Portland’s Hyped Filipino Panaderia Balong Is Finally Open | Eater Portland

"Launched as a pop-up in 2023 by chef Justin Dauz, it almost instantly acquired a reputation as one of the finest breakfast sandwiches around, not just for the bouyant, slightly sweet pan de sal that Dauz bakes himself, but the sausage (which Dauz makes himself) and the sun-dried tomato and garlic aioli. It took over the space that used to be Meianna Bakery in April and has been going through a soft opening phase, but as of last week it is open. The Oregonian reports that it’s open from Wednesday through Sunday, 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and offering sandwiches alongside fancy hashbrowns and an array of baked goods including “cheddar-scallion biscuits, cheese-stuffed pan de sal, calamansi-strawberry bars and Cinnabon-inspired coffee rolls.” The bad news is that you should expect lines." - Harry Cheadle

Good place for hanging out with friends, but not family friendly. Don’t go during weekend or peak hours, the place could be so crowded with people and photo spots are filled with people

Very beautiful place to visit and great staff. Huge parking lot. You can take a group picture ini 4 spots with mountain and lake backgrounds. But need improvement in food quality 🙏🏼

The scene was awesome! Yet, it should improve the food and its cleanliness.

My wife told our lil famz to try this brand new cafe which is located near Garut City. You can access the location through Cipanas main road—route that usually people take to get to hot springs water recreation—or alternative route via Tarogong with, unfortunately, low quality road. We use moto, so we dont have too much complain about the route. After motorcycling for almost half an hour, we arrived and "welcomed" by 5 IDR thousand park lot ticket 🫥. We took staircase and went right to the "main scenary", the lake. Was already crowded with local tourists, so after taking quick snapshots, we continue to make order. There were a lot of menu you can choose. However, here was the problem, it took almost 20 minutes or even more to get our gultik served, Good! The coffee and chocolate were fine. So, will I visit it again? Probably not. Nevertheless, I dont know if I come here again when the visitors are less crowded, maybe the feeling would be different.

Overrated place really. The food we ordered was average, a little bit pricey maybe due to the location of the cafe. Yes it is got a beautiful view but very unorganised. We went there around 1pm and so many menus were sold out. Lots of people just hanging around after they finishes their meals, making hard to find the place/table to eat. The only good things about this place was the view and the jeep ride, and these two things easily enough to get it from different places.

IMHO, this is very overrated place. I wouldn’t say the view is fantastic. Not as beautiful as being advertised. The food is meh, nothing special. I ordered some cuanki, coffees and smoothies. They are average. Price is reasonable but I can get better food quality with the same amount of money or less somewhere else. Overall a bit disappointed.
