This restaurant is at one of the corners in Old Sacramento. We ordered at the restaurant’s door and there are outdoor seating area on the patio. The service was good and pretty fast. - Indonesian fried chicken: good. The chicken meat was tender and we could taste the spices of marinade in the meat. I wish that they cooked the meat a bit longer so it had crispy skin. - Chicken satay: good. The meat was tender and flavorful. The peanut sauce was good but I wish that it had chunks of peanut. - Lontong sayur: very good. The soup was creamy and flavorful. - Es cendol: good and perfect for a hot day! The cendol was chewy and plenty. The coconut milk was perfectly sweetened.

Came here after visiting the train museum. Food was made to order and came quickly. We ordered the broccoli/chicken with rice plate, teriyaki chow mein, and the nasi goreng. Ingredients looked vibrant and tasted very fresh and light but full of flavor. My 4-year old devoured the teriyaki chow mein and I particularly enjoyed the dish as well.

I enjoyed the Sate Ayam and the lemper. The lemper had a wonderful subtle sweet combo of lemongrass and coconut milk. Not as tight as I’m accustomed to but the flavors are there. The pickled veggies served with the Sate Ayam and rice were crisp and sharply pickled, a nice accent to the milder chicken and rice. I enjoyed the saté and the fact that it wasn’t overcooked and dried out. Friendly and quick service. A wonderful “taste of home.” Enjoyed it and will be back!

Ordered 3 dishes (Satay, two stir fried rice/noodle). Was told the menu is outdated and price is not right. Ordered them but was asked for $71 dollar after tax for 3 dishes! Paid anyway. The portions are all medium to small. Have to buy family the fish and chips nearby instead. Taste was really nothing special and feel cheap (on plastic plates). Felt duped.

As an Indonesian, I approve the foods and sweet drinks. It reminds us of home. The lady is very kind too! If you want to get a taste of Indonesian food, please try this restaurant

Bali Kitchen in Old Sacramento is one of those restaurants that feels like a true hidden gem. Walking in, the space is small and unassuming, but once the food arrives, you know you’ve found something special. I ordered their mango salad, and I can honestly say it was one of the best salads I’ve ever had. The flavors were bold, refreshing, and beautifully balanced between sweet, tangy, and savory. For the main course, I went with a chicken satay dish, and the peanut sauce was rich, creamy, and packed with flavor. The skewers were cooked perfectly, tender and juicy with just the right amount of char. What stood out most to me was the authenticity - the dishes didn’t feel watered down or overly Americanized. It truly felt like Indonesian home cooking brought to life in Sacramento. The staff were kind and welcoming, making sure we had everything we needed. I left feeling like I’d discovered something rare and authentic that I’d want to share with friends. Bali Kitchen may be small, but it delivers big on flavor and authenticity.

The little old lady who runs this place is so sweet! She’s a great cook too!

Google
We enjoyed our meals. The chicken curry had very good flavor. Lamb satay sauce was good, with fennel/licorice hint. Also the lumpia hearty and filling. The price was high, but probably in line with other business in Old Town. The disposable plates and utensils was a nice touch of the home made nature of the restaurant. You want good food, not all the stuff surrounding that does not matter.

Yelp
I love this place. I've been coming here ever since it was called the Indo-cafe. A couple from Sweden of all places, was visiting, and I offered to take them out to dinner. They were staying at the Holiday Inn downtown, and I asked what kind of food they would like. His partner is from Indonesia, and said that it's hard to find good Indonesian food in Sweden. Well, this place is right around the corner. I told them, it's not fancy, but it is good. We meet up, and the lady that ran the restaurant was very friendly. She immediately started chatting. With the lady in my group in Indonesian. Right now, the indoor dining is closed, I don't know if it's going to be coming back, so we just had dinner on the patio. We shared an order of the lumpia, the chicken satay, and they had the Nasi goreng. (Fried Rice.). I ordered the. Cap cay, which was basically chicken with veggies. Everything was very good. The lumpia were delicious, and they were not greasy, On the satay, the chicken was delicious, and the peanut sauce was savory. They definitely liked their fried rice. My dish was also very flavorful, the veggies were just the right texture, and the chicken was very good. I asked my female guest if the food was authentic, and she said yes, it was very good. The price was reasonable for all that we got. I'm glad I was able to give my guests a little taste of Indonesia. I will be back again. Thank you.

