"A local’s best-kept secret, Bambu serves up some of the best Mexican food on the island, including what could be Galveston’s best “surprise” burritos — a combination of scrambled eggs,  cheese, bacon, refried beans, and potatoes. The carne asada and barbacoa tortas are also worth the trip." - Lane Gillespie, Brittany Britto Garley

Damn.. What a gem this place is. The food was great. Portion sizes amazing and the service & atmosphere was so pleasing to the eye and ear. I had the eggs and pork chops meal. Amazing breakfast!

SOOO GOOD! Big tortillas, and big servings. The quesadillas is cheesy and the breakfast plate is fulfilling. Their salsa isnt spicy but tasty. The sweet tasted fresh. And the chipskept their crisp. The staff are amazing and have a pleasant vibe. Parking is limited, but handicap accessible.

The food was so delicious. All the people there was so friendly and smiling. The lemonade was the best I've had in a while. If your in Galveston you definitely need to stop by and get something to eat!

If you're in Galveston and looking for a dining experience that's both flavorful and full of surprises, Bambu is a must-visit. From the moment you step in, the vibrant, inviting atmosphere sets the tone for an enjoyable meal. The service is top-notch—attentive, friendly, and eager to ensure you have a great experience. Now, let's talk about the food: It's nothing short of exceptional. The menu is diverse, featuring a fusion of fresh, locally inspired dishes with bold flavors. But the real star of the show? The surprise burrito. It's not your average wrap—this dish combines the unexpected with mouthwatering taste. Packed with ingredients that balance both comfort and creativity, it’s a true standout that will leave you craving more. Whether you're in the mood for something familiar or looking to try something new, Bambu delivers. Great service, excellent food, and a fun twist on traditional favorites make this restaurant a gem on the island. Highly recommended!

This is a nice little restaurant, very clean, with friendly staff. We came in for brekkie on Saturday morning and had the breakfast burritos. Hubby had chorizo, egg, and cheese and I had bacon, egg and cheese. The portions were large but lacking a bit in flavor. We might come back for lunch.

Wow! a new favorite! Staff was polite and available but not hovering. We went around 11:30 and by the time we left the lunch crowd was pouring in. Was a little pricey compared to La Estacion and El Jardin but service was super fast, food cooked to order, served piping hot and was delicious. Plus there was a huge amount! Homemade tortillas were buttery and not too thick or thin. Husband had huevos rancheros and I had migas. Salsas, rojo and verde were homemade. The guacamole was creamy goodness. Homemade chips too. We’ll be back! Went back today, we reversed our order and both enjoyed. Lots of food, enough for leftovers. Still yummy! Update 2/14/2021: Props to Bambu, although a couple of days late. They close at 2:30 and we walked in behind two others at 2:25 last Sunday before Icepocalypse. They welcomed us in and did not hover or hurry us. We had steaming hot, generous portions of huevos rancheros, migas and corn tortillas. For under $20!!! Third time we’ve been and never disappointed. Went yesterday and I had the Barbacoa Gordita ($5), Husband had the barbacoa Street tacos ($7). We could have easily split either and been full. Barbacoa was excellent, well done and not fatty! The gorditas came with a salad and guacamole. Delish!! 12/10/21. We’re officially regulars! Today I strayed from the Huevos Rancheros and got the BEC breakfast burrito because I wanted less food. Not! $4.95 for this delicious monster burrito pictured below. 1/6/25. We go here at least every other week and today we finally had caldo! Husband had beef I had chicken, the small is plenty. You can add jalapeños or avocado but we did not. Full of zucchini Squash, carrots, yellow squash, cabbage, potatoes lots of broth and meat. I added cilantro and salsa.

Found my go to place for breakfast when I'm in town. Been meaning to try this place out, glad I did, but mad I didn't come sooner. Don't miss out, come get you some.

I’ve been here a few times and have not reviewed. Every visit has been awesome! The food is outstanding for the price, the smiling beautiful faces and friendly service are 5 star worthy. Whether you’re on Broadway Ave or Seawall Blvd. find 23rd St. That is between Seawall and Broadway and go here you will thank me!

Yelp
First visit to Bambu Mexican Grill. My first impression was it's clean! Second, was "Is it Chinese food with a Mexican name?" No, it's Mexican! The decor from the previous restaurant is still there - bamboo wallpaper! The service was great for us. The food was very good and at a very reasonable price. I had a platter with a chicken enchilada, taco, and something else (Can't remember the name). It came with rice, guacamole, beans, and pico. I'm not an authority on whether it is authentic Mexican; my friend said it was Tex-Mex. Whatever, it was delicious and I will go again.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Service was not good but we went during Lone Star Rally. They weren't prepared for the crowd. We sat outside but the chairs were chained up & no one had a key to unlock. We had a party of 10 so we made it work...even with chained up chairs. I will go back for the food & give the service a 2nd chance.

