Google
Their breakfast sandwiches look phenomenal and they have so many pastries and parfaits and such, but I just got a cold drink. I’ll love their 8oz Natalie’s juices!!! This time I got a Tangerine and Ginger sparkling water. I wish I could feed my tiny bird friends!!! They’re so damn cute!!!! Much more polite than seagulls at the beach. It’s truly lovely at the 8 or so outdoor tables with umbrellas, and the indoor tables have fresh cut flowers!!!

After a trip to Vienna, I’ve been craving schnitzel for months. If prepared correctly, schnitzel won’t make you feel gross despite being deep-fried. My bar wasn’t really high for any German restaurants outside of Europe, but I still expected something more than what I got from this place. It didn’t have that bright, crunchiness, and tenderness I expected.

Google
Pastries are really good and the food is great but lordddd we waited more than 30 min for two breakfast sandwiches. Ordered ahead on our second visit after waiting a long time for our food the first time we came. Unfortunately the order ready time provided on the app was so inaccurate. Be prepared to wait a while for anything they need to prepare. No apology from the staff or acknowledging this insane wait either

Google
Great bakery in downtown Belmont! Easy to get to walking, via the bus, or by car - there's a decent amount of parking spots nearby. In addition to the inside seating, there's outside tables for when the weather is nice. The theme is German/Dutch food, so the food items reflect that. There's stroopwaffels and schnitzels available, along with standard American breakfast items as well. The pricing is also average for the area, which makes this a quaint and wonderful café to check out ! Cannot wait to come back.

Google
Owners are amazing, pastries sandwiches and everything is delicious. Great local spot with a gelato shop that just opened up with fun flavors

Google
Absolutely the best in the area. The breakfasts are amazing- the pretzels are by far the best we have found locally. We absolutely love everything. Great place!

Google
I really enjoy this place. They use good english muffins and have a delicious fried egg on their sandwiches. I recommend getting a mug of coffee and one of their breakfasts.

Google
Good food, rude, brisk management/baker. Called to ask about a birthday cake, answers were short and unprofessional. I decided to go elsewhere after this interaction.

Yelp
It was open on Easter Sunday. Ovenbird was closed. I needed coffee. Got the Latte. People behind the counter were very nice. Everyone teamed up to serve the customers and clean the tables. There was no gossiping. Very professional. There is a wall of chocolates and snacks you can also purchase. Lots of room and tables to sit. The white fence and blue walls give it a Cape Cod feel. The avocado toast was tasty. It had a runny egg on top. I would have preferred metal utensils vs plastic ware. But there were no metal forks left. The plastic fork wasn't cutting it (get it?). Hubby got the breakfast sandwich: ham on English muffin. It didn't fill him up so he got another ham and cheese croissant. I would have preferred the cheese heated but hubby didn't mind it cold. The croissant was buttery and flaky though. Before we left we got some cold drinks from the fridge. They had some sparkling teas--Tea soda! Gonna try out the Blue Tea Jasmine.

Yelp
This place is adorable. The matcha drink I got was on point and the flakey chocolate dipped pastry we got was divine. It was wrapped in a paper that evoked a French newspaper.
google avatar

Yelp
Really wanted to like this place but the carrot cake we got was awful. Just tasted like a vegan version that wasn't enjoyable. Honestly tasted worse than a supermarket bakery.

Yelp
I have had many chicken soup dishes which were yummy and Love the brownies. (; D Patnod, Lic Ac. Cambridge

Yelp
We went for breakfast with 3 other people. The food was tasty and plentiful. We sat outside, and it was a beautiful day. Everyone was happy with what they ordered. I had an omelette which was filled with cheese and spinach.

Yelp
Bakehaus started out as a great operation, and I was a regular, enthusiastic customer. Since 2024, the quality of its food and baked goods has plummeted. Decided to give it another try today, a raspberry square for afternoon coffee break and the pastry fell apart as soon as I picked it up. Had to eat it with a spoon--the pieces weren't even big enough for a fork. It's disappointing but reminded me why I stopped coming here more than a year ago. I used to be a regular for the schnitzel as well but started to notice it over-fried and over-salted. Stopped ordering. Whoever is doing the baking now doesn't know what they're doing.

Yelp
I spent a few hours reading in Bakehaus on a Sunday morning. I had a delicious breakfast burrito, iced chai, and chocolate croissant. It's a really cute space and they have a nice outdoor seating area too. The very kind and friendly staff even let my dog sit inside with us. Will definitely be back!!