Yelp
I've seen this place for years and I've finally tried it. And let me tell you they were so good! We ordered the lumpia, fried rice with pork, and fried noodles with chicken. Lumpia was delicious, hubby devoured them. The fried rice was so flavorful with a hint of sweetness. Came with a fried egg too on top. The fried rice I think was my favorite. Big chunks of bbq pork was a win! The lady at the door was sweet and gave her recommendations for my first time there. No seating inside, just outdoor seating. Not sure if that's a permanent thing or not. The place looked small with some small tables inside. However, there are plenty of tables outside or take your food to go. Will definitely order again from them.

Yelp
Homey authentic Indonesian food that I make sure to stop by for every time I'm in Sacramento! Love all their homestyle dishes that are full of flavors and fresh ingredients. Cap cay, satay, and nasi goreng are all exceptional and I can't resist coming back every time!

Yelp
Located right along the river in old sacramento, Bali kitchen is a very cute storefront with a handful of picnic tables adjacent. The service is amazing, and the proprietor is friendly and patiently explains all menu-related questions. The clientele is very diverse and eager to try new things. This afternoon I tried the nasi goreng, I'm Indonesian fried rice. Loaded down with pork, sporting an absolutely delightful crunchy texture throughout, this was both tasty, filling, and satisfying. Would eat again!

Yelp
My husband and I went on a date night and the weather was chilly so we decided to check this place out . It's a cute hole in the wall kind of restaurant and that's how you know the food is gonna be good! What caught our eye is that the menu was halal This was our first time trying Indonesian food . The owners were friendly and welcoming . The food came out delicious and we will definitely be back . The soup felt so good to the soup. It tasted like something our grandmother would make

Yelp
Haven't been back here in probably a decade but it's really great to see they are still open!! They had a different name before but the same humble delicious food. Think home cooked food, served straight to you in paper plates. They don't have indoor dining but you can grab a table outside, and most are covered in case it's either raining or too hot. The chicken noodle soup was so comforting on a cold evening! But my favorite was still the beef nasi goreng. Tender beef and just really solid flavor in the rice! Even my kids liked it. The ground beef pastry was okay but a bit dry for me, so I'd skip that, but the lumpia/egg rolls were nice and crispy. I hope this place survives another decade and more, and I will try to visit it even more now that I'm reminded how yummy it was!

Yelp
I visited yeeeears ago and remember enjoying the food. But on our recent trip, we weren't that impressed. It felt like this was closer to Chinese food (and I think the sign actually did say Chinese fusion), just a little better because it's not super saucy. We had the beef nasi goreng (fried rice) and it was fine, nothing special. Bakmi goreng (fried noodle) was more like a chow mein. The chicken in both the bakmi goreng and satay tasted pre-cooked and lacked flavor. The best thing we ate was the mango sticky rice... mMmMmm good! Anyway, it was ok, but not reminiscent to what we we experienced in Bali.

Yelp
This used to be Indo Cafe back in the days. I miss the old Indo Cafe with secret Indonesian menu with dishes like Nasi Kuning, Nasi Rames, etc. We ordered Nasi Goreng, Bakmi Goreng, and Indonesian Fried Chicken. Food was good. I just prefer the Bakmi Goreng I had before at Indo Cafe with rice noodles instead of the chow mein like noodles in this version. Didn't wait long for the food. I wish they open their inside dining again instead of the seating outside especially when it's cold outside.

