"You might smell Forn Baluard before you see it—the sour smell of the bread (all of which is made from homemade sourdough starters) is known to waft through the neighborhood. The bakery itself is run by Anna Bellsolà, a fourth generation baker who has become famous for her airy, just-chewy-enough baguettes and Italian loaves. One of the best things about the place is its exceptionally local feel; bread is blessedly inexpensive and you're likely to wait in line next to hungry kids and elderly shoppers alike. There's a glass partition separating the customers from the back-of-house, so you can see the bakers working, moving loaves in and out of the wood-fired stone oven."

For bread, I love Forn Baluard (multiple locations).

This is hands down the best bakery in Barcelona! It's lively every morning, but absolutely worth the wait. The seating is cozy and limited, yet the charm and energy of the place make up for it. Prices are reasonable, and the fresh pastries and sandwiches are delightful--they even offer the option to toast or heat up the sandwiches. The coffee and cappuccinos are fantastic, too. You can watch the bakers at work through the windows, and the smell of freshly baked bread fills the air. I highly recommend starting your day with breakfast here!

My oh my! Chanced upon this place while walking around and went in to take a look. The bakes looked so good it was a feast for the eyes But what was better was this fruit bread. Looked unassuming but man, it was so so good. They definitely did not skimp on the dried fruits (apricot, dates etc) and the hazelnut was the perfect touch as it added a bit of fragrances - Pa De Fruits Secs They charge by weight for this so you can pick how big or small you want We got 3, this, another walnut + raisins and classic white sourdough The other 2 were ok but pls get this fruit bread!

Google
The vibe was good. The coffee is okay, the chocolate croissant was great! It’s crispy outside with layers. But the cinnamon rolls was quite dry. Don’t get cinnamon rolls instead, get chocolate croissants (Croissant dues xocolates) The staff was very friendly. The price wasn’t expensive. Cafe latte is 1,85€ I will come to try other stuff. And maybe I will change my mind about the patisserie.

Google
Best breads in the city without a doubt! Their baguettes are incredible so do other breads and bakery. You can buy ready sandwiches for a picnic at the Barceloneta beach but you can also buy a bread and complement the stuff from supermarket to make your own sandwiches, as I like with mozzarella, avocado and tomato. They also have a cafe just across the street where you can buy coffee and pastries, which is also possible to have a seat and chat or work.

Google
Baluard serves my favorite bread in Spain. When it comes to the Kalamata olive loaf, it is the best I’ve ever had. Service is quick and friendly, so don’t be put off by a line extending outside. It’s worth the short wait!

Yelp
At the bottom of the shopping center. There are lots of breads and desserts like carrot cake. Very reasonable prices. I picked up a baguette.

Yelp
Best bakery I've ever been to. I went every morning during my study abroad and bought the chocolate croissant and the baluard bread/baguette. The staff is unbelievably friendly and there are many locations throughout the city.

Yelp
Everything is good at Ballard. We have eaten there at least 30 times and plan to go back there again as soon as we get back to Barcelona.

Yelp
Omg!!! The best pastries in Barcelona! I had the almond croissant and it was absolutely delicious. There almond paste was warm and the croissant was flaky. The breads looked unbelievable too. A must stop.

Yelp
Oh boy, Baluard is amazing. I loved my pastry here. If I lived in Barcelona, I would try to live as close as I could to a Baluard. We stopped in early in the morning where locals were coming in to pick up a quick breakfast option or bread for the day. The pastry case here is beautiful and full of wonderful breads and pastries. I wish I could have had one of everything. People here order quickly and while no one rushes you, to keep up with the local traffic, be ready to pick out what you want. Lots of smiles here as well, especially to us tourists who spoke limited Spanish. So great, and definitely a perfect spot for breakfast (limited coffee options available as well).

Yelp
Rating: 97/100 pts This is truly an exceptional bakery. If you don't read to the end, know that after coming here, I returned for a second time the very next day, and would gladly have done so every day if I lived nearby. Even coming twice did little to quell my fervent desire for this fantastic bread! Craft-focused chefs are working just beside the area where you line up, which you can affirm yourself through the glass windows. Watch as they ardently knead, bake, and finish bread and pastries, which they bring fresh out of the oven, right into the display case. It doesn't get fresher than this. The first section of the display case contains their regular/loaf breads, which continues into their sweet pastries, and ends in their savory sandwiches. Over the course of two days' breakfasts, I tried a good sampling of all their items, and all of it was fantastic. In particular, the savory sandwiches were an amazing deal: they have one with thinly sliced ham, artisan cheese, and greens, drizzled with olive oil on pepita bread which was among the best sandwiches I've ever had. (Only to be rivaled by the olive bread, sun-dried tomato vegetarian sandwich I had the following day.) The phenomenal bread would guarantee a great sandwich, but this is further enhanced by stellar quality ingredients. Note that the upper floors of this bakery are a hotel. During prime hours of the day, priority is given to hotel guests for use of the cafe space, so be ready to take it to go if you aren't staying here. And don't miss their deliciously foamy Cafe con Leche!

