Top Philly Summer Treats to Beat Heat Waves

"Mousse and milkshakes are on deck at this popular West Philadelphia dessert spot. Its original mousse is a crowd-pleaser made with creamy mousse and Chessman’s crackers, or you can go big with its Fruity Pebbles milkshake, which combines vanilla ice cream and multi-berry extracts, and is topped with whipped cream." - George Banks-Weston

Google
What a cute dessert spot. Friendly team who have to work really hard, but still give a smile with their service. The dessert itself if fresh and fluffy full of enough air to not be a pudding. The bananas were cut fresh right on the top and there were plenty. They have limited hours making them hard to get. Wednesday through Monday from 12pm to 8pm, but if you want a unique quick dessert and you are already in the area.... come treat yourself. It is near the Philadelphia Met so it cab be part of date night!

The service and milkshakes were amazing! Staff was so friendly

Google
Very nice experience and great customer service! Won’t be my last time coming! Treated my family very nice, most importantly the shakes were amazing!

Google
it was very good , I got the birthday cake & vanilla milkshake & it’s definitely worth your money. The one I would say that you could hold back on is the mousse bc I also got an order of that but it’s fairly small to be $7. The milkshakes are pretty big and are a cool dessert in which why I think $10 is fair.

Google
This small cup of pudding costed $8. It’s delicious but $8 is just ridiculous for a 4oz cup. Sadly this is the reality of supporting black owned businesses & their over inflated prices.

After reading negative comments on Instagram, I decided to look at google. The comments are outrageous for a business who made it through the pandemic so I had to see for myself. I wanted the mousse but it was sold out (1st disappointment) There was no menu. I was directed me to a menu on the glass. I ordered the strawberry cheesecake milkshake. I will post a picture. It was a little too thick but it was soooo good. It was amazing. The service was good and the guy who took my order was respectful. I see two young black males working and not getting into any trouble. I will be back. Y’all have to stop tearing down small businesses over the smallest details. The mother and daughter was talking to us. They are really nice and personal. . I don’t usually leave reviews but these people are nothing but high energy.

Google
AMAZING milkshakes! We tried the banana mousse shake and the fruity pebbles shake, and they did not disappoint! We didn’t realize that it’s cash only unless you order online, but we went right back to our car and ordered online, and the milkshakes were ready within 5 minutes. The girl working the counter was super friendly and helpful with the online ordering. We will definitely be back!!

Google
Like the shakes. Love the mousse even more. This location currently does not have the Sweet Potato Pie shake or mousse.

Yelp
I've been dying to try this place and always wanted to try them AFTER they closed. It's something about drinking a milkshake at 11:30 at night that really does it for me *deep sigh*. Today was finally the day that I was in the area, realized they were open and decided to give it a try. Let's just say...I'm still drinking my milkshake while I write this review (something I never do). I got the birthday cake milkshake for myself and cookies and cream for my daughter. The sweet lady who took my ordered asked me how far I was driving to determine how thick to make the shakes. I appreciate that so much because by the time I reached my parents house they were absolutely PERFECT!!! My daughter agreed that her milkshake is very good as well! The staff were super nice and I greeted when I entered/left. Which may not seem like a big deal but it was refreshing. I will definitely be returning. There is on street parking. They do accept both cash and debit/cards; however, they charge a $1.50 fee to use them. Can't wait to return later this week to try new flavors!

Yelp
Amazing milkshake! Probably the best in Philly! The owner was super sweet . Customer service was 10/10. Cant wait to go back. Fyi this is a take out only spot. Off street parking.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try banana mousse forever, but everytime I drive by there's a long line outside and I finally found out why! The menu was limited but the options were interesting ranging from peanut butter flavors , cinnamon toast crunch to cookies and cream. They sell to-go pints and sundaes, but the owner suggested I get the milkshakes since I was traveling a bit to get them home. She was really sweet, too! I ordered the cinnamon toast crunch milkshake as well as a chocolate milkshake. I'm not the biggest chocolate ice cream person (don't judge me) but theirs was pretty rich! I also did enjoy my cinnamon toast milkshake having actual cereal at the bottom. I might start randomly putting cereal in my icecream to entertain my inner child. The $10 price point was a bit "wow" but overall I'll def be supportive!

Yelp
Yum! I found this place through a friend. It's sooo good. A mix between pudding & whipped cream.

