Baked On Maui - Review - Haiku - Maui - The Infatuation

"As the crowd of pro surfers and North Shore hippies inside indicates, this is where the locals go - and for good reason: everything at Baked On Maui is made on site. Stop in for a nitro coffee and croissant before starting out on the two-hour Road to Hana drive, or plan to walk off their face-sized, lilikoi-icing-glazed cinnamon rolls in the nearby beachside town of Paia. Our favorite dishes are the pepper goat cheese breakfast sandwich on house-made focaccia and the puputeine skillet (fries topped with homemade pepper gravy and cheddar cheese in a cast iron pan). There’s also a solid smoothie, sandwich, and salad selection for lunch before or after a hike and swim at Twin Falls, just up the road." - Leah Ponichtera

Google
Best coffee in Maui if you like the strong, robust and clean taste. Food is tasty and mostly locally sourced. Desserts are a highlight as well. Pleasantly surprised with a Strong WiFi - I got a lot of work done while breathing the fresh mountain air

Hidden Gem 💎 A friend had recommended Baked on Maui for their delicious cinnamon rolls 🤤 Cute little local spot nestled upcountry. Friendly and welcoming staff with excellent service. I enjoyed the house made masala chai with a fresh warmed traditional cinnamon roll. They also have an entire breakfast menu – I look forward to returning and trying as it looked amazing. *alternative milk options for beverages! Four indoor tables for dining as well as a cute outdoor area with covered picnic tables. Restrooms nearby (ask cashier for key and directions). Free parking. Highly recommend!

Google
A gorgeous place to sit and enjoy breakfast in the Hawaiian forest. I had a delicious lavender and fruit smoothie along with two Fat Sammy’s. A perfect meal to get through a day in the surf! The people were friendly with a fun loving attitude. We sat on the patio and listened to the birdcalls while a warm rain breezed through. What a start to the morning, thanks to the crew at Baked on Maui. I wish I had gotten their names.

Google
Baked on Maui was the perfect stop to kick off our Road to Hana adventure. Quick, easy, and delicious! The food and drinks hit the spot, and the vibe was relaxed and welcoming. A great place to fuel up before the drive.

Google
Fantastic bakery!!! Wonderful hidden gem and glad we stopped by. We both got sandwiches and thought they were amazing. And the cinnamon roll was fabulous as well. I highly recommend The Dole sandwich - I would say that it is among the best sandwiches I've had in my life. My husband got the Melted Ham & Cheese and he really enjoyed it as well.

Google
One of the best spots for breakfast (the omlettes are incredible) or an amazing latte (try the ube or blue matcha!). The staff is genuinely happy and love what they do. The outdoor picnic tables make a great spot to enjoy your amazing meal.

Google
Grabbed a cinnamon roll, which looks like a giant muffin. It was fresh and the icing was yummy homemade and plenty of it. It would be better if slightly warmed. Definitely big enough to split if you wanted. TBA... Turkey Bacon Avocado sandwich, was good portion size and tasty. Served on fresh bread, good balance of ingredients. You could also split it or not. We had no problem parking in a gravel lot right across the street. There was also a ton of sitting area inside and covered outside. Very pleasant to eat here. They had great to-go containers too. There are a bunch of souvenirs from hats to mugs, to aprons, to cute little stickers, and more. Very cute!

Google
Staying nearby was unexpectedly one of the best decisions we made during our week in Maui! It opens early and has amazing food and coffee. Whether we were just grabbing a drink or having a whole meal, Baked On Maui was a daily part of our lovely stay on the island.

Yelp
I ordered the haiku omelette because i love eggplant but after waiting for our order i was informed they were out of eggplant, they substituted with tomatoes, onions, etc and it was still an excellent omelette. I also had their blue matcha hot latte, which was really delicious. The potatoes were cooked to perfection and perfectly flavored with spices. Served with sliced baguette. One orders at the counter but the service was still quite nice. We sat outside in the patio which is lovely! I would definitely return to Baked on Maui and would highly recommend it as well!

