The tall gentleman who brought hot chocolate to us, was very nice and friendly. I’m sorry to leave a mess for you to clean. 🙏 The paper cup is the softest, most wobbly paper cup, the card board ring is way too loose to stay in place. When I grabbed my drink, the paper bent, hot chocolate spilled out onto me, I had to rush off back to my hotel to shower and change. Not to mention the mild burn 🔥 To the owner: you shouldn’t cut corners in these cheap, soft paper cups. I’m sure I’m not the first one this accident has happened to. Really messed up our plan for the day.

Ordered a latte and a cap. They have a good machine (La Marzocco), but both of our drinks were steamed way to hot, machine may be over tuned, but it was not drinkable for over 20 min. I burned my tongue badly. The milk was clearly over steamed as it did not create any volume in the espresso, it was thin. Pastry was great.

Google
First and definitely LAST visit. Staff barely smiled. Seats are all worn out. I ordered a biscuit, hot chocolate and cappuccino. Drinks were hot… that was the best part of it. I unfortunately discovered that all sandwiches are premade and just warmed up in the microwave….big, HUGE disappointment! Don’t recommend this place to anyone at all! If I was given the option, I would give a negative star to this place 😐

Google
Looking for a cozy and quiet bakery? baked house is your place. { 5🌟} I went June 11, 2025 and it was incredible. The vibe of the little bakery was so refreshing and it was quiet which was perfect to edit some photos and relax after a hot day. I ordered the biscuit and the funfetti cookie both were really yummy. I loved the softness and it was THE perfect cookie. The staff were super cool and very sweet the lady with black hair complimented my LPS purse was incredible sweet. The environment was really nice, tables were clean, food was scrumptious and it was a 10/10 will definitely be back soon. Props to the staff again they were lovely!! I unfortunately did not get their names

Google
Staff was kind and genuine, coffee was delicious, and the atmosphere is very unique. Great spot to stop in for coffee and a pastry!

Google
Delicious coffee in a very tourist convenient location! Walking distance to 4 Corners of Law, Waterfront Park and the Battery. Next time I am going to try a pastry. Bistro seats outside and lots of tables inside. Excellent spot to people watch and pretty view of downtown architecture.

Google
Good location. Staff was friendly. However it felt very unsanitary. The vents had black mold and water stains. The bathroom was rundown. The cushions to the benches are all torn and ripped. One employee had flip flops on (he was behind the counter serving)

Google
Ordered iced mocha, tasted like watery chocolate milk. My husband and I are not “coffee snobs” but we both had a sip of the drink and agreed it was not good. Positives are the convenient location and nice barista.

Yelp
Not the warmest service but great coffee. We stood there without any greetings until the barista was ready to take our order. They have some baked goods but they don't look appetizing. Both our drip coffee and hazelnut latte were solid. For my latte, I like that it wasn't overly sweet or bitter-tasting. They also have a great space to work or study. One of the more laid-back coffee shops in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Adorable cafe that is very DOG friendly! Bring them inside. The lattes and cakes are great but a bit expensive. They make their lattes sweet by default so mention that you want less sugar ahead of time if that's what you want.

Yelp
I love this place as drinks, but lately some of the pastries have left me wanting while some of them have a lot of love built into them. Some of them seem to just be prepackaged off of a big cookie sheet. It's in a convenient spot on East Bay, which is in walking distance to Riverfront Park as well as rainbow row Being able to park downtown near these locations and walk over grab a coffee and just enjoy walking around downtown. the staff was super friendly. They were very patient with my children as we picked out a pastry.(I made sure there wasn't a line) in the inside, features a community table as well as a little nook to be able to sit down read and enjoy your coffee!

Brandon S.

