Bang San Diego

Absolutely horrendous. We had a reservation for Valentines and they canceled with out notice. We were informed they had to cancel because they had a private event but if we wanted to We could pay 35 for the event that included food and drinks. That was a complete lie. The drinks were watered down. The food (sushi) was falling apart and wasn't edible. It took more than 30 min for them to acknowledge us and that is only because we had to get up and get their attention. We have tried calling several times to speak with a manager but they never answer the phone. I wish I could give negative stars. This place was a nightmare

I used to go to the original bang bang, whatever they did, they royally messed up. The food is so horrible now, nothing had depth it was all bland, new owner doesn’t give a damn and it shows. Bartender doesnt know how to make a drink. Atmosphere was weird and way worse than the last place. Worst of all it still carries the insane price tag, just nowhere near worth it. The only thing I had that was good were the bang puffs, and that’s an app. They changed too much and it’s clear the new owner doesn’t care

Unfortunately, I had a very negative experience at Bang Sushi in San Diego. About one hour after eating here, I became extremely ill and experienced symptoms consistent with food poisoning that lasted over 24 hours. I ultimately had to go to urgent care for IV fluids. During my meal, one of the sushi rolls had a noticeably fishy taste. I initially thought my taste buds might be sensitive and didn’t think much of it at the time, but given how quickly and severely I became sick afterward, it seems likely the fish may have been bad. This illness caused me to lose an entire day of my vacation. I attempted to call the restaurant multiple times to report the issue and speak with a manager but was unable to reach anyone. I don’t leave reviews like this lightly, but I feel it’s important for others to be aware. I hope management takes food safety seriously and addresses this to prevent it from happening to someone else.

this venue might even be better than the last !! we had such incredible food and drinks and the service was amazing. i had the "cool as a cucumber" cocktail (amazing) and "when the fire starts to burn" cocktail (incredible), the coco chanel roll (fabulous), and the chicken fried rice to share (unreal). highly recommend for food quality and atmosphere !!

Horrible customer service. 8pm on a Saturday you would think someone would great us at the door but we had to stand around to get seated. Ordered 2 drinks and a appetizer. No physical menus so plan to use your phone to look at the menu. The bartender who took our order disappeared to the back with a girl to never return. The bar was left unattended. Can't rate the food or drinks cause we never got any. After waiting for a while we just got up and left. Definitely skip this place If you want to eat.

Food at this establishment is a 100% a joke to Japanese Cuisine, and me being part Japanese and lived in the Japan I find it offensive and disrespectful. The General Manager is not real General Manager he has no clue how to run a restaurant , I feel for the employees there . sushi rice is not seasoned properly, sushi not rolled correctly, fried rice has no flavor, tempura chicken wings is not the thing to do, just because you dip something in tempura doesn't make it Japanese at all, nothing fusion about this menu take a look at it and you will see, this place is the worst so called Japanese food I've experienced in 41years #goodlucknexttime.

Avoid! Even with the reviews, I had been to their old location and didn't make the connection it is a completely different experience. Proper table? - GONE, it was a tailgating foldable plastic table. Ryan G bathroom - GONE, Vibe - GONE. So very disappointing. The food was OK but overall all it was very disappointing. Change the name guys, just dropping one of the 'Bang's in your name is deceitful.

Aman greeted us out front as soon as we walked in and it was hospitality +101! Ana proceeded to walk us to our table and that was such a warm welcome for me and my lady on date night! We had a wonderful sushi dinner with the bartender/ Cameron taking care of us and overall our night was perfect with team effort of the service staff! I truly hope this place succeeds in gaslight because downtown needs more places like this! Thank you for the evening ✌🏾

