A Complete Guide to Austin Restaurants Featured in Movies and TV | Eater Austin

"There aren’t any red staplers at Baker St. Pub & Grill, but there are plenty of delicious fish and chips, draft beer, and zany decor covering its walls. Writer and director Mike Judge chose this South Austin pub as the filming location for his 1999 black comedy film Office Space. The bar was made over as a fictional restaurant chain named Chotchkie’s, where burned-out corporate employee Peter (Ron Livingston) meets a waitress named Joanna (Jennifer Aniston). The two quickly bond over bad management and kung fu. It’s open for dine-in, delivery, and takeout options." - Marisa Mirabal

January 2025 Baker St Pub & Grill was similar to a British pub. It was pretty big inside and had several rooms with a patio outside, game room with pool tables, bar, and stage area. It had a very friendly atmosphere and nice interior design. The bar was rather large. It was part of a shopping center with other popular places but easily found a parking spot. I ordered the Chicken & Avocado Sandwich with tater tots along with a beer on tap. The staff working there are very friendly. The sandwich was large with a grilled chicken breast with cheddar cheese, serrano-garlic mayo, lettuce, tomato & avocado slices. It was pretty good and decent for a beer pub. I tried my wife’s Fish and Chips and tasted very good. So overall this pub is a great place to hang out and watch a game or listen to live music.

Google
Fun vibes with outstanding service! The fish and chips were amazing! Super crispy delicious Atlantic cod -10 out of 10 stars- a must try. The homemade tartar sauce blew us away. The burger was fantastic- very flavorful and though cooked well done was juicy. Make sure you save room because you don’t want to miss their bread pudding and homemade ice cream.

We walked in around 1:00 and sat at the nice u-shaped bar. 5 customers on 1 side 2 on the other. Bartender was slow to acknowledge us, no greeting, no smile, nothing..., took our drink order, my cocktail was good. Took a while for her to take our food order, I don't believe she even asked us if we wanted to order, just stood in front of us looking at us like we were a bother. Food came promptly and The fish and chips were phenomenal! Burger was good. We we're visiting Austin and the surrounding area and this was the 1st establishment out of at least 10 that we were treated lousy. The rest of Austin are the nicest, friendliest most welcoming people.

Google
Had the fish and chips to go. It was good. There was no wait staff had to wait to order with the bartender. He was kind. There seemed to be alot of regulars at the bar when I walked in. I enjoyed a drink while I waited for the food. A little dark in there. Place looked big inside. Had some out door seating too. I would go back to tet a different food item.

I come her for live karaoke on Thursdays and they do not disappoint! The food is pretty good and the love band karaoke they have are fantastic and they are funny as well! It's always a lot of fun!

Google
Everyone loved their fish and chips but I made the biggest mistake ordering the Nacho plate. The cheese was cold and hardened, there was little to no salsa or beans on the chips and the chicken was Luke warm and dry. Maybe I'll update it when I get the recommended dish next time

Google
Went with a large group to celebrate a friend's milestone in life. Staff were very nice, accommodating, and organized. The food is always incredible and just keeps improving I think. Some items on the menu may not be available. Ask your waiter to see if what you're interested in is available!

Google
This place is awesome. Specifically this branch in South Austin too. My favorite dishes are usually their fish and chips, tots, mozza sticks, and wagyu burger. Today though, it’s $3 special taco Tuesday and decided to adventure into Fried Fish Taco with Serrano Mayo. Oooooooo my new favouriteeeeeee!!! It was the bomb!! For such a reasonable price, the flavors and crunch are 🔥!! Definitely coming back for more and highly recommended!!

Yelp
Baker Street is a good vibes, low-key Pub with great bar food and drink specials. That right there sums it up. Is it a sports bar? Yeah it kinda a sports bar. Do they have live music? Yeah they have live music sometimes. Overall, the ambiance is dim lighting, Lots of seating. Large outdoor patio area with outdoor bar. Pool tables. Big screen TVs. Dart boards. Is a food good? Hell yes! In fact if you want a solid fill you up kind of burger, definitely hit this place up! On Wednesdays, they have 1/2 off all burgers on the menu. That's a hard deal to beat! On Mondays, they have 1/2 off fish and chips, which, in my opinion, is some of the best in South Austin! All in all, it's bar food. So don't come expecting something other than that. But it's all Great! If you want a stiff drink, this is another reason to come check them out. Aside from daily drink specials. They have a pretty long happy hour throughout the week, and the bartenders can definitely pour you a serious drink if you're in the mood for a cocktail. Nothing too fancy, but the bartenders definitely know what they're doing!

