This restaurant has been here quite a while and, with the proliferation of "buffets" all over, you know they should be doing something good. Well, their food is typical Chinese fare, their restaurant ambience is everything you would expect in a Chinese restaurant.
So, all things being equal, this place does measure up with other, typical, Chinese restaurants. I had the lunch special of General Tso's Tofu (yeah, I know) with fried rice and an egg roll. I also chose the egg drop soup that comes with the lunch menu. Well, the waitress never wrote any of our orders down so I was curious..... sure, enough, she brought me Won Ton soup and not egg drop. She quickly went back and got me the right one. The rest was delivered as ordered. The egg drop soup, by the way, was excellent.
The tofu had a crispy exterior but seemed a bit less "firm" on the inside - like it hadn't been pressed enough to start. The sauce for it though was quite tasty. My one gripe is it was labeled as "spicy" on the menu and this was anything BUT spicy. I asked for some chili oil, but it never arrived by the time I finished what I had (which wasn't that much considering the MOUNTAIN of protein that I'd seen on other plates).
The fried rice was as you'd expect. It was good, but, that's it. The broccoli that came with the meal was fresh and still had a bit of crispness. That was good. The egg roll was crispy, tasty, but a little small - more like a fried spring roll.
Service was friendly, but had some missteps. Prices are pretty standard as others. So, it's no wonder Bamboo Garden has been around so long - they consistently bring decent food, decent service, at decent prices.