Yelp
I arrived right at 630am when they opened. It was a great option for breakfast at the start of my Road to Hana journey. It took them about 10 minutes to prepare my bagel. The bagel was perfect for filling me up for a day filled with activity. My first bite of the cinnamon roll, I was initially disappointed with the frosting . It's a little different but come 2pm after a long hike it was just the sweet treat that I needed. There is really only a couple of places for food - mainly banana bread before you get to Hana so this is a great place to stop and stock up for the day

Yelp
I've eaten here a few times and the food is tasty! However, today I ordered a burger $16 + Fries for an additional $6. I was disappointed in the serving of fries. I can buy a 5# bag of potatoes for $6. ;) LOL If you want a burger and fries in the Ha'iku area, take yourself to Nuka or Colleen's instead; these places are just as tasty and you'll definitely get more bang for your buck. Casual vibes where cashiers and staff are very friendly, never disappointed in the service. Parking can be tricky if the street parking is full. Order ahead if you're planning to go during lunch hours.

Yelp
Great place! Good food, good coffee. Tons of options- breakfast/lunch/smoothies. Also super delicious baked goods/cookies/brownies. Definitely stop here! Yum

Yelp
Friendly staff and really cool location in Haiku made Baked On Maui a delicious destination while back visiting family. Located in the old pineapple cannery the decor was well done and fits the vibe of Haiku perfectly. I had the smoked salmon benedict and a latte and both were delicious. All the baked goods are very fresh. The food put me in such a good mood that I went surfboard shopping at the nearby shapers and bought a board. Just one request. Make T-shirts out of the design on the door and I'll definitely get one next time.

Yelp
This tiny but mighty coffee spot is one of my favorites. They hand craft all of their specialty lattes, matcha- and have a lovely "Iao blend" earl grey tea as well. Baked has been around for a while, and it's evident that they know what they're doing. From beverages to food- you can't go wrong. Inside space is limited but they offer a super cute and cozy outdoor space to enjoy as well. Just remember, this is a local business that is creating everything mostly from scratch, and per order- so don't expect a quick "in and out service" unless you call ahead and they can accommodate a pickup time. I'm stoked that baked on maui is right in my neighborhood-but it's definitely worth a visit for anyone wanting to check out tasty and local place in haiku. It's my go-to place for brunch on my days off!

Mel J.

Yelp
This place use to be good, this time my fries were soggy and oily, my Avocado benedict had just half a teaspoon of what looked like guacamole, the toast was hard as a rock and the woman that gave us our breakfast had a bad attitude. So this is the last time I'm ever going there.

Yelp
Hamburger patties were small and overcooked. Very overpriced for what you get. $18 for hamburger ala carte is very Resort pricing without the quality. Thin slice tomato, little lettuce and a few slivers of onion. Faint layer of cheese and big bun.
google avatar

Pablo P.

Yelp
Not as good as it used to be. Costco bought guac and salsa, smaller skillets. Tastes like McDonalds
google avatar

Don G.

Yelp
Super friendly, a bit on the pricey side, but definitely delicious! Local Kine Bakery serving up monster Cinnamon Rolls with that soft doughy goodness. Not to sweet and covered with that cream cheese frosting that melts in your mouth! Add a Red Rooster Maui Coffee that makes you want to COCK-A-DOODLE-DO! Great place to jumpstart your morning!

Daniel B.

Yelp
Good vibes until cashier said "the screen is gona ask you a question so I can pay my rent." LOL. I'm also in the service industry, also live in haiku, I also have to pay rent. I'd never ever say that to a customer ESPECIALLY at a place where I buss my own plate. Sorry but that's your employers job, not mine. You want big tips go wait tables at Casanovas or something. She would have gotten a tip, but I tip for good service, not because you want me to feel bad for you. Cashier lady has a big back tattoo, let her know that's not cool.