Yelp
The tofu curry is good but criminally overpriced. The lunch item was $20. I get it it's Old Sacramento but it will probably keep me away from this place for a while. If you're hungry this would do the trick.

Yelp
Had the Nasi Goreng with Beef, Seafood Curry Soup, and Durian Sticky Rice. Food is not super authentic but tastes good. The Seafood Curry Soup has some noodles, not a lot as a meal. I agreed with other reviewers that it is not thick enough, a bit watery. We ordered the Durian Sticky Rice as dessert and thought it will be a few bucks - it is $21 when we see the receipt! Holy Moly! But I shall say it tastes pretty good, but I won't order again lol

Yelp
The first time I came here, I thought the food was okay only but decided to give them another shot. This time around, we got the their egg rolls and their beef rendang. The egg rolls were standard. Nothing amazing but not horrible either. The beef rendang was a big miss in my book. The portions were very small and the beef was very dry. I see they have really good reviews. Maybe I got the wrong items. I'll maybe try it one more time before writing them off.

Yelp
I came with expectations of a great hole in the wall place to eat and was met with disappointment. I ordered chicken satay. Something really hard to mess up. But I what I got was lukewarm precooked chicken pieces with mystery sauce. I would have expect peanut sauce to have some peanuts in it, but there were none. My friend ordered the chow mein. And what he got was subpar also with precooked chicken. I would not recommend this place. It's definitely overpriced for what you get.

Yelp
There are dishes here I love and cannot find anywhere else. The bumbu Bali, laksa soup, and Indo fried chicken are incredible. The lumpia, fried noodle, the fried fish, the curry, and everything is worth trying.

Yelp
I've loved Indonesian food since i traveled to Bali in 1992. This is a great little hole in the wall place with authentic Indonesian food. It's an order at the window, sit at picnic tables kind of place - which is fun since it's old sac/waterfront anyway. Don't listen to the negative reviews - it's authentic Indo - not some fancy restaurant, but more authentic.

Yelp
Can you open another store in fair oaks/Citrus Heights area? The cendol is so delicious!! Transported me home- Singapore! The mango and sticky rice ooh la la- I never had the coconut cream warm but it was one of your must order list. I did not try the food as I didn't walk far enough (bought some American food at the food of the building. Next time I want to try the laksa and everything else "home". Thank you for bringing in great food from that region. Go here next time your in old sac. Or just go there with family over the weekend, walk, shop at the trinket stores and eat at this wonderful Indonesian-Chinese place. Must try!

Yelp
Such yummy Indo-Chinese food in Old Sacramento! It seems like it's just the (lovely, super sweet) owner taking orders, making food, and serving customers: so definitely a lean team but she definitely makes it work -- and the food is so good !!! We had a little bit of everything, including dessert and drink, and everything we had was soooooo flavorful. I ordered for myself the Gado Gado and Mango Sticky Rice. The Gado Gado had an amazing sauce and the shrimp chips were delicious and so crispy -- refreshing on a hot day! The mango sticky rice was SOOOO GOOD: the mango was fresh and the rice was saturated with coconut milk :-) Cendol was also awesome, I loved the creamy flavor and the pandan jellies. Also try the indonesian chicken because the flavor cut deep into the chicken and it was sooo juicy. Recommend if you're in Sacramento -- in my opinion this is probably a top spot in the Old Sacramento area.

Yelp
My fiancé and I came to eat here again after just visiting Bali a month ago. We missed the Bali food and thought we should come and visit Tessa again. I felt like the food this time around was better than the last, which we came like 6-8 months ago, that time the food was a little more bland than this round. I genuinely Tessa found her joy in cooking again which I'm super happy for since she lost her husband a couple years ago. And I think based on the Yelp reviews the past 1-2 years it has been different than it was prior. Tessa has always took care of us and always appreciative whenever we drive up to see her and eat her food. I'm really glad to see Tessa back in her groove that I'm excited to continue eating her food.