Yelp
I ordered the Cookies and Creme milkshake via DoorDash and it was delicious! The shake was thick. I also added caramel to it too. Will definitely order again!

Yelp
Thanks to yelp! I was able to discover this intresting dessert. I used the words intresting because it looks like banana pudding, however its not. Actually it doesn't contain any bananas at all. So what exactly is it, you might ask? Well to me, its like a mixture between cake batter and a mousse type pudding, nonetheless it was delicious and definitely a cute little dessert you can splurge on after dinner. The shop is a small family business owned store. The young lady at the counter was really nice and helpful. She explained that the recipe was originated by her mother, simply trying something that turned out to be delicious. The young lady then explained the different flavors that they offer, some to name are sweet potato pie, cookies and cream, strawberry and birthday cake. Banana mousse is packaged in a small container that comes with cookies already placed in the dessert. Overall its good however its way too pricey, 7.00 for dessert its outrageous for me. It would be nice if they had a little deal like a two for one which allows the consumer to try their different flavors but that's just my opinion. If your ever in the community give this unique dessert a try!

Yelp
Super overrated! Saw this place all over my Instagram feed so I decided to stop in. The owner was a complete jerk, very rude, and anti social which turned me off immediately as a fellow female entrepreneur. Nothing advertised was in stock so I was pretty much forced to choose between two flavors. I expected the mousse to at least be cold, even though I know it's not an ice cream it was just thick and hot (like mucus) sorry that's the best way I can describe it... And the location is pretty vague, no sign or anything just on a random corner in west Philly. Never again

Yelp
Drove 2 hours to try this businesses product. The pictures really stood out but once I tasted the original mousse. I was disappointed in the texture and flavor. It was more cookie crumbs than expected and nothing else. The texture was like churned butter. The Oreo milkshake did not look like the picture. The staff stated it was a cost issue that's why it wasn't decorated like the picture. The milkshake was thick and creamy with a cool wide straw. Overall the milkshake was okay but the mousse was not. But by the time I got home the mousse softened but the flavor was still poor. Maybe I will give it a second chance considering they only offered 1 flavor the day I went.

Yelp
This is a really cute place! I actually found out about it through TikTok and Instagram and decided to go over myself. It's a little deep into West Philly, and it is definitely a hole-in-the-wall type place. They serve milkshakes and mousse - both of which were pretty good! The milkshake was made fresh, and it was great (and aesthetically pleasing). The only issue we had was that one of the mousses that we ordered was a little bit frozen (I assume they were made before and put into a fridge or freezer). The birthday cake and sweet potato mousses were both great though. Service was pleasant - we walked in and ordered with a credit card, but you are also able to pre-order on their website. Good overall, and I'd probably come back!

Yelp
My daughter was so excited to see her shake and both our shakes tasted so good. I had seen the place online and made sure we went the next time we were in Philly. Just be aware that you need exact change cash right now. Or order on line, which is what we did. We will be back again!

Yelp
We ordered a banana milkshake and a birthday cake milkshake. They were huge! The flavors were perfect and the banana milkshake included plenty of chessman butter cookies. The employees were also super friendly. I'll be returning soon!

Yelp
It's a unique taste. Can't quiet put my finger on it. Purchased from Uber Eats, the price was a little steep. 7 bucks for the dessert and 5 something for the fee.

Yelp
Oh Banana Mousse, you held such promise on a hot summer night - but all I got was disappointment. The product: Mediocre at best. I went to Banana Mousse with a couple friends because I was craving dessert and it was something new. I was intrigued by the description that it is "a cross between ice cream and pudding, but taste like neither" but see the reason is - it taste like nothing. Got the chocolate flavor and my friends got birthday cake. The only actual flavor came from the cookies/cake on top. (-2 Stars) The business practices: Only two bites in to my flavorless mistake, I took a glance at the lid only to notice that the month and day of the expiration date had been crossed out with marker. To confirm what information was missing, I looked at a friend's to see his expiration date was there (28/6/19). Sickened by this and knowing they were about to close, I quickly returned to the store in search of a refund. Paying $7 for a little bucket of crap, that I'll do... but $7 for an expired bucket of crap is down right disrespectful. When I returned to speak to the manager, I explained the situation. She was well aware that this food safety transgression has taken place. (-2 Stars) The customer service: Despite this, she stated she could not issue a refund because the factory seal on the product they "make fresh daily" was broken. She suggested that if I didn't think it was fresh I throw it away. (-2 Stars) Here are all the peculiar things about her response: 1. If you are making products fresh daily, why are they factory sealed and dated in a European format? Who in Europe knew what date you were making these? 2. If you are making products fresh daily, why would the two products purchased the same time have "best used by" dates in different years? 3. If you are making products fresh daily, why wouldn't you refund a purchase made 30 minutes before closing? Wasn't it about to end up in the trash so you can make tomorrow's fresh batch of mush? 4. If you are the manager of an establishment, why would you ever be so unprofessional as to end an interaction with a customer by suggestions they throw your product away? In conclusion, there's not enough quality dessert in West Philadelphia. Banana Mousse has done nothing to change that. Realistically this establishment deserves a -1 Star rating, but in adherence with Yelp standards this is the lowest score allowed. Luckily there's a Fresh Grocer a 7 minute walk from this rubbish place, and for $7 you can more than satisfy your sweet tooth there.

