"Some 20 years ago, this spot was voted the best Thai in Dallas. And it still is way up there. All the classic dishes, including mango chicken, panang, pad thai, and various Thai curries, are here, as are Thai coffee, hot pots, and fried desserts — ice cream, cheesecake, and bananas. It’s a go-to Thai spot." - Courtney E. Smith

I have traveled to more than 67 countries around the globe, and this is legitimately one of the best restaurants that I frequently visit! The food is phenomenal! The staff is super friendly and incredible! And just that good old fashion hospitality makes me always want to come back! Weather is just for a night out with your spouse or date, or a big party with friends and family, this is a great place! Even when we use the delivery service, the food is still phenomenal!

If you want a dine in location with excellent food with consistent quality, Banana Leaf is IT. You’ll get great tasting food, along with excellent service. Been frequenting for the past 7 years!! Don’t forget to finish with one or more of the fabulous desserts!

We met here for a family dinner. Tje food is I credible. We each ordered something different so we could try everything. We started with the Banana Leaf sampler and the fresh shrimp spring rolls, which had a little taste of some of the greats like fried dumplings, spri g rolls, chicken satay, corn patties, and more. We ordered and loved the Cashew Delight, Chicken Pad Kapow, Pad Thai, Yellow Curry, Waterfal Beef, and Pad See Iew. Each dish had a unique, delicious sauce. The noodles or rice were different in each of our orders, but it complemented the dish perfectly. The portion is Texas size, just like the hospitality of the staff. Steve and his son came by to say hello and to make sure we were connected. We were hoping to try some of the tempting desserts, but we are saving that for next time we go! Loved it that much!

I love finding home felt gems in a restaurant. From the time I arrived until the moment I left I felt very welcomed. This was my first time experiencing this location and I’ll say 10’s across the board. Today I had the fish in Thai herbs and wowowowow!! I’ll definitely spread the word on this place and I’ll be back to try something new. Also they do have a rewards program so sign up because you’ll definitely be back for more. Thanks to Steve, his family and staff for being kind to everyone who steps foot in this establishment.

I recently dined at Banana Leaf on my birthday with my family, it was an exceptional experience! The vibrant atmosphere, attentive staff, and, most importantly, the delicious Thai cuisine made it a five-star dining adventure. Each dish showcased authentic flavors, and the menu offered a wide variety to satisfy any palate. I highly recommend this restaurant for a delightful taste of Thailand. Loved homemade Mango Icecream. Thank you we will come again.😊

Google
My sister-in-law recommended this spot for Thai dishes that go beyond American Thai food staples. We liked that they have a specials menu and board, and my partner and I both ordered from that menu. She had the roasted duck basil noodle dish and I had the Hung Lay pork curry. We started with the Banana Leaf sampler. Our table guests ordered pad kapow and pad see iew. We ordered level five spicy, their hottest, but we still needed chili oil and pepper flakes. The flavors were great though. The pork was super tender and the curry so hearty and savory. The kitchen did well on everything. Service was great and our waiter did try to find us hotter peppers and sauces. I would definitely go back.

Google
The food here was pretty decent. It tasted good, the portion was good, it's seasoned so it's not bland but flavors are not strong, not enough fish sauce! The only issue I had with the food is that every dish had a sweet undertone to it like they put too much sugar in everything. I'm talking the spring rolls, the soup, the noodle dishes. Spicy is also a joke here. Level 4 spicy noodle dish had barely any spiciness to it. Level 5 tom kha soup a slight tingle. I like the spiciness to be cooked into the dish rather than added after, it incorporatea better. So based on the sweetness of dishes and the level 5 spicy being almost nothing, I'd say this is more American Thai food like how American Chinese food is different. The service was alright, Water was constantly refilled which was great, had no issues there. The issue only came after the meal. I ordered sticky mango rice to go so I can take and enjoy at home but the sever forgot it twice. First, server forgot to add to the check and then it got placed in the to-go pile so was sitting around for longer than necessary and server forgot we were waiting for it. Not a horrible experience but room for improvement. Either way, place is good enough.

Google
This has been our go-to Thai restaurant for almost 20 years. The food is excellent and the service is stellar. The specials are creative and delicious - try them! This family-owned restaurant is a gem.

