Just got back from a lovely show that was part of the Nuits d'Afrique festival this year, and I would be quite tempted to go back soon. This is a wonderfully intimate venue that brings in some pretty good acts from the World Music scene - a quick look over their program shows mostly a selection of up-and-comers from around the world, with a focus on Africa and the Caribbean.
I'm not sure if they are also a regular bar when a show is not going on, or if it's only a venue, but it seems like a pretty fun place to grab a drink, with ample seating space that is all pretty cozy. They also have dance nights on Fridays/Saturdays with "musique tropicale du monde entier". That is not really my fave (I am cursed with a post-1970 reggae intolerance, I know...it's a serious illness that I have tried to cure...) but I bet it would still be a ton of fun. There is no cover charge listed for the dance nights so it's absolutely worth a shot if free.
I have to admit, the set-up is a wee bit awkward for a show, with the open dancing space also serving as the main thoroughfare, and though it's small, I never quite figured out where the women's restroom was... Also, I had a cranberry juice that was around $4.50, which to me seems a bit steep for juice...but I think the alcohol prices are fairly standard. They do have some Caribbean themed drinks and also bissap on the menu (yes!) but otherwise pretty standard. The service was good too.
