Where to Grab a Burrito Around D.C. | Eater DC

"A relative newcomer to the burrito scene, Bandit Taco started in 2017 and quickly drew a following for superior salsas and an infusion of international flavors. Along with rich black beans, burritos here show off Korean bulgogi beef and Filipino adobo chicken along with more traditional Mexican meats. There’s a second location in Tenleytown. Order online for pickup." - Gabe Hiatt

Food was definitely good and worth a try, although I would confess this is not the most authentic Mexican food you would possibly eat. I'm not from the area, so I'm not sure if this is the best around, but I think you will appreciate their food. The food has a lot of added flavor, which I think makes it delicious, but also makes it less authentic. We tried several versions of chicken quesdillas and they're all pretty decent. We also definitely enjoyed the tacos. The sauces on the side are extremely spicy so I would warn about em. They're worth the price and I expected it to be expensive than it actually is. Good value for money.

Google
It’s an overall good place for tacos. Nice decor, has promise. But the wait time was long and the carnitas weren’t that good. But i did love their crispy shrimp taco.

Google
Ended up here by accident, but didn't regret it. The restaurant was clean and really no one there but us. I was a little concerned, but moved forward with my order. All of my tacos were really good and flavorful. The mushroom taco could have had less corn and used Portobello mushrooms. However, they were tasty. I requested ice for my drink and they didn't have any. I prefer ice cold beverages with my food. Also, the chips were fresh with good salsa.

Google
Bandit Taco makes some good tacos! The also seem to be a favorite with the locals!

Google
Ambience is decent and bright. It felt like a take out place in terms of service. Customer service can be better. One of the kiddish crew member had a bad attitude. We ordered a Horchata and did not receive it with rest of the food on the table. When checked on it he said, “You could have picked it from the cooler”. How am I supposed to know if I am a first time customer and have not told by the cashier about it when I placed the order? Overall food tasted fresh but flavors were just alright. Tortilla chips were fresh and warm. Guacamole was good. Tacos looked good and tasted ok. Chicken Tinga bowl was very dry.

Google
Amazing tacos. One of the best I’ve had outside or Mexico. Added bonus is that the Korean beef and steak meat are halal. We had the baja fish and shrimp tacos and those were excellent.

Google
This place is really cool we went there after our shopping at Leesburg mall. The Taco options are really great, we liked Shrimp, Veg and Mushroom Tacos. The chicken was okay. I would definitely go back again. Nice place to chill with friends and play a card or a board game. I highly recommend this place.

Google
I’m begging y'all to drop Chipotle and Qdoba, and COME TO BANDIT! I mean it when I say I LOVE Bandit Taco. The food is delicious, the prices are cheap, they don’t skimp, and it’s real, authentic Mexican food. I am addicted to this place. Am I ashamed? No. Is my bank account ashamed? Maybe. Is my waistline ashamed? Most definitely, but you can’t take Bandit away from me. 100/10

Yelp
Birria tacos are addictive! Elote is okay too. I prefer the corn charred, so I pop it in the air fryer for a couple minutes and it's perfect.
google avatar

Sean L.

Yelp
Over priced and bland. Tbh, when I'm in the area, I try to give this place a chance and always leave disappointed. You're better off making tacos at home Senor Ramon Taqueria in downtown Leesburg is the better option.
google avatar

Shawanda W.

Yelp
Overall the food was decent. The adobo could've stood bit more seasoning. The elote had good flavor overall, however the corn tasted overcooked. The service was pleasant. The restaurant itself was har a cool vibe. The place nice and clean.

Yelp
Went for lunch and happily surprised they serve breakfast all day! The guac & chips are on point - fresh guac and the chips were warm. Wonderful start to the meal. The burrito was wonderful, potatoes and black beans complimented the cheese and eggs. Their self serve sauces are all good - from mild to spicy, they have one for every taste bud. If you like good food, go!
google avatar

John J.

Yelp
This is your typical taco joint. They have all the things would expect. Taco Tuesday is a great deal. The guac and chips were pretty good, the sauces, the mild and the hot both were pretty good. Had the taco Birria special, which was quite delicious. I also tried the Korean beef taco, which was good, although, I would rather have tried something different. All in all, not a bad place to grab a quick taco on the way home or a while you're drinking in the afternoon. I'll be back.