Horrible experience!!! I've been here before when it was an upstairs location, loved it and was excited to come here again for my BIRTHDAY. Went with a group, and Keep in mind we are the only table in the whole restaurant, completely empty on a Saturday night except us and one lady at the bar. The waiter had messed up 3 drink orders, brought us 2 wrong plates, didn't bring out some peoples orders, and gaslit my friend when she told him she was waiting for her appetizer. He ARGUED with her and said he did, we all looked around and told him he never did. He didn't know what was on the menu, and asked to see it when we were ordering drinks because he didn't know what anything was. The whole time the "manager" was watching from the bar, making eye contact with me, could hear us arguing with the waiter but never stepped in. He was too busy flirting with a woman, and we all watched him walking her to the back of the restaurant to probably do exactly what we all think!! I had to get up from my seat and ask a cook who was standing in the back for the manager, and THEN he walked over and ask what the issue was, he clearly knew what was going on?! He was not very concerned and just said he would discount the check. Also, There was another 2 couples who walked in and never got seen by the waiter, we watched them walk right back out after who knows how long. There was no toilet paper or soap in the women's bathrooms and I had to walk to the men's bathroom to wash my hands. This place USED TO be very nice, vibey, and great drinks. For a place that's gonna threaten to charge me $25 per person if I don't show up for my reservation, have expensive sushi and drinks, it was so NOT worth it. Please don't WASTE your hard earned money here, the food was mid and expensive, and the drinks were TERRIBLE. DO NOT come here.

Excellent service and casual atmosphere before 8 pm, we went for a birthday and they put out bday girls name on the big screen the whole time. Sushi was delish as well!!

The space is soo aesthetic inside and the sushi is BOMB. Dominic was our server and he was really helpful and attentive towards our table. We were celebrating a birthday party with a large group and they accommodate for everything!

I came for my 22nd birthday and I had such a good time. Dominique was great helping us get everything we need. They put my name on the screen and made me feel so special. Definitely would return and recommend!!

Horrible customer service. Walked in to no one at the door or anyone greeting us. Finally got seated and ordered 2 drinks and a appetizer while looking at a menu on our phones cause they don't have physical menus. Waited for our drinks and appetizer. The guy behind the bar disappeared to the back with a girl that I assumed worked there, but we weren't sure. The bar and door were literally unattended for a while. Someone who was wearing a apron and backwards hat emerged from the kitchen to deliver the only other table there some food. He was obviously not a waiter. We got tired of waiting for our order, which never came, and just left. Please don't waste your time here.

By far the best in sushi and sides. Get the crab hand roll and you think on your in heaven. God Bless Dominic to the rescue. His suggestions on point and very nice person. Definately the scene after 10 also.

My girlfriend & I originally came here for their collab with a Halloween pop-up. Unfortunately, the host did not end up coming & surprised all of us by coming an hour later, no communication at all. But the Bang team went above & beyond to ensure that we still had a great time! Very attentive & friendly. Food was delicious, & they honored the drinks promised by the pop-up. Thank you!

Drinks weren't outrageous, fair prices. Employees were cool and outgoing unlike other places close by. AND GREAT MUSIC!

Got the opportunity to stop by at Bang On 5th and it did not disappoint. The place its self is decorated in a modern and cool vibe in there. It has multiple floors with different type of music so anyone can find their groove there. Its pretty amazing they can offer all the different types of music in separate rooms. This place feels open to wonder and explore different vibes in there. The service they offer in there is pretty legit. Although is does get crowded the bars tenders and other staff members do an amazing job. Drinks here are amazing!

First time checking out the new Bang spot and I am LOVING IT!!! Our Bartender Dominic was amazing, he walked us thru the menu and even customized a drink just to my preference. Couldn't ask for better service or a better drink! Order the "Cool as a Cucumber" you won't be disappointed! The spicy yellowtail roll on happy hour was the perfect amount and tasted great. Thursdays are house music night (Heck YES!!!) and the music is pumpin beautifully thru the awesome sound system. 10/10

Sushi is very good and high quality, I would recommend Kill Bill, Coco Chanel, and Hello Kitty. They are all very good and service with Dom was excellent

First time in this place. Just so happen to be drawn in by the music. Great dj playing good vibe music. Had the Asian Wings & fried rice, pretty good. Had the best Blue Hawaii! Dominic is def Best Bartender & staff members are nice & friendly. At 10pm it turns into a club. There's two vip floors to have private parties, a speak easy downstairs room with another dj. Definitely returning!