Yelp
I would sum up this place as "Good vibes, super casual & friendly staff, GREAT FISH & CHIPS, draft beer, and nice big patio!" We always feel like we stopped by a friend's house to chill and have some good snacks and drinks when we're at Baker St. Everyone just minds their own business and has fun there. AMBIANCE: The restaurant is decorated to give the vibe of British pub. It looks old and rundown but that is the charm of it in my opinion. They have a great big patio wrapping around the side of the pub to enjoy your meal outdoors when the weather permits. FOOD: We like to come here for FISH & CHIPS and black & tan draft beer! Their fried fish batter is crispy and the fish is flaky and their tartar sauce is always delicious. The thick cut fries are crispy on the outside and soft goodness inside! I think their fish & chips should get more credit than some of other restaurants I've tried that are famous for seafood and also have fish & chips on their menu. SERVICE: The food & drink service is pretty fast and every time we go there, their staff are so friendly and laidback which I love. NOTE: We only went there (many times) during the day on the weekdays so it might be different during the weekend and/or night time. VERDICT: All in all, I would recommend this pub if you're looking to immerse yourself in the local scene or for a place to chill and enjoy your drinks with friends/partner.

Yelp
Good ole reliable! If you are looking for a place to do trivia, watch sports, or catch up with friends then this is a great spot! Every week the hosts pick challenging trivia topics that include a lightning round for free cider or coupons. Last night my friends and I went and although we got 2nd to last place in the rankings for 1st place, we did win the lightning round!! We got $5 coupons off which was such a special treat. I like going to trivia here more than other places because the inside is decorated nicely, they serve good drinks and there are plenty of tables to sit at. I ordered my usual which is a Tito's blueberry lemonade drink for $7 and I was not let down with the sweet blueberry lemonade combination that perfectly mixed Tito's vodka. I ordered deliciously made sweet potato fries for $4.99 which was also a hit. The fries were a good mix of soft and crunchy. The menu mainly consisted of fish, chips, and burgers. They have a wide selection of alcoholic drinks, but they do lack IPA options. They do have one or two salads, but I do wish that they had more healthy options. It is a pub so *healthy* is not always a priority, which I understand. Since it is near Halloween, they decorated the pub with pumpkins, bats on the ceilings, and festive lights! I recommend this place for a good time!

Yelp
Great food! Great service! Mondays are the best to get fish and chips with a Guinness, bartender rocks!

Yelp
Baker Street's fish and chips are AMAZING, especially with a 512 IPA (go local!). The fish is coated in a tasty batter, light and flavorful, not too greasy, very crunchy. French fries are exactly what you dream of, square cut crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, served extra hot. Tartar sauce surprisingly good (I say this as a person who generally doesn't care for tartar sauce). What got me in the mood for fish and chips? What doesn't? Baker Street does them right!

Yelp
Great place for karaoke with either a live band or stand alone. The nachos and wings are absolutely delicious. The buffalo sauce was rich and the chicken juicy. The nachos plentiful and both worth the price. The drinks were fair, a bit overpriced but worth it for the great karaoke with the ability to dance when warranted. They have lots of regulars that put out a good show and for the most part a very friendly atmosphere. Waitresses were all helpful and kept the drinks including water coming. The band was super friendly supportive of the karaoke singers and have a wide repertoire of known music.

Yelp
Got a to go order on St Patrick's Day, 12:10 PM. Got home with fish & chips, hubby ate his food. I had to toss my corned beef and cabbage $13.99 in the trash. It was so nasty. 1 inch of cabbage. Dried out rubber corned beef. Mushy potatoes. Two hard carrots that I couldn't even bite into. No way to do business.  Thanks again for ruining my special holiday. Rose

Yelp
Found this delightful place when my daughter's friend invited us to the Wednesday trivia night. We had a blast! The group that runs trivia night is fun and keeps it moving. The pubs food and drinks are good. It's full with a nice age mix. I recommend this place. When I checked for more details on their website, I noticed they have music and comedy on other nights so I'll come back to check this out too.