Yelp
Cold brew was very weak, they replaced mine with the something else but didn't replace the entire cold brew container so the next person will get really watered down cold brew. Everyone seemed new and not exactly ready to go. And plus, we came in to cool off on a hot day and no AC in the back room. Overall, not the refreshing stop we hoped for

Yelp
We found this cute little cafe open late by accident! Storms rolled in out of nowhere and we needed to take cover. My brother in law was sad that they ran out of lemonade but they were able to make an iced black tea with raspberry instead. I, of course, had to get my vanilla latte and I'm so happy that they had oatmilk! Thank you to the establishments that continue to offer dairy and nut free options! Honestly, I didn't need a coffee, we needed shelter from the thunderstorm and needed to repay them somehow lol
google avatar

Emma P.

Yelp
Came for coffee. The interior is shabby and they had very little in the way of pastries/muffins etc. Service was a little slow. The coffee (2x cappuccino with oat milk) looked watery with no foam. I had one sip and deemed it undrinkable, it tasted like it had been made by just running hot water over previously used coffee grains. A seriously nasty cup of Joe. Don't waste your time or money.

Yelp
After walking around the French Quarter and waterfront park we were in need for a place to stop for a break from the heat! We had the peach and raspberry smoothies which were refreshing and just what we needed. There's a few tables inside where we sat for a little to cool down. There were many coffee options along with alcoholic beverages and delicious looking pastries, however I didn't get the chance to try any. A great spot for a quick breakfast or snack and coffee!
google avatar

Linna L.

Yelp
Great place for a quick coffee. I got the caramel cold brew and it was wonderful. Definitely great place to stop on the way to White Point Garden. The decor is really cute and spacious.
google avatar

Lindsey N.

Yelp
Sadly everything we tried here wasn't great, or really good. The smoothies were bland, muffin and scone were meh, and the brownie wasn't great either. Though, the atmosphere was nice. I'd definitely recommend removing those wedding cakes from the bookshelf... even if you do cakes, they're super dated as far as they're decorated.

Yelp
Really happy we stopped in here! The service was awesome, he was super friendly and personable. Ordered an iced latte and frozen margarita and both were perfect. It was small inside, not too much space but quaint just the same!
google avatar

Kelly D.

Yelp
Cute little shop that carried baked goods ( looked delicious but did not try) spiked frozen lemonade or mimosas that were good but very tart. The cold brew is delicious. We just popped in and out, but definitely a cute place where you could spend time and relax

Yelp
Second review for this bakery already! Their savory and sweet pastries never disappoint me. There's also a new coffee shop that opened next to them, so it is perfect on the weekends! I always get one sweet and one savory pastry. My boyfriend and I shared the blueberry lemon galette, and it was so tasty! I didn't know what to expect with the asparagus, potato and cream cheese danish, and it was very delicious as well. My always go-to bakery when I visit Norfolk :)

Yelp
Based on the coffee it was a really good cold brew. Everything else was nothing to write home about. The trash cans (all of them) were full although the guy working appeared not to be busy. But hey, they could have just finished a rush and haven't had time to go trash. He wasn't cleaning or stocking. Just hanging at the register with no line. The furniture looked like it was falling apart. The storage was overflowing from a side room into the seating area. Just looked dirty and unorganized which lost 2 stars for me. A little worried what the container my cold brew was made in looks like!

Yelp
Came in for a drink on a humid day, and saw raspberry black iced tea. It's good I asked if it is sweetened, because it is raspberry syrup which I didn't anticipate. I decided to go for the mint lemonade knowing it would be sweet, but at least you know what you're getting. It was disgusting, we tossed the whole thing. Cloyingly, sickly sweet syrup. I don't know why I assumed they would use real lemons.. I guess don't make assumptions. This was so gross. What a waste
google avatar

Yelp
Great location when you're walking around the city but the coffee was meh. We ordered a lava cake mocha and a honey lavender latte. Both were extremely sweet and undrinkable for the last 1/3 of the cup. Also quite overpriced. The interior is kinda cute until you realize the chairs are uneven and tables are worn down and covered with bread crumbs.
google avatar

Yelp
Wonderful scone and tasty iced caramel coffee. Clean venue, fun decor and friendly staff. Would visit again
google avatar

Tianna L.

