The 31 Best Restaurants in Kolkata (Calcutta), India | Eater

"With multiple outlets in the city, this dessert giant has been a pioneer in giving Bengali mishti (sweets) a contemporary makeover. The chain excels at fusion mishti, which combine traditional Bengali flavors with elements of European desserts. The most famous creation is the house take on roshogolla: The spongy cheese balls are usually boiled in syrup, but here they’re doused in thick, sweetened milk, topped with condensed milk, and baked in foil boxes until a delicious golden brown crust forms. There are other innovative offerings too, like seasonal mango lava sandesh, which imitate a lava cake, or sitaphal souffle that consists of a layer of grainy sandesh studded with custard apples and topped with a layer of airy custard apple mousse." - Priyadarshini Chatterjee

A local’s guide to eating in Kolkata, India - SilverKris

"A venerable sweet shop founded in 1885 that draws daily queues—especially around 4pm—for an array of traditional Bengali confections, including roshogolla (cottage cheese dumplings in sugar syrup), mishti doi (jaggery-sweetened yogurt), nalen gur sandesh (jaggery and cottage cheese sweets) and baked mihidana; the textures and flavors are richer and more luxurious than descriptions can convey." - SilverKris

Balaram Mullick & Radharaman Mullick - SilverKris

"At its flagship Bhawanipore outlet dating back to the late 1800s, this celebrated confectioner is a must-stop for Kolkata visitors seeking traditional Bengali sweets. Classics such as nolen gur (a jaggery made from non-centrifugal cane sugar), creamy sandesh, mishti doi (sweetened curd), and soft rosogolla soaked in syrup are central offerings, while contemporary creations like butterscotch sandesh and mango mishti doi showcase playful innovation alongside time-honored recipes." - SilverKris

We visited Balaram Mullick & Radharaman Mullick at Bhawanipore on 05/11/2025 as a family of five and this stop easily became one of the most unforgettable culinary highlights of our Kolkata trip. The moment we stepped inside, the place greeted us with its signature aroma of fresh Bengali sweets, warm, comforting and irresistible. The counters were beautifully arranged and every item looked crafted with care and tradition. We tried a variety of classics and modern favourites, and every single item was absolutely top-notch: 🍮 Baked Rosogolla – This was the star of the visit. Soft, delicate and infused with a beautiful caramelised flavour. The texture was heavenly, almost melting on the tongue. Easily one of the best versions we’ve ever tasted. 🥭 Mango Doi – Smooth, creamy, perfectly balanced with natural mango sweetness. Not overly sugary, just pure, rich flavour. This is a dessert you could keep eating endlessly. 🥤 Aam Pora Sherbat – Refreshing and delicious! Smoky mango with the right amount of tanginess. It felt like the perfect palate cleanser in between the sweets. ⚪ White Rosogolla – A true classic done right. Soft, juicy, and spongy with the perfect sugar syrup. Simple, elegant, and proof that they excel not just in innovative items but also in the traditional favourites. What made the experience even better was the overall atmosphere clean counters, well-organised displays and staff who were patient and helpful. Even though the shop was bustling, they took the time to guide us and pack everything neatly for takeaway. As a family travelling from Bengaluru, this visit was more than just a sweet stop it was a beautiful taste of Kolkata’s heritage and craftsmanship. Every bite reflected tradition, quality and the passion that this legendary brand is known for. We left with full bags, happy hearts and a promise to return on our next trip. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Bhawanipore, this place is a must-visit for every sweet lover!

I suggest sweet lovers across world must visit this place once. Awesome collection with unique flavors, and it shows theirs art, experiments, research with sweet to have such diverse categories. Sweets are not too sweet, got alot of sweets while traveling to Bangalore and people love it. Their cake Namkeens bhujiya gathiya and other snacks items are also very good. Price is bit high , mostly to meet quality.

I watched reels and went here, but the reels didn't do justice to this place. Heaven for misti lovers... The place is right nearby Netaji Bhavan metro. The interiors looks clean, hygienic and royal. The best part is you get a QR code for each sweet you eat and no need to stand in line to bill every dish you want to try. In the end you give the QR to billing counter and they Calculate everything together. Some of the most unique and best sweets of Whole India. A must visit! They also have a separate pure veg snacks counter, cakes and other international desserts