Kim V.

Yelp
I went to try their fish & chips and was very disappointed. The fish was so tough and rubbery that I had to actually spit out several bites.

Yelp
The Fish and chips are top notch! Very flavorful. Crisp and delicious! That beer batter is perfection!

Yelp
To get to the nitty gritty. My husband, that we're currently working on getting his citizenship, doesn't have any form of U.S ID. I tried to get a drink from the bar and they told him he couldn't get a drink because they don't accept any form of Mexican Identification. Half of time our bartender (blonde pigtails) would leave half way through us deciding what we wanted to order and had a stank attitude. I'm usually so sweet, and never worry about having bad service, but tonight we did. I didn't think disrespect could be ran across my husband Without a doubt, won't be coming back because of that. And sure as shit, will not come back once my husband has a "non Mexican form of identification."

Yelp
F'n comedy night is f'n fun! Food and service great as always. Had the shepherd's pie. Hubby got his usual fish&chips. Everything was great. Bartender can pour a 1/2&1/2. Get a Lyft.

Yelp
I used to love this place, but my last two incidents with it have been piss poor. I ordered fish and chips through Uber Eats because I have an ankle injury and can't drive. When I got my order it was cold and rubbery. I called the restaurant and asked if I could get it replaced because what I got was inedible and was told by the person i spoke with on the phone not to order from Uber Eats and they won't replace the order. I had a similar experience the last time with the to-go drink being nothing but ice. I paid $3.50 for 3 ounces of soda. I called to complain and was basically told tough. I know Austin restaurants no longer care about service because the tourism business will keep them in business, but this is ridiculous.

Yelp
If you think this place is just a pub you are very mistaken. Pub, sport bar and amazing food is what you'll find here. The service is ok, nothing to write home about, but very cute inside and offers live music I usually order the fish and chips, my mom only ever orders the Reuben and we are both very happy in our safe space. However, we decided last time to get the loaded waffle fries and they did not disappoint! All in all this is not fine dining, but damn good food and a great selection of beer.

Yelp
Wow! What a local Austin gem. My boyfriend and I have been wanted to stop by and have a drink at Baker St Pub because we live only a block walking distance and we decided to go on a Friday night when they had a live band playing. The band was absolutely fabulous. They put on a Michael Jackson thriller act and we were laughing so hard, tears were coming out of our eyes. It also happened to be Boomer Singles night where they were speed dating/dancing. Too much fun! There's a couple pool tables in there, large dance floor, plenty of seating. Great for all ages, especially older crowds. You can bet we will be back here on a weekly basis.
google avatar

LT B.

Yelp
Not the pub ambiance I was expecting; more like a neighborhood sports bar. But I can see how it would be a fun place to watch football (soccer) matches on the big-screen TV. The food was plentiful and full-fried. Friendly wait-staff.
google avatar

Kailah B.

Yelp
Ordered from Uber Eats. Fish and chips were fresh and delicious. It was the second time I had it. I wish the large portion came with 3 pieces of fish. The mac and cheese had fantastic flavor and it was a good size portion. Warming it up the next day there was a bunch of oil separating from the food. Didn't stop me from eating it. Just as delicious but I tried my best to soak up the grease. I would order from here again.
google avatar

Todd S.

Yelp
Dang. Why doesn't this place have a higher rating? My wife and I came on a Sunday afternoon and devoured two orders of fish-N-chips which had VERY generous portions of great fries. Also had beers and a cocktail. The ambiance and service were very nice too. Really hit the spot with the cod planks. We'll be back with friends next time!