Yelp
Since it was Tuesday, I figured why not take advantage of Taco Tuesday at Bandit Taco. The inside is spacious, with colorful chairs and a bit of an industrial feel. They had three tacos to choose from at $2.50 each. The three varieties were; Adobo Chicken, Chorizo and Mushroom. Additionally, they have more tacos, burritos, quesadillas and so much more. I got two mushroom tacos. They are small, but packed with plenty of flavor. My tacos had; corn, peppers, cilantro, scallions and seasoning. They were ready very quickly. They arrived on a tray with a lime wedge. These tacos are very tasty, with the right amount of oomph seasoning, and the texture from the scallions. They are small, I don't think they are worth any more than the Taco Tuesday price of $2.50. If you're in the area on a Tuesday, I would totally check out Bandit Taco.

Yelp
After catching a movie, we wanted to grab a bite to eat in the area. It's conveniently located right outside the theatre so it worked out perfectly! It turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The food was tasty and reasonable prices. I got the birria tacos which I enjoyed and my kids shared the chicken quesadilla and they loved it. I probably wouldn't order the queso again though.
google avatar

Arpreet K.

Yelp
Tacos were amazing! My favorite was the mushroom taco super flavored. The corn was good as well.
google avatar

Brandon M.

Yelp
Best taco place in town. Senor Ramon used to be the only spot, but this is what I'd expect from a proper taqueria. Simple - double tortillas, meat style, and garnish depending on the type (cilantro, radish, onion, etc.). I've probably had half the menu and really everything is pretty good. The quesadillas are just okay, but the place isn't called bandit quesadilla. It's wild that the best place to eat in village at Leesburg is either here or a chocolate-themed upscale. Service is great too.
google avatar

Lydia B.

Yelp
We love this place and go several times a month. It's perfect spot to grab dinner before going to a movie too. Have tried several different taco proteins but my personal favorite is the chorizo tacos. I've seen a few reviews complaining about price but these tacos are packed full of meat and since they double up on the corn tortilla you could make 2 tacos out of the amount of meat they give you. I also love their street corn (it is whole cob on a stick) and queso and chips. The guacamole isn't bad either though I find it a bit under seasoned for my taste. I love the hibiscus drink they have and they have Mexican coke bottles which I'm a sucker for. Last time I went I got the Birria Taco Special and I hope it never leaves the menu because I'm now officially obsessed. It's a decent size space and we've never had an issue getting a seat. They have some communal tables too which is cool. You can also grab to go and walk down block to tables near center of shopping complex. Staff has always been polite and food has always been made fresh to order and comes out hot.

Yelp
Amazing place, this is real serious food! and service A+++. Now on, my favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Thanks again.
google avatar

Steven C.

Yelp
This place was AWESOME. The food was hot, the tacos were delicious and the service was amazing. My one draw back was the barrieria just was not as tasty for the quesadillas.
google avatar

Leslie W.

Yelp
I love all of the taco options! I got the Baja fish, shrimp, and el pastor, and was so happy with each one! The Baja fish was my absolute favorite! Service was super! The ambiance reminds me so much of Taco Stand in San Diego California, it was perfect!
google avatar

Yelp
We went back and the place was not very crowded - we ordered and the food arrived in less than 10 minutes, but the problem from the past has continued as the food is still very meager and really not worth the $12 per bowl. I guess this is best if you want an occasional change of flavor from chipotle, otherwise it really can't compete with them both on quality and quantity.
google avatar

K. Anand S.

Yelp
Cool, casual ambience. Cheese quesadillas were bland. Chicken tinga burrito was so so- not much flavor. Shrimp tacos were okay. Chocolate tres leches was not too good . Disappointing food overall.

