I was staying at the hotel that the B&O is connected to and since we heard good things about this place, we decided to come here for dinner.
They replaced the NY Strip Steak with the Flat Iron Steak for $25, so that was what I got. I ordered it medium rare, but the meat wasn't as pink on the inside as what I'm used to. However, the texture of it was perfectly fine to me. It wasn't tough at all to chew or cut through. The herbed potatoes were very good as well, and I liked that they also put a lemon on the side, because I love squeezing lemons on everything. I wasn't a big fan of the mache "salad". There was no other dressing or anything added to the mache, so I personally wouldn't consider it a salad. It was more like just a pile of mache with maybe a lemon on the side if that was what the lemon was actually for.
I also tried the Wedge Salad ($14), White Peach Gazpacho ($9), Cast Iron Crab Cake ($30), Grilled Pork Steak ($26), and Buttermilk Fried Chicken ($19).
Surprisingly, I liked the wedge salad. I usually actually hate bleu cheese, but this one tastes very similar to gorgonzola. Gorgonzola is a type of bleu cheese, but I'm not sure if it actually is gorgonzola. But, if it is I think that it would've helped to specify that on the menu. It is pretty strong on the gorgonzola flavor though so I'd suggest avoiding it if you don't want an overpowering flavor of gorgonzola with a hint of bacon.
The white peach gazpacho is a cold soup. I've never had cold soup before, so that was interesting to taste. It definitely is different from any other soup I've had, but it still tastes strangely familiar. I would say that it tastes like you're drinking a salad, but not in a bad way. It was pretty refreshing for the hot summer weather.
The crab cake was a little bit underwhelming. You only get one crab cake about the size of a hockey puck, and it's sitting on something that looks similar to it, but wasn't a second piece of crab cake. While the crab cake was good, I wouldn't say that it's worth the $30, because it wasn't filling at all.
The grilled pork steak was nice and soft, but it was also a bit dry. It had a curry flavor to it, but it's not my personal preference. The fried chicken was more moist and soft, but not my preference either. It would be a good choice if you are a fan of fried chicken though.
The service here is awesome. Our waitress was patient as we were looking at the menu trying to decide what to eat, and she answered all my questions without seeming annoyed or anything. She constantly kept our waters filled and made sure that we were all enjoying our food. The food did take a while to come out, but throughout the wait she kept reassuring us that it was coming.
Overall, I think this is a solid place to go to if you're in the area and want to spend a little bit of money. I've heard good things about their brunch as well so I would be willing to check it out again for that.