Yelp
I was passing by and got their croissants. The pistachio cruffin (croissant in the shape of a muffin) was great! Filled with a pistachio cream inside - yummm! The plain croissant was also nice, flaky and crispy. Everything you want a good croissant to be. Looking forward to going there to try other stuff off their menu :) (P.s: they use gelatin in some of their deserts, like the mousse cake, so better to ask if you're vegan/vegetarian/kosher/halal)

Yelp
Bakehaus provided our take-out Thanksgiving feast this year. The carved turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, carrots, and other sides were incredibly good. Michael, Brian, and their staff were very helpful and friendly, making the ordering and pick-up process easy and pleasant. In past years, we have ordered the full Thanksgiving feast dinner from other restaurants and vendors. Bakehaus was by far the best quality and value. We will definitely be ordering from them in the future. I highly recommend Bakehaus for all of the culinary treats. They made our holiday very special and tasty!

Yelp
Delicious croissants, good coffee, friendly service, nice atmosphere, very pleasant outdoor seating.

Yelp
Wow. Amazing bakery. The muffins are fantastic as well as the breakfast sandwiches. Friendly service and cutely decorated. Fair prices. Highly, highly recommended

Yelp
Quaint coffee and breakfast spot in a really nice neighborhood. Plenty of outdoor seating, kid and pet friendly!

Yelp
did takeout and got the angry amy on a biscuit... so good. very filling and very flavorful i would get again

Ricky W.

Yelp
Dog friendly, they even had a water bowl outside for them. Cubano sandwich was good
google avatar

Yelp
Angry Amy is wonderful sandwich, and the cinnamon rolls on the weekend are so tasty. The main problem is trying to find parking when the street is busy.
google avatar

Madi S.

Yelp
So I'll start off with saying the menu is alright. I think the best part of it are the breakfast sandwiches but honestly the bad energy from the front desk is a serious damper on everything about this spot. I had high hopes my first few times only to realize it's a repetitive issue. Some of the front desk staff are usually on their phones and talking amongst themselves despite guests standing in front of them waiting for service. I've worked in the hospitality industry for 10 years and have never actually been to a more off putting establishment. There's confusion when it comes to picking up to go orders constantly. Most times people still having to wait in line because the cashiers still don't acknowledge you if you stand off to the side. It just doesn't feel as welcoming as a small shop should. But at least the cookies are kind of good?

Yelp
With a German-inspired menu that gracefully straddles all the various camps (vegetarian/hot/cold/classic), this place is a breath of fresh air. The menu is lettered in a simple, attractive font and has a perplexing array of enticing options. Müsli? Chicken and waffles? Avocado toast? I ordered the Angry Amy, which appears to be a standard vegetarian breakfast sandwich, but was so soft and rich and decadent I was taken aback. The herbed English muffin perfectly framed the egg and melted cheese, and the hit of mayo and avocado just took it over the top. Übertoll! The large cappuccino I got was a bit light- I don't think the foam even came close to the rim. Also the scone my gf got was a little fluffier than standard- a good scone is chewy, and this could have stood a little more kneading, but the blueberry and icing were spot on. All in all, this was a little Sunday visit to Europe for an hour, and we'll be back.

Andrew B.

Yelp
I ordered some pretzels to go. They were $6 and big, floppy, light brown (under-lyed) circles, with no crisp arms to break off. And strangely, I had to wait 20 minutes for them. Perhaps they were frozen par-baked and needed to be fully baked? The service and atmosphere were decent.

Yelp
A gem in Belmont. The workers are all friendly and everything we ordered was fantastic. The coffee was great, the butternut squash salad with added grilled chicken was very flavorful, a good size, and of high quality, the bratwurst entree was very good, and the Nutella croissant was one of the better croissants we've had. We will definitely be back to try other menu items such as their paninis, pastries, and more of the German entrees like spaetzle.

Yelp
Amazing food and quick service! The online ordering system is great and let's you know when your food is ready. The portion size and prices were excellent! Along with my breakfast sandwich I got an iced coffee which wasn't too strong or too light in flavor. Just right! Great place to stop in for some food and go on a nice walk around the area.
google avatar

Risa K.

