12 Best Hotels in Doha, From Wellness Resorts to Historic Guesthouses

"Banana Island is a crescent-shaped island, just a 20 minute private catamaran ride off the coast of Doha. Inspired by a traditional Arabian village on a deserted island, Banana Island Resort is for those wanting to temporarily escape ordinary life. With overwater villas, a spectacular lagoon, onsite wellness center, and array of other entertainment options, there’s no reason to ever leave. While each room is complemented with a private balcony overlooking either the beach, pool or sea, it’s the overwater villas that steal the show. With their own infinity pools, shaded balcony with reclined sun lounges, curved bathtubs in the middle of the spacious bathrooms, and Egyptian cotton sheets on the plush King sized beds, they’re hard to resist. This place is as much for families as it is for honeymooning couples. There is a playground for children, a kids water park, bowling alley, mini golf, and a host of water sports to get the whole family involved. The resort also offers special kids programs, including cooking classes, yoga, and beauty parties." - Jenna Scatena

Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara — Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Why book? Inspired by a traditional Arabian village on a deserted island, Banana Island Resort is for those wanting to temporarily escape ordinary life. With overwater villas, a spectacular lagoon, onsite wellness center, and array of other entertainment options, there’s no reason to ever leave. Set the scene With palm-tree lined walkways, fragrant gardens, a calming lagoon and multiple seaside dining locations, the resort embodies tropical paradise. The architecture pays homage to the local culture, with traditional pitched thatch roofs, white washed stone walls, and Arabian patterned tiles and carvings throughout. With an endless view of turquoise waters, it’s relaxation in the finest Middle Eastern style. The backstory Banana Island is a crescent-shaped island, just a 20 minute private catamaran ride off the coast of Doha. What was once a local fishing island, was transformed into a private retreat for travelers from around the world by Thailand-based Anantara. The incredible reef and sandy beaches around the island were once a local secret but can now be shared with everyone. The resort also lays claim to offer Qatar’s only Maldives-inspired overwater bungalows and villas. The rooms There are over 140 sea view rooms, suites and villas. Food and drink Get lost in the flavors of the world at one of the various dining experiences at the resort. They offer refined Indian, retro American diner-style meals, mezze platters, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. Whether in one of the Bedouin-style tents, at a poolside lounge or table for two on the floating deck, the settings are just as irresistible as the food itself. The spa As one of the few wellness resorts in Doha, the spa draws inspiration from the natural surroundings of the island, with water features weaved throughout natural greenery. It features an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam rooms and an extensive menu of treatments, using the latest technologies and philosophies in skin care and body relaxation. The neighborhood/area Situated on a naturally curved island off the coast of Qatar, the resort is a secluded paradise away from the city of Doha. Yet, there’s plenty of things to keep you busy. There is a private beach where guests can take advantage of the resort's water sports and other activities. The service The staff are well-known for taking care of the little things, from unpacking your luggage to turndown service, it’s all in the details. What really sets the tone for a stay though is the island welcome, a cheerful greeting as you step off the boat with drummers and trays of cold drinks. It’s a genuinely welcoming environment. For families The Banana Island Resort is as much for families as it is for honeymooning couples. There is a playground for children, a kids water park, bowling alley, mini golf, and a host of water sports to get the whole family involved. The resort also offers special kids programs, including cooking classes, yoga, and beauty parties. Eco effort As part of the bigger Anantara brand, there is a solid commitment to sustainability. They aim to reduce energy consumption every year by 10 percent, recycle as much as they can, and minimize water consumption throughout the hotel. Accessibility The resort has been designed to be fully accessible for guests with disabilities, with Braille signage, wheelchair-accessible public areas and rooms with adjusted heights for beds, toilets and shower facilities. Anything left to mention? There are endless activities and entertainment options available, including indoor cinema, nine-hole putting course, fitness center, tennis court, surf pool, kayaking, fishing trips, diving, water skiing, and jet skiing." - Jenna Scatena

Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara (Doha, Qatar) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"This is the sort of thing you do in Qatar: build a crescent-shaped artificial island in the Gulf, a half-hour’s boat ride from Doha, and put a fantastically luxurious resort there. This is Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara, whose rooms, suites, and villas are decorated in sunny tropical colors and furnished with top-flight comforts, as well as views of either the lagoon or the sea. A spa is present as a matter of course, an exhaustive list of leisure offerings leans heavily on the aquatic, and a small handful of restaurants serves everything from upscale Middle Eastern fare to Italian fine dining and a family-friendly American diner experience." - Tablet Hotels

Amazing Stay at Banana Island! Our experience at Banana Island was nothing short of incredible! From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional—everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. The buggies are always available and made it super easy to get around the island. Every driver we met was courteous and helpful. The breakfast buffet was absolutely amazing—plenty of options and everything was delicious! A big shoutout to Thiri from Asraq, who gave us excellent service, along with the entire restaurant staff, who were always attentive and kind. We stayed active and had a blast trying out all the activities: zipline, giant swing, billiards, bowling, swimming at the beach, and relaxing by the pool. Special thanks to Ramil from Anantara Spa for a great spa experience, and to Swati and Lalyn at reception for assisting us so smoothly throughout our stay. Also, Guru was fantastic and made us feel right at home. Highly recommend Banana Island for a relaxing and fun getaway. We’ll definitely be back!

