"Bali Hai has been feeding seafood lovers with the freshest critters and best quality fish for over ten years. Pick your own catch at the live fish tank by the entrance. Specify the way you want them cooked – in Teochew, Nyonya or even Thai style. The must-try “cereal prawns” are tossed in butter and milky oat powder that forms a crispy crust. Stir-fried crab with salted egg yolks that strikes a balance between umami and saltiness is not to be missed." - Michelin Inspector

Very fresh seafood that’s cooked to perfection. The service is very attentive, they will change your plate after every dish you eat. The cook on everything was very delicious, the white pepper crab was definitely a favourite of mine as well as the razor clams. Overall an excellent experience :)

Had dinner here at this seafood restaurant on Gurney Drive. Nice relaxed atmosphere, very helpful staff and a pretty impressive live tank display where you choose what you want cooked. The large grilled prawns in garlic and butter was a good choice. The seafood fried rice was quite nice. Could not fault any dish, we also had the beans and honey chicken.

Went in for early dinner just as they opened with a party of 7 on a Friday., we were promptly seated and drink orders taken. Place has a large set of aquariums that are well maintained and clean looking. Variety of fishes, mollusks, and shellfish available. We ordered a couple different crab dishes, some mussels, calamari, wok fried pork, and some mixed vegetables. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was good. The prices are a little higher. The crab dishes I'd pass on next time, as the chili crab version is more tomato taste and the buttered egg was mostly mushy, and as expected the crabs were more work than worth it. The mussels, calamari and pork dishes were all good. Overm nice clean experience m, a bit pricey, but worth the splurge.

The food is excellent, with a great variety of live seafood to choose from. The staff are very friendly and don’t try to upsell, even if you come in a small group and order smaller portions. They’re attentive and often come by to change your plates and make sure everything’s perfect. Prices are reasonable, not very cheap, but not too expensive either. They also have their own parking area, so you don’t have to park by the roadside, convenient 👍🏻

This is a one of the restaurants in Penang which serve live seafood. The live seafood (including fishes, mantis prawns, lobsters, clams, etc) are nicely displayed in glass tanks which you can see the seafood are very fresh and clean. The seating hall is not air-conditioned but provided with cooling fans. There are some air conditioned rooms which have a minimum charge for spending. The cooking style is more close to the HK or Guangdong ways, which is good for live seafood. We ordered the wild Marble Goby fish, Green Lobster, Mantis prawns, big blood clams (from Sabah) and a vegetable and fired noodles. The steamed fish was very good. The lobster was slightly overcooked, the Mantis prawns were good. The big blood clams were very fresh and good. No foul muddy smell. The fired vegetable and noodles were good. Staff are friendly and foods were served quickly. Overall, it is a good seafood restaurant in town.

Good experience, atmosphere and attentive staff eating here on a weekday night. Family enjoyed the food a lot. Compared to (SG) type of pricing, it was rather worth it . Recommended for groups who are in the area.

This place is 8 min car ride from our hotel but was our last option since we arrived when Malaysian Chinese are celebrating a 9 day festival and happened to have a lot of seafoods place that are run by Chinese taoist believer to be closed so the nice Grab driver took us to this street were they had a lot of seafood restaurant, the place is open with lots of seafoods to pick, crab, shrimp, lobster and many more, it is Michelin for 3 straight years including 2025. The food taste good and the service is fast as well and very attentive as there are servers standing and monitor.

Mass amount of fresh live seafood in tanks for customers to choose from. Upon arrival to Penang, we went to this restaurant because it was a 5 minute walk from our hotel. Food was amazingly fresh. Because there were only 2 of us, we couldn't order more. Dishes ordered were seasoned well, cooked just right and delicious.

Yelp
Typical seafood restaurant, the seafood tank water keeps it very clean, which means seafood is safe to eat, seafood is fresh, the cooking technique is just average, and the service is also just ok. The Prices are not worth and the problem is they don't tell you how much the total cost of what you pick. They didn't weigh the seafood in front of you to prove how much you need to pay. That means they can charge you whenever they say. (Beware)of how they charge you if you want to try this Michelin-star restaurant. They charge the garlic that we didn't ask for RM $24, The Menu also did not say they will charge garlic to cook . Live Mantis Prawn XL 0.250K 624 kg RM $314 .

Yelp
The food is not cheap but pretty good. We ordered 4 giant mantis shrimps, 8 big clams, two crabs, and a veggie. One thing I didn't like is the pos waiter w/ the ugly cheap tattoo on his forearm. I wasn't even don't ordering and he leaves. I asked him to come back and he gives us attitude. He was extremely rude. I was literally about to beat his @$$. Anyways. The total came out to around $245 usd

Yelp
This is a tourist hangout - let's just get it out there. It's cheesy in a touristy way - thatch roofs, big tanks of live seafood, open air to the ocean. We walked in at 7pm with 10 people and we got a table right away - there are tons of huge round tables! But it's done in a great way - it's lively, there are fans blowing, it feels like you are in the tropics. It's clean, and such fresh seafood would cost you a fortune in Singapore or HK or any major city in Asia. But at Bali Hai, we ordered live local snapper, live huge prawns, scallops, squid - we ate like kings and it cost $25 USD a person. Service is efficient, but not necessarily the friendliest (but few place in Asia excel in customer service, I'm used to it by now). It's right by the ocean, and so it's really nice to walk back to your apt/hotel after dinner.

Yelp
I've seen the concept at a few restaurants in southern China. The fresh seafood is laid out for perusal, and you can pick the ones you want along with cooking style. We came in a group of 7 for dinner and got 7 dishes. Fried rice, stir fried eggplant, sautéed okra were pretty normal. Fried calamari was a little lacking in flavor, as was the fried snapper. We also got the giant prawns and a lobster. I had not had good lobster previously but the lobster was cooked very well and was very tender. Overall good ambience and decoration but food was about average for the price. I think our bill came out to ~2400rm but we also had many drinks.

Yelp
Sunday night visit about 7.30pm with table for 10. Seated quickly with friendly staff. Great for bringing friends and family because of display tanks and presentation. We had fried rice (35) fried noodles (35) fried fresh water prawns (120) bean curd and shrimps in clay pot (45) whole fried fish (150) mixed vegetables (100), chili crab (240) , salted egg coated fried crab (240), fried squid (88), water (.80), wet naps (.40) and lots of left overs. They will sell you more than you need so slow down. Tipping is automatic 5 percent. Reasonable. Good food but priced above, for the a b market. I wouldn't order chili crab again as I've had better.