Yelp
Three of us went to Bandit Taco for a late lunch. We ordered a Skirt Steak Taco, a Shrimp Taco, an Al Pastor Bowl, and Sweet Plantains. We also got bottled water, Mexican Fanta, and Mexican Coke from the nearby fridge. Our food came out quickly and was delivered as each item became ready. The tacos are street size and each has two tortillas under the filling. Hubby said the steak was good and decided to dip some of it into the what he thought was Salsa Rioja he picked up at the sauce station. It might have been the Habanero. His face and eyes quickly became red and watery, and he coughed. The salsa was spicier than he expected, and he quickly used the Salsa Verde and swigged his Mexican Coke. He enjoyed the Crispy Shrimp Taco although it was a couple of bites before he got to the shrimp. I enjoyed the Al Pastor Bowl. It had hot white rice and black beans that contrasted well with the cool shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, pineapple tidbits, shredded mozzarella, and sour cream. I appreciated the freshness of the ingredients and the flavors. The plantains were sweet and soft with caramelized ends, and they had a light, sweet glaze. They stayed very warm as we ate them. The plantains were my favorite as I really enjoyed the caramelized ends. Although it came with sour cream, I never felt a need for it. Prior to sitting, I looked around for a table that seats 4, and there were only tables for 2 and groups of 6 to 8. We sat at a large wooden table that had a wooden bench on one side and three metal chairs on the other. There was plenty of upbeat music playing although not too loud. If you are looking for cheaper tacos, they have select tacos for $2.50 on Tuesdays. I definitely want to go back to try the Street Corn and a few other things.

Yelp
3.5. Food was good but wasn't anything particularly special, even more so given the price (~$5/taco). Got the birra tacos, korean BBQ taco, chicken tinga taco, barbacoa taco, chips and queso, and a barbacoa burrito. All the beef ones had a slightly burnt flavor. Birra tacos had good flavor but pretty greasy. Online ordering was easy and to-go staff were friendly. Overall, nice place but probably won't be my go-to for tacos.
google avatar

Jonathan X.

Yelp
Delicious food. The taco prices were reasonable. Pro tip: Pay in cash so you can avoid the awkwardness when they flip that screen over asking for a 35% tip. The Barbacoa quesadilla was fantastic, and very filling. Parking on the street is really tough during the day, but there's a garage around the corner.

Yelp
We went to Bandit Taco on April 24, 2024, my wife ordered 3 tacos & I ordered an Al Pastor bowl. I signed up to receive my receipt via email. When I looked at the receipt, I had been charged for TWO Al Pastor bowls. I pointed this out to the cashier & he said, "oh, I thought you said 2." He punched in something on the register again & told me to insert my card for a refund. I did this. I said, "you're sure this will show up as a refund?" He said, "yeah, should be there." I've looked at our account several times since that day. The original double charge is still there, but so far, no refund a week later. I'd steer clear of Bandit Taco for a while. It seems some shady things are going on there with payments.

Yelp
Food was spectacular. Seasoned to perfection with good portions. I prefer the strip steak taco & crispy chicken burrito. Prices are fantastic (Cheap for quantity) Totally recommend to Mexicans food fans and those with open pallets. Service was quick and kind.

Yelp
My friend and I were at the Leesburg Outlets and we were starving, so coming here was completely on a whim. It's pretty close to the outlets in a really cute complex. When we got here, it was pretty busy but we were able to find seats. I ordered the tofu and veggies bowl, my friend ordered the mushroom burrito, and we shared the yuca fries and got the dulce de leche cheesecake. My bowl was a lot bigger than I expected and I could barely finish it! My friends burrito also was huge. I thought my bowl was really good, it felt fresh and wasn't greasy or anything. It felt light to me which I appreciated. I was shocked by the yuca fries with how big they were. I was scared that they'd be really soft because of how big they were but honestly they were really good! Fried to perfection. Lastly, the dulce de leche cheesecake tasted like pure caramel. It was really good, but incredibly rich - I shared with my friend and we could only eat half. I felt like the service was a bit off, it took around 20 minutes for us to get our yuca fries and another 10 minutes to get our food. We also weren't told that the cheesecake is in the fridge so we had to go get it ourselves, so we ended up sitting for a bit longer than expected. I do think the food was worth it though, and definitely worth the price.

Yelp
Very pleasantly surprised. The shrimp taco was DELICIOUS! Not so sure about the burritos, but a good choice for people who want a hearty meal without a lot of flavor.
google avatar

Phuong O.