Yelp
I can't recommend this place enough! I went with my two teenage kids and I would definitely say that we are all foodies at heart. My son ordered French toast. My daughter ordered a turkey sandwich and I ordered the bravado eggs Benedict. Every single one of our dishes was amazing. It was hard not to finish every bite because we were so full, but it was so delicious. We also shared one of their homemade cinnamon rolls which apparently they are known for. It was so good and gone in under a minute...best cream cheese frosting ever. Don't miss this place! Great coffees too!

Yelp
Delicious breakfast Served in a lovely surroundings. Sweet people. Broad cross section of humanity

Yelp
I will be a returning customer when in the area. Friendly service and our food was hot and flavorful. No complaints.

Yelp
Great local find - freshest ingredients and cinnamon rolls to die for! Had a skillet breakfast - sooo good!

Yelp
Love this place! My Sunday stop! Alittle pricey but sandwiches are amazing!! Great location and much needed on island...

Yelp
The bacon/avocado Benedict, was amazing! Loved the coffee too. Nice outside seating, great customer service,

Dan B.

Yelp
Amazing food, super nice people, beautiful space. All around great. Would be here like every morning if I was local.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast and coffee! Service is great and staff is always friendly. Highly recommended

Eloise E.

Yelp
I've never had a great meal at Baked. Best I've had there has been mediocre. I stopped in today for a cold brew coffee and it was weak. It didn't even wake me up. For a real restaurant experience, just travel a little further West to Colleen's at the Cannery. Their breakfast totally rocks, and they usually offer fresh squeezed orange juice. The smoked salmon omelette with hollandaise is my favorite.
google avatar

Amanda K.

Yelp
I appreciate the staff, ambiance (very chill), and food that they had to offer. We enjoyed a variety of their items. I am gluten free so I had an omelet. I would recommend stopping here for some breakfast and/or sandwiches on your way to Road to Hana (there really aren't a ton of options once you're on the road). My one hope would be that they start offering gluten free bread (they currently do not) so that I could enjoy their sandwiches, burgers or French toast!
google avatar

Winnie L.

Yelp
Pro-tip: Open very early and a good start before embarking on Road to Hana. Highlights: I liked how expansive their menu was and it had a good mix of different foods. Overall, I enjoyed my smoked salmon plate and thought the amount of salmon was very generous. I would go back to try other items. Lowlights: I was super disappointed by the chocolate mango bar. There really wasn't any mango flavor and the overall texture of the bar was really gummy and mushy and not enjoyable.
google avatar

Emily T.

Yelp
A cute little bakery with tasty chai and pastries! We loved their monkey bread and chai latte. They have outdoor tables and a nice selection of food as well! We ended up getting this before embarking on our trip on the Road to Hana. We had their loco moco with fries and although not the easiest meal to eat on the road, it was delicious!
google avatar

James S.

Yelp
Bomb diggity breakfast yo, what else to say? The biscuits and gravy slaps, especially with those side French fries which normally would sound silly with breakfast but it's amazing. Great coffee too.

Yelp
This is a great side stop before you head out for the long drive along the Hana HWY. Picked up a couple pastries to eat in the car, and was really happy to see the community gathered here to support and have breakfast together. (5/5) Mango Coffee Cake: Very soft and moist. The mango bits are soft and semi sweet to help add a sweetness to the cake. Recommended to order for those who either on the go, or sit and relax and have a cup of coffe. (3/5) 7 Grain Coffee Cake: Plentiful in size for the price. Lots of grains and ingredients. Dry. Would pass on this and choose another pastry next time. Overall a great stop and would recommend all locals and tourists to stop by and help support and experience a smaller town feel with comforting food.

Leilani T.

Yelp
To-go order, I ordered the Haiku omelette, the ingredients are oven-roasted eggplant, spinach, goat cheese, balsamic drizzle. The omelette was 50% mushy tomatoes. I don't eat tomatoes so that was unappealing to me and there was no balsamic drizzle. We also got the French toast and when we got to our destination there was no syrup in the order. Finally I ordered the turmeric latte with coconut milk, it was so spicy it burned my throat. I felt the ratio of turmeric powder to a small drink was overwhelming. I plan to return and hope for a better experience in the future.