Yelp
Says open till 7 everywhere and was looking forward to settling in with my book after purchasing a latte and dessert item but got interrupted at 5:20 being told they close in 10 minutes.
google avatar

Sarah W.

Yelp
Great place for a quick coffee and breakfast. Girl running the orders was sweet and fast too. Highly recommend this cute spot!

Morgan H.

Yelp
Amazing coffee, sweets, and staff! Wasn't sure what I wanted upon arrival and the staff quickly directed me towards a yummy coffee. And even offered to modify it if it wasn't the taste I was looking for. Not to mention the super cute atmosphere. Would recommend 100%!
google avatar

Nina B.

Yelp
Quick stop to grab something caffeinated and cool. My husband got an iced latte and I had the raspberry iced tea. Both were refreshing. We took them and walked down by the water.
google avatar

Victoria P.

Yelp
Adorable coffee and bakery shop. Great place to sit and work for a bit. Friendly service and fun drinks. They even have a few alcoholic drinks.
google avatar

Yelp
Surprisingly, not a ton of choices in Charleston when you want to go somewhere for dessert. This place has better hours than some which is helpful. Small but with a few seating options, inside and out. Both times, I got the s'mores bar, it's good, doesn't rock my world, but satisfying. I'd like to try the key lime bar next time. The coffee is very, very good and served nice and hot, the way it should be. Service is always friendly and accommodating. A solid choice of you're looking for a cafe.

Yelp
Cool little place to stop in out of the heat for a snack and coffee. Our service was wonderful, we had an engaging conversation while she prepared my iced coffee. From the moment I seen Bakehouse Charleston on Yelp I wanted a S'mores bar. This S'mores bar was good, I thought that the marshmallow topping was great. I enjoyed the graham cracker crust, I thought the thickness paired well with the rest of the S'more. As for the chocolate, it was basically whole Hershey bars laid on top of the crust and covered with the topping. Personally, I would've enjoyed a thick chocolate ganache center. This way the sweetness can be controlled better and the texture could be more balanced. One other thing that I kinda wish my S'mores bar had was more toasted top. As can be seen in my picture, I basically got none of that smoked toasted marshmallow flavor. Yes, this S'more from Bakehouse is sweet. But it's good.

Juno V.

Yelp
Our barista Ester was very friendly and kind. We got three different drinks and loved them all (easy 10/10s). The atmosphere is clean and eclectic. The menu is reasonably priced and exactly what a coffee shop should be, calm, cozy, and welcoming. Would absolutely come back!

Keith B.

Yelp
Won't Return We had eaten here several years earlier and noted that we didn't like the quiches but the traditional baked goods and the bagel sandwiches were good. So, we followed my instructions. Unfortunately, there are not bagel sandwiches. Instead they have very small biscuit sandwiches which weren't very appetizing. The only real baked good was a scone which was super dense and OK. Coffee took a very long time and we were done with much of our food by the time we got it. I won't go back.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Admittedly it was after the lunch hour, and maybe we should have known better, but microwaving a quiche that had been sitting for a while was probably not the best method (efficient, but) to warm it up. I think they may be an OK place, but should use a toaster oven or air fryer or some other way to warm up the quiche, or just serve it COLD. The flavored coffee was pretty good though.....

Brianna Z.

Yelp
Horrible service- will absolutely never come back. We came in to order drinks and were offered "limited " drinks since they were closing with in the hour... they should advertise that they stop making drinks prior to their closing time so people can be aware of that. As someone who frequents Charleston A LOT I will never come back here solely based on this experience.
google avatar

Nina Z.

Yelp
We arrived around 6:40-6:45. Did not feel welcomed in this establishment at all. Would not recommend at all. Cashier was counting money and asked us to wait a moment. Totally fine. We tried to order a smoothie but they said no because they were closing. We asked when they said 7. Didn't seem reasonable to have this type of attitude when the store closes in 15 minutes :/
google avatar

Julie A.

Yelp
Not what the pics look like. Not many baked goods in the bake house! Walked in and walked out. Friendly cashier. Small refrigerated display.