Yelp
We were walking by and saw a line from local people. We had also conducted a Google search for a bakery. I'm glad we did. We grabbed a sandwich and a slice if carrot cake. Both were delicious and reasonably priced. They also accept credit cards and the staff is friendly (they didnt speak English and I don't have enough Spanish under my belt). The baguettes and other loaves of bread seemed very cheap and I would have loved to take some home and eat with butter. If we weren't here for just 2 days, I could definitely see myself coming back here for more.

Yelp
We have had the best breads, pastries, and tasty treats here every time that we have visited Barcelona. The location is perfect, and you can take out a variety of great snacks and rent a bike to ride down the boardwalk. Highly recommended!!!

Yelp
Good bakery that we stopped into when in the area. Everything smelled freshly baked and delicious. Plenty to chose from different kinds of bread, donuts, cakes, pies, etc. Great place to stop for a snack. I believe it's a chain store but I'm not positive about that. But it's good nonetheless.

Yelp
Really wanted to try this place, because of the good reviews - read somewhere that the bread/pastries here would be "French" in terms of caliber/quality. I didn't get around to visiting Baluard (near the beach, your stop should be Barceloneta on L2, I think) until the night before I had to leave Barcelona. I didn't want to get more money from the cash machine. I had about €15 left in bills & coins, & €6 of this was for the Aerobus. Lol. I thought I be hustlin' or I buy somewhere where food is affordable. I figured Baluard was a good place to go. There was a short queue, & it looked like mostly locals were buying bread. I ordered an Ensaimada (my friend said it would be different from the Ensaimada we're familiar with), a pastry with peach & pistachios, & a flaky spinach pastry. All of these cost €5. I cut these in half, & left half with my BCN roomie. I'm pretty sure he enjoyed them, too. I thought Baluard's pastries were of great quality. I'm not sure I have a good basis for comparison, but they kind of reminded me of Laduree's croissant in that they apparently use good butter - just the right amount of it, so it's not like a grease factory, & the ensaimada & peach pastry had the perfect amount of sugar, so the sweetness was just right. I think I know my sweets, & I hate it when desserts are either TOO sweet, or not sweet enough. They probably weigh their ingredients here. Definitely going back, the next time I'm in BCN :))

Yelp
One of Barcelona's most famous bakeries! Lots of great loaves of bread and baguettes. They also have a lot of pastries! I got a quarter of a loaf of sourdough which was €1.70. Pretty decent sourdough, although i've had better. So many choices that it's hard to decide!

Yelp
Savory items such as the puff pastry with chicken or jamon are flakey & cheesy. You are what you eat. Get a few, because after we tried to split one, we went back. The women behind the counter are dressed like Maria Von Trapp when she styled the kids in curtains. Get a variety of items and sit on the bench and people watch here. My recommendations: Baguette, croissant, ensaimada, truffles, sandwich on the nut grain bread, San Sebastián loaf. Carb heaven ! Some well known restaurants in BCN post that bread is provided by Baluard. It's such a well known quality product amongst the community, you must get off your tour bus for this.

Yelp
Every ex-pat who has lived or spent a lot of time in the Barceloneta neighborhood will point out that this bakery is the best in Barcelona and that there is always a line out the door. There's no denying it though, Baluard has some dang good bread. It's properly filled with pastries, confections, empanadas, bocadillos, Spanish style pizza and mountains of different types of bread. Yes, there always is a line, not normally out the door, but considering most bakeries in Barcelona might have only tumble-weeds in their shops, it is a thing. One might think that waiting in line I would have time to figure out what type of bread I wanted, baguette, brown, rye, with fruits, nuts or vegetables, sweet, and so on. But no, I'm always so overwhelmed by everything that by the time it's my turn and I am aware there is a line behind me, I mumble "Integral" (brown/wheat) and take whatever version of it they offer me first. To be fair, whatever I get is always really good and I devour it up much quicker than the typical supermarket bread. There is a part of me that wants this to be more like a New York City bakery, like Dean and Deluca, but I am in Catalonia, so it's like all the other bakeries in Barcelona. Except, it is better than all the one's I've experienced here.

Yelp
Located in the heart of Barceloneta between Joan de Borbó and the Placa del Poeta Bosca, Baluard is the local bakery you wish every other bakery were like. I'm talkin' Gold Standard here! We happened upon this place simply because it was several blocks from our summer rental... and it became our absolute favorite, long before finding out it was regarded as the "Best in Barcelona" by the locals. (It turns out that many of the high-end restaurants in town buy their breads and other baked goods RIGHT HERE.) The sales floor is tiny - 300 square feet? The business is brisk - four counter staff, always busy. The service is - impeccable! We were made to feel that we (despite our limited Castillian and virtually non-existent Catalán) were the most important people on the planet... every time we went there! Oh, and the baked goods? Hmm... those of you that know me will recognize that I do not exaggerate... but these were simply... extraordinary! From the fruit tarts (where the fruit still retained it's character, having not become merely a colorful blob) to the absolutely BEST cannoli I've ever tasted (it's the zest... trust me... and you're welcome!), the baker proves time and again that he is a gifted artisan. As for the breads here... if you like a good baguette, you'll really need to try every type that they offer. The nuances in flavor and texture among the different varieties made it impossible for me to choose a favorite after only five weeks. So there you go! What else can I say, other than when we move to Barcelona, it'll be worth commuting to Barceloneta to visit Baluard... on a regular basis!