Ashley H.

Yelp
The French toast is how I like it! Soft and spongy on the inside (not dry bread) with some crispy ness on the outside. The maple syrup could have been better. Definitely recommend the French Toast!
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
great - when they're open... often closes before posted times, but food and service are good

Wendy H.

Yelp
The Fully Loaded French toast sent my taste buds into orbit! Everything was delish...French toast, POG slushie, coffee, omelettes! My family was pleased we drove the half hour to come check out Baked in Maui! Well worth it
google avatar

Erica R.

Yelp
We stopped here on our way down from the Haleakala sunrise. It was perfect! We had a few pastries (including the amazing cinnamon roll) and coffee. Everything was so good and the service was great! We will definitely go back when we are on the island again!
google avatar

Emiliana O.

Yelp
Chai latte was amazing! Sandwich was super yummy and the cinnamon rolls were great! Not the fastest service, even for island time but great eats!!
google avatar

Yelp
Local bakery hidden up in Haiku. WELL WORTH THE TRIP for incredible baked goods, freshly prepared breakfasts and lunches. Pleasant staff. Fully covered outside seating so that I you are biking down the mountain, you can stop off for a great break.

Susan B.

Yelp
The best breakfast in Maui! Skillet eggs, salsa, bacon, French fries, sour cream! Amazing!
google avatar

Kelsey A.

Yelp
I wish I had stopped at this bakery 100 times on my trip! Once was not enough! The passion fruit loaf was one of the best things I ate in Maui! The sticky bun was good to try, the blueberry lemon scone was good, and my husband loved the almond bear claw. This was a charming spot and I can't wait to go back!

Tammy Z.

Yelp
The food was amazing. A little wait time but it was well worth it. Will be bringing friends back here.
google avatar

Maurice B.

Yelp
Good food - everything fresh. Try the skillets you wont be disappointed. Fresh baguettes are clutch too -- and finally they have them ready before 9 am, which wasn't always the case. Desserts are pretty dang awesome too. Enjoy Lots of outside seating, dog friendly, convenient parking.

Dennis W.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem that is well worth the effort to find! The home style Hawaiian breakfasts are great and generously portioned. Their coffee bar is well presented. But the show is the bakery part, especially the cinnamon rolls! They are worth the trip. Best on the island.
google avatar

Joe J.

Yelp
Outstanding breakfast sandwiches. Appreciate the opportunity to try this amazing food
google avatar

Dang L.

Yelp
Great sandwiches. One of the places that actually opens pretty early. You can B place your online order and pick up at pick up time which I find to be pretty convenient. Earliest pick up is 715am. Not bad as it is on the way to Hana. Just know that if you order sandwiches from lunch menu before 9am, the only bread that is available is white sandwich bread. I like that their veggies are supper fresh and even after Driving all the way to Hana, the veggies still had good texture and remained fresh. Got the bacon avocado and turkey sandwich: 4.5 stars. Pretty delicious. My little one ate a whole sandwich by herself which is rare. Plenty of turkey meat and veggies. Bacon was crispy. Roast beef sandwich: 4 stars. Husband thoroughly enjoy it.

Yelp
The team at Baked on Maui is a pleasure to interact with. So kind and helpful even though I showed up at 6:30am right after opening. On the first morning I had the cinnamon bun with icing and the second morning I had the sticky bun. Both were good but not great - they don't measure up to the cinnamon buns in Kihei at Cinnamon Bun Place. Coffee was fantastic. Will go back.