Yelp
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Banana Leaf restaurant with a large group of 10, and I must say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The restaurant itself is lovely, with ample seating that comfortably accommodated our group. The service was outstanding - friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. We were promptly seated and our orders were taken efficiently. For starters, we tried the tofu appetizer, which was a delightful surprise. The tofu had a perfect crunchiness to it and was beautifully complemented by the flavorful peanut sauce. It was a hit with everyone at the table. As for the main course, I opted for the pad see ew with chicken, and it exceeded my expectations. The noodles were cooked to perfection - delicate yet flavorful, with just the right balance of sweetness and savory notes. The chicken was tender and cooked impeccably, adding a delicious protein element to the dish. Overall, my experience at Banana Leaf was fantastic. The combination of great ambiance, friendly service, and delicious food makes it a standout Thai restaurant in the area. I highly recommend Banana Leaf to anyone looking for an authentic and enjoyable Thai dining experience.

Yelp
Fantastic local Thai food -- i'm so happy they are in our area. The pad Thai and the Tom Yum hit the spot. We ordered from them a lot during the pandemic and I'm happy to see they're still here! Give them a try and give them your business! I will say that even ordering out or getting it delivered it holds up and is very yummy!

Arielle V.

Yelp
Great Thai spot! My husband and I went here on a Thursday night around 7pm and we were seated quickly. There were a good amount of people in the restaurant but not too crowded. The inside of the restaurant looked nice and was decorated heavily for Valentine's. Our server was friendly and attentive, bringing our drinks quickly and taking our orders when we were ready. We ordered the chicken pad Thai and Khow Soy, both of which were yummy! Portion size was also great, we had some leftovers for later. Will definitely make it back out here again some time!

Sameet R.

Yelp
We love this place. Food is perfectly spiced and everything is fresh. My husband loved the chefs special basil fried salmon and I enjoyed my pad kee mow and yellow curry fried rice. Highly recommend,

Chantel W.

Yelp
We went here for a family dinner. It was hot inside. I guess the ac went out. It's a nice quaint little spot. The waitress was nice and then we had a waiter who was very hyper but overall good. We ordered the spring rolls, chicken satay, lettuce wraps for appetizers...dinner was the mango salmon, cashew delight, steak w/herb,panaag chicken curry...overall all the food was delicious and fresh and tasty. Dessert was the taro ice cream and the fried cheesecake which wasn't actually cheesecake but it was the filling. Overall good spot for food.

Chastity W.

Yelp
Very friendly service. Ordered to go food came fast. Ordered black garlic chicken. Overall good flavor and taste.

Yelp
Pad See Eiw with Chicken, Green Curry with Tofu This place is great as usual! The pad see eiw noodle is awesome (not the absolute best in town imo, but such a great one). The green curry was phenomenal, tasted perfectly spicy and flavorful and full of veggies. Fantastic

Tressette S.

Yelp
Great, light, Thai food! This establishment has it. We ventured in late at night after passing by so many times. It was still packed and they still wanted to accommodate my crew. The chef created me a meal not listed on the menu because I so enjoy extra spicy, light meals with lots of veggies and chicken or shrimp. She did beyond what I imagined! The appetizer we chose was shrimp rolls. My son had beef and broccoli and another order of sweet and sour chicken with mango chunks. This is an awesome place to visit for lunch or dinner. They have a bar that was closed because we came kinda late. I really liked the fact that the server asked a family to calm their child from disturbing the other guests. I will be coming back again of course sooner next time.

Mark D.

Yelp
A friend who works nearby this restaurant had been saying great things about it so we met up for lunch one day and he was absolutely right. The food, service, and prices were all excellent. After a few weeks, my wife and I had lunch here and everything was great again. We ordered the pad see ew with chicken and the pad thai with shrimp. Both entrees came with a side salad and a bowl of soup as part of the lunch special. The side salad was simple, fresh, and good. The dressing could've been a tad less sweet but was good nevertheless. The soup had a nice clean broth and plenty of veggies. Both noodle dishes were excellent and flavorful but I would have to give the nod to the pad kee mao dish since the chewy fresh noodles are harder to come by in Thai restaurants. Both dishes were nicely prepared (both the flavor and the presentation), and the portion was generous. The $2 upcharge for the shrimp was well worth it since they were large and plentiful. Karthik did a great job on the service. He was pleasant and attentive. The restaurant has many tables and booths of various sizes so it's a good place for both small and large groups. Even though it's a bit of a distance from where I live, I will make the drive for this place whenever I'm in the mood for some Thai food, which is pretty often.