Yelp
After passing by Bali Kitchen in Old Sac at least 100 times, I decided to try it while out walking the day after Christmas. It was a cold and foggy Monday - a great day to try one of their soups, I thought! So I ordered the Bumbu Bali, a chicken soup I'd never eaten before. Actually, I don't think I've EVER tried Indonesian food, let alone Balinese cuisine (except, maybe a handful of times, Indomie noodle plates from a food truck in Stockton - of which I can no longer recall the name). The Bumbu Bali was delicious, more like a hearty chicken stew, with tender chunks of chicken bathing in a delectable savory broth accompanied by bell pepper and onion. It came with a generous side of rice, which soaked up the broth perfectly. It was so filling that I couldn't even finish! I'll definitely be making a point to visit Bali Kitchen again soon, as their menu is fairly extensive for such an unassuming little spot on Front Street in Old Sac. Don't pass this place up if you're visiting the area and looking for a bite off the beaten path!

Yelp
As a loyal returning customer since the Indio Cafe/Bali Kitchen opened, I'm sorry to say after my experience today, I won't be returning until things have radically improved back to the original approach to quality, freshness, value and customer service. Obviously it has changed management again to owners that don't care about the dining experience that they offer. I was looking forward to treating my Mom on Mother's Day with a family favorite of Nasi Goreng and some satay. The chicken and pork were indeed precooked, frozen and reheated in the microwave as other reviews have indicated. The rice was clumpy, undercooked, poorly seasoned and tasteless. The vegetables were scant. They are also charging $1.50 for a small half full condiment cup of sambal for two orders and two appetizers. The service is awful and the prices are no longer congruent with the lack of quality being provided. I can't imagine with this decline, that they are gaining repeat customers or maintaining the loyal following of the local Dutch community as they have always had previously. It may be located in the local tourist area, but the quality, honor and integrity of the management and return business are what is important to maintain any restaurant as a going concern. I and my elderly Mother were very disappointed on this special day.

Yelp
Review for 2/5/23. My friends took me to old Sac for the first time and our first stop was Bali Kitchen! It definitely taste like the Indonesian food back in San Jose and couldn't have asked for anything better! My friends ordered the Balinese chicken with rice and the Cap Cay meanwhile I ordered the Indonesian fried chicken; and the sauce they gave with it completes the dish. The portion of what they gave was worth what we paid for. Neither one of us couldn't finish our food so we took it home. Looking back at the old photos, I wish we were able to dine inside, but it was closed off. It was cold and the only option was the outdoor seating. Btw, don't forget to order their Thai tea, it tastes authentic just like it would have back home!

Yelp
Hidden gem located in old Sacramento! This seems to be a mom and pop shop and we love supporting local businesses! There was a lot of options to choose from on the menu, so I was a bit overwhelmed on what to get!! This was my first time trying Indonesian food and I was not disappointed. I was a bit skeptical since they served their food in paper plates but the food was sooo good. Definitely worth a try when visiting sac :-) What I got: Baki goreng w/ chicken Cây cay rice plate Lumpia jakarta Everything was so good, and made fresh to order. There was so much flavor in the food and everything was cooked perfectly. Just fyi, there is not any indoor seating, only outdoor!!

Yelp
My partner is from Jakarta and she's been coming to this place for years, not just because it's hard to find Indonesian food in Sac, but mainly because the food is hella delicious! We've had most everything in the menu, but the main staples we typically get are the Ayam Goreng and Beef Rendang. We typically order to go since it's located in Old Town Sac, and with two people one person can jump out to get the food while the other circles around if there's no parking. The owners are some of the nicest people around, so highly recommend supporting this fantastic spot!

Yelp
Location in the old town of Sacramento, only outdoor tables available. The prices were reasonable, food and service were mediocre. I ordered: 3*Bakmi Goreng: fried noodles with vegetables, per normal. 3*Mango sticky rice: mango was ripe and very good. It was not that sweet.