Yelp
Quick Summary Fantastic breakfast spot on our way to Road to Hana. It's fast/casual dining format so recommend to get there early (remember to bring the plates in and clean up after yourself!). Great coffee and great food Food- 5 stars Eggs benedict- chose the avocado and bacon and it was fantastic. The house fries were some of the best I've ever bad. Wonderful start to the day Shakaquilla- the salsa had plenty of flavor and eggs were cooked perfectly. 2nd place compared to the eggs benny Carbon fiber coffee- basically a Bulletproof coffee and it was absolutely delicious. Great energy boost for the Road to Hana Service- 4 stars It's fast casual so I wouldn't expect too much. Remember to clear out your own tables! Parking Plenty of parking available in this plaza lot next to the market. No need to crowd for a parking spot right next to the cafe (especially be careful now to block other people's driveways that look like parking spots) Bottom Line What a better way to start the day before going to Hana! Will definitely be back

Kaili H.

Yelp
The chai. Oh my god. Had to buy a bag to bring home... I'm an iced chai connoisseur, and let me tell you it was so good. Also had the lilikoi bar which was amazinggg. The turkey sandwich was a bit too pricey for what it was. Also staff is so kind and considerate :)
google avatar

Stacie S.

Yelp
Great for before or after a trip into Hana, so delicious and healthy fuel for the day. Rancheros is filling and savory with great flavor. Coffee was great too! Super friendly chill vibe
google avatar

Cam G.

Yelp
We always come here before we start the road to Hana. They never disappoint. I always get a sandwich of some sort and Lando gets a pastry or breakfast type sandwich. They're always good and taste fresh. The ladies that work here are always nice and knowledgeable. We enjoyed sitting outside with the crisp morning air at a cute picnic area just in front of the store.
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
My boys loved the croissants - so much they had two each. The skillets were amazing. Caramelized onions and mushrooms over a bed of potatoes cooked to perfection. The gravy is outstanding. Coffee was oh so good too. The waffle with strawberries and whip cream was also a hit. Let's not forget the baked goods. Chocolate chip cookies were delicious. Also got the lemon chocolate chip bar - wasn't my favorite but everything else was excellent.
google avatar

Rhubarb M.

Yelp
Great quality food, locals love it and tourist are treated well. The best cinnamon bun I've ever had in my life. I wasn't a connoisseur before, but I won't bother looking elsewhere- they have it mastered.
google avatar

Danny C.

Yelp
good coffee - even better breakfast options. pet friendly seating available outside. friendly and attentive staff. plesant and relaxing atmosphere.

Yelp
6 Sept 2020 Local bakery cafe and coffee shop with the best cinnamon roll I've had in a long time. Service is outstanding. This is regular rotation material. Only drawback is that outdoor seating is adjacent to main road, which means dust and car fumes while you eat. I want to try all the desserts, tho. By the numbers: Food 5/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 4/5 Value 5/5 Cinnamon roll - Excellent. Chewy and gooey with cream cheese frosting that's not too sweet. You can tell they work the dough and let it rise properly to build up the bite. New favorite cinnamon roll! Bacon avocado benedict - Excellent. Poached eggs, bacon, avo, and tomato on fresh baked focaccia. Hollandaise was creamy and slightly tangy. Country fries were delicious. Daddy O's biscuits and gravy - Good. Salt forward (might have been an off day). Gravy isn't cream based, and I wrongly assumed there was sausage in it. Tastes more like Thanksgiving gravy on delicious biscuits with eggs. I ordered a side salad instead of the normal fries. Turkey bacon avo club - Very good. Generous amount of turkey, bacon, provolone, and avo with fixings and plenty of creamy mayo on a fresh baked focaccia roll. Turkey pesto - Very good. Griddled bread and housemade pesto. Matcha latte - Excellent. Was a little on the sweet side for me, but I'm not really complaining. Like a warm green tea ice cream milkshake.

Jaime F.

Yelp
We stopped here early before starting the road to Hana to get coffee and breakfast to go. It is a cute little shop just off the main road. The staff were super friendly and the food, pastries and coffee were great. The cinnamon roll is a must try with the lightest frosting - it wasn't too sweet and was amazing. If we were staying closer, we would have been back the next day. Put this one on your list if near Paia or headed to Hana.
