"Balady is very good at putting or wrapping things in bread. Whether it’s aubergine and egg (the sabich), cauliflower shawarma, or their incredible falafel, everything at this popular casual Temple Fortune spot is offered with a huge choice of salads, pickles, hummus, red pepper and jalapeño schug, as well as tahini and amba. The result is a full-on assault of flavour. Sweet mango mingling with chickpea, red cabbage with pickled cucumber and sesame, the whole thing just working. We go for the falafel in pita (baked at local spot Taboon), but you should know that everything here is pretty great, notably their hand made chips, and the cauliflower starter. You should also know that getting a merguez wrapped in a huge, pillowy laffa from their next-door sister restaurant Alaesh is always a good idea. photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli photo credit: Giulia Verdinelli" - Oliver Feldman

"Years ago, before Leather Lane became a carnival for foodies and prosecco lovers, it was a standard street market. Your options for food were limited but satisfactory. There was the caf-cum-sandwich bar, a couple of fruit and veg men, Greggs, the chippy next door, and one of those amazing stalls where everything is past the sell-by-date and a basket full of chopped tomatoes, Digestives and stock cubes cost a few quid. Now it’s different. There’s Taiwanese and 20-person strong queues, kebabs and questionable combinations. A hoi sin duck burrito? Hmmm. Anyway, if that’s not your thing, then perhaps an old classic in the shape of Balady is. The Israeli institution’s second location is cannily placed close to Hatton Garden, and a load of other less celebrated falafel joints. The quality is pretty much the same here as it is in Temple Fortune, and that’s very much a good thing. Their falafel: crisp and fresh out the fryer, is fluffy inside, steaming with green herbiness and spices, all of which cry out for the combination of fruity amba, punchy zhug and cooling tahini that lines their soft pitas. Their other stuff, like hand cut chips and sabich, is also on the menu. Though sitting inside is not. This is a grab-and-go affair, or a-lean on-the-side-counter one if you fancy sticking around. Either way, it's likely you'll be back for more soon enough." - Jake Missing

Amazing place to do qurbani on Eid. Plenty of animals. They have animals all year round as well. Not sure about the negative reviews but I had a great experience. Do not expect quick service on Eid though, they have hundreds of customers on day 1 and they were trying everything possible to accommodate everyone. Prices are very reasonable as well. Definitely going there again. Thanks for the great service.

I wish that Google has a solution for those haters who are trying to post lies about other businesses. Balady farm has been in business for more than 13 years and all the customers know the owner personally. The farm is very clean and open all around the year for everyone to enjoy their day. The owner and staff are welcoming, professional and kind. All the animals are grass fed for the best tasty meat that no one can compete for the quality and prices. Thank you Ali for all your great work and giving back to the community!

Thank you Ali for everything. Me and a few brothers split a cow. Ali was very good at communication and prices were excellent. In reading through some of the negative comments I was shocked. It is apparent someone has an ax to grind. Ali and his staff were very respectful and helpful. They treated us like family and even gave us gifts. I have been back to the farm and Ali even gave my oldest boy a job helping around the farm. Anyone who speakers bad about this farm must have a personal grudge. Yes on Eid you have a long wait time that’s the norm. That’s any halal farm on eid. I have went to other farms and had to come back the next day to get my meat. That’s the normal occurrence on Eid. If someone took your animal that’s is sad but often a common mistake when you have hundreds of animals. It has happened to me in a couple farms even happened to me in Egypt. It’s a common mistake. It’s not worth slandering the owner and farm. The one thing I can almost guarantee if there was a mistake made Ali did everything he could to make it up to you so there was no need to come on here and try to destroy your brothers business. Thank you for providing the area with a great service and need Ali.

The first time I went there and Ali was really nice and good at cutting. He was friendly and got whatever we wanted. The second time I went there were 2 employers that had attitude and couldn’t understand them. They said they couldn’t cut for me. I would only come here if Ali is there. Otherwise please don’t come here.