Yelp
Started driving up Lamar with no plan where to go, saw this place as I was driving and decided to stop because the tree was decorated! Parking was easy and we were able to seat ourselves quickly. There was plenty of seating inside and it seemed like a nice place to get some drinks and hang out. It was happy hour when we arrived so I got a Moscow Mule for $5.50. We ended up getting the bacon cheeseburger (with no cheese) and the burger that is topped with a fried egg. Both were served with fries and ended up being very good portions. However, our server advised that the burger is served plain, no lettuce, tomato or mayo. I would have been very disappointed if it came out that way. The server did recommend a Serrano aioli and to add lettuce, tomato and onion which I did. The burgers were cooked well and had good flavor but overall it was nothing spectacular. It was a good place but due to all the other options on that road I don't know if I would go back.

Yelp
I here on St Paddy's Day 2024 ordered on the website page 2 shepherds pie and fish and chips wasn't until I traveled from north Austin to south Austin to find out that they weren't taken online orders and that they didn't have shepards pie this is my first and last time coming to this place DO BETTER

Jyl F.

Yelp
Holy Shit! This food slaps!!! Like you know how sometimes you get nachos and all the bottom chips get no love? Well, they load up every individual chip!!! and the salsa is the perfect amount of spice. I also got the cod strips, the perfect amount of crispy batter on the outside, and soft steamy fish in the middle. It came with you can tell in-house made tartar sauce, lemons, and malt vinegar. They got that good-good ranch, you know the one! And don't even get me started on the loaded potato soup. It's fucking orgasmic! This place is stoner heaven!

Yelp
Food: 3/5 Solid bar food on a good night, but Baker tends to struggle with consistency. That being said, the price is a value for what you receive! Service: 5/5 Some of the best bartenders in Austin! They operate with a no-BS vibe and are very quick to provide stellar service. Environment: 5/5 Fantastic patio and Baker ALWAYS has something interesting going on every night of the week from live music, to trivia, to watching live sports!

Yelp
Me and my girl friend was looking for somewhere new to eat as we are new to Austin and decided to give this place a try, we had the nachos for appetizers they tasted amazing only issue I had with them is how much you get for the cost, the bartender we had was amazing very knowledgeable great recommendations we had the fish and chips and patty melt and we were both very impressed with the food...the only reason this place doesn't get a 5 star in my opinion is it took way to long to get this food out ....mentioning to the bartender it seemed it was taking a long time and she said it was because they were busy .....we looked around it was not busy at all just a lazy excuse in my opinion.....regardless we will back

Kate V.

Yelp
Went there for lunch, at 1:00. When we finally got a menu, a table of 5 received 2 dinner menus and 2 lunch menus. We all ordered off the lunch menu. When the bill came we were all charged the dinner price. Server, who obviously had no experience or training, tried to tell us the computer put it in and the prices were because lunch stopped at 1:00 , before we ordered. After some back-and-forth we asked to speak to the manager. All very civil on all sides. Server returned with different excuses, supposedly from the manager, and the info that lunch service was until 2:00 so we were okay on that. One of the excuses was that what I ordered was not on the lunch menu. I took the menu from her and pointed out that it was. She left again and returned with the amount taken off my bill (but still the original item at the original price). Then my companions, who all had also returned their bills for correction, noticed that no changes had been made. We again brought it to the server's attention. She got defensive and started being snippy. They ended up paying the extra amount rather than hassle with it anymore. We never saw a manager, unless it was the guy who came out to smoke on the patio a couple of times. The food and ambiance were fine, but the service was poor from start to the unpleasasnt finish. I blame the manager who didn't care enough to train the server or to deal with the problem directly with us.

Yelp
Looking for daytime service? Pass on this place. Drinks and vibes at night are pretty good but service quality plummets during the day. I called several times in a row to attempt ordering food ahead of time but no one picked up or called back. When you come in and approach the bar, you're completely ignored -without any acknowledgement- for however long it takes them to finally get to you (this time was 10 minutes, but I've waited up until 20). I'd understand a couple times of this happening but EVERY time I attempt daytime service? Just feels like they don't care much.
google avatar

Yelp
Baker St. Pub is a great place is you want a food patio area to have a drink and some good appetizers. During the week they have some good happy hour deals and daily events such as Karaoke or Trivia. Their Potachos were a very good portion and delicious as well. The only downside was that they were out of the drinks we wanted and the tonic from my first drink was flat. The waiter was amazing and accommodated us quickly! Would definitely visit again!

