Bang San Diego

I used to go to the original bang bang, whatever they did, they royally messed up. The food is so horrible now, nothing had depth it was all bland, new owner doesn’t give a damn and it shows. Bartender doesnt know how to make a drink. Atmosphere was weird and way worse than the last place. Worst of all it still carries the insane price tag, just nowhere near worth it. The only thing I had that was good were the bang puffs, and that’s an app. They changed too much and it’s clear the new owner doesn’t care

Food at this establishment is a 100% a joke to Japanese Cuisine, and me being part Japanese and lived in the Japan I find it offensive and disrespectful. The General Manager is not real General Manager he has no clue how to run a restaurant , I feel for the employees there . sushi rice is not seasoned properly, sushi not rolled correctly, fried rice has no flavor, tempura chicken wings is not the thing to do, just because you dip something in tempura doesn't make it Japanese at all, nothing fusion about this menu take a look at it and you will see, this place is the worst so called Japanese food I've experienced in 41years #goodlucknexttime.

When I tell you this place feels like you just walked straight into Tokyo! Absolutely stunning decor and every wall is legit a photo op! My girls and I were here for a mini girls trip and ended our trip here! The food is amazing flavorful and there are so many options! The staff from the front to back staff and even the owner are so sweet and accommodating! If you want good vibes, aesthetic feel and good music definitely stop by when you are in the area!!

Aman greeted us out front as soon as we walked in and it was hospitality +101! Ana proceeded to walk us to our table and that was such a warm welcome for me and my lady on date night! We had a wonderful sushi dinner with the bartender/ Cameron taking care of us and overall our night was perfect with team effort of the service staff! I truly hope this place succeeds in gaslight because downtown needs more places like this! Thank you for the evening ✌🏾

I could forgive the music being too loud and the decor being tacky if the food was respectable. Unfortunately, it was not. All the rolls were poorly constructed, the combination of flavors in the custom rolls was overpowering to the point where you couldn’t even detect the presence of seafood. The service was lackluster, our server was distracted and our requests for soy sauce, drinks etc. had to be followed up by somebody else. Won’t return.

Bang was pretty cool. The vibes are strong and it turns into a club after 10pm on the weekend. We came for dinner but didn’t stay for the nightclub experience. The food was just alright and the service was okay. We had fried rice, chicken katsu, and the hello kitty roll. I would probably go back for drinks but would eat dinner elsewhere before

this venue might even be better than the last !! we had such incredible food and drinks and the service was amazing. i had the "cool as a cucumber" cocktail (amazing) and "when the fire starts to burn" cocktail (incredible), the coco chanel roll (fabulous), and the chicken fried rice to share (unreal). highly recommend for food quality and atmosphere !!

Jasmine was so nice to me and my group! Really great service! She made sure the drinks were up to par and insisted on making them excellent. The atmosphere here is nice too We came for my nephew's graduation!! 🧑‍🎓

My girlfriend & I originally came here for their collab with a Halloween pop-up. Unfortunately, the host did not end up coming & surprised all of us by coming an hour later, no communication at all. But the Bang team went above & beyond to ensure that we still had a great time! Very attentive & friendly. Food was delicious, & they honored the drinks promised by the pop-up. Thank you!

Sushi is very good and high quality, I would recommend Kill Bill, Coco Chanel, and Hello Kitty. They are all very good and service with Dom was excellent

Update: everyone in my party that ate fish is not well and with some food poisoning so even worse of an experience than before. Literally nothing positive to write. Reservation was at 8 pm, by 8:45 pm, they had yet to take our food order. Twice, their bamboo room separator fell on our friend and more times fell as the workers walked past and they never said anything. Once they finally took our order, the food took over an hour. One person's food did not come for another 20 minutes and did not arrive until everyone else was done. One plate of food was forgotten and took another 15 minutes to come out. Ordered a simple drink (vodka cran) that took 20 minutes to come out and then was incorrect. Had to keep asking for water and soy sauce (they gave us a basically empty container). Once the manager came down to talk to us, he was nice at first but quickly grew angry as we let him know what had gone wrong (despite him asking what was wrong). He told one of the women at the table to stop talking when she was expressing concerns (in a non rude way). After we were told they would remove several items from the receipt, they did not and we had to go back and forth with them several times until it was right. Their 20% tip was also calculated based on the total with tax included which is a scam. Sketchy vibes and overall horrible experience.