Yelp
Found a new go to place and I cannot wait to go more often Angry Amy ($6): herb and garlic English muffin with egg, cheddar, avocado, tomato, and angry sauce I haven't had a breakfast sandwich in a long time and this totally hit the spot. The English muffin provides a nice herby and garlicky flavor that pair well with the creamy avocado and cheddar. The angry sauce is creamy and has a subtle spice that make this sandwich even more enjoyable! This paired with their @speedwellcoffee was just amazing

Yelp
Very good surprise! Ordered a delicious croissant with bacon egg and cheese, and a Kringle. Employees are really nice and food is high quality! Will come back soon!

Yelp
What an incredible addition to Cushing Square! I've had just about every croissant they offer (huge, flaky, soft, chewy, perfect) and the kouign amann is definitely a star! It's beautifully caramelized on the bottom, yet not overly sweet at all. In fact, all of the sweet pastries I've tried are perfectly balanced, never being too sweet. I look forward to having some of their heartier fare and the day when I can enjoy a meal inside this cute cafe!

Yelp
OMG! This cafe is outstanding. Not only do they make great salads and parfait but also their basic breakfast sandwich and caprese panini sandwich are delicious. Their coffee is the bomb too. If you are a crossiant snob then look no further, Bakehaus will take your palate all the way to European bakeries. I love this place whether for breakfast, brunch, lunch or an afternoon snack. A must go!!!! They have really nice outdoor seating and the team takes great care to sanitize during covid. The team always greets you with a smile and is there to make your meal special. They use all compostable plastic and paper.

Yelp
Great little cafe that is adapting well during the pandemic. I've stopped in for coffee before for a solid cup. I prefer a darker roast coffee but they serve a great medium roast coffee that is high quality. Also had the chicken panini which was great and had high quality ingredients. The wife has had their sweet potato salad a few times and love it!

Yelp
Sadly this just didn't work for us. Breakfast burrito incredibly underwhelming, the Amy sandwich was soggy and greasy probably would benefit from toasting the bread. The sandwich we got was pretty boring. Pretty amateur hour at the checkout too. Needless to say first impression wasn't great

Yelp
Hoping that management/owners read this review. I've been here several times and usually purchase items to take away (coffee, muffins). Today I opted for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. The entire order was wrong and the experience disappointing. The staff is young, and do not seem empowered or able to "right" a wrong order. All I got was a quick "sorry" with no eye contact as they hurried away. My coffee was wrong - not gingerbread and vanilla. Instead of making a new one, they added a ton of syrup to the wrong drink making it completely undrinkable. At this time, I was also still waiting on my sandwich. After I asked about it a second time, they realized it was on the "pick up" shelf. They did not remake the sandwich which was now already cold. I get that having customers that are not happy is uncomfortable. BUT, if the establishment is at fault and the customer is still kind, it would be nice if they attempted to fix the problem.

Yelp
I just paid $12 for a nicoise salad here. I was really confused when it came and all it was, was greens with avocado and olives, no tuna, which is literally what a nicoise salad is. They said that I could add tuna salad, for an additional charge, of course. What a rip off!
google avatar

Hubert H.

Yelp
Got a chocolate croissant here. Really nice texture, very fresh. It was crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and resembled what I'd experienced in Europe years ago. Looking forward to trying savory stuff here too.
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
Definitely a very cute little coffee shop Belmont neighborhood. Ordered a breakfast sandwich and a coffee. The cashier is very friendly and know what you want.
google avatar

Hilary L.

Yelp
I didn't personally eat the food here, but a friend did. Everything she ordered was lukewarm and had to be sent back to be heated (though it tasted good, she said). The staff were courteous, and the seating looked nice, but I don't know that I'd go back. It felt a little disorganized and cramped.

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Baked goods are fresh & tasty.......prices slightly higher, but worth a try. The only hardship is parking

Yelp
Stopped in on a whim, wanted a breakfast sandwich and coffee. Holy cow, the sausage, egg and cheese on a biscuit was amazing. It held together nicely but crumbled in my mouth like a good biscuit should. I paired it was a great latte. I took home a ham and swiss croissant which may be my go to. Cannot recommend this place enough, great food, cute atmosphere.
google avatar

Yelp
Food is good, and this place has a good vibe overall. HOWEVER, for some reason it is FREEZING. Like... they must have the A/C set to 65 freezing. It was a nice fall day today (in the 60s), and it was MUCH colder inside than outside. I found it unbearable so went to an outside table to work. Maybe it's fine for some folks. I had two jackets on inside and was still very cold.
google avatar

Yelp
Love Bakehaus! Amazing pastries in the morning, terrific lunches and over the top desserts (personal favorite is the carrot cake)!! Everything is freshly prepared with the best ingredients. Lucky to have Bakehaus in Belmont.