Yelp
We ordered these delicious tacos for lunch, they were good but lacking flavor. Had to dress it up with the salsa and sauces they gave us. I had the steak and the Al Pastor. Steak was bland and a little over cooked and the Al pastor shredded meat was tender and juicy, out of the two I like the Al pastor better. -Skirt Steak Taco -Korean Beef Taco -Al Pastor Taco -Baja Fish Taco -Adobo Chicken Quesadilla -Skirt Steak Quesadilla Tacos are tiny looking, Quesadilla are big in size and worth the $10. Overall Bandit Tacos are good and are definitely on the expensive side, they remind me of Taco Bamba but Bamba has flavors. Will be back for other tacos.
google avatar

Riley G.

Yelp
Bandit Taco never misses Anything with their Adobo Chicken is amazing! I highly recommend their burritos and bowls. There's a good amount of seating inside, but sometimes music can be loud so I usually just opt for takeout which is always great quality food and service. The employees have always been kind, quick, and friendly.
google avatar

Reid K.

Yelp
LEGIT burritos! They remind me of the ones I used to get in LA. They also have good burrito bowls and tacos as well. Home made salsa ftw! This place rules.
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
My wife and I went there a few weeks ago. She had a skirt steak burrito, It was very tasty. I had 4 tacos, 2 chorizo tacos, a Korean BBQ taco and chicken adobo taco. All were flavorful, well seasoned and nicely balanced with acid. My favorite was the chorizo taco. The tacos are not very big,get a burrito if you're really hungry. My only negative comments are the fact that they serve white rice with Tacos, Burritos and they don't have refried beans on the menu. Why in the hell would you serve white rice in a tex-mex style of restaurant? Where's the refried beans?
google avatar

Trendy D.

Yelp
Price could be a bit more affordable but overall I liked it. I ordered it via doordash and got my food fairly quickly. I ordered 1 Barbacoa taco, 1 skirt steak, 1 crispy shrimp, and 1 skirt steak bowl. My favorite items was the bowl and the skirt steak taco. Both the bowl and tacos seemed REALLY small compared to other places for the pricing. I feel like you don't get much for your money. The bowl came with the basics rice, beans, shredded lettuce, cheese, sour cream, pico, and steak. However, the bowl is not very deep and it's just as wide as Cava or Chipotle. So you really don't get much... the flavor was good, nothing wow factor. Overall, I'd order again but I do feel like I'd check out other options first.
google avatar

Tiffani N.

Yelp
It took forever to get the food I ordered but it was kinda worth it. I just hate waiting and I didn't understand what was taking so long when the dining area was mostly empty. I could see the kitchen staff moving around but maybe it was for Door Dash orders ahead of me. They were all very nice and courteous despite the wait. I got the steak quesadillas, shrimp taco and fish taco. I was surprised at how big the quesadilla was and had leftovers for a couple days. The flavor was amazing and I'm excited to try another variation the next time I go. The tacos were okay but I'm not a corn tortilla girl. I forgot to ask if I could sub for flour tortillas. Overall, I'm down to go back as an alternative to the big C.
google avatar

Erin L.

Yelp
So good. Far from where I live but wow. Love their tacos and their cheese queso dip! A cute little taco joint in the shopping center with food you won't be disappointed. You get to choose tacos, nachos, bowls, burrito.... Plenty of protein to choose from!
google avatar

Mark N.

Yelp
Tacos were good. Like that they use corn tortillas. Fajita meat was tasty but a little bit dry. Guacamole could use more kick and chunks. Did not like the queso it was sort of like mayonnaise. Service was good. Can order online via Toast app. Overall this is decent but not better than senor ramons.
google avatar

Leinani S.

Yelp
Tasty and fast globally influenced Mexican street food. Tacos are street style and small enough that they are a perfect snack - two or more if you are looking for more of a meal. Burritos on the other hand are substantial, more than enough for a meal. Service is fast and the dine in area is pleasant with upbeat music. Plenty of parking at this plaza. Great for before or after seeing a movie at the CMX Cinema next door.
google avatar

Ahmed H.

Yelp
The first time I tried the shrimp and fish tacos I wasn't sure if they tasted good because I was insanely hungry or if they were actually good. The second time I confirmed that it was indeed the food that was exceptionally fresh and well tasting. I always go around lunch time and they usually get the food out really quick too.
google avatar

Sean M.

