Balance Taproom - Review - Piccadilly - Manchester - The Infatuation
"Manchester, like any other city with a self-respecting tiny beanie contingent, has had a craft beer revival in the past decade. Pomona Island is our pick in Greater Manchester, but for a taproom in the city centre, it’s hard to beat Balance. Unlike other spots in the “Beermuda Triangle” industrial estate that made their name in hazy IPAs, it specialises in tart, lively sours fermented with local yeast. Balance, in the old railway arches behind Piccadilly station, also stands apart for feeling downright cosy, with Persian rugs over polished concrete, an electric fireplace, lots of John Coltrane playing, and rarely a crowd compared to the cacophonous taprooms down the road. Choose a bottle, or, better yet, from a rotating list of draught beers. Recent favourites include the raspberry-infused Ripple, so vibrant you can almost feel the berry’s fuzz, and the peaty Chisel cider, aged in old whisky barrels.