The day trip was amazing and so full of excitement that we didn't feel the time passing and suddenly it was time to catch the return boat. The family adventure park offer is great value. You can access adventure park, beach and swimming pool. The adventure park has decent variety. The Zipline is awesome. Beach has crystal clear waters. Do not forget to take pics on the swing in the sea. The kids pool and main pool are in different area. Kids pool has slides also. The main pool has both hot and cold jacuzzi. Various food options on the island. There are many other activities like surfing and bowling at additional payment. The boat ride itself is quite enjoyable. The valet is so efficient. The car is ready at the door when you return. Overall this family adventure park package is great value for money.

I originally left a one-star review because I had trouble getting a response when I first tried to book. I later deleted that review because once they did get back to me and I finally booked, the experience completely changed my mind. From the moment I arrived, everything exceeded my expectations. Everyone was so friendly, accommodating, and welcoming. I loved every part of my stay and kept thinking about when I could come back next. The adventure park was incredible, and the zip line was definitely the highlight of my trip. Our butler was wonderful, attentive, and really made our experience extra special. The only small negative I can mention is that guests aren’t allowed to bring their own food, which would be nice to have as an option. Other than that, everything was perfect. I can’t wait to return very, very soon!

Amazing experience at Banana Island Qatar! Had a day trip booked with family. Right from the moment booking at reception on the port to the end of the trip, the experience and time spent was worth every penny. The staff are welcoming and very helpful, Guru was one we met at the end of the trip waiting for the boat back. He offered us Arabic coffee and dates which was lovely and refreshing! I would definitely recommend visiting if you ever visit Qatar. Amazing views and not enough words to describe 😆 We got the 8pm boat back, the winds had picked up a little so the ride was a little rough. Crew member Sarah was absolutely brilliant she checked on everyone and explained what was happening. I was feeling a little sea sick so she bought me a cotton ball with eucalyptus oil and said to smell it as it helps for sickness. I never knew that lol and it actually worked 😄. So a big thank you to Sarah! X

Our stay at Banana Island Resort was truly exceptional from the moment we arrived at the port terminal until the end of our visit. The hospitality was outstanding—everyone was welcoming and eager to help with anything we needed, which made the entire experience feel so special. The food was excellent. At Azraq Restaurant, breakfast was a highlight: from the team member who kindly walked us through the buffet, to the attentive staff who frequently checked on us at the table, everything was handled with warmth and care. The fresh juices were a perfect start to the day. Dinner at Riva Restaurant was another memorable experience with delicious dishes and amazing staff who made the evening even more enjoyable. The resort itself is beautiful. The beach was spotless, with clear and calm water, perfect for relaxing. The kids’ swimming pool is thoughtfully designed for different ages, which makes it great for families. Though I didn’t get the chance to fully explore the Adventure Park due to a short one-night stay, it looked very inviting—I’m hoping to enjoy it more on my next visit. The buggy service was excellent, always arriving almost instantly after calling, which made getting around the island effortless. I would like to give special thanks to Ghani at the island reception for his warm welcome and genuine care—he truly set the tone for our stay. Also, a heartfelt thank you to Catherine at the Anantara Spa, whose massage was both relaxing and revitalizing. The spa itself was spotless, beautifully arranged, and had a calming atmosphere. As a family, this is a wonderful resort where every member can find something to enjoy—from kids to adults—making it a perfect destination for quality family time. Overall, Banana Island Resort delivers a perfect mix of luxury, comfort, and heartfelt service. I only wish I had stayed longer, and I can’t wait to return for another visit soon.

My husband and I have travelled to a few destinations during our 9 years of marriage and have been lucky enough to stay in fair few luxury resorts. This was our first holiday with our little boy and quite honestly this has to be up there as one of the best places we have ever stayed. The service has been amazing throughout and the staff couldn’t have done more for us. They have truly made the stay so pleasant. |We visited Q lounge on the first night and the staff were so helpful throughout the meal and the service was second to none. This gave us high hopes for the rest of our stay. We are at Riva and Al Nahham for the second and third nights and once again the staff did amazingly. They engaged really well with our little boy and made the experience so lovely for us. The staff at breakfast were also great. |We would highly recommend this place for anyone thinking to visit the island. |Service aside, there is so much to do despite it being an island. It is a great place for kids of all ages. |The only slight disappointment would be that the gym was undergoing maintenance during our stay so we were unable to use the facilities but there was plenty of other things to do so not a huge deal. I would like to also call out the amazing spa - I opted for a hammam for my first treatment and enjoyed so much I came back the next day for a facial and massage. Both were great and made me feel super relaxed. |We would definitely consider returning to this resort in the future and hope to see you all again. Keep up the amazing service, it really makes this place what it is and sets you apart from others.

Perfect 3 day stay. The suite was spacious, well-equipped, and ideal for our family. My daughter spent all her time in the lagoon pool and absolutely loved it. The restaurants were good, the Italian was our favourite, followed by the Arabic. My wife and I really enjoyed cycling around the island. Was a great way to burn some calories before over indulging at the next meal. We had an early morning flight and the hotel kindly packed breakfast boxes for us, which we enjoyed on the 4am luxury ferry back to the mainland, a thoughtful touch. Would definitely stay again.