Yelp
Four of us were vacationing in Charleston, SC, about three weeks ago. We stopped here after walking around Charleston in the hot sun for about 5 hours so that we could use the restroom, get something to snack on, and, most importantly, get something to drink. There's enough room in Bakehouse for one large group and three smaller groups of 4 people to sit at their tables. Employees wore face masks, and there was a piece of paper inside the business that stated face masks were required, but it sure wasn't enforced since the employees provided customer service to everyone who placed an order regardless of their face covering status. The restaurant wasn't clean; the employees expected, as indicated by a sign on the door that requested all customers bus their tables, the customers to clean up after themselves. It's just that the employees didn't follow up with actually wiping down the tables and throwing away all trash left behind. The result was that there were discarded napkins on the floor, the floor looked like it hadn't been swept that day, and crumbs and bits of food and moisture from drinks remained on the tables. the employees were nice. We ordered an Italian prosciutto and mozzarella panini for all of us to share, a slice of key lime pie for two of them to share, and four drinks, mine of which was a lavender green tea. I found out real quick by watching the employees behind the counter that the food that is sold was pre-made and put into the refrigerated glass display case for customers to see. The employee just removed the slice of key lime pie and served it. However, we had asked the employee to cut the panini into four pieces. He took the pre-made panini out of the display case, heated it up in the microwave, cut it into four pieces and served it. I just wish it was a fresh sandwich. I didn't taste the key lime pie, but those who ate it said that it was good. The panini was just OK in flavor. I thought the panini was very overpriced for the quality and the amount of food we received. The drinks were good. Overall, this place was OK.

Yelp
I was disappointed to see so few pastries in the case this morning. The table I sat at was dirty and had a ton of crumbs on it, presumably from the day before. Note: their hours are wrong on Yelp, they open at 8am currently.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Stopped in on a hot day of sightseeing. The employees were very friendly, and made out drink very quickly. We ordered a frozen mint lemonade. Other reviews criticized this as being too sweet, but we all felt it was nicely balanced. Overall, this was a nice place to stop in and take a break.

Megan V.

Yelp
This place is really cute and has a lot of options for drinks as well as food! The staff were all great and the service was quick. However if you're a tea person I do not recommend, I got their raspberry black tea and it was extremely bitter. The lattes are good.

Abigail H.

Yelp
I got done work and wanted a latte. It was $9 and was probably the worst coffee I've ever had. It had no flavor, just tasted like a glass of milk and the service was not great. Won't be back but it's a cute atmosphere!
google avatar

Brandy S.

Yelp
Bought 2 large salted caramel lattes that were undrinkable, and we threw them away. The caramel flavor was not good and there was way too much salt. The guy making coffee was also pouring coffee into old jugs as he made them, kind of weird... waste of $12.

Leofwynn H.

Yelp
meh. adverisement for the shop is exaggerate. coffee sure. but baked goods, lunch and craft beers. pathetic
google avatar

Anna Catherine K.

Yelp
Incredible cup of coffee! I loved the cozy-yet-modern atmosphere. The library room was adorable. We had sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits and they were to die for! Friendly service, too.
google avatar

Meg C.

Yelp
I love this little coffee place! There food is delicious and not like Starbucks out of a bag and into a toaster. They have creative coffee flavors and I'm bummed I didn't try the s'mores bar or lemon bar. The interior is very cute and trendy but comfy too. It's great for early morning and quick bite to eat before exploring the city. Casual environment very relaxed and laidback Definitely coming back!
google avatar

Raquel S.

Yelp
Stopped here for late breakfast on our way out of town. Very cute place and the food is delicious. We ordered the quiche and a sausage egg and cheese biscuit. I really wish they would time it so the food comes out together. They gave us the quiche right away and the breakfast sandwich took over 5 minutes to come out. We thought they had forgotten to make it!
google avatar

Deanna D.

Yelp
We stopped here to get a quick coffee and dessert while walking around downtown Charleston. The specialty frozen coffee drinks are yummy. We ordered the mocha chocolate mint and salted caramel coffee drinks. We also ordered key lime pie too. Great service! Cute shop in the area.