Lily Q.

Yelp
Pleasantly surprised by this place! The food was very well priced and well flavored. The ambiance is nice as well and the lunch specials come with a salad and soup. I ordered the cashew stir fry and thought it was delicious. Like most Thai places, you can add a spice level to your dish. I went for a 4 out of 5 (spicy level) and survived so that's an additional plus for me.

Peggy W.

Yelp
This place is amazing! Food is sooo delicious. Flavors I haven't found at any other Thai restaurant. I eat at different Thai restaurant all over the Richardson, Plano area and this is the best. Please come see for yourself. The Fish Kapow is like nothing you have ever had. Incredible!!

Yelp
After having passed by Banana Leaf for the past 22 years of living approximately 7.5 miles away from here, we (my Mom and I) finally decided to stop in and have a meal. My only regret is that we didn't come here sooner. Hands down, the best Thai Food we have ever had. A truly authentic culinary experience. A small, intimate and aesthetically pleasing space with beautiful and inviting energy. Ariana was our server. Upon entering, she greeted us promptly with a smile, then seated and handed us menus. She was very patient with us as we were first time visitors. Not once during our meal did we ever feel rushed or like we had to vacate the table for turnover. We started things off with unsweetened ice teas. Cool and refreshing even though the blazing hot Texas temperatures are beginning to wind down. Our meals came with a soup and salad with peanut sauce. Today's soup was cucumber with tofu. Simple yet elegant - almost like silk. The broth was flavorful as well and was the perfect accompaniment to our appetizer. We ordered the Thai fresh chicken spring rolls which were generously filled - the ratio of chicken to veggies was perfect. The combination and balance achieved a perfect bite. The flavor profile of the peanut sauce was something we both particularly enjoyed. It wasn't too heavy nor did it linger on the palate. For our entrées, Mom ordered the green chicken curry(not pictured) and I ordered the glass noodle pad thai. It is clear that this establishment is indeed authentic for the simple reason that both dishes were excellent, beautifully executed, and accurate in every detail right down to the flavor and spice level(we both ordered a 2 on the 5 scale). The portions are both generous and reasonable for the price and for two (or perhaps more) people to share. For dessert, Mom ordered the mango ice cream and I ordered the green tea ice cream. It was absolutely divine. The earthiness of the green tea with a creamy/icy consistency and a hint of sweetness left me wanting more. Mom said she enjoyed hers as well. I understand that Banana Leaf has been conducting business for the past 36 years, and there is a reason- it absolutely reflects the owner's passion, commitment, and adherence to high standards of food, service, and ambiance. Wanted to meet the owner since I have heard others speak highly of him, but the servers mentioned that he was out doing a catering order, so perhaps on our next visit. We will be back!

Liz G.

Yelp
I saw this place listed as one of the most underrated restaurants in Dallas and have passed by it for years without ever stopping in. What a treat! Service was top-notch, and we loved the feel of the dining area. It's cozy without being stuffy. We got a couple of appetizers - corn parties and the fried spring rolls. I really enjoyed the spring rolls but the corn pasties were not my favorite version of them. They were more like flat hushpuppies. Tasty, but not what I would have preferred. Hubby got the Red Curry with shrimp and I got the Pad Thai with tofu. Their tofu was extra firm and cut into perfectly bite-sized portions. I always ask for a side of peanut sauce and their's was different - thicker than most I've had - but I loved it. I'll definitely put this on the rotation!

Alex B.

Yelp
So excited to have found this spot! The lunch special was a great price ($12) for a large plate of fried rice and a small salad. This price includes splitting the cost of the spring rolls. The service was really great. Would happily be back!

May M.

Yelp
Food was very good. Great service and quiet surrounding . Traditional atmosphere but surprisingly very untraditional music. The music caterers to all. The owner is full of energy, stories and smiles. Very nice place.

