"Come Friday and Saturday, the tables at Bambi are cleared after service and DJs spin centrist house music until 1am, with the sake and pickle juice martinis going down with ease. The London Fields wine bar knows what it’s doing—a funky bottle list, a counter-cum-DJ-booth, bowls of chips and aioli—and it does it satisfyingly well. Of course, you can come here for a full meal, too. A booking at 9pm (on the cusp of dinner-to-DJ service) is a smart move, and lining your stomach with oysters and burrata is something we’d highly recommend." - rianne shlebak, jake missing, sinead cranna, daisy meager, heidi lauth beasley

Where To Go When You Want To Dance But Hate Clubs

"Bambi is a wine bar and European-ish small plates restaurant in Hackney, serves a mean pickle martini, and has a DJ booth. It’s going to rub some people up the wrong way, gammon or not. Whereas anyone who’s ever dominated the aux cord is going to love it. You can perch on a stool, film a candlelit chicken parm sandwich, and dance until 1am. Is it special? Frankly, no. Is it the perfect restaurant for London Fields? Almost definitely, yes. Taking the airy space once occupied by east London royalty, , this a good time place. The music bumps and the choice of margaritas and martinis is generous. There’s pickle juice, there’s yuzu, there’s an agreeable £10 price. The room is a chiropractor’s Christmas—entirely high tables and stools—but most of the tote-hoarding crowd don’t care. They’re just sharing gooey cauliflower cheese arancini and Googling the symptoms of RSI.  With its late licence and sound system, Bambi is best as a bar first and a restaurant second. The food satisfies rather than stuns. If roast chicken with green sauce is on it’s a fine choice, otherwise a slab of ricotta-topped toast is a great snack for the table. There are plenty of vegetables to pick at and the low-intervention wine list starts at around £7 a glass. Mind you, if you want thorough advice and guidance in the grape department, this isn’t the place to come to. Rumour has it that east London likes DJs and small plates. So, in those terms, Bambi is on the money. Even if it feels a little post-zeitgeist. Rewind to 2017 and this would be the edgiest wine bar and restaurant in London. As it is, it’s a safe choice for some crudo, fries, and funky pét nat. Come for dinner, sure. Most importantly, swing by for a dance. " - Jake Missing

"We’re glad to hear there’s no deer on the menu at Bambi. This wine bar and small plates restaurant is keeping things more charming. There’ll be a curated music programme, oyster happy hours, and big Sunday roasts, as well as snacky sharing bits—butter beans, coppa, arancini, and more. The modern European-leaning restaurant takes the space of Bright in Hackney. We checked out Bambi and added it to the Hit List." - Team Infatuation

"Bambi is a wine bar that laughs in the face of every London meme account. The London Fields spot ticks every mockable box: a funky bottle list, the counter-cum-DJ-booth, small sharing plates of roasted vegetables—and makes it thoroughly enjoyable. This place understands its crowd and knows that roasted chicken with fries and aioli always go down a storm. Especially with a drinks and cocktail list that’s just as good for wannabe sommeliers as it is for non-drinkers. Come Friday and Saturday, tables are cleared after service and DJs spin centrist house music until 1am, with the sake and pickle juice martinis going down with ease." - Jake Oliver, Daisy Meager, Sinead Cranna, Rianne Shlebak

I don’t understand the negative reviews. Service was one of the best I had in London, super friendly and attentive, we felt really taken care of. I wish I knew the name of our waiter to give him credit. We didn’t stay for the DJ but really good vibe, it’s giving New York. We went for the chef’s selection and really enjoyed the food! Our favourites were the leeks, Brussels sprouts if you can believe it, deep fried feta and prawns. Delicious dessert (chocolate cremeux) and solid spicy margs 🌶️ Don’t be put off by the nay sayers, it’s a great spot all round

Been coming here for a while now. Outstanding food and service from Sam, Dan and the team. Great wine recommendations from Francesco and Ella. When the lights were dimmed and the DJ started playing, Annabel and Tom kept us happy with Bambi martinis all night! The ginger haired lad is always chirpy too (can’t remember his name).

Bambi! We had 8 delicious plates between 4 people. It was my girlfriend’s birthday so they brought over a round of fizz on the house! Ella was an absolute delight and really made the experience 👑 5 stars

Cute place. Saturday night service was busy, it’s a small space and so when it fills up there is definitely an atmosphere. The live DJ was good background music and you could still hold a conversation. The set menu was very good with the exception of a couple average dishes; the lamb was a highlight. Cocktails were okay. Not all tables had proper seats, some had stools. The servers weren’t the friendliest, but they were attentive and the kitchen sent each of the courses out in good time. Very accommodating of the dietary requirements/allergies of the group.

My wife booked us an early dinner at Bambi based on an online recommendation. The location was very pleasant, with a music records / wooden karma theme in the decor. We ordered a drink, Aporol which arrived quickly and tasted delicious, although at £9.50 I would expect the size to be much bigger, so would avoid ordering again. The food order was taken, we were recommended 5-6 plates, which we went for. Within a matter of 2 minutes of giving the order all but the the mains arrived on the table and we had finished the starters within 15 minutes of arriving. Perhaps slow down a bit in future and let customers enjoy the occasion. The staff were very friendly and the food good too. It came to £125 with service for 2 people, we had a carafe of wine as well as cocktails. The cod with chicken sauce was the standout dish for me. I would return again.

Top notch place for atmosphere and general vibe. There is a dj inside the place playing music which becomes louder later on at night. The restaurant becomes a bar. They remove tables and everything which I find super cool. The food is good, you should order from 4 to 5 dishes for 2 people as portions are not too big and everything is to share. I love the asparagus and the chicken! Desserts are also surprisingly good. Recommended for a night out