Waverly H.

Yelp
I came back since they are around the block from me. Service good, but not that attentive. I had the crispy tacos and definitely will be coming back for these for sure. If the food is consistent I will be back. The place was a little disheveled since I came an hour before closing.

Kendra L.

Yelp
Very sweet, hardworking, friendly staff, with great food, in a nice and clean location. A Galveston favorite for breakfast burritos for sure.

Stephanie W.

Yelp
The city is doing construction in front of the restaurant, but don't let that deter you. There's a few parking spots out front or you can park on the street. The ambiance is super cute. The front porch is decorated and inviting. Once you go inside there's a green decor wall and it's a cute local spot. Being a local spot, it's not the most welcoming. The restaurant was busy but not crowded when we went. It was our first time and the service wasn't the best. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't very prompt or welcoming. I was brought the wrong order and the waitress was irritated to take it back and bring me what I ordered. I felt bad, but I didn't want the food that was brought. The prices online were $2-3 cheaper than what they actually charged in the restaurant so I included updated menus. I was very surprised to see the increased prices. It makes sense with inflation, but was surprising. The salsa wasn't my favorite but it was okay. The food was great. There were 3 of us and we each ordered different dishes and all enjoyed our meal. We'll be back but it's nice to know what to expect going into it.

Norma P.

Yelp
The restaurant is very clean and service was great. We had breakfast and the servings were generous. We will definitely be come by ba

Yelp
This place was just ok. I was craving a good Mexican breakfast and love barbacoa and saw that this place had it. It was a good sized breakfast but the food was pretty bland. Coffee was just ok and the service was just ok. After my food got dropped off my server didn't check on us until I was halfway done with my plate and I had asked for tortillas and they didn't get brought out til then. My boyfriend ordered a burrito and they brought out a large taco. Ambiance is that of a small cafe with tropical print wallpaper. I would not go back here.

Sabrina A.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican breakfast on the island, very rare to find out here. Overall our food was fast and delicious!

Ed B.

Yelp
We ate here for breakfast and as soon as they brought out a freshly made tortilla, I knew I was in the right place!

Stella B.

Yelp
Went here for a breakfast had a tasty meal. We ordered the chorizo and egg plate as well as huevos rancheros. Both were fantastic. The staff were super friendly and attentive as well. If you are looking for a good deal on a delicious brunch, this is the place to go.

Chris Z.

Yelp
I grew up on the border and my favorite Saturday big breakfast morning was always chilaquiles. Regular trips to Mexico to fill up on cheap propane and the Los Alpes motel restaurant across the street led to my favorite breakfast discovery many years ago. Not that lazy Americanized scramble they call migas with everything mixed together in a big soggy mess. Well, after traveling all over the state of Texas on a perpetual chilaquiles quest, I may have found the best rendition yet in Galveston of all places. Perfectly crispy tortilla strips, melted asadero or Oaxacan cheese, a great ranchero sauce, two over easy eggs, with excellent sides of small diced papas fritas and refried beans. Add a side of crispy bacon and it's nap time all over again. Oh, and friendly attentive service with over-sized coffee cups that never go empty.

Yvonne S.

Yelp
The food is always delicious. The service is always on point. My only concern is waiting on to go orders. They may say 10-15 but I have waited as long as 30 minutes.

Jack W.

Yelp
So I drive by this place all the time on my way to another favorite Galveston place of mine, Economy Liquor (so awesome! ); and figured I need some Tex-Mex in my life today. I went in and was promptly greeted and told to pick any table (sweeeet). My waitress was super friendly and helpful. I started with some of the complimentary chips and salsa (made in house, definitely not out of the jar..). I then ordered the beef quesadillas, that came with beans and rice. While I waited I scoped out the dining area, they have both inside and patio seating, which is nice. The bathrooms are clean as is the restaurant itself. The part of the dining room area that I was in was cozy and intimate. You could hear other people's convos which at first might be a little annoying but it just adds to the over all warm and friendly atmosphere. The food was delicious yall, I was more than satisfied when I left and I'll definitely be back! Hats off to everyone there at Bambu; you folks do a great job!

Kenneth R.

Yelp
The plate was cold, so the food got cold before I could finish it. The food wasn't really hot in the first place. The chips were stale.. when I ran out of salsa they didn't refill it. I had to get up to ask for a refill on my drink. All the waitresses hang out by the kitchen. They can't even see their tables. It's like nobody cares.