David M.

Yelp
Excellent and low prices. Doesn't get any better than this. Highly recommended lunch or dinner. Best food on Preston Road.

Shoba S.

Yelp
Loved our dinner at Banana Leaf Thai Cuisine yesterday. The star of the night was obviously rhe Basil noodle / 5 stars on it! Pad thai was good, fresh spring roll was yummy and fried ice cream was terrific! Have given a 4 star as the Cashew delight was pretty insipid and flavorless. Although I had requested the waitress to remove snap peas she did not :( Great sized portions!

Thu N.

Yelp
Banana Leaf has the best pad thai. My husband orders it and I would always take a BIG bite. Their spicy herb soup is good too. However, when it comes to healthy choice, i.e., the shrimp noodle salad is lacking. It's basically sweet fish sauce, boiled shrimp, tons of glass noodle over iceberg. Very lacking. I used to order their seafood salad, but they do not serve it anymore. Only shrimp and fish. I do not believe I will be back.

Brian L.

Yelp
This restaurant is my go to spot for Thai food. Everything from food to service is amazing. The restaurant has plenty of seating and is clean. The appetizers were the only place that wasn't a huge hit for me. They were good but nothing exceptional. Fish cakes came with a red curry sauce but it was more of a clear vinaigrette with onions in it. The cream cheese roll was pretty much crab rangoons but still good. I got the Jungle curry shrimp at level 3 spice and it wasn't overwhelming spicy. Shrimp was fried well and delicious. Veggies complimented the sauce well. The mango sticky rice is a must get. The rice was warm and sweet with the condensed milk. Mangos added the perfect balance to the dessert.

Rachel J.

Yelp
It's been a while since I last visited this restaurant, but this time I opted for takeout. We were greeted by a very friendly owner. I ordered the Beef Pad See Ew priced at $16, which was incredibly savory. Too much for my taste. The portion was also standard for the price. I would probably go again but order something else.

Daniel N.

Yelp
Banana Leaf is the best authentic Thai restaurant in the Metroplex. The owners are super hosts, they treat you like family and can give you a recommendation if you don't know what to order. Honestly I can't find anything on the menu that isn't outstanding. You can also BYOB which makes it very attractive as you can enjoy a beverage of your choice with this exquisite cuisine. Don't take my word for it go try it out yourself it will be the last Thai restaurant that you we go to! Thank you Cathy and Steve ! Their son has started to manage the restaurant which ensures that they will be around for a long time !

Lily F.

Yelp
I've been meaning to come here for awhile and finally decided to get some items to go over the weekend. We ordered pad thai, basil pork, red curry and spring rolls. Everything was packed nicely and was still boiling hot when we received it. Other than the curry and the pad thai being a tad (small tad) sweet for me, I really enjoyed everything and would definitely come back. Everything was fresh and the correct flavors were all there. I also ordered the spiciest for the pad thai and the curry and the heat was there, but it wasn't bad at.

T T.

Yelp
Good food Attentive service & nice ambiance 3 spice level perfect & not too hot, Lunch comes either a small salad & soup. Good pricing Will return

Kylee L.

Yelp
We have enjoyed dining at the Banana Leaf for at least the last 12 years! It's especially great for lunch... they have excellent prices and large portions. The lunch comes with soup and salad too! My favorite dish is the pad plik king but all of their entrees have been very flavorful and consistently well prepared.

Heath G.

Yelp
Great food- also good for catering. Service is great. We went there as a family and we all agreed it was one of the best restaraunts we had ever been to. The environment was amazing and really made you feel comfortable and cozy. Banana Leaf was one of the best experiences ever.

Geoffrey A.

Yelp
Green curry, tom nam, and pad kee mow was all great. The waitress was very helpful and friendly, and seemed to love their food. People who seemed to own the restaurant greeted tables in a way that was very comfortable (I usually don't care for greetings from owners and managers).

Shelley F.

Yelp
My friend and I had lunch here! We had complimentary soup and salad, which were both delicious. I ordered the Pad Thai. Service was fast, price was very fair, and portion size is generous. I got a combination of meats, all which were flavorful and tender. Out of the Thai restaurants I've been to so far, this is one of the better Pad Thai dishes that I've tried!

