Bakery presentation of pastries & cakes products needs major work. Not appealing. Everything squashed together. Suggestion, each item needs its own nice looking tray. Needs to look inviting.

Google
affordable, delicious, tried and true polish comfort food. love the chicken noodle soup, pierogis, and pickled sides.

This is the place! Bakestone Bakery ( formerly Northside) is THE place for the best prepared home cooked comfort food in Greenpoint. In a rapidly gentrifying hood full of $36/lb cheese and charcuterie arrivistes it sure is nice to have a place nearby where you can take home full home cooked European meals for under $15/head. Their breads, pastries, danish snd babkas are all amazing. After hitting beautiful McGolrick Park you come here for a simple meal of fresh pierogis, Greenpoints best chicken, barley and vegetable soups and sweet cheese and fruit filled blintzes. Their chicken cutlets, stuffed cabbage (meat or yummy vegetarian with kasha and mushroom sauce) and vegetable/potato babkas/puddings also terrific. Don’t be another Gentrifying Tool. Support these great, independently owned, small local Polish businesses before they are all gone.

I just went to get a dinner. While I paid and got my change the lady that took care of me thought I was looking at me putting my money away but I indeed was watching her while she looked at me and my necklace and turned around and started saying something to her co-worker. While I take my food. I shake my head and say WOW ! …. This place always wants to talk about people.

Yelp
Delivered soup to my son - he loved it! They came quickly and he said it helped him feel better

Yelp
This was my first time trying Polish food. The interior was cozy and definitely gave that Eastern European vibe. They change up the menu everyday. We ordered pierogis (cheese and beef) and a cheese blintz I would rate those 8/10. We also ordered the beef tripe soup, which lacked in flavor and seasoning but was nice to try a traditional dish. The service was friendly and they helped with any questions.

Yelp
Favorite place in Greenpoint to pick up chicken soup! We usually get two quarts at a time. Their chicken soup is super flavorful and comforting especially when you're sick or cold!! Ordered a jelly donut and a variety of mini donuts. I wouldn't really call this a donut. The dough felt more like a bread... like a jelly bread. There wasn't a lot of jelly filling (as seen in the picture) I didn't even end up finishing the mini donuts.

Yelp
Love this place....Good People, Great Food Polish Soul Food Cures, Strengthens and Prevents

Yelp
I come here for their pastries. Each quarter slab comes to approximately $7. My favorite by far is the poppy seed layer cake! It's so moist, with layers of custard, poppy seed sponge, and topped with cherry jam(?) and chocolate ganache. Unfortunately they didn't sell them today, so I settled for their almond fantasy cake. It had a jelly-like texture, which was a bit strange. The almond marzipan flavor was spot on, with crunchy walnut bits and fruit mixed inside. Their poppyseed cheesecake and napoleonka are just average and not that memorable.

Yelp
I live in the neighborhood and get lunch here very often, always take bread home. food always fresh, good.

Yelp
I was so happy to find Northside Bakery on my recent trip to Brooklyn. I came to the Greenpoint neighborhood specifically to find Polish food, books, and products, and hopefully have some opportunity to speak Polish in real situations. It's been a while since I was living in Warsaw, and I missed the quality Polish products I used to buy. Originally, I was looking for another store, but I saw Northside's window and thought "OHH, polish bakery and dishes for lunch!" It was perfect for me. I came in out of the rain, warmed up, ate some tasty treats, and had one of my most memorable times on my trip to NYC. I went in looking for something similar to czarny chleb, and the woman serving me suggested the whole rye with sunflower seeds - and this was EXACTLY what I was looking for. I was so happy with it. The flavor, texture, and size were precisely what I had hoped for. Truly baked in the Polish style, I am unable to find anything like this here in Rochester. The bread was fresh and just perfect! Not very expensive in my opinion either. I also ordered some pierogi with mushroom and cabbage. I wanted to order more, but I wanted to keep within my calorie count too. There was SO much to choose from! The sweets looked so tempting, and the homemade surowki and hot dishes looked amazing. I had coffee - and that was good too! I sat for a while and peopled watched. I listened to the customers and staff talk in Polish, and just enjoyed my time there. When I decided to leave I decided to go back and order some buraczki to go. I finally got up the courage to speak Polish myself, and started up a conversation with another of the ladies and I really felt like they were warm and welcoming and caring and they love what they do. It makes it meaningful when the staff really care about what they do, and I was so happy to be able to share in that. I can't wait to make my way back to Brooklyn someday and visit again! Dziękuję!