This was one of the worst service experiences I've had at a sushi restaurant. Our server brought the wrong order multiple times, then insisted he had already dropped off an item that never arrived, instead of owning the mistake or fixing it(was gaslighting me so badly). The bartender and waiter repeatedly disappeared into the back for long stretches, leaving us and other tables completely unattended. Even worse, the manager (allegedly the bartender) was standing about five feet away in an otherwise empty restaurant and did absolutely nothing to step in, help, or correct this clearly poorly trained waiter. While we were waiting, I watched multiple groups walk in, receive no service, and leave. The problems didn't stop there. The bathroom is downstairs which is filthy, and had no soap (how would employees handling food wash their hands after the restroom?), which is unacceptable. To top it off, the manager acknowledged the poor service and promised a discount, but when the check came, it was only applied to one person in our group, not the table as discussed. Between the chaos, lack of leadership, poor hygiene, and broken promises, this place isn't worth the frustration. When they were at their previous location and clearly under different management "bang bang" used to be an incredible sushi experience with amazing food, drink, and an ambience that could not be topped. Unfortunately, that no longer exists.

Great service, food and ambience! Dominic was amazing, friendly and a great host. We enjoyed the time we spent at Bang SD and will be going back again.

Bang Bang changed locations. So we had to Google directions. When we Google Bang Bang. We realized they also change their name to Bang on 5th. We also realized they only had 3 stars. We yelp them and their rate was a lilttle worst. Red flags everywhere. I been craving their Sushi. So we decided to give them a chance. My cousin agreed because most 1 star reviews were about this event they had in Halloween. The new location is pretty cool but nothing close to the old location. Dinning area looks very small. They do have 2 more dinning areas upstairs tho. We place our orders. Sushi was still amazing. Exactly what i was expecting. They even asked us if we would like all the rolls together in a platter. Price a bit too expensive tho. Maybe because of location? I dont know but we had a blast. We are happy with the experience. Good food, beautiful platting & friendly staff.

We went here for dinner this past Saturday and unfortunately were very disappointed in our experience. First, the service was SO bad. The server probably to no fault of his own seemed to be lacking training, confused, and overall lost. When requesting items on the menu, the server seemed confused and didn't recognize some items and even asked if he could see the item on the menu, then would tell us he wasn't sure what that was or that they no longer offered that item, this happened 3 items. The drink orders were incorrect, the food orders were incorrect, we received food we didn't order and didn't receive food that we did order keeping in mind we were the only party in the entire restaurant. The drinks were also pretty bad especially for the price, the sushi was not worth the price. It seems like it's gone downhill from the previous location which is disappointing! If they're focused on primarily the nightclub, ditch the restaurant. The worst part in all of this was the manager just watched the server struggle this entire time and didn't help him at all. Overall, I would just not come here, there's several other better places in downtown.

Definitely fell off after they moved locations. To start off there was no one to greet us when we first arrived, we were a bit confused because we could not see anyone. We had to walk all the way in, and then it still took us a few moments to get seated as there seemed to be only one employee working as host/bartender/waiter. The location is much smaller than their old spot, vibes also did not feel the same. We ordered the bang bang puffs as an appetizer and they had a great flavor but were a little cold. Our sushi was also okay. On the bright side the drinks were really great! We got a Crimson Sol and When a Fire Starts to Burn. Overall, pretty disappointed because I had a great experience at the first location and sadly on my second visit it felt like a waste of time.

Service and drinks were amazing!! Would highly recommend when you are traveling to San Diego Gaslight District.

Food was great! We got the hello kitty and bang roll both were fresh and portion sizes were good. Service was amazing hana did a great job explaining where the fish was from and gave us drink recommendations. Drinks were reasonably priced for gaslamp. Great spot in the middle of everything. Our server told us it turns into a club at night but we did not stay.