Yelp
3.5 stars Bali Kitchen is one of the most unexpected eateries in Old Sacramento. Who would ever have expected to find an Indonesian restaurant in this touristy district with otherwise boring American cuisine options? Everything here was prepared to order and served on paper plates, and you could eat at one of the many wooden benches and tables on the porch outside. We started with the mango salad, a sweet combination of shredded mango, jicama, and carrots. The Gado Gado was an Indonesian salad made of cooked bean sprouts, potatoes, green beans, cucumbers, and tofu, all topped with a creamy, earthy peanut sauce and served with a boiled egg and shrimp chips. For our hot dishes, the Lamb Satay were grilled lamb skewers topped with a savory sauce and served with cucumbers, tomatoes, and steamed rice; and the Bakmi Goreng were noodles stir-fried with chicken and mixed vegetables including bok choy, cabbage, onion, celery, and carrots. The noodles went especially nicely with the super spicy ghost pepper hot sauce that came on the side. Overall, the food here was simple yet tasty but vastly overpriced, and the service was extremely slow. Still, this is probably one of the more interesting food options in touristy Old Sacramento!

Yelp
Very few Indonesian restaurants around. Not sure it's still open but if ur is, their Nasigoreng & Satay with peanut sauce is a treat!

Yelp
Highly excited to visit. If you are familiar with authentic Indonesian food, avoid at all costs. Chicken was bland and dry. Noodle dish lacked spice and nonetheless flavorless. A few bites and in the garbage. So disappointed. A hard no go. EG Eats

Yelp
Love this little gem in old sac! It's a cute little hole in the wall (literally) and has out fire seating only but I typically just get mine to go since I live so close. Service has always been the same nice lady. She's probably the owner and all in one service and chef. The lumpia is a must! I get it each time as well as a Thai tea. I've had their curry fried rice and it was delicious. Today I got the wonton soup due to the weather being rainy and was just what I was craving. It's light but flavorful and the veggies amd wontons are cooked perfectly. Definitely my new favorite wonton soup for sure!

Yelp
Long story short, we stopped by here despite seeing the less than stellar reviews. I'm usually leery of eating near tourist areas and an Indonesian restaurant with a very generic name at Old Sac Waterfront already me hesitant without taking into account any reviews. We came here on a weekend and there was a good handful of people dining at the place. It's pretty casual - outdoor bench seating only and you walk up to the "counter" (it's really the door to the shop with a table set up) to order. It was busy, but not crazy busy, but we were told by woman there (possibly the owner), that there would be a 20 to 25 minute wait just to place our order. Rather unusual and I could not tell if they were short on staff or if she was flying solo, but I think she disappeared into the kitchen to cook. We opted to wait and got our orders in some time later. The wait for the food itself wasn't terrible, but I'm estimating it was about 40 to 45 minutes total from when we first wanted to order to getting our food. For some context, we had folks from Indonesia in our group (plus non-Indonesians) and we all ordered different entrees ranging from fried rice, noodles, and curry. All of us weren't impressed by the food for various reasons. I had the kwetiau (kind of like chow fun) with beef. It was very average, but there was a lot of vegetables (ie cabbage) piled on to where I almost felt like I was eating salad at times. There wasn't a ton of noodle which is my favorite part. My only positive takeaway is that it tasted really healthy, but I was still hungry afterwards as it wasn't a very satisfying meal. In collecting feedback from the others and my own observation: The Thai curry was bland, watery, and also had a lot of filler vegetables piled in. Another noodle dish (this is normally dry and stir fried like a chow mein) was very wet like the noodles were only boiled and not fully drained before serving. The fried rice was OK, but there was some negative feedback which I can't recall - it was possibly a tad too salty. Adding fuel to the meh experience is that I was overcharged. I could not see the itemized charges and I missed/skipped the option on the machine to get a receipt. I was wondering how 2 dishes came up to roughly $40 before tip, but soon got the automated email receipt to check. The Thai Curry was listed as $15, but we were charged $17. The beef kwetiau had no price posted, so I won't say I was overcharged, but that thing cost $20. It didn't seem to be any more special than other plates which mostly had menu prices of $15/$16. How was this twenty bucks? I later regretted adding a tip for a self service restaurant that doesn't have their prices correct and I felt a little taken advantage of for the items that didn't have a price listed. My fault for not confirming. I also felt the dishes were loaded with cheap veggies like cabbage to make the portion appear decent - all of this just made the experience distasteful, no pun intended. If you want a bottled water (might have been Costco Kirkland), that's $3. While I love supporting mom and pop shops, this was a disappointing experience. I won't be back for overpriced/overcharged and mediocre Indonesian fusion food served on a Dixie plate.