Yelp
Horrible customer service during the day, probably why they work the slow shift. Ordered my food, tipped, then waited. Saw the food be prepared then packaged by the person who took my order , then he just put it to the side and proceeded to go on his phone . (I was the only customer in there). I waited just to be polite but still he just stared at his phone. An employee from the back finally came out of nowhere and asked if that was my food and he said "si" so she then gave it to me. What is with people ? Since you hate your job/life or you're embarrassed about your job you have to take it out on the customer? A tip means nothing these days...

Trendy M.

Yelp
The service and ambience were good but the food was not to my satisfaction. If you are looking for authentic Mexican this is not the spot. I can tell they tried but the preparation and cuts of meat were not very Mexican. If you have not had Mexican food in Mexico, California or Texas then Im sure you wont notice so enjoy.
google avatar

Austin W.

Yelp
That's some bangin barbacoa! Tender, well cleaned, and sooooooooooo juicy. Rest of the ingredients proportioned perfectly and looked and tasted super fresh. Great pick up burrito if you're in the Village!
google avatar

Sydney Y.

Yelp
The meat was very moist in all of the tacos we had. The Al pastor was pulled rather than cut up into small chunks and was on the sweeter side so I preferred the Korean beef taco over the Al pastor but still both good. The agua de jamaica was good but I have had better. The street corn was amazing as well as the homemade salsas! The tres leches was a delicious dessert option but i wish it was a little fluffier but was super moist which is a must for tres leches!

Yelp
I've had issues twice eating here. First was they got my Taco wrong a few weeks ago and then had crazy attitude when I asked to replace it. Ok, things happen. But today, got the Fish bowl for lunch and the fish was cold, as in undercooked. Told the cashier to let the cook know, but she never once offered to replace the order. Had to eat around the fish. I like Bachata music but not so loud that I can't hear myself think or start dancing to stay sane. They always have music really loud in the afternoon. Their Fried Yuca is on point and sometimes their Taco's are good. They just need to work better on their customer service and food quality control. Also, they don't have any combos so expect to pay a La carte prices. Pricey for what you get. At this price they should offer rice and beans or another side like chips. No refried beans are offered in the menu.

Byron C.

Yelp
Always excellent food and service!! Anything you get is delicious. Best is taco tuesday!

Bunny G.

Yelp
The nachos and tacos are wonderful. The employees are friendly and knowledgeable. I live nearby and stop in for dinner regularly.

Carolyn S.

Yelp
Everything was delicious! Loved the flavoring in all of the tacos that we had! Definitely also recommend the bowls!

Yelp
I ordered the family size chicken and steak fajitas, I asked for the chicken and steak in separate containers so the kids that only want chicken and those that only want steak can build their fajitas to their liking. To be clear the website states that you receive TWO pounds of meat here is the exact verbiage: "1 pound of Adobo Chicken and 1 Pound of Skirt Steak mixed with onions, green and red peppers 1 large side of beans and 1 large side white Rice 6 Flour Tortillas (6 Inches)" We picked up our order and got home with two small containers containing 5.7 ounces of chicken and 5.3 ounces of steak. (Weight includes the container's weight) This is not even enough for two people let alone four people, either way it's a far cry from 32 ounces of chicken and steak. (And it was COLD, both the chicken and the steak!) I called, assuming this must be an error and was told they would only remake the meat "mixed together with vegetables" for us to pickup. When we arrived we were met with an at argument from the owner about how they "didn't mean two pounds of meat" and "they usually mix it together with vegetables " a large man in the corner eyeballed me angrily as I read the exact description on their menu. I received a LIGHT replacement of meat and vegetables (combined) At this point I was done and just took the light replacement of additional meat and vegetables and went home. I weighed it at home, packaging included it was 9 ounces, total, including the weight of the packaging. These people need to revise their website menu and online ordering menu, they are NOT selling 2 pounds or 32 ounces of meat with their family size fajitas meal. They are selling way less than half of what they are promising. Note, owners or staff should not argue with customers EVER, especially after the owner came up with a solution and promised a replacement. Lastly, don't attempt to threaten your customers with large men, attempting to be scary, skulking in the corner. If that's your solution, get a more frightening man boy to give dirty, threatening looks to your customers.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place based on the reviews, but it fell short unfortunately. I ordered a skirt steak burrito, but it was super dry. I left off the pico but it's hard for me to believe that eliminating that would cause a burrito to be that dry. Maybe add a sauce?? My coworker had the Al Pastor bowl and she loved it. So at least one of us was happy. I love the area where it's located. I ordered online and my food was ready by the time I arrived to pick it up.
google avatar