Yelp
Le Cool guidebooks (if you haven't heard of it, it's worth a look) led us to "the best bread in Barcelona" and I have to agree. The selection of bread, both baguette and loaves as well as an assortment of savory and sweet pastures, was huge. The shop was buzzing with people midday and I understand why. The Baluard Baguette was crusty, just the right amount of saltiness and tasted wonderfully with my precious Jamon Iberico that is quickly becoming part of my day.

Yelp
Coming from Paris and it's famous bakeries, I could not believe the quality of the bread but also the pastries at this Baluard! We young woman was so patient with me not knowing what to select. We had a slice of bread with nuts and dried fruits, the ham and cheese croissant one of the best sought I ve ever tasted. I m going back to Tomorrow because it would be a sin not to try more items.

Yelp
I recently vacationed in Barceloneta, and was told by an expat who lived in the area that this bakery was the best in all of Barcelona. After being a bit let down by the "best Paella in Barcelona" recommendation I had received, I went to Baulard skeptical. Luckily, Baulard actually lived up to the title. The baguettes were absolutely delicious. Crusty outside, soft and chewy inside. I'd highly recommend visiting the nearby market and picking up some lomo and jamon iberico to make an amazing sandwich. I ended up going back more than once. I tried a couple of different pastries (one with a sweetened ricotta filling was a standout), but this is definitely a very typical Spanish bakery where the bread is the star of the show. A lot of other reviews talked about the long lines, but both times I visited I didn't have to wait very long at all. It seemed like a well-run operation. I can't say for sure if this is the best bakery in Barcelona, but I can confirm you can get some spectacular bread.

Yelp
On vacation walking around Barcalonetta and just happened by Baluard. I am not one who can walk by any establishment that is doing their craft well as my mid section can attest to. This particular day I just happened to pass by the best bakery in Barcelona apparently. A bakery that as a bread maker myself makes me mad with jealousy. I grabbed a few different loaves to take to my friend who lives in Barri Gotic for a night of Cava wine and general silliness and he was quite amazed that of all places I found this one. We had a rustic white, a whole grain and nut, and a puglisie style loaf all of which were amazing. My favorite being the whole grain and nut. From what he says the sweets here are just as amazing as the bread. If you're going no carb this would be the place you need to make an exception for. It's that good. Cheers!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious selection! We found this bakery while walking from our flat and enjoyed their bread & pastries so much we returned nearly every day during our stay in Barceloneta. Really good service...look forward to going back next time.

Yelp
Amazing! We walked in off the street because of the beautiful smells wafting out of the bakery and we're not disappointed. The service was also excellent. We had a delicious pasty filled with eggplant, courgette and feta - a highlight! The elcair was also great.

Yelp
If there were one thing I could take home from my trip to Barcelona, it would be the fresh Baluard Baguettes. It's incredible how much better these breads are than others in the city. Their almond croissants are also "fantastico." Service is friendly and fast, even if there is a line. Worth a walk.
google avatar

Dian L.

Yelp
There are lots of 'locals' lining up to buy breads and baked goods in Baluard. I thought this has to be a good sign. I don't have the stomach or time to eat a baguette or pan barceloneta but if I stayed here I might. Instead I've bought white chocolate croissants, almond croissants, and a berry galette from Baluard in this location and its Passeig de Gracia location. Though I usually don't like croissants, all of the things I listed have been flavorful and tremendous.

Yelp
Amazing bread and nice staff! Tourist friendly but seems to have mostly locals popping in. We had the olive bread and it is AWESOME! They will cut any amount you want and slice it for you if you desire. We also had a fruit muffin- a little bit not what we expected as it was more like a cake once we tasted it than a muffin- sweeter than we wanted but we still ate it all!! This place is worth finding if you are near the beach or in Born!

KimD D.

Yelp
Oh, if I could take this gem of a bakery home! We stumbled upon in walking through the square, following the fragrance of freshly baked bread. Loaves are crusty outside with an excellent crumb. To add to all this bread happiness the pastries, especially the savory ones, are delectable. It would be difficult to choose a favorite, but the jamon, spinach, and cheese were right up there. They made cinnamon rolls on one of our visits, causing us to run back in and buy another each before we walked too far away. You can borrow a bench in the square to eat or take it back home. Just enjoy! Prices are super reasonable and we only had long lines one day. Totally worth it. I would brave the line anytime to eat there baked goods.