Yelp
Had a hankering for some Indonesian cuisine and came upon Bali Kitchen. I ordered the Indonesian Fried Chicken and the Beef Rendang. Both dishes were incredibly flavorful and well executed! The sambal was so fresh, it had to be made in house. Amazing food!! Side note: I indicated that I had a peanut allergy and someone was thoughtful to alert me to the use of candle nut (commonly used in authentic Indonesian cooking) by including a handwritten note with my delivery order!! Thank you!!

Yelp
This is very much a mom and pop kind of restaurant in old sac. I ordered the nasi goreng and it's served on a paper plate. The dish itself was okay but nothing special in my opinion. Has a fried egg, anchovies topped and celery, carrot, and onion. I did enjoy the dessert/drink a lot! It was called cendol and it was a very creamy drink with jellies.

Yelp
Bomb stir-fry noodle dishes here! The bakmi goreng dish was terrific! Chewy egg noodles, tossed together with a lavish amount of bite sized juicy chicken pieces. Beef and pork are also available options with this dish. Also had in it bok choy and cabbage. Sprinkled on top were fried yellow onions and fresh green onions. Seasoning had mellow but good flavor to it. Dish had a great combination of textures and highly addictive. The shrimp kwetiau goreng is with flat rice noodles, tossed with large juicy shrimp. They don't skip on the meat here. Seasoning, veggie ingredients and flavor profile seems to be same between both dishes. I felt the rice noodle could have been more charred to give it a little more oomph! Nevertheless, still an excellent dish! The menu offers a good variety of savory and sweet, and drinks with optional boba. There's only one person working here on a Thursday late afternoon, who seems to be the owner. Very friendly lady. She took our order, we paid and she went to the back to cook. As other customers walked up, they were wondering when she would be back. I would compare this to a one man operating food stand, except she has a store front. No entry. The store itself is her storage and kitchen, so order at the door counter, and there's outdoor informal seating. Restrooms are right across the restaurant. Looking forward to being back here.

Yelp
Home made food and feels authentic, although a bit too salty for me. However, it could be that I need more tastings and better understanding of Balinese food.

Yelp
Y'all need to bring Bakso in your menu I mean it's spicy and sweet at the same time Nothing can beat it

Yelp
Amazing food! Friendly patron. We are Dutch and we miss Indonesian food. The Indonesian restaurant in San Francisco closed during the pandemic. We are so happy to have found this jewel! Real Indonesian food. We had chicken satay - yummmm! I loved the lemon grass chicken and hubby was enjoying his nasi goreng with pork (fried rice) and gado gado (cooked veggies with peanut sauce)! Looking forward to coming here again Please wait patiently for your food as this is a family business and the cook is also the waitress and the one taking orders and the cashier and the shopper