Got the opportunity to stop by at Bang On 5th and it did not disappoint. The place its self is decorated in a modern and cool vibe in there. It has multiple floors with different type of music so anyone can find their groove there. Its pretty amazing they can offer all the different types of music in separate rooms. This place feels open to wonder and explore different vibes in there. The service they offer in there is pretty legit. Although is does get crowded the bars tenders and other staff members do an amazing job. Drinks here are amazing!

Bang Bang changed locations. So we had to Google directions. When we Google Bang Bang. We realized they also change their name to Bang on 5th. We also realized they only had 3 stars. We yelp them and their rate was a lilttle worst. Red flags everywhere. I been craving their Sushi. So we decided to give them a chance. My cousin agreed because most 1 star reviews were about this event they had in Halloween. The new location is pretty cool but nothing close to the old location. Dinning area looks very small. They do have 2 more dinning areas upstairs tho. We place our orders. Sushi was still amazing. Exactly what i was expecting. They even asked us if we would like all the rolls together in a platter. Price a bit too expensive tho. Maybe because of location? I dont know but we had a blast. We are happy with the experience. Good food, beautiful platting & friendly staff.

The food is still in the same style as the old location, I love it. Service a little slow but you could tell they were new guys doing the job but everything else very good!

Holiday drinks and ambience is amazing, service and holidays joy and staff are amazing, will come back again!!

Weird. I don't usually leave reviews unless I feel absolutely compelled to and this Nightmare Before Bar experience was the weirdest thing I've ever witnessed. I feel bad for some of the employees because they seemed so uncomfortable having to host this thing. The host dressed as a bunny was a whole mess. Clearly drunk and sloppy it was comical and awkward at the same time. Drinks weren't good we sent one back - $20 for a 6 piece sushi roll is ridiculous. Our server was nice and fine but the host i could not deal with. We left early it was too embarrassing to watch.

Truly one of the worst experiences I've ever had in a public place. The "Nightmare Before Christmas" theme night made us wait 20 minutes past our ticketed reservation time, the included with ticket "welcome shot" was A) marketed as a thank you for waiting shot, and B) gross. The sushi was okay but we were never given plates, water, soy sauce, or ginger, the drinks were not good. The host was singing (!!!????) during the very forced games as a part of the evening (an awkward trivia round and a scavenger hunt (in a small and crowded restaurant, makes perfect sense)). It was just so weird and SO EXPENSIVE for whatever the f*ck was trying to happen there. Best part was the giant disco ball.

Waitress: Sam The service was absolutely amazing, the atmosphere of the restaurant is great. And the food is excellent. Also the music is so good please keep it up will be back ! Also Sam is a great waitress!!!

Absolutely terrible! Food no taste, drinks water down , and then we had a party of 10 but charges 20% tip before any discount! So they charge more for tip that wasn't even worth it! Watch out for this restaurant when you go with a party and how they charge for tip. Tip is not calculated from the subtotal you're paying.

Food and place is very nice. There's good ambience and also music. Customer service is also great.

I had several good experiences at the old Bang Bang, and despite the awful reviews of this new place, I wanted to give it a try. I came here for the nightclub/lounge only, not for dinner. Ordered a gin and tonic from a grumpy bartender downstairs, and I received a tequila soda. Ordered a vodka cran upstairs, and I was charged over $20. The dance floor was nearly empty on a Saturday night between midnight and 2am. Like others have said, the service is lame, and the drinks are ridiculously overpriced. There's no reason to waste your time and money here. I will not be back. (Note: The five-star review by Byron is the same one he wrote on Google, and he has only one review on Yelp. He's clearly affiliated with the business. Without his review, this place has an average of two stars or fewer.)

We loved the experience at the old location. New location is in prime spot, but felt different. QR menu is great, but our cell reception to pull up the menu wasn't good at the back of restaurant and didn't have WiFi setup yet to connect too. Finally was able to get the menus up on our phones and tried ordering some of their signature drinks but was out of certain liquors including their whiskey flight. Ordered Calamari as an appetizer and came out cold. Sushi boat was good but nothing special but good size for 4 people. Waitress did her best so nothing against her other then getting the calamari out warm. Drinks for 4 took almost 15 mins to be made and they were not that busy. Wish I could write more positive things but don't think we will be back. It's too bad cause we really did like this place before.