Yelp
Perhaps this place is good if you're looking to grab a beer at a traditional Irish Pub. I can't attest to that either way. We landed here because they close at 2am and nothing else in the area was still open after seeing the show. I ordered a Tito's Blueberry Lemonade & "Potachos" (which are basically potato chips, topped with beer cheese, black beans, cilantro, and jalapenos. Despite the fact that I forwent any of the meat options (beef, chicken, or BBQ pulled pork,) I was still charged full-price. And they weren't very good. For the Blueberry Lemonade, I watched the bartender squeeze "SimplySqueeze Reàl Cocktail Ingredients Blueberry Purée Infused Syrup" into my cocktail. (If you don't know what that is, I encourage you to look it up.) It was awful. In fact, the entire experience was awful. But it all started with the way that we were greeted. When I approached the bar, I said: "Hi. How are you?" The response was: "Pretty bad. It's been a day." Well, okay. But you're at work so perhaps you could put on a happy face for the customers. It turns out that he wasn't the only grumpy employee. After attempting to avoid this particular bartender, I discovered that the other guy on duty was even more pissed off than the first guy. I won't go into too many additional details. All you need to know is that we were chased out of the place by cockroaches. I'm not even exaggerating. We overlooked the first three sightings of cockroaches but when we saw two literally crawling up some guy's leg at the table across from us ... well, that was our cue to leave (and never return.)

Yelp
Super cool environment. Very relaxing and spacious. Food was good and service was good as well.

Yelp
I'd only been to the location up north that closed down a while back, so I was familiar with the bar. There is a laid back vibe to this location and a bit older crowd. But being older did not stop them from being fun. We had such a good time last night listening to the band and dancing. We started our evening outside on the their deck. The service out there was really attentive and kind. We ordered the beer queso and chips to nibble on while we drank our beer and sangrias. I really enjoyed both the salsa and beer queso. We then headed inside to watch the band and have one more drink before we left. I wish I knew the name of the band from last night because they were really fun and I'd recommend going when they're there.
google avatar

Heather B.

Yelp
I appreciate that they've always been willing to accommodate our different group activities--happy hours, birthdays, etc. We get good service, our drinks are always correct, and we like the food. My friend swears by the fish and chips! The fries are also well-seasoned, and good by themselves. The music Friday nights is great fun too!
google avatar

LESLI D.

Yelp
Mediocre food at ridiculously high prices. I ordered their chicken and avocado sandwich with no bread and a salad (lettuce with a few croutons). The menu said $13.99 which is already high for what it is...I literally got a piece of overcooked chicken with 3 thin avocado slices in a limp piece of lettuce on the plate. And they charged me $15.98...not $13.99 as the menu stated. With tax and a small unearned tip I spent $20 for a piece of chicken. Service was not good either... I had to flag down the server every time we needed anything, including the bill, because he kept disappearing in the back for long periods of time. I wrote a comment on my check that it was outrageous and I guess they didn't like that because they commented to my friend that I wrote something "unkind"...? Not unkind just truthful. Needless to say...I won't be frequenting this place.

Yelp
Everything was very good, we will definitely be back for more fish and chips!! The service was excellent, our wait staff was remarkably attentive to our needs, I just love the pub vibe and the expansive outdoor seating area.
google avatar

Kieran H.

Yelp
The atmosphere was chill, food was a little disappointing. I thought my fish and chips would be a big fillet piece and they were skinny little strips. Fries were also a bit on the cold side. I would give it another chance though.

Melissa S.

Yelp
Our waitress literally forgot us for almost an hour. Had to flag her down to get our bill. Don't go on Tuesday night - the "comedy" is awful.

Sydney S.

Yelp
Got delivery here, they forgot items and sent me a salad with no dressing. Pretty bad

M L.

Yelp
Sean is the reason we're regulars. The level of customer service he offers is incomparable. He remembers your favorite drink and is one of the best bartenders in the city. Bakers St. Is lucky to have him on thier team.
google avatar

Robin W.