Stacey P.

Yelp
Door Dash'd right before closing because we live down that street, but this summer heat is no joke. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the meals and the extra attention for delivery.... Both meals were very delicious and we were both overly satisfied and overly full. Plenty for 2 meals actually.... will def order or go again! Yummmm

Cassandra Y.

Yelp
I don't understand the hype, very basic mexican food Herr in Galveston, and overpriced at that. This was our last stop of 4 mexican restaurants in Galveston and not 1 impressed or would I go back to. They brought ONE tiny salsa bowl out. There were tons of construction workers that day for lunch and the street was closed, so we had to walk to get to it. The quesadilla was an excellent portion for the price, I couldn't finish it all.

Sandra K.

Yelp
Service was excellent and the place was moving plates in and out. My husband got a barbacoa burrito and it was very flavorful. I got the migas plate and it was tasty. My tortilla needed more salt and was pretty bland so we barely touched it. Beans were delicious and potatoes were cooked crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Salsa could have used more flavor but overall a good experience.

Megan H.

Yelp
Ordered bacon, egg, cheese burrito which was really just an oversized taco. It was HUGE which was awesome for the price (about $7). It only had one strip of bacon in it which was super disappointing for the price and size. Specifically the cheese didn't taste amazing. "Mid". The host was very friendly and quick with takeout orders.

Roy B.

Yelp
Came in for breakfast. Restaurant wasn't busy. Ordered and waiting a pretty long time for our food. When we received it the eggs were slightly warm. The potato's were piping hot. The migas were okay. Nothing special. The chorizo and eggs were good. Our waitress wasn't attentive. Got tired of waiting for my bill and got it at the register. All in all a little disappointed since I have heard good things about it. We will try again.

Yelp
Love-love-love this place & here's why: Best place in Galveston for Mexican/tx . Meal. It's not affiliated to any saltwater or Landry's group, they are special on their own. Glass dinnerware, metal cutlery, plenty of napkins which helps in excellent dish presentation of what ur about to eat. THE FOOD,,,,it's the BEST-yum! The salsa is perfectly spicy and perfect, as it should be. I love everything about this restaurant and the service-also on excellent mark! Repeated Refills to your H2O, cafe and they will ask before serving. Parking can be a bit tough but deal with it, it's great food & svc is what we want w/descent prices! it can or does or will get loud bc some customers don't tone it down for others but that accounts to how happy we are to be there! And it's ok they don't offer seafood, and I've adjusted to the odd closing time @2:30. I hadn't been in almost a year, bc I live and work on the west end, and when I've wanted to go, they're closed but hey, every single time it works out for me to finally go bc helps appreciating them even more- thank you ,,,gracias Bambu in Galveston!

Petey B.

Yelp
Love the breakfast, when we visit Galveston this is our spot for breakfast, haven't tried their lunch but I'm pretty sure it's good

Valerie M.

Yelp
Food is always amazing as well as the staff. Best menudo and caldo in my opinion. Highly recommend.

Eric G.

Yelp
Tasty food, friendly service , and great prices ! This is an annual visit from Houston we look forward to.

Teresa D.

Yelp
I tried this restaurant for breakfast and the service was great and so was the burrito. It wasn't wrapped like a burrito more like a fully stuffed taco but extremely large and delicious. It is a pretty decent size place with a small outdoor patio.

Melissa C.

Yelp
January 4, 2020 in the area and stopped by for a to-go order. Took a minute to be acknowledged because they were full. ( seating inside is limited because of Covid protocol) Ordered a "migas" breakfast burrito and the Mexican plate with one of the following: enchilada, taco and tostado with beans and rice. The plate lunch was delicious in that Tex-Mex kinda way...yummy! But, albeit huge...the burrito lacked flavor. SUPPORT LOCAL BUY LOCAL

Randy B.

Yelp
Surprise Breakfast Borritos were pretty bland and the bacon was undercooked but a great price, and they give you plenty of salsa to add some flavor.

Susan H.

Yelp
This is our go to for Mexican food on the island since finding it in May 2023, we've already visited at least 6 times. Love the fresh crispy tacos, chalupas, the cheese and chicken enchiladas are so delicious. The beans and rice are excellent and we love their chips and salsa. Staff is always so friendly and efficient, they keep the table cleared and check on you often.

Angel E.

Yelp
Solid place to eat some good Mexican food. The portions were big big. 100% would be here constantly if I lived here.

Javier V.

Yelp
Large burritos good relatively inexpensive great taste. I took the tacos to go so I don't know much about the atmosphere

Iana R.