Yelp
I had been craving fried rice specifically from Bali Kitchen for a while, and took advantage of the fact that I was in Old Sac this weekend to order some. I was trying to plan ahead by calling to place an order over the phone, but it took me three tries to finally get through to someone. After placing my order, I was told it would be approximately a 25 minute wait. After the 25 minutes, I headed over to Bali Kitchen and waited at the door/window. It was here that I encountered my biggest frustration. I'm not sure if the lady in front of me was a customer and/or a friend, but she was having a friendly conversation with the employee at the counter for a solid 10 minutes while I waited behind her. I tried multiple times to make eye contact with the employee and wave to get some acknowledgement. Finally, the employee interrupted her friend/customer to ask if I wanted to place an order. I let her know that I was here to pick up my phone order, and she immediately knew that it was the fried rice. She swapped places with a younger guy, who handed me my order and processed the payment. I was a little surprised at the lightness of the box when it was handed to me; the portion is definitely on the smaller side considering the price ($12). The flavors were good, but unfortunately with the price to portion ratio and the poor customer service, I was pretty disappointed with this visit. Maybe I remembered Bali Kitchen too fondly since I was last here!

Yelp
Cruising around Old Sac and saw this in their little food area. Having been to Bali and loving their cuisine, just had to check it out. The verdict, cheap paper plates and styrofoam bowls aside, the food is legit! Great flavor, piping hot, and friendly people. What more could you want? Laksa (5): This was one of my favorite dishes in Bali. They captured the creaminess and spice pretty well. The chicken they used could have been a little more tender, but overall, a solid attempt that I don't think you'll find anywhere else locally. Nasi Goreng (5): Another fantastic dish straight from the motherland. I seriously ate this like everyday in Bali and this was pretty decent as well. Great flavor and the egg was just the icing on the cake. Lumpia (5): Can't go wrong with these. Not sure how 'balinese' these are, but they were tasty. Crispy, not soggy. Good size. Honestly I wasn't expecting much when I received the food, but I was pleasantly surprised. Bali had some of my favorite food and this place captured it nicely. Have I had better? Sure, but I doubt you'll find better balinese in the area. Good stuff!

Yelp
7/30/2020: Okay, okay~Insistent Tiana wanted taking photos of Sacramento's Chinatown which in fact, is literally NOT A TYPICAL CHINATOWN and a waste of my time discovering Chinatown's ONLY restaurant was closed due to COVID19! Welp~Tiana wanted to eat so, I drove to Old Town Sacramento just a stone's throw away from Sacramento's Chinatown District. I drove by several restaurants via the river front which were surprisingly open seating customers inside and outside dining permitted! Whoa~REALLY???? Okay~So-do you want to eat there or there or there, Tiana? Tiana explores the restaurants and decides she wants to eat at Bali's Kitchen. Okay-Fine~Let's eat here. I informed Tiana the owner is originally from Bali which Tiana immediately scoffed stating that Bali's Kitchen was just a gimmicky name. REALLY? As IF you know EVERYTHING, Tiana! We order our meals from a beautifully gracious, warm, friendly female: The female informed Tiana our meals will take about twenty to thirty minutes because she is cooking our meals from scratch and everything was freshly caught. Tiana questioned the female where she learned how to cook-the female replied, "I was born in Bali and I'm THE OWNER OF BALI's KITCHEN!" WELP~I guess that undoubtably shut Tiana about the gimmicky restaurant name: Typical BH personality! I just began glaring at Tiana while Tiana began ignoring me and refrained looking at me directly. So lovely . . . LOL! BTW: The owner's Bali Cuisine is off da hook and absolutely delicious, Bay-Bee! I'll be returning eating at Bali's Kitchen soon!

Yelp
My Oma and OPA raised me on Dutch/Indonesian food ever since I was little and this is the only Indonesian place near me that I can get food from . It's so good and just reminds me of my grandparents every time I go . I just wish it was closer to me

Yelp
Almost 10 weeks into shelter in place, we get even more interested in changing up the regular routine and looking for some new food to try. Bali Kitchen satisfied that need tonight! They do a good job on DoorDash with descriptions and photos, which is helpful for a cuisine I don't know very well. My partner and I split a few items: I didn't think the fried wontons were amazing, but I'd definitely recommend the Martabek Telor as an appetizer for its texture and flavor. As mains, my husband's curry fried rice was good and enough for two meals. I also got the gulai kambing, and I liked the flavor but wish there had been more vegetables in it. That being said, the beef portion was generous. There were lots of other types of dishes to try, and I look forward to getting food from them again in the future.