Yelp
Location: close to moe's doughnut place but moe fails to get out their rainbow donut at 9...so I am here. It's kinda family version of bakery and polish food place. Local polish people came here for breakfast, and I came here for bakery. Bakery: they have a lot of different kinds bakeries. I went for donut. Like I mentioned, if you are looking for chewy yeast fried donut, this is not your place.. Service...not much service to speak of Price: cheap. 3 STAR

Paulina T.

Yelp
I love the ladies and nice atmosphere. But they have bugs in there food. It happen to me once finding it in casha, I said myself, maybe its just coincidence, week later another bug in different dish - meatballs in dill sauce, bug was swimming along in sauce. Sorry I couldn't take a pic. It was disgusting. Im buying food over there to feed the kids to save me time cooking and Im ashamed right now.

Kev B.

Yelp
Kind of a weird place. Like they ration their almond milk. Maybe you'll get it, maybe you won't.

Beny B.

Yelp
Authentic Polish bakery in Brooklyn. I venture all the way from Manhattan to pick up fresh bread and buns at Northside Bakery. It's worth the commute. Their bread is delicious, their buns always fresh. Make sure to try the pumpernickel buns with onions, as they are incredible. I also really enjoy their cheesecake. It's just perfect. In the summer they sell an excellent cold borscht soup called chlodnik. I would recommend Northside Bakery to anyone looking for great quality breads, buns and sweets.

Yelp
Visited this bakery yesterday and had amazing food. The staff was awesome, helped guide us to an amazing lunch. We had stuffed cabbage and it was great, the best I've ever had. Thank you for a great meal.

Yelp
Go for the green meat...stay for the bad attitude I work in the food industry...and I have never left a bad review of anyplace!....but then again I never recieved green meat...the girls behind the counter are cute...but no patience. I pointed at the glass counter and asked what is that...she said veal...I said great. Unfortunately what she put in the plastic tray is not what I was pointing at....I said sorry thats not the one i wanted...she said no problem looked at me and threw it in the garbage....(not sure why she couldnt just put it back, and throw out the plastic container?) I said whats the one the front..her responce..."not veal"... In any case being made to feel like I wasted their time, I took my mystery meat home...to find it was green....Yep right in the garbage...along w everything else I bought there. Wont be back

Yelp
I've been coming to Northside Bakery since 2009 and I have to say, this place is as good as it gets! My boyfriend works a few blocks away, so we come here for lunch and dinner often, I'd say once a week...and I love this place. The women who work behind the counter are friendly, and quick, and offer service in both Polish and English (I speak only English)...from the four daily soups (I recommend the red borscht or the white vegetable) to the delicious pierogies (vegetarian with potato or meat-filled) to the amazing selection of by-the-pound sides, this place will fill you up for such a perfect price, that its a wonder you can always find a place to sit inside. We usually go with the stuffed cabbage, cheese pierogies, red beet salad, saurkraut, roasted potatoes, and blintzes for dessert, all of which are stand out (and this coming from a gal who grew up with two Polish grandparents). They also have great pastries and cakes, being that they are the Northside bakery...I recommend the vanilla wafer cookies and the homemade brown bread. Just for an example of how crazy inexpensive this place is: Tonight, we shared a large piece of stuffed cabbage with all the aforementioned fixings (4 pierogies, 2 kinds of salad, and 5 potatoes), plus two glasses of fruit juice (SO REFRESHING!), and two blintzes and a bag of cookies to take home...all for $15. So if you're in Greenpoint, make yourself happy, go to Northside Bakery.