Jillian R.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Saturday night and the place was large inside, plenty of seating and friendly staff. The Korean bulgogi & signature shrimp tacos were really good, the Al pastor was kind of dry. The street corn tasted a little bland, it was better once I added in their hot sauce (which was good), and the guac was super disappointing, it literally just tasted like mashed up avocados - no tomatoes, onions or cilantro to be found. The chips were really good though, and my boyfriend liked the Korean bulgogi bowl he got. I'd return if someone I knew wanted to go, otherwise I would go out of my way to come back.

Michael A.

Yelp
Honestly, I really wanted to like this place. The three of us showed up for a late lunch around 2 o'clock and the place was half full. The girl at the register honestly couldn't care less that she had customers waiting to place an order. As we are providing her with our order, she was literally rolling her eyes and without a care in the world. The only upside was the fact that the food came out fast, and hot . Of the three of us, I ordered a chicken burrito, and there was probably less than a tablespoon of chicken in the entire burrito, which mainly consisted of rice and a scoop of beans . For the price, it simply wasn't worth it. Comparing it to a place like chipotle, which we basically would normally receive twice the amount of food for the same price. Again, I wanted to like this place, but it was a total waste of money and we didn't feel valued as customers . Lesson learned.

H N.

Yelp
I picked up lunch for two twice and got to try the adobo, al pastor, and tinga burritos. They were very tasty, especially when eaten with any of the 3 little spicy side salsas. They are also huge, easily two meals. The guac & salsa were also decent, but the chips a bit greasy, soaking the paper bag, or I would have given 5 stars. I love that everything was in paper and cardboard instead of plastic and that the meals were ready for pickup.

Ion S.

Yelp
Decent Mexican food in Leesburg. Considering the bland taste at other places in the L Village, this place is actually tasty.

Yolanda S.

Yelp
Stopped in today with my husband and I had a Crispy Shrimp bowl and hubby ordered a Korean Beef Burrito. First of all, this is a taco shop and there are absolutely no aromas whatsoever wafting from the kitchen. Really!?!?, no smell of onions, peppers, or meat being seared on the grill, hmm! So we get our food and it's not bad but my bowl could definitely use salt and pepper. There are none on the tables so my husband gets back in line to ask the guy taking orders for some. He picks up salt and pepper shakers from the counter near the kitchen and proceeds to take his finger and wipe it across each shaker (as if cleaning it) and hands them to my husband. Are you freaking kidding me dud? You are touching the POS register, delivering food to tables and you wipe the top of the shakers with your fingers? My husband politely refused and then checked dude on how unsanitary that is. We ate our food and enjoyed our Hibiscus water drinks( which I actually enjoyed drinking) but we probably won't be back.

Yelp
Stopped here for lunch 1 day this week and was very pleased with the entire experience. Nothing fancy, no table-side waiters, just good food at a decent price. I ordered 2 tacos, an adobo chicken and a baja fish. Both on corn tortilla, perfect sized. Also had a Mexican coke, those are always great. Adding this to my lunch rotation. Crew there was very friendly, quick service, spotlessly clean, all around great experience.

Yelp
Definitely worth a Taco Tuesday stop! Adobo Chicken - 6/10 Carnitas - 5/10 Tofu - 5/10 Crispy Shrimp - 7/10 (my favorite from here but the shrimp sometimes gets lost with topping ratio & they aren't "crispy"). Barbacoa - 5/10 Veggies - 6/10 Al Pastor - 6/10 Wild Mushroom - 2/10 Baja Fish - 7/10 Chorizo/Chicken Tinga have not been tried. *Order extra limes, important hehehee. I slightly prefer the burritos over the tacos here; better than Chipotle but smaller and more pricey. Quesadillas are yummy. The street corn is a 3/10. Too costly for what you're getting and mine always resembles a "sitting uncovered in a refrigerator" taste. Desserts are meh!
