Thai curries, noodles, and fusion dishes with creative twists

"Gretna’s Banana Blossom dishes some of the best Thai on either side of the Mississippi thanks to Jimmy Cho’s creativity— try the ka pao chicken ramen, a riff on the popular Thai street food. His tasty version of steamed or fried pork dumplings, served with a sweet soy ginger sauce, are comfort food and its best, and curry is served six ways, from an elegant green curry studded with fresh vegetables to the egg noodle-based Chiang Mai style." - Clair Lorell

"Banana Blossom, Benny Cho’s place in Gretna, is a fun and funky fusion of flavor, a globetrotting treatment of Thai that will win over even purists. Try crab claws in Thai BBQ sauce, fried ribs with chile sauce, kao pao rib eye ramen, and BBQ shrimp pasta for something just a little different. Yes there’s pad Thai, but why when voodoo noodles is an option?" - Beth D’Addono

"Thai curry is a hug in a bowl, fragrant with coconut, basil, and vegetables. Banana Blossom in Gretna serves curry six ways, from an elegant green curry studded with fresh vegetables to the egg noodle-based Chiang Mai style, popular where owner Jimmy Cho’s family comes from. Pick a protein, from chicken to soft shell crab to shrimp, and order to your spice taste. From dumplings to fried rice and roti, everything on the menu is made with pride. Call to order." - Beth D’Addono

"A family-run gem that’s been serving contemporary Thai on the West Bank for a decade, Banana Blossom Thai Cafe was opened by Jimmy Cho in a Gretna strip mall in 2009 and relocated to a larger West Bank location two years ago; Cho runs it with a family sensibility. The restaurant is partnering with BRG Hospitality for a new Uptown project, and a Facebook photo of Cho with BRG founding owner John Besh was captioned “our new regular customer.” Cho says the forthcoming Uptown spot will still focus on Thai cooking but will be different from Banana Blossom—“more of what you’d have if you came to my mother’s house.”" - Clair Lorell