The new GM was awesome...he is retired military and very attentive to the guests. If you didn't have an awesome experience before, give it another try. The food was very tasty and well displayed. The place has kind of a club vibe...very upbeat. We will definitely be back next time we are in town!

Weird. I don't usually leave reviews unless I feel absolutely compelled to and this Nightmare Before Bar experience was the weirdest thing I've ever witnessed. I feel bad for some of the employees because they seemed so uncomfortable having to host this thing. The host dressed as a bunny was a whole mess. Clearly drunk and sloppy it was comical and awkward at the same time. Drinks weren't good we sent one back - $20 for a 6 piece sushi roll is ridiculous. Our server was nice and fine but the host i could not deal with. We left early it was too embarrassing to watch.

Truly one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a public place. The "Nightmare Before Christmas" theme night made us wait 20 minutes past our ticketed reservation time, the included with ticket "welcome shot" was A) marketed as a thank you for waiting shot, and B) gross. The sushi was okay but we were never given plates, water, soy sauce, or ginger, the drinks were not good. The host was singing (!!!????) during the very forced games as a part of the evening (an awkward trivia round and a scavenger hunt (in a small and crowded restaurant, makes perfect sense)). It was just so weird and SO EXPENSIVE for whatever the f*ck was trying to happen there. Best part was the giant disco ball.

Update: everyone in my party that ate fish is not well and with some food poisoning so even worse of an experience than before. Literally nothing positive to write. Reservation was at 8 pm, by 8:45 pm, they had yet to take our food order. Twice, their bamboo room separator fell on our friend and more times fell as the workers walked past and they never said anything. Once they finally took our order, the food took over an hour. One person's food did not come for another 20 minutes and did not arrive until everyone else was done. One plate of food was forgotten and took another 15 minutes to come out. Ordered a simple drink (vodka cran) that took 20 minutes to come out and then was incorrect. Had to keep asking for water and soy sauce (they gave us a basically empty container). Once the manager came down to talk to us, he was nice at first but quickly grew angry as we let him know what had gone wrong (despite him asking what was wrong). He told one of the women at the table to stop talking when she was expressing concerns (in a non rude way). After we were told they would remove several items from the receipt, they did not and we had to go back and forth with them several times until it was right. Their 20% tip was also calculated based on the total with tax included which is a scam. Sketchy vibes and overall horrible experience.

Absolutely terrible! Food no taste, drinks water down , and then we had a party of 10 but charges 20% tip before any discount! So they charge more for tip that wasn't even worth it! Watch out for this restaurant when you go with a party and how they charge for tip. Tip is not calculated from the subtotal you're paying.

Waitress: Sam The service was absolutely amazing, the atmosphere of the restaurant is great. And the food is excellent. Also the music is so good please keep it up will be back ! Also Sam is a great waitress!!!

I had several good experiences at the old Bang Bang, and despite the awful reviews of this new place, I wanted to give it a try. I came here for the nightclub/lounge only, not for dinner. Ordered a gin and tonic from a grumpy bartender downstairs, and I received a tequila soda. Ordered a vodka cran upstairs, and I was charged over $20. The dance floor was nearly empty on a Saturday night between midnight and 2am. Like others have said, the service is lame, and the drinks are ridiculously overpriced. There's no reason to waste your time and money here. I will not be back. (Note: The five-star review by Byron is the same one he wrote on Google, and he has only one review on Yelp. He's clearly affiliated with the business. Without his review, this place has an average of two stars or fewer.)

We loved the experience at the old location. New location is in prime spot, but felt different. QR menu is great, but our cell reception to pull up the menu wasn't good at the back of restaurant and didn't have WiFi setup yet to connect too. Finally was able to get the menus up on our phones and tried ordering some of their signature drinks but was out of certain liquors including their whiskey flight. Ordered Calamari as an appetizer and came out cold. Sushi boat was good but nothing special but good size for 4 people. Waitress did her best so nothing against her other then getting the calamari out warm. Drinks for 4 took almost 15 mins to be made and they were not that busy. Wish I could write more positive things but don't think we will be back. It's too bad cause we really did like this place before.