Yelp
I saw this treat on Uber Eats frequently but was thought it was a little much to pay for delivery for dessert only. My coworker likes to go to Hyons next door and I randomly noticed the store and decided to try it out since it was sans delivery fees. It's honestly been a while since I've been services by such an energetic and enthusiastic and pleasant worker. The woman at the counter was absolutely fantastic and welcoming and answered all my questions I had about the product. It really is an original type of texture - definitely more mousse but much thicker. I had it both frozen and thawed and didn't have a preference - it tasted good either way! I would've given this treat 5 stars but I was originally under the impression there was banana in the original product. It was explained to me that it was removed due to issues BUT I really thought the original flavor would've been outstanding with a natural banana flavor so I was disappointed they no longer offer that option. The advertisements are also a bit misleading as the mousse isn't packed, fluffy and overflowing the cup and isn't as large as a portion size as indicated in stock photos. All in all, it's worth stopping in if you're in the area and in the mood for a unique treat but I don't think the serving size justifies ordering via delivery app unless you're getting multiples. Really hope this business does well - everything from the customer service to packaging was really top notch! The owner has a lot of pride in this product and it shows. I definitelyplan to return and try more flavors! Oh! FYI: I was charged an additional $1.50 fee for using a debit card. Seems a little steep for a surcharge IMO

Yelp
The Owner is a sweetheart and so was her daughter. Very nice an full of great energy. Everyone there was pleasant . Very pleased with my service here. I've been twice so far an intend on continuing to give my service to this Black Owned beautifully run business. The Milkshakes are like nothing I ever had before. It's just different. I recommend you head over or order from them ASAP. Won't be disappointed for sure.

Yelp
This product was amazing this is the best thing I've had in such a long time everything that I hoped for the staff was super cool and Hella helpful if you haven't gone there and you're missing out I can't go back there soon enough!

Jroc J.

Yelp
This place has the best milkshakes in west Philly and I can 100% tell you that the Cinnamon Toast Crunch one is the best. Keep doing y'all's thing banana mousse!

Yelp
The food was great. I love the process which makes everyone receive their tasty tests in a timely manner. The owners make you feel as if you're apart of the family! Lovely conversation. Everyone who came in was welcomed. Will definitely be making a few trips to try everything else!

Yelp
Had the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Milkshake! Soooo good! Cute presentation as well. Owner was extremely nice and accommodating!

Yelp
I've been supporting black owned businesses for a while, and was excited to support this local black owned business. I waited outside due to their COVID-19 precautions. When my milkshake arrived, there was a piece of hair in my shake wrapped around the straw. I pointed out the hair to show the server, and he said "what? You want another straw". I said no, but a newly made shake. I waited outside and over heard the conversation. I walked into the store and explained to the owner my concern of hair in the cup. I felt the owner wanted to go back and forth by stating "if it was hair in the cup it would be white (color of shake)". A new shake was made and it was delicious. I do not think I will be returning to this establishment.

Yelp
The Sweet Potato Pie is a must have! So unique and delicious! It is my favorite so far. My daughter got the Cinnamon Toast Crunch Shake and it w as s AMAZING!!! So many flavors and they look beautiful. The store is bright, cheerful and very clean. I love that. Service with a smile. I will definitely be back!@!

Yelp
Delicious definitely, but not worth the price paid for the amount in this container. Sad face...

Cheryl C.