Yelp
We went here during the late afternoon, so we were the only ones not at the bar so it took awhile for the waitress to come over. She was very friendly and got our drinks and food order in and the food arrived quickly, she was also very nice. I had the half order fish and chips, which was more than plenty. The fish was crisp not greasy and the fries were perfect. I loved the tartar sauce ended up dipping my fries in it to finish it. The hubby had the bacon cheddar burger with onion rings. He enjoyed it no complaints. The decor was neat!

Yelp
I will keep this as brief as my one and final visit here. ordered a dogfish head 90 minute IPA from the "bottles and cans" menu. I was brought a pint glass of urine-yellow nondescript beer with zero beautiful foam or lacing, which could only pass as an IPA to a frat bro. unfortunately for whoever made this switcharoo, I am well familiar with this world-class beer and was quite puzzled by the situation. I expected this beer to come out in a bottle, along with a classic IPA glass, as would be done in a respectable establishment. what I got instead was a message that whoever runs this place thinks they can pass off some nonsense garbage to their idiot customers, charged at a premium. big yikes. this is clearly a failing bar and I cannot wait to visit the new business taking over their location when it inevitably happens very soon.
google avatar

Rob P.

Yelp
There's nothing wrong with Baker St. Pub on it's own, but I wouldn't normally go there. It's too big for me and too bright, and frankly, far from my house. But I've been here twice now... once for a live band karaoke and once for comedy. The second time I was lucky enough to be there early enough for a great happy hour where I got a $2 or $3 shitty beer. I guess if I lived in the area I would be more happy about this bar, but I really don't think about it much as it stands.

Jaclyn J.

Yelp
Great burgers, trivia & stand up comedy night are always a good time, service is typically so so but the bartenders are ALWAYS a hit or miss. Caleb (bartender) is rude af. Clearly hates his job and should find a new one. SERVICE industry isn't for everyone
google avatar

Matt P.

Yelp
Good food and table service in general. Disappointed that they took the fried fish app off the menu, leaving only the somewhat pricey platter option. New tables outside were a poor choice. Live band karaoke is great. One of the inside bartenders (scruffy dude) is always rude/miserable. I want to like this place more, but they need to up their game on atmosphere.
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING!! The food is delicious and they have such a great selection of beer. Mondays are super chill and they have pool/darts. There is always something going on each day of the week (live music, comedy nights, etc.) The staff is super friendly and attentive. I would definitely recommend giving this gem a try!!

Yelp
Ell was amazing today. Came in 30 minutes before my long shift for a beer and a shot, ordered food for here (wings) and to go ((Reuben). Fast and attentive service was provided. Everything was fresh and I was out and satisfied and on time for my shift which I no longer dreaded coming too. Thank you so much.

Yelp
This is a fun place with great drinks and good service my favorite has to be the lemon drop martini Not to mention they have open mic nights for stand up and trivia nights I haven't eaten much there but I do remember the fries being good.

Yelp
The service wasn't all that great. Went on a Monday evening and sat at the outside bar. The semifinals was on and asked for the sound to be turned on. There were at max, literally 12 people with no one inside. I was told, it wasn't going to happen because the manager didn't want to turn on the sound. There was no explanation other than it wasn't going to happen. Drinks were subpar. There are better places in Austin to drink.

Yelp
This place is great. Food was good, service was good, the house band was jamming out too. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
I would love to review the food or drinks of this place but unfortunately we received neither. After being there for an hour without service and waiting at the bar to get drinks which we didn't get, we finally just left. I asked the bartender who to order from and as he walked away from me to go back to doing absolutely nothing he said, you can order wherever you want, there are servers. Where?!?! Not one person even recognized that we were there and hungry/thirsty. Don't waste your money on an establishment that clearly doesn't care.

Yelp
Drinks average, service miserable. Giving a two star because the server wasn't rude. Waited 45 minutes to get our food, finally asked the server where it was. As soon as she goes back, we get the food. Thought hey maybe it'll be warm, but no, room temperature at best. Food very very subpar. Super dissapointed.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, decent drinks, but food and service are lacking. If you're craving something sweet, don't fall for the "bread pudding." It's a soggy, ubersweet mess that seemed to have been made on the spot with 2 stacked slices of Wonder Bread, a lot of milk and sugar. Servers are nice enough, but hard to find when you need them. I love the location and the vibe. If food and service were a lot better, I'd be here all the time.