Yelp
Confused! I ordered food from GrubHub... it got here in a timely manner but the food was cold... I tried heating it up but it just wasn't very good. I also ordered 4 cream Rolls as it was something I used to get as a kid, but instead I got a cake with Jello in it? I haven't tried it yet and have been looking online to see if I can find it on the menu but it isn't there! The only reason I ordered from here is because of the cream roll.. very disappointed!

Jason D.

Yelp
Some great bread and some nice prices, plus pirogis! They have some really great breads here, the sourdough rye is excellent, as well as some other great baked goods and prepared foods. Did I mention the sourdough rye? It is amazing and great to take home so you can do a grilled cheese.

Louis S.

Yelp
Love the food and next to where I live love the soups and cakes love polish food. Will be back highly recommendable

John S.

Yelp
My favorite place so far! The food is amazing, bred is always fresh! 10 of 10! Uber cheap and tasty. Pretty polish girls are working here :)) To the girl who posted review saying - "you're in America, learn the service" - Voting for Trump? P.S. "No smile on faces", oh come one ppl, stop being so sensitive

Wade W.

Yelp
Absolutely great food . Very clean and super nice staff .. food is authentic and tasty . This is the real deal . Not a hipster style rip off restaurant. Large portions and ice cold cokes :.) thanks ladies for my new dinner spot

Christina H.

Yelp
Food is fresh and consistent! I look forward to some of my favorite dishes weekly. Thanks!

Peter P.

Yelp
The stuffed cabbage was tasty, but the pierogies were cold and when I asked for sautéed onions, the girl pointed to a small scrap of onion and said, "you have onion." Another woman behind the counter was pretty rude as well. Maybe you need to be Polish

Nora A.

Yelp
I used to love them and their bread! Prices were very fair also. Now the quality went down on some bread products, like walnut-raisin bread for example. You can hardly find any walnuts and not as much raisins either. I hope they read this review and follow up before seeing quality slipping little by little like it happens to so many places!

Christian P.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the delicious Potato & cheese pierogi and the tasty Paczki. I also tried the salmon with spinach which was very good . I prefer ordering on Grubhub

Brooklyn L.

Yelp
Food is good and the breads are great! Not super friendly, but that's not why I come here. I come for the rye bread and poppyseed pastries, they are excellent.

Meaghan L.

Yelp
Amazing bread loaves and whole grain bread sticks. I highly recommend this bakery if you're visiting, local, or need to stock up and fresh bread.

Katia L.

Yelp
The worst service. I totally understand that they are Polish and it is part of the culture not to be friendly, but come on! You are in the US now learn customer service! I went there many times because sometimes I like their soups and they very close to where I live and work, and they just simply ignore you, you can stand there and wait and they just won't look at your and they can do other things and ignore you. Then they would never smile and serve this dish to you as if you owe them. I could stand all that, but the ignoring part totally upsets me..

Alex D.

Yelp
Not only the best Polish place, but one the most delicious places I have ever gotten food from ever. I could say this based on the beets and mashed potatoes alone--two things I always include in my order no matter what--but of course every items have been so satisfying to eat. On Sunday my friend and I arrived towards the end of the day. we got schnitzel, chicken and green bean "rolls", pork with pine apple, rice, and the two previously mentioned standards I wish for everyday. On top of that, we were offered some fish with a tomato-based sauce which I very happily accepted. I still don't know what kind of fish/dish it was, but it was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was beautiful and savory and wonderful. And still, literally at closing time on a Sunday, the food was fresh and the two people working were kind and generous. You must eat here. I can't even mention the bakery because my hand is cramping and trying to think of more "delicious/amazing/perfect/etc" adjectives is difficult. This is the reason I wish I lived in bk.

Allison B.

Yelp
I had the cheese blintzes, which were amazing. The service was very good - they spoke both English and Polish fluently and very patiently explained the different Polish foods to me. All for a fair price and a nice atmosphere. Definitely coming back!

Marcus W.