Kathi S.

Yelp
Had lunch here the other day with my daughter. We love the veggie spring rolls. We both enjoyed our tofu entrees. We forgot that a small side salad and bowl of soup comes with the lunch...I have enough leftovers to feed my husband dinner;)). The service is always top notch. The atmosphere is calm and warming.

Sheila G.

Yelp
The food is AMAZING!! We love their curbside pickup option and have done that the past couple of times we have been there.

Lucy M.

Yelp
Stopped by Banana Leaf for lunch with my coworkers the other day and had a great time! All the food comes out piping hot and freshly cooked, and the portion sizes are extremely generous. Love the complementary salad with peanut dressing and the tofu soup that's served with the lunch menu here, and the spring rolls with shrimp were super refreshing. For my entree, I ordered the pad see ew with tofu at a level 3 spice and it had a good kick, but was a little too salty for me. However, the noodles have great chew and I liked how crispy the tofu was. I was also able to pack half of it to go for a meal on another day, so the meal is great value for the cost. Others in my party also ordered rice dishes which looked very generous and delicious as well. I was too full to try the mango sticky rice this time, but maybe in the future. Looking forward to returning whenever I'm in the area and feel like Thai food!

Katie A.

Yelp
Good service the food was very sweet. Like dishes that aren't supposed to be sweet. The only reason we went is because Thai Star is closed on Sunday. Wont go back.

Abbey B.

Yelp
In one word OUTSTANDING. I have used Banana Leaf on multiple occasions for work catering. The owner, Steve, knows everyone around DFW and what they like. He helps with menu planning, delivery, and ensuring quality. I have never been disappointed. His customer service and the wonderful food are what keep me coming back If you like some spice and seafood the Jungle Shrimp is a MUST!

U S.

Yelp
I took my daughter after the first good experience we had a week or so ago. I am only writing the review so we improve customer experience. We ordered the same two dishes again. Thai egg plant and chicken basil. We requested spice level 5. We did not know we're in for disappointment. We called the owner and told him that the 1. eggplant was less than half cooked 2. thai chicken basil fish was fine 2. both dishes were only spice level 1 while we ordered level 5. The owner was polite. He heard us. kitchen was closed so nothing much could be done. We drove back 15 miles disappointed. He took out the price of the egg-plant , we appreciate. Till today we are disappointed. It took us 3-4 days to write this review. I think we are done with Thai food for a month or so. It's one of our favorite cuisine. We will wait till we are ready again Needless to mention, staff was friendly especially the server. It was no fault of hers

Matthew V.

Yelp
We used to order takeout from banana leaf The last two times were not appetizing Like entrees are scooped from the same steam tray then a different sauce is splashed on one or two depending on what it's supposed to be

Dexter G.

Yelp
Always friendly staff and delicious entrees. You can go from 0 to 5 on how spicy/heat you prefer.

Brandon B.

Yelp
awesome food!! Very quick delivery and it was still hot!! We have been eating here for many years and it is the only Thai food we will eat!! T

Sharmeen J.

Yelp
Great and friendly place. We love it. It is always fresh and their deliver. A must try

Rebecca T.

Yelp
Favorite place to eat. Staff friendly and attentive. They even know what we typically order and ask if we want our usual when we first get there. It is always perfect.

Eli Y.

Yelp
The food is amazing, I got the pad see ew and it's very delicious, great customer service and very friendly and sweet staff. I literally live down street and every time I crave Thai food I order from here . Never disappoint.

Angela T.

Yelp
We went on a Saturday night, and it was packed with basically all seats filled. The staff was very kind and patient, and the food was delicious. I enjoy and prefer spicy foods, and the spice level I ordered (3) based off their recommendation, was not very spicy. I didn't mind as I'm sure they prefer to be conservative with spice level recommendations just in case.

Del H.

