We visited the restaurant on Sunday during the Catrina parade. Outside, it was very busy, but the restaurant was only accepting guests with reservations, which we had. Our reservation was for 8:30 pm, but we were not seated until 9 pm.
Our table was nicely located near el Zócalo , which allowed us to stand and watch more of the parade and festivities comfortably. The restaurant offers both a tasting menu and a regular 4-course menu, where you can choose from four options per course. There were six of us; half chose the tasting menu, and half the regular menu. The staff strongly suggested everyone try the tasting menu because it takes longer to prepare than the regular menu. Waiting was no problem as we enjoyed our drinks.
When ordering, I mentioned to our waitress that some of us had allergies. She said she would come back but never followed up. My sister-in-law then informed a different waiter.
Unfortunately, when food started arriving, several of the tasting menu dishes contained ingredients that triggered allergies for three of our group.
The regular menu dishes started well: the first and second courses were very good. However, the main courses were cold. The beef was cold, the asparagus looked like it had been quickly dipped in water and served without seasoning, and the mashed potatoes were also cold. One of the other mains was similarly cold. We sent the dishes back, but when they returned, only the plate was warm; the food remained cold. The waitress handled this with an unpleasant attitude.
We never got a chance to order more drinks as the waitress never checked back. After the disappointing food, we decided not to spend more. We later tried to order truffle fries, but the kitchen had already closed.
Towards the end, we felt rushed to leave since the restaurant was closing at 10 pm. Given the tasting menu takes time, seating guests at 8:30 pm felt unreasonable, especially since we were still receiving tasting menu items well after closing, with dessert arriving after 11:30 pm.
On the positive side, the restaurant is beautiful, with nice music and great views creating a lovely atmosphere. Our waiter, Miguel, was excellent in explaining the tasting menu dishes clearly and thoroughly in English. We've been to many tasting menu restaurants, and usually, if someone has an allergy, they accommodate by changing the dish. We hope this will improve here as well.
Before leaving, we wanted to speak with the manager to share our experience, but he had already left. We spoke with the captain instead. We didn't want a refund; we just hoped they would be aware of where the experience fell short so they can make improvements.