Daniel D.

Yelp
Ansley & Audra were fantastic! My coffee was great and I highly recommend this place to any locals or travelers.

Yelp
It's June- we are walking about Charleston in mid-morning and we pass this epic sign about a frozen mint-lemonade. Now- I should have insisted on going in right then and there and getting one- but hubby said "we'll get one on the way back" The reason I say I should have gone in right away is because I would have had one on the way out to Rainbow row and had another on the way back- easy. Why? Because it was that good! Who knew? I never thought to put mint in lemonade and then make it frozen! Refreshing took to a whole other level. The baked goods case was tempting me- but I had been running over-heated and food didn't sound appetizing at the moment. That didn't stop hubby from grabbing a fun-fetti cookie and indulging. I wish I had gone here everyday I was in Charleston. Seriously!
google avatar

Vernice S.

Yelp
Great location for a coffee/bake shop to stop while strolling the neighborhood. We saw the sign & had to stop. The Frozen Mint Lemonade sign caught my eye. I did not disappoint. Went back the next day to grab another one.

Yelp
Bakehouse Charleston on East Bay Street in Charleston is a great place to go for coffee, desserts, drinks, and much more. I really like the atmosphere and location that works well for a business meeting or getting some work done. The staff here is very accommodating and welcoming. Well worth a visit.

Andrea G.

Yelp
READ BEFORE YOU ORDER! We came in here for a late lunch snack. It was storming outside, and we were hungry+wet. I noticed nobody else was in the shop, which was odd because it was raining heavily outside. I ordered a ham and cheese panini with a latte. Both were awful. The ham was red and plain old disgusting! It was pulled out of the display case and Microwaved... As for the latte, it was fine, but nothing special about it. I could have made better at home. My daughter got a chicken and cheese panini, which was okay, but packed with artificial cheese that was supposed to be cheddar? The staff was okay, but they were slow even though we were the only people in the shop. There wasn't any PUBLIC bathroom, so I'm assuming the employees get a private one. Nice. The only reason this is 2 stars is because it was sanitary and my daughter liked her frozen lemonade. I wouldn't go back. FYI: everything is super expensive and overpriced. For what we got, it was a rip off.
google avatar

William S.

Yelp
Tasty lemon crackle & coffee cake---anticipation of the key lime pie has to wait another day!!
google avatar

James C.

Yelp
This used to be our usual place to get coffee and a breakfast sandwich in Charleston but today they lost our business. The workers acted like we were putting them out by coming in, I paid over $5 for a caramel macchiato and when they gave it to me the cup was only half full. The lady then said I would have to pay an additional dollar to fill the cup up! I ordered a bacon egg and cheese biscuit and they gave me less than a quarter slice of bacon on the sandwich. This is unfortunate as we used to love to come here but this was our last time.
google avatar

Henry K.

Yelp
My family and I visiting from New Jersey stopped by here on our last day, I'm sorry it was our last day (8/31/22) .What a great place, we had some scones, lattes and Iced tea. Wish we were there longer, food and drinks were excellent great service , we'll be back.
google avatar

Scott A.

Yelp
This is one of the first result for desserts in Charleston so I decided to visit for after dinner drinks and a dessert snack. I wasn't impressed. The first thing that bugged me was the hardline sign on the door, "No mask no service." This isn't March 2020, there isn't any reason for that fear or the harshness. Fortunately, there was a party inside already without masks so we went in and Noone said anything. The two drinks we got were mediocre - iced coffee not even filled up and iced Chai latte is just ok. We also got a coconut macaroon, which was actually pretty good. On the way out we got another dose of the negativity that added to feeling unwelcome was a sign demanding that we "bus your own tables!" Why? It's 630 pm and when we left no one was in there so why the stress? Mediocre drinks, good macaroon, poor customer treatment adds up to an unwelcoming environment I'm just not interested in going back to and I wouldn't recommend it either.

Yelp
The best coffee I have had in years. The treats are good too. Totally recommend this establishment if your in the area.
