12 Best Hotels in Doha, From Wellness Resorts to Historic Guesthouses

"Banana Island is a crescent-shaped island, just a 20 minute private catamaran ride off the coast of Doha. Inspired by a traditional Arabian village on a deserted island, Banana Island Resort is for those wanting to temporarily escape ordinary life. With overwater villas, a spectacular lagoon, onsite wellness center, and array of other entertainment options, there’s no reason to ever leave. While each room is complemented with a private balcony overlooking either the beach, pool or sea, it’s the overwater villas that steal the show. With their own infinity pools, shaded balcony with reclined sun lounges, curved bathtubs in the middle of the spacious bathrooms, and Egyptian cotton sheets on the plush King sized beds, they’re hard to resist. This place is as much for families as it is for honeymooning couples. There is a playground for children, a kids water park, bowling alley, mini golf, and a host of water sports to get the whole family involved. The resort also offers special kids programs, including cooking classes, yoga, and beauty parties." - Jenna Scatena

Banana Island Resort Doha by Anantara — Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"Why book? Inspired by a traditional Arabian village on a deserted island, Banana Island Resort is for those wanting to temporarily escape ordinary life. With overwater villas, a spectacular lagoon, onsite wellness center, and array of other entertainment options, there’s no reason to ever leave. Set the scene With palm-tree lined walkways, fragrant gardens, a calming lagoon and multiple seaside dining locations, the resort embodies tropical paradise. The architecture pays homage to the local culture, with traditional pitched thatch roofs, white washed stone walls, and Arabian patterned tiles and carvings throughout. With an endless view of turquoise waters, it’s relaxation in the finest Middle Eastern style. The backstory Banana Island is a crescent-shaped island, just a 20 minute private catamaran ride off the coast of Doha. What was once a local fishing island, was transformed into a private retreat for travelers from around the world by Thailand-based Anantara. The incredible reef and sandy beaches around the island were once a local secret but can now be shared with everyone. The resort also lays claim to offer Qatar’s only Maldives-inspired overwater bungalows and villas. The rooms There are over 140 sea view rooms, suites and villas. Food and drink Get lost in the flavors of the world at one of the various dining experiences at the resort. They offer refined Indian, retro American diner-style meals, mezze platters, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. Whether in one of the Bedouin-style tents, at a poolside lounge or table for two on the floating deck, the settings are just as irresistible as the food itself. The spa As one of the few wellness resorts in Doha, the spa draws inspiration from the natural surroundings of the island, with water features weaved throughout natural greenery. It features an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam rooms and an extensive menu of treatments, using the latest technologies and philosophies in skin care and body relaxation. The neighborhood/area Situated on a naturally curved island off the coast of Qatar, the resort is a secluded paradise away from the city of Doha. Yet, there’s plenty of things to keep you busy. There is a private beach where guests can take advantage of the resort's water sports and other activities. The service The staff are well-known for taking care of the little things, from unpacking your luggage to turndown service, it’s all in the details. What really sets the tone for a stay though is the island welcome, a cheerful greeting as you step off the boat with drummers and trays of cold drinks. It’s a genuinely welcoming environment. For families The Banana Island Resort is as much for families as it is for honeymooning couples. There is a playground for children, a kids water park, bowling alley, mini golf, and a host of water sports to get the whole family involved. The resort also offers special kids programs, including cooking classes, yoga, and beauty parties. Eco effort As part of the bigger Anantara brand, there is a solid commitment to sustainability. They aim to reduce energy consumption every year by 10 percent, recycle as much as they can, and minimize water consumption throughout the hotel. Accessibility The resort has been designed to be fully accessible for guests with disabilities, with Braille signage, wheelchair-accessible public areas and rooms with adjusted heights for beds, toilets and shower facilities. Anything left to mention? There are endless activities and entertainment options available, including indoor cinema, nine-hole putting course, fitness center, tennis court, surf pool, kayaking, fishing trips, diving, water skiing, and jet skiing." - Jenna Scatena

I had an absolutely fantastic stay at Anantara Banana Island. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The location is simply breathtaking — a true island paradise just minutes from Doha. The service was outstanding: warm, attentive, and professional. Every staff member went out of their way to make our stay unforgettable. We stayed in a water villa, and it was like a dream. Waking up to the ocean, the private pool, the stunning design — pure luxury and tranquility. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a magical escape. I can’t wait to come back!

Enjoyed the food and pool area. Zip wire was exciting. Hadn’t used all of the credits as time had run out but Guru from reception delayed our outbound boat and managed to get some bowling games. Great experience.

I had a day pass to Banana Island and it was a beautiful experience. The hospitality and customer service from all workers was amazing. The person who stood out the most was Guru. His hospitality skills and communication skills were phenomenal. Guru was very nice and made us feel comfortable. Guru gave us lots of suggestions of activities to do at the island as well as the city. Guru is a top guy. Overall experience at the island has been beautiful 10/10 for everything.

Honestly, I’m shocked at how poor the experience was at Banana Island. We paid a huge amount expecting a luxury stay, but what we got was the opposite. The service was ridiculously slow — we waited over 40 minutes just for a golf cart multiple times. And one of the staff even had the nerve to be rude to us when we politely asked for help. Completely unacceptable. For the price of these villas, we expected 5-star treatment — instead, we were stressed the whole time. The food was average at best, definitely not worth the cost. The bowling alley kept having issues, and one of our rooms had terrible AC. Nothing about this stay felt relaxing or premium. Yes, a few staff were sweet — like Guru, Othman, and the teams at Ted’s Diner and the Italian restaurant — but that’s not enough to make up for everything else. Banana Island seriously needs change. Right now, it’s just overpriced and poorly managed.

It was an absolute pleasure to stay here – truly a memorable experience. The resort was breathtakingly beautiful, with every detail thoughtfully designed to create a sense of luxury and tranquility. The level of service exceeded all expectations; every staff member was warm, attentive, and genuinely dedicated to making our stay exceptional. I’ve never experienced such seamless hospitality. Thank you too Arman - for your service and taking care of us.

Extremely Unprofessional – A Complete Disappointment My experience at Banana Island Resort was deeply frustrating and far from the luxury they claim to offer. At 9:30 AM, I requested a buggy to take me and my two young children to breakfast, which was closing at 10:00 AM. Despite several follow-ups, no one showed up. By 9:55 AM, we were still waiting, so I had no choice but to walk under the intense sun, in extreme heat, dragging two kids across the resort. Absolutely unacceptable. On the way, I saw a buggy driver and asked him for help. He refused to take us. When I asked for his name to report the incident, he just drove off and left us standing. That behavior is not just unprofessional – it’s insulting. I went straight to the reception to complain, and all they did was hand me a number and told me to call for a buggy myself. I called – no one answered. After all that, they still expected me, the guest, to chase them down for basic service. No apology, no follow-up, no compensation. Just complete disregard for the guest experience. For the price I paid, I expected comfort, care, and real hospitality. Instead, I got ignored, disrespected, and left walking in the heat like I didn’t matter. Luxury should mean more than just pretty views – it’s about how guests are treated. And here, that treatment was a total failure. I would absolutely not recommend this resort to families or anyone expecting proper service. Save your money and go somewhere that actually values its guests.
