"Why book? Inspired by a traditional Arabian village on a deserted island, Banana Island Resort is for those wanting to temporarily escape ordinary life. With overwater villas, a spectacular lagoon, onsite wellness center, and array of other entertainment options, there’s no reason to ever leave. Set the scene With palm-tree lined walkways, fragrant gardens, a calming lagoon and multiple seaside dining locations, the resort embodies tropical paradise. The architecture pays homage to the local culture, with traditional pitched thatch roofs, white washed stone walls, and Arabian patterned tiles and carvings throughout. With an endless view of turquoise waters, it’s relaxation in the finest Middle Eastern style. The backstory Banana Island is a crescent-shaped island, just a 20 minute private catamaran ride off the coast of Doha. What was once a local fishing island, was transformed into a private retreat for travelers from around the world by Thailand-based Anantara. The incredible reef and sandy beaches around the island were once a local secret but can now be shared with everyone. The resort also lays claim to offer Qatar’s only Maldives-inspired overwater bungalows and villas. The rooms There are over 140 sea view rooms, suites and villas. While each room is complemented with a private balcony overlooking either the beach, pool or sea, it’s the overwater villas that steal the show. With their own infinity pools, shaded balcony with reclined sun lounges, curved bathtubs in the middle of the spacious bathrooms, and Egyptian cotton sheets on the plush King sized beds, they’re hard to resist. Food and drink Get lost in the flavors of the world at one of the various dining experiences at the resort. They offer refined Indian, retro American diner-style meals, mezze platters, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern cuisine. Whether in one of the Bedouin-style tents, at a poolside lounge or table for two on the floating deck, the settings are just as irresistible as the food itself. The spa As one of the few wellness resorts in Doha, the spa draws inspiration from the natural surroundings of the island, with water features weaved throughout natural greenery. It features an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam rooms and an extensive menu of treatments, using the latest technologies and philosophies in skin care and body relaxation. The neighborhood/area Situated on a naturally curved island off the coast of Qatar, the resort is a secluded paradise away from the city of Doha. Yet, there’s plenty of things to keep you busy. There is a private beach where guests can take advantage of the resort's water sports and other activities. The service The staff are well-known for taking care of the little things, from unpacking your luggage to turndown service, it’s all in the details. What really sets the tone for a stay though is the island welcome, a cheerful greeting as you step off the boat with drummers and trays of cold drinks. It’s a genuinely welcoming environment. For families The Banana Island Resort is as much for families as it is for honeymooning couples. There is a playground for children, a kids water park, bowling alley, mini golf, and a host of water sports to get the whole family involved. The resort also offers special kids programs, including cooking classes, yoga, and beauty parties. Eco effort As part of the bigger Anantara brand, there is a solid commitment to sustainability. They aim to reduce energy consumption every year by 10 percent, recycle as much as they can, and minimize water consumption throughout the hotel. Accessibility The resort has been designed to be fully accessible for guests with disabilities, with Braille signage, wheelchair-accessible public areas and rooms with adjusted heights for beds, toilets and shower facilities. Anything left to mention? There are endless activities and entertainment options available, including indoor cinema, nine-hole putting course, fitness center, tennis court, surf pool, kayaking, fishing trips, diving, water skiing, and jet skiing." - Jenna Scatena