Yelp
If I could give this place ZERO STARS I WOULD! BAMBU MEXICAN GRILL gets ZERO stars from me, POOR customer service, I wouldn't recommend this place to my WORST enemy. NOBODY greeted me, I HAD to leave cause nobody came to greet me, I waited patiently while waiters walked around, never spoke to me and or said "give me a second" NOTHING. ZERO STARS on the way out to spend my money else where I tripped on a rug THAT was the icing on the cake for ME!

Tanya H.

Yelp
Food is mediocre. The tortillas are weirdly thick and too chewy. Vida Agave is worlds better. Also they are very inconsiderate of neighbors in this residential neighborhood blasting music on the weekend close to midnight.

Marcos J.

Yelp
While I was on the hunt for a fresh Galveston lunch spot, I stumbled upon Bambu - and what a discovery! This gem truly lives up to the hype, earning its spot among the island's finest Mexican restaurants. On our first visit we shared the beef fajita quesadilla and beef burrito supreme - both were tasty, but the quesadilla reigned supreme. Packed with delicious, marinated fajita beef, gooey cheese, and sensational flavors, it set a new standard for quesadillas. Paired with fluffy rice and refried beans, this was a lunch fiesta that I will defiantly make a return visit. The flavors of the salsa and quesadilla will have you shouting 'Olé' after every mouthwatering bite! #BambuEats #Galvestonlunch #QuesadillaDreams

Julie S.

Yelp
Amazing food and good quantity/quality for the price. Staff was so kind and welcoming. So glad we tried this place.

Nichole W.

Yelp
My new favorite restaurant in Galveston! The food was so good and all of the servers were so nice. Their rice is very good, and I enjoyed the tacos al carbon. They're doing everything just right, and I can't wait to go back.

Tracy F.

Yelp
Great plates, good coffee and the price is right!

Danielle S.

Yelp
If you want good Mexican food in Galveston, this is the place to go! We ordered the carne guisada and barbacoa torta and both were some of the best we've had! The carne guisada was incredibly flavorful! The barbacoa torta was not greasy at all which was such a great surprise! The service was impeccable, everyone was very nice and prompt with service! Will definitely be back again! I also would not describe it as a hole in the wall restaurant, I think it's just not on a major road in town which makes it harder to find!

Lisa V.

Yelp
1/16/22. Great as usual! Had my normal Huevos Rancheros but substituted the potatoes for rice. The rice was very flavorful! We go here at least once a week and usually have breakfast though we've had the fajita beef nachos and the cheese enchiladas. Have to share this photo. These are not dinner plates, they're platters!

Cathy H.

Yelp
Food and service were great! Serving size for both orders were pretty large. Everything tasted really fresh.

Teresa L.

Yelp
This place was recommended by our Air B&B host for breakfast burritos. They are excellent and HUGE!!! The first day we got one for each of us along with 3 scoops of guacamole. Way too much food but still fantastic. The next day we got 2 burritos and used the left over guacamole and sour cream. I would highly recommend this place.

Lauren W.

Yelp
Very clean and tidy inside. Tired the menudo and it was very very good. The surprise breakfast burritos and quesadilla were also very good! Great service, should have come by here sooner!

Patricia H.

Yelp
Very nice staff, really good coffee and breakfast food was hot. Salsa is not good but I would come again.

N B.

Yelp
ordered a conventional breakfast with a surprise burrito to go...although good eggs and bacon can be had anywhere, the pancakes stood out....nothing special about the ingredients, but well done and very tasty....I wish they could offer a wider variety of syrups, the pancakes were so good, you can eat by itself.....surprise burrito was also excellent, but I will order a different type next time...

Marti G.

Yelp
I ordered delivery once it was cold and bland. Also a friend has brought me food from here a lot of times in the past few months still tastes bland.

Theresa D.

Yelp
Great food great service reasonable prices service with a smile. Would definitely recommend

Kora E.

Yelp
Loved the breakfast! Always our go to in Galveston. I got the huevos divorciados and my husband barbacoa plate. Our kids love the food as well. Major plus

Vu Tony N.

Yelp
We only had breakfast here and they are awesome. The barbacoa breakfast dish was great - so good that we are going back to get it tomorrow.

Rose R.

Yelp
Nice find! My mom is great at finding hole in the wall Mexican food joints that have tasty breakfast and this is one of them! Got the 'huevos divorciados' aka divorced eggs which is hilarious and proved to be yummy. Others got enchiladas and the Mexican plate, both were good. The ladies there were attentive and very sweet, I recommend

Juan T.

Yelp