Yelp
Amazing dining experience. Professional and such yummy cuisine. Yes I took pics but they are in my phone not here. But trust me, the Pad Ke Mow noodles melted in my mouth they are so fresh. They added cashews for me and took off the bell peppers just like I asked. Perfection! The owner, Steve is an awesome guy who is originally from Louisiana but he is Thai! I'm from there also so we had a great visit! Funny as hell, but his patrons are #1! Everyone there comes by the table even if you are dining alone. They are so warm and caring and truly friendly it is like eating at their home, but its on Preston Road, North Dallas! All I can say is WOW! GO GO GO BANANA LEAF THAI CUISINE! 34 Years of incredible original mmmmmm perfect spicy Thai!! Ambiance is perfect. Busy, but private, friendly but comfortable, and well they just have a great place! Don't miss it!

Jannifer K.

Yelp
I visited Banana Leaf today and was blown away by every aspect of this place. It's cozy, the food is *delicious* and the service is top notch. I ordered the green curry with tofu and noodles while my friend ordered the Cajun rice, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals...I think I even wiped my plate clean because my meal was that tasty. The entres came with soup and salad, and were reasonably priced at around $10 each per meal. It was an especially memorable experience because the chef even came out at one point to ask what we thought of our meals, which I thought was really sweet. What a lovely place to come for lunch. I'd highly recommend checking it out!!

Cindy M.

Yelp
This review is for food only. I had it delivered. This is also for taste only. I don't care about packaging/presentation. I had quite a bit of food since it was on my company's dime, so I tried a lot. 1-Salad with peanut dressing: the lettuce was fresh and crunchy the dressing was very disappointing it was so thinned out there was not much taste. 2-Corn Patties: OMG awful. I have not had this anywhere before so I have nothing to go on but I just didn't like it. 3-Fish Cales: Not good. Very rubbery no taste. 4-Herb Soup: Excellent I loved all the herby flavor. Get this. 5-Fish with Thai Herbs: Very good. I guess I like herbs. This had a lot of flavor and I loved the crunchy bits on top of the fish. 6-Thai Crispy Spring Rolls: These were fine, nothing special but not bad. 7-Fresh Spring Rolls with Shrimp: The rolls were just ok, it's the sauce that usually gives these good taste, the peanut sauce was the same as the dressing on the salad which was thin as in runny and tasteless. So the rolls were mediocre. 8-Mango Sticky Rice: Usually my absolute favorite Thai dessert. This would have been good except the sauce it comes with was such a small portion and again thin and runny there was nothing to bring together the rice and mango. I was very disappointed.

Lauren R.

Yelp
This place has amazing food. I had the crispy green curry duck and I couldn't have been happier! The service was great and I believe everyone in my group was happy. While you are there definitely try the sticky rice and mango.

Rahul S.

Yelp
This was perhaps the best thai food i ever had. The flavor was amazing - the quality was great. I must also point out that their service is amazing. Very well family run business - working to ensure guests are satisfied and quality is maintained. Keep it up guys!!!

Yong K.

Yelp
10/10, sampler taste very flavourful and the saurces are perfect! Service 10/10! We will definitely come back again!

Katherine T.

Yelp
Large portions of tasty food at a good price. Basil noodles are very good and all the fried rices are good as well. Tom Kha was good, but a little too sweet, id recommend adding less sugar. Service was great, they were quick with getting our food out and keeping water refilled. They are also BYOB.

Farheen I.

Yelp
We enjoyed our dinner here at Banana Leaf Thai. I really liked the fried fish, it had nice flavor and the veggies were a good side to the fish. It comes fried whole with the head and tail, but it is cut where you can take off filets with your fork. It was nice presentation as well, and overall worth getting if you are in the mood for something a little different. Next time, I think I'll go a little spicier than a 3, but the spice level didn't detract from the dish. The noodles were also good, pretty standard though. A cute little nostalgic Thai restaurant for sure! Hope to see the chef taking some risks with some new flavors and dishes in the future!

Melissa M.

Yelp
We found this place in the Seated app. I'm amazing! So cute, quaint, and clean! It's such a cozy little spot! The food was to die for! Delicious! They have plenty of vegan options! The dishes were large enough to take a second helping home. Loved this place!

Lillian H.

Yelp
I tried their special sea bass fillet entree with brown rice and ordered a Pad Thai to go. Both were delicious. I look forward to trying other dishes in the future! It was crowded on Friday evening but service and atmosphere were still great!