Yelp
Great coffee for $0.90 a cup, delicious baked goods, excellent bread and amazing lunch. A couple of pirogi, potatoe pancakes, stuffed cabbage, and a coffee for less than $6! You'll walk away from this place with a full stomach, a smile on your face and lots of money still in your wallet. A real gem.

Emily L.

Yelp
I love this place. I work from home and, honestly, it's a struggle to not eat lunch here every day. I have a crippling weakness for steam table anything, so Northside really hits the spot. I've never REALLY cared for Polish food, but you know, being a Greenpoint resident who makes next to no money, it's time to get with it. From the steam table I've had: the pork cutlet and chicken cutlet (both like schnitzel); cheese, meat, and saurkraut/mushroom pierogies; roasted chicken; roasted potatoes; gravy; green beans; others I can't remember. I've also had their coleslaw and red cabbage. I have to say, it's all pretty spectacular for a place that gives you a quarter super-moist roast chicken and two giant ice cream scoops of mashed potatoes with gravy for $5. Also, there is free sliced bread from their bakery to go with your meal if you decide to eat in. And you should. Lots of people from surrounding businesses come to eat here on their lunch break. I've also gotten the seven grain bread and the healthy seeded bread and both are outrageously good. They also have under-$1 coffee and their sweet baked goods look great, and are always out by the end of the day. Wouldn't be surprised if they supplied most of the delis in the area with their poppy seed rolls and doughnuts. Despite having tried a lot of the other things, I'll probably never stray from my standard order of pork schnitzel with gravy and a side of three pierogies. If you get the cutlet when they've just brought it out, the crust shatters. Shatters. If you like good, fast, salty, abundant comfort food, just add this place to your neighborhood repertoire. It's not gourmet but, um, whatever.

James I.

Yelp
Neighborhood bakery full of great breads and a solid polish food line that's always serving. They also have some decent desserts and pastries that include cheesecakes and cakes.

Daniel F.

Yelp
This bakery is marvelous. My family and I ate their food and drank their coffee practically every morning for a week and a half while on vacation in NYC. Their coffee is really good. Their pastries vary from standard pastries (eclaires, puff pastries) to Polish delicacies. The staff is not ebulliently friendly, but that might be due to a darker Polish disposition (something that I'm either not that familiar with or simply don't understand). If you speak Polish, they do, too, so enjoy!

Karin B.

Yelp
I received a friendly note from the owner of Northside Bakery thanking me for my review and mentioning that she'd hoped I've seen an improvement in the service. I have to say that indeed I have and so I'm adding a star.

maria b.

Yelp
I love this place, love the bread, the coffee and the eggs. Have recommended it to many people and we all feel the same way, if the staff was friendlier, it would be much more appealing. Sometimes I feel that they are bothered by the fact I am there, they can be super friendly with their fellow Polish men, but not with me or my friends. The owners need to talk to the ladies at busy bee across the street! the friendliest people in the neighborhood, who will always have my business.

Steve L.

Yelp
Excellent Easter mazurek (5 stars), strangely dry Easter babka (2 stars). Would definitely come back to try other items though, to be fair.

Krolowa J.

Yelp
I am Polish and I belive it is a great place to get a polish style meal for a good prize. It is very convinient that the food is per pound so you can deside how big the portion you need. Girls are v. nice especially the short, skinny one with black hair. I havent tried bread and cakes though but they look good. My boyfriend who is not Polish loves the ruskie pierogi from there and the tripe soup. I strongly recomend

Frank R.

Yelp
Great food, usually good service. However, one server is always, always, always Rude and distracted and charges different prices for the same things. She's sulky, pays more attention to her cell-phone than to customers. If she's there in the morning and you aren't Polish, BEWARE!

Jen C.

Yelp
Love this place! Very friendly and great polish food! Their cakes are excellent, I used one for my boyfriends birthday and we all loved it!! I highly recommend coming here.

David P.

Yelp
I've eaten here 2-3 days/week for about 3 years. It's like having your own Polish grandma. All of the food is homemade, fresh, and hot. The staff are nice. Their fresh bread is excellent too. Can't say enough good things about this place!
