast with my hands behind my back! I can tell you it was moist and had a generous amount of frosting! The owners, bakers and friends of the shop are all sweet as can be. The shop might be tiny inside, but they have an adorable outside seating area. They have several tables and chairs and picnic benches. A perfect place to enjoy a cupcake or cup of coffee! Berlin is just so darn cute and Baked is even cuter!
google avatar

Yelp
There are so many wonderful things to say about this devine little gem of a cafe. The local art is tastefully displayed and is for sale. The dessert we chose was the banana cream pastry with a spiced Chai latte. The pastry wasn't too sweet and the fluffy crust was great. It was a perfect pairing to the spiced Chai. I love the little quotes dotted around the place, such as, "If you lick the icing off a cupcake, it becomes a muffin, and muffins are healthy." They have specialty coffee, tea, pastries, popcorn, and desserts. They also make custom cakes for your special event. I highly recommend a visit here.
