I went here on their grand opening day. I had heard great things about Bakey and their other locations, so I was really excited that a store was opening in Kendall. They had posted on social media that they were offering a boston cream babka for a limited time. This sounded extremely delicious and enticing, so I went early before work and to beat the grand opening rush to try the boston cream babka. Unfortunately, they said that flavor babka would not be available until 10am, which they thought they had communicated on their social media post. I went back to check and they had not said anything about 10am in the original post, nor did they update the announcement. I saw multiple people ask about the same thing and be turned away, so it did seem like the post was misleading.
Nevertheless, I was interested in trying their other treats. They provided a sample of their almond babka, which had lots of almond flavor and paste, but honestly seemed closer to a croissant than a babka. I bought a chocolate babka loaf, which was decent. It had a glossy sugary coating on top, which had a nice chew, but the loaf was overall lacking in chocolate. I also typically prefer a much denser babka than what Bakey has to offer (like Oneg Heimishe or even Green's). I also tried the cheese stick, which I really enjoyed. The cheddar flavor combined with the texture of the bread was really satisfying, I just wish it was a bit warmer.
In general, I would say that Bakey is serving different variations of croissant dough with interesting flavors. It wasn't the style of babka I was hoping for, but the items were tasty enough that I would go back. There are still some finishing touches being made - there was loud drilling in the building, they had no honey for my drink even though it was on the menu, and service was somehow attentive but inefficient - but I think time will help them adjust to this location and bring a more polished feel.