Yelp
I went w/ my friends and I ordered 3 desserts. They never gave me lids or a carrier. I got 1/2 to the car and I spilled some on my self. I went back to get a napkin and the 1st thing they said was no refund and that they weren't going to give me a napkin because she told me I'd spill it. Eventually she gave me a napkin but I thought that was rude and unprofessional. Why not offer lids and carriers when purchasing more than 1 dessert? I'll never go back. They can keep their attitudes and professionalism.

Tynisha S.

Yelp
My husband and I ordered from here because the pics on Uber Eats looked delicious. The food arrived relatively quick, but the portion sizes of the dessert with the chessmen was amazingly small for the price. Food was okay, but overrated. Won't order from here again.

Daaiyah R.

Yelp
This place is amazing! I travel 45 minutes to get their desserts and milkshakes! They know me every time I come inside and it's always an amazing conversation and great vibes

Lou S.

Yelp
Delicious dessert. Very unique and different. Definitely worth going out of your way for! Would recommend.

Yelp
Loved it ! My brother mentioned it to my parents and since we were already in Philly , we decided to go and get some of the mousse . I can't lie , it was really good but i thought it would've had a more ice cream vibe to it , but they truly stuck to what they are all about ! Their promo is also really good . If you go , maybe check on their instagram to find yourself being given a good amount of your favorite flavor of mousse , or a mousse shake

Yelp
This is the worst ice cream it taste freezer burnt and it looks bigger in the picture sooo not worth it

Denae W.

Yelp
This place has the absolute worse customer service. I went in and asked if they had a idea left and the cashier was like did u read the menu. I just walked out and they staff continued to talk about me as I walked out. I will never spend money anywhere where there is bad customer service. I would not recommend this place

Alison K.

Yelp
(Ordered using Uber Eats) I got a prepackaged item which was disappointing since the pictures looked so appetizing. Like a previous reviewer stated, mine was also freezer burnt and tasted a little strange (like a mix of foam, sugar, oil and ice). Maybe it's better fresh. Certainly overpriced for being prepackaged!
google avatar

Erika R.

Yelp
I purchased the original and the cookies and cream, cookies and cream was great as far as flavor both of them were freezer burnt. Expected delivery time phenomenal. Just need to improve the quality of the product.

Hanna W.

Yelp
I've been going to Banana Mousse for some months now, and I can say I have always enjoyed my time speaking with the wonderful mother/daughter team as well as getting my tasty treat. I'll admit, I was not much of a fan of the mousse, but they have a decent and not too overwhelming ice cream selection with vegan options. I know some people have complained about the price, but honestly, for a small family owned business, I don't see it being to unreasonable and they do have Happy Hour sales. If you want to support a local business that sells things other than Chinese food or pizza, then Banana Mousse is your place!

Angal D.

Yelp
I walked into their empty store to place an order and greeted every person in the store only to be greeted with an attitude and an employee saying that I'm not supposed to walk into the open and empty store with my mask on to place an order. Instead they ask that you stand outside on the marked location but there is no signage that indicates to do so. The employee never said "someone will be out to help you". She didn't say anything except basically "get out". Abt a minute later another woman comes out and as I'm greeting her and abt to place my order (she's ignoring me the whole time) she skips right over me to speak to the customers behind me to tell them that they literally have to be touching the "x" marked line on the ground to be serviced. On the glass of the store is their menu and every item that is sold out will have a sticker to point out that there are no more puddings or shakes. When I saw the window, this menu wasn't updated at all and when the lady finally started listening to me I found out that they were sold out. Them being sold out is not an issue, just means they deliver a good product with low inventory. The customer service is what is the issue. Supporting black owned doesn't always mean you have to support attitude and poor customer service. I wish I was giving a review on their goods instead of their poor customer service.

Yelp
Yummmm. Nothing more needs to be said. I ordered the original, and cookies & cream. Both were extremely good and are definitely worth the money. It's something different than the usual dessert options and it's top notch. The only negative about it is the bowl is empty before I'm ready for it to be gone

Shanye P.

Yelp
VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I would give no stars if I could. Did not have the desired flavors, but I ordered to see what the hype about it was. After I ordered I waited for 5 hours and had to leave my house so I had to cancel the order. Then the company proceeded complain on their Instagram because after five hours I couldn't wait any longer. Needless to say, if you don't have all day to wait don't order from here.