Yelp
Disappointed in our lunch here. Had a schnitzel sandwich, and a schnitzel with pomme frites. Both schnitzels were way overdone and dry, and there were easily enough pomme frites for two to three people, and they were limp and almost soggy. Topping it off, we were seated indoors, yet the wait staff brought our order out wrapped to go in a bag. Very odd. And, $3.75 for a bag of chips?! Cute room, all the baked goods looked delicious, and based on all the other reviews, they are excellent for breakfast and baked goods. Would not return for lunch.
google avatar

Eli R.

Yelp
Excited to have a new option nearby especially during these times! They have Speedwell coffee and the pastries are great. We've had the croissants and chocolate chip cookie, both were superb. Cute little outdoor seating area as well with umbrellas.
google avatar

Yelp
Great German bakery and cafe in Cushing Square. We had a breakfast sandwich, a pretzel, and a bratwurst. Everything was really good, especially the biscuit which tasted like it had just come out of the oven. Will definitely be back here.

Karin H.

Yelp
My husband and I went yesterday and we were looking forward to the visit. Food was ok but so disappointed about the complete lack of environmental thinking. We ate there but everything came in plastic containers - with lids on. Not very nice and very far from a German bakehaus. It would of course have been so much nicer to served with real plates and utensils. When we had finished, everything was thrown away in a big waste container. No recycling or anything. So disappointing and in a way unbelievable that a place can operate like that in 2023.

G R.

Yelp
Best baked goods--croissants, scones, etc. Great breakfast sandwiches--the Angry Amy. Excellent desserts--flourless chocolate cake, coconut panda cotta with mango. And the greatest people too!!

PhatCohiba ..

Yelp
Best croissant in Boston. They are the perfect combination of crunchy layer and buttery interior. Bakehaus also has great sandwiches, salads and other treats. They have outdoor seating in this our summer of al fresco, and an interior that would be worthy of afternoon tea. A real treat in Cushing Square.
google avatar

Yelp
Went here for lunch with our two kids. They have a nice outdoor seating area. Service was friendly and quick. They had a nice variety of options for the grownups and the kids. The roasted squash salad was delish!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered breakfast sandwich, overnight muesli, and avocado toast. All great! Loved the German goodies! Great environment, just expect wait time!

Yelp
The best pastries ever!!! I always get my brunch there. I love the coffee too. Great addition to Belmont.

Yelp
I finally walked into Bakehaus in Cushing Square after hearing good things from a friend. I noticed a few groups eating at the tables outside, and went in to see what this cafe is all about. I expected it to be a typical coffee tea and pastries kind of place. They also have sandwiches, soups, some German entrées, and lots of salads. There is lots of corporate looking branding going on, so I thought it might be a chain but looking it up online I think it is a independently owned company. We ordered some German gingerbread cookies that were covered with chocolate, a Nutella filled croissant, and a blueberry muffin. We also got an old-fashioned glass bottle of orange Fanta. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The other guests and the staff were all wearing masks and socially distancing. Nobody was eating inside (with Covid-19 numbers so high) although it looked like there were three or four little tables we could have used. Anyway this place has a lot of yummy-looking dishes to choose from and next time I come I want to try to spaetzle.
google avatar

Julie M.

Yelp
We tapped Brian and his team to cater our daughters graduation party (A college and HS grad). We had over 60+ ppl and it was perfect. We had salads, sandwiches, quiche, croissants and pretzel bites. People raved about it.

Stace C.

Yelp
This place is awesome. Stumbled upon it while taking our dog for a walk. We saw another dog in the shop and asked if dogs were allowed - they said yes and gave our dog a free cookie! We ordered some breakfast sandwiches and flavored coffees. Very cozy place to spend a Sunday morning
google avatar

Lucy L.

Yelp
Who knew a German bakery would have such flaky delicious croissants! Friendly staff. Lots of sidewalk seating for the covid times. Delicious looking cakes but I can make better tasting ones. My friend's schnitzel looked very good. Price matches the high quality.

Elisa C.

Yelp
One of my favorite bakeries -- not only do they have the most gigantic croissants of all time (including flavors like chocolate, Nutella, and almond), they have fluffy biscuits, pots de crème (like little glass jars of chocolate mousse heaven), and big German soft pretzels (with salt and terrific mustard to dip them in, or a sugar-cinnamon version). Everyone is so cheerful and friendly at the counter, and the entire space makes me smile!
