I have never had consistently good service from Bang Bang. The food and service have both always been hit or miss, and I think they've hit one too many misses for me.
It's a food truck. You can order online, order by phone (if its working), or order at the window. They'll give you a buzzer so you know when your order is ready so you can wait in your car while your order is being prepared. If you order online, you can just go pick it up - hopefully...
I placed an order online around 8pm for pickup at 8:20. My girlfriend went to pick it up, getting there around 8:30... but they didn't have the food ready until 8:50. She said there were a couple of cars there, but they certainly weren't busy.
I ordered:
- Vegetable Hibachi - The carrots were way undercooked, the zucchini was mush, and the broccoli was somehow a combination of the two. The entire thing was drenched in thick, sweet sauce - so much that it looked like a soup! The "fried rice" was edible, but that's about it - dry and clumpy, tasted mostly like oil.
- Crunch crab roll - More rice than anything else, but the rice was so mushy that the nori basically disintegrated. The "crunch" was powdery - like eating a mouthful of flour. It had no flavor too so it felt like eating plain rice filled with chalk
- California roll - Also mostly mush rice and no flavor at all. Some bites had huge amounts of avocado, some had bigger bits of surimi. The most edible of the items I ordered, but I didn't enjoy it.
- Crab rangoon - I thought it was impossible to mess up crab rangoon - I was wrong. The filling tasted like someone took cream cheese and dumped a container of garlic powder into it, but nothing else. It wasn't sweet, and there was no surimi or onions. The wrapper was hard but not crunchy, like it had soaked up too much oil.
- The yum yum sauce was good at first, but after a couple of bites it tasted overwhelmingly like ketchup and garlic power.
What should have been a quick and easy dinner became a disappointment. For the cost and the time it took to get the food, get it home, and eat the few bites I could stomach, I could have gone to an actual restaurant and enjoyed my meal - I think I'll do that next time and skip bang bang!
