My family and I were looking for a nice restaurant with outdoor dining today. Enter: Baku. It had considerably more seating than the other restaurants nearby and was above 3 stars (Signature was a 3-star rating so forget about it entirely). Still, not being 4 stars put me in a quandary, but I went with it, and I'm so glad we did!
Everything was delicious and super filling, from the bread to the salad to the entrees. We got the Prime Ribeye Steak, Branzino fish, and Saint Peter's fish. The former fish is "oiled," while the latter is grilled, but the difference upon serving is minuscule. The fish come with a dip that has an underlying mustard taste, but I'm not sure what else it's made of.
As for my steak, wow, the portion size was huge!!! I ended up giving a third of it to the rest of my family members. There are also potato wedges, pepper slices, onion bits and even pineapple circles on the side, though some are quite charred.
For dessert, the options are limited to Napoleon or French Napoleon (Napoleon with fruit haha). We got tea and jellies alongside it. Tea is good for balancing the sweetness of the Napoleon dessert, but I just ate the sour raspberries and strawberries to counter that.
Why the star off? The service overall was decent actually. The waiter promptly gave us our single-use menus, answered questions we have, took away our finished appetizer plate, and checked up on us a couple of times. What we didn't like was that halfway through our meal, we noticed many of the waiters were no longer wearing their masks properly. Some simply left their masks on their chin, one didn't have one at all, and a couple others had their noses exposed from their mask. Maybe it's because they forgot to put it back on amidst the frenetic nature of being a server, or they wanted to appear more personable? Personally, we think safety is more important and are fine if the hospitality aspect takes a small nosedive.
Additionally, many patrons were not wearing masks, meaning they're not required to. I know restaurants probably just want the business, but seriously, people should be required to. There was no sanitizer provided--at least on the outside of the restaurant--luckily, we brought our own.
