How Couples Across America Are Budgeting for Date Night | Eater

"Owners Gabriella and Giovanna describe date night as primarily about the cooking: “We are rarely going out because we live in a really small town; things aren’t open very late. That’s when we’ll crack open a cookbook and follow instructions.” They typically prepare “a salad or side, main protein, and sometimes a dessert,” relying on pantry staples so they’re “usually just having to buy a protein and maybe whatever the fresh produce is.” They’ve added homegrown touches — “We just got a hydroponic herb tower that is popping off, so we can make our salads and we have herbs from that” — and treat the extra effort as meaningful: “What makes date night extra special is we both know the extra effort that we’re putting in — to think of what we want to eat, prep it, cook it, clean up after ourselves. Also we’re a breakfast and lunch restaurant, so we don’t ever really get to make proteins.” Running the bakery remains a driving force behind how they plan and talk about the future: “The bakery is something we dreamed about for a long time. Even though it’s hard and we cry a lot, it’s still fun, and we’re in the beginning of the journey, so there’s like, a lot of manifesting left to do. We’re always talking about the next step.” On planning and ambition they add: “It’s more like the fun stuff: How can we improve our branding? Or where do we see ourselves in two years? Or should we do a night pop-up?”" - Bettina Makalintal

Do not sleep on this small unassuming bake shop. The vegan"chick habit" served on foccacia bread is amazing. The foccacia bread had a balanced amount of olive oil on it and was salted beautifully (Yes the faccacia bread is vegan as well). They also have a vegan cookie, vegan granola, and vegan overnight oats. Give them a try!

I decided to grab a quick breakfast at Bandidas Bake Shop at 1755 E. Edgewood Dr. Lakeland. It’s a small store front in the Bently Plaza next to Gigi’s Korean Market. They have a marvelous selection of fresh baked items and have a breakfast and lunch sandwich menu. (See photo.) Everything is made to order, so you know it’s fresh. I had the Sausage Biscuit which is a pork sausage patty with guava caramelized onions and shredded Kerry Gold cheddar cheese on a flavorful biscuit! The flavors go together so well. I added an orange juice from the cooler and I had a delicious meal! They have a small dining area inside and a table and chairs out front. The staff is very friendly and the whole store has a welcoming vibe. They are open Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Stop by and treat yourself!

Stopped by for an afternoon snack. Nice little modern bakery. They have breakfast options and a nie selection of breads and baked goods. I had the apple cinnamon cupcake and the ranger cookie. Both so good. Cupcake was moist and soft, not overly sweet too. First time having a Ranger cookie and man it was good. Combination of everything was delicious. There is very limited seating but I wasn't dining is so it wasn't an issue.

Today was my first time visiting Bandida’s and I’m hooked! Their cookies are TOP TIER. 100000/10 recommend. My only wish is that they would offer black iced tea for those of us who treasure freshly brewed iced tea. 🍹

I highly recommend this Bake Shop! I'm gluten-free, and they have a great selection. All the sandwiches have a gluten-free option bread, too. The deserts are fabulous. I had the gluten-free cinnamon roll cake. So moist and delicious. I can't wait to go back!!

We stopped by for the first time today and will definitely be coming again! Everyone was so friendly and the cakes are absolutely delicious. Their flavor combinations are perfectly balanced and the pumpkin is probably the best cake I’ve ever had. Wonderful atmosphere as well.

Yelp
Bandidas' Spring Fling sandwich gave me a much needed dopamine hit. One of the best things I've eaten in a while. Everything I've tried has been great. And everyone is very friendly.

Yelp
Lovely little place! I've wanted to try it for a while, but never in the area during their operating hours . After our bunch today, I'll make a point to go more often. Both the breakfast sandwich & Frita were delicious, coffee flavorful!

Yelp
I'm so happy to have discovered Bandidas bake shop!! The owners are so sweet and have a knack for making a space feel inviting. The vibes are great in their tiny spot with lots of cute merch and yummy fresh foods on display. The warm sandwiches on fresh house made focaccia are insanely good. The desserts are also amazing, as are the takeaway items like the curry chicken salad. The sausage biscuit sandwich is a delicious morning choice. Definitely stop by for lunch or breakfast!

Yelp
I was in the area and a little hungry so I stopped in and I'm so glad I did! Ordered a chicken sandwich OMG the flavor was out standing the bread was to die for. Ate the first half, my stomach was satisfied, I figured I'd bring the other half home to my husband to let him try but NO! I couldn't resist and I finished the other half can't wait to go back and try something else.

Yelp
Great flavors and generous portions when dining in. We have had dining in and take away food, from sandwiches to pastries. Ordered take away for the office and everyone enjoyed the variety and flavors. We love the vibe and will return often.

Yelp
This brick & mortar grew from a Catapult Entrepreneurial raised business that started at markets & pop-ups. It already had quite a following for its unique bakery products and has hit the ground running in its new permanent spot. Open W/Th/F 7-3, Sat/Sun 10-2, closed Mon/Tue. It currently offers one hot breakfast (sausage & homemade biscuit) 7-10:30 am and 4-5 sandwich options on foccaccia 10:30 on. I've tried about everything on the menu. Sc.ones & biscuits are all delicious-large, flavored with such things as kale, cheese, ham. I do find the biscuits don't hold up well to sandwiches, crumbling long before the meat is gone. They cover the vegan & GF community well. I tried their GF lemon cake (for one). It is delicately lemony-but again crumbled easily, was better-suited to crumbling on ice cream for me. Their cookies are large and full of things like coconut, nuts, dried cranberries, etc. I had their zucchini walnut loaf. Didn't taste zucchini but lots of walnuts. A little dry, but tasty with butter or cream cheese. They make a wonderful galette with whatever berries or fruit available, using pie dough I think for the crust. I've had the guava, strawberry, blueberry & sweet potato galettes and would get them every time if I could. They have selected a California roastery for their coffee and make a nice cold brew with their own homemade syrup. They are a market as well with unique products they endorse from around the country. Noting it is a difficult entry for the disabled due to lacks in a curb cut/ramp nearby and a skinny sidewalk due to outside seating and door opening. Be mindful there have been lines on Saturdays. Limited inside seating, some used for waiters on pick-ups. Their bakery products can also be found at coffee shops around town (upcharged by the local shops). They also cater. Their prices are lower than their competition with baked goods that are unique from other local bakers. They will do well in the area, especially if their prices remain lower than the others! I'm reserving the 5th star to see the variety, quality & development over time.

Yelp
I had to try this place so I ordered just about one of everything. It was all really good. The cookies are amazing. I'm not a fan of scones, but my hubby loves them. I tried his and it's the first one I really liked. Can't wait to try their lunch. They even have vegan options that are just as good as the non-vegan ones. So happy we finally have a really good bakery that's open more than just a couple days a week. This is a "must try"
