The 38 Best Restaurants in New Delhi, India | Eater

"Price Range: $$ Until a decade ago, nihari in Delhi was specifically a breakfast dish, when the slow-cooked meat stew and hot khmeri (yeasted) rotis were usually served in the old city to residents when they arrived after morning prayers in the mosque. In the last five years or so, though, nihari has spread to other parts of the capital, even suburban, residential neighborhoods. Here, it can be eaten in a restaurant at any hour of the day, but often at a lower quality due to a lack of devotion compared to that of traditional cooks. Ballimaran, a small, beloved restaurant in the city’s South East, serves up all-day nihari as good as that in the old city. The menu is compact and trustworthy; aside from mutton nihari and “bong” or beef-shank nihari, there is keema (mince, which is cooked with potatoes) and bheja (brain stew). The rotis are always fresh and hot, and the stew’s fat and spice are well balanced — no small feat. Know before you go: The stew’s melt-off-the-bone meat comes, thankfully, in both small and big portions." - Sharanya Deepak

Their nahari is top notch. Nahari (or Nihari) is a traditional Mughlai dish, a slow-cooked stew made with meat (often buffalo, mutton, or goat), typically using shank, trotters (paya), or brain (bheja). It’s rich in protein and a staple in Old Delhi’s food scene, particularly in Ballimaran, a historic area known for its Mughlai cuisine.

This place is not for calorie counting people. We had mixed Nalli Nahari and Khamiri roti. Meat was mouth melting drenched in fat, tender!! The taste is mainly fat and some spices. The person who was serving suggested first to take a quarter then if we can eat he would refill and honestly that's the perfect amount for two.

The food was delicious & mouth savoury... It's taste will last longer in mind and whenever you think about nihari.. you think about this place ... 👌 It's also very cheap as I ordered one bong nahari mix & 4 khameri roti which cost me around 252rs. And also there is enough space for dine in. Cash & online payments both are available.. This area is always crowded and there is no parking available nearby however you can park your 2 wheeler in front of the shop... But there is no space for a 4 wheeler.. so avoid your car..🚗 Overall, my experience is great & I hope this will help you 🙏 🙏

I tried their Bong Nahari and it had such a rich taste. Would love to their other dishes sometime. Really enjoyed my meal. Staff was very friendly and helped in shooting video for my YouTube Channel.

One of the finest places serving Nahari. The bread enhanced the flavours. I prefer mine without the butter or ghee. The place is comfortably accessible. Do add this one to your next visit to Shaheen Bagh with or without your friends and family. One suggestion, it would be great if you can make it wheelchair accessible.

Belive me if you are nihari and paya lover, then this is the best place. I ordered the quarter nihari and paya with naan, ohoo just loved it, the garnish they give, that longitudinal thin pieces of ginger and meshed green chillies with lemon that's the add on on that delicious dish (as I shared some of the pics so that one can sense the dish ; (this place is only for dinner as the restaurant opens after 7 pm everyday. There is separate section for family so that one can enjoy the meal at it's best. The dishes are value for money and the meal is reasonable and best. The ambience is average and the service is best, the workers are co-operating. The nihari taste some what similar to karim's nihari (i.e in Lucknow). I also added the menu pic.