Yelp
Bali Kitchen was my last dine-in meal before the SIP but we already can feel what was to come.  The St. Paddy's Day parade that was scheduled for that day was cancelled.  We were literally their only diners that whole day that they closed up after we finished.  The rain coming down in Old Sacramento was a dark contrast to when we were here last, before the holidays when everything was decorated, festive, and vibrant.   But onto the food.  Indonesian restaurants are few and far between with the closure of Jayakarta and Padi's in the Bay Area.  The Gulai Kambing, a goat curry soup hit the spot on this wet day and Nasi Kuning was delicious with the yellow turmeric rice topped with scrambled egg, beef rendang, tempeh orek, peanuts and fried anchovy.  I could've used a little more beef rendang but having so much variety gave each bite a different flavor to the dish.  The dishes were made from scratch with love by the owners and that was the perfect comfort we needed like getting a "hug" since a real one seems like a distant memory these days.

Yelp
This was good food I will definitely go again. The lemon ginger tea was surprisingly good.

Yelp
Sadly a number of Indonesian restaurants in my area had closed over the years. My old boss whom grew up in Indonesia introduced us to a slew of menu items, most of which you can order here! I ordered the Indonesian Fried Chicken. This was a pressure cooked in a turmeric marinade, and then flash fried. A mild spice to the chicken. On the side is your hot sauce comprised of hot oil, peanut sauce and what seemed like hoisin or plum sauce. The hot sauce was medium and was a great addition to the chicken. With a total of three pieces this was a full lunch. I ordered a iced Cendol, it had a toffee like taste and green jelly on top. There are many other drink options, but this was very refreshing. There are also small fridges with bottled/canned drinks if you want soda or the tea drink called "teh botol" The menu board over the counter has a lot of items on it, and only some items have pictures. The cashier was happy to answer any questions about the menu. There were about five tables, and it was quite compact, but here were people eating in and people ordering take out, a lot of activity at 1:30 on a Thursday afternoon. Parking can be a challenge, I happen to have walked over from the office about a mile away. Bali Kitchen used to be Indocafe, the only Indonesian restaurant in Sacramento. If you want something different, stop on by, there is something for everyone.

Yelp
Food has gone downhill since the last time I visited. I am shocked that an order of chicken fried rice and small order of their fried chicken and ended up costing more than $20. Talk about being pricey! If it was tasty, then yeah, the price is worth it. But if the quality is simple and bland, it shouldn't cost this much. Food is overpriced, maybe due to location. Took more than 25 minutes for them to cook two simple dishes (asked for to go) and the food quality wasn't even worth the wait. They need to clean the display area where they located their pastries and other miscellaneous items. They need to deep clean this store in general because the decors and furnitures are coated with dust.

Yelp
We stopped in mid-day for lunch because we really wanted to try legit nasi goreng for the first time after making it at home a lot over the past year. The dish I got was bland, soggy, and had no flavor at all-- let alone the spice and sweetness that basically defines the dish. The rice was so mushy and soft that it was paste-like, and the chicken seemed totally unseasoned. My plate was easily half onions and cabbage, and the strongest flavor i could discern, if i focused, was celery. I considered asking for sauce, but honestly, I didn't think it could save it even if I did. The cendol was nice, thankfully, but the food was basically inedible. I ended up throwing away half the plate when i couldn't stomach any more. It was also expensive for the portions.

16 dollars for a small plate with little meat or rice. Ordered a drink with boba and the boba were hard.