This is a close down business. This is not like the Bang Bang at Market we used to go. This is a whole different thing. Food is sad. Slow service when there is no tables.

Do. Not. Come. Here. We tried it when they moved to this location. Outside of the chefs, there isn't one competent person that works there. We came here one night and the long process of ordering and eventually receiving drinks should have been enough to know that these folks are useless. My gf arranged for us to come here on that Halloween themed night. Far far worse experience. We were shuffled downstairs into some bad themed bar that the staff again were worthless. Long story short - our patience ran out after they took forever to acknowledge that we wanted to order food. I truly hope they go out of business soon. Hands down the worst restaurant experience I've had in San Diego at least.

I've never agreed with kristen more. Literally one of the worst experiences I've ever had. There's absolutely no way they made us pay money to go to the "nightmare before bar", made us wait past our ticket time, also pretty sure the awkward trivia game host was hammered and during that horrible scavenger hunt every clue was either missing or stolen. In addition to the most awkward evening, they ran out of almost everything, for being a sushi restaurant the fact that they were out of edamame at the beginning of the night was pretty insane to me. Our table also did not have real plates, soy sauce, and just to top off this magical evening, we pulled wad of HAIR out of the poke wontons. Disgusting. Do not recommend. For bang bang being one of the most elite Asian fusion restaurants in downtown this was so embarrassing.

Was so excited to surprise my fiancé with this bar pop up, that it's Tim Burton was just the cherry on top of a get away to celebrate our anniversary BUT when we show up this was a disappointment it truly feels like a money grab. The games are not set up well, the welcome drinks are horrible quality shoots, and above all the ambience is no where to be found! There is a corner with some nice art but other then that it's a sushi restaurant with black and white sheets on the wall. Did we leave early? Yes Will we have a story to tell later ? Yes but one that starts with " I have to tell you about this horrible bar we went to....."

So many better places in San Diego to see - mirah at the front will ruin your night before going in

Freezing cold first of all. So over priced for mid sushi. The OG bang bang, was way better. I was in shock . Must be new management or something, because wtf. Also how you gonna charge $50 per person on top of the overpriced sushi ???? Don't come here it's not worth.

Amazing atmosphere and great music! This place has a bit for everyone with several floors and a variety of music from hip hop, rap, EDM, and reggaeton. Aman was awesome and really helped our group feel welcome by giving us a tour. The upstairs area and the downstairs areas even have their own bars!! Definitely worth a visit, their table/VIP prices were also very affordable for the area. San Diego natives and visitor will definitely enjoy this spot.

Enjoyed the previous location but now went to the new location for a birthday party and would not go back again. Party of 5 over $500 and would rather take my business elsewhere. Asked for 3 of their specialty cocktails and they did not have the ingredients. No whiskey flight, no whiskey drink, and they also did not have a tequila cocktail. Finally settled on 4 cocktails and it took over 20 minutes to get them. Waitress was very nice but she did not know the menu. No physical menus and no WiFi so it was hard for our party to use only one of our phones that had reception to use their QR code for their online menu. The waitress did offer up her phone but there was no way we were going to let her do that. We actually felt bad for her. It would have been easy to run and get some printed menus and get the alcohol needed to not run down a $40 whiskey flight due to missing ingredients. Very sad since we liked the other spot called Bang Bang and we were loyal customers.

I couldn't take any pictures but the chicken wings were really good, it was the perfect combination between sweet and spicy. Another winner for us was the kill bill, if you like crispy onions, tuna and eel sauce, this is definitely the roll for you. The service here was also really good, loved the vibe as well, kinda takes me back to Japan!

since the move from old bang, i have continued to come to both dinner hrs and club hours. both have been outstanding service. jazzy, the floor manager has always been a delight to interact with and a great host. kevin during club and dinner hours is the most down to earth bartender who works with speed and efficiency. if you love music and love to have a good time. i would highly recommend this place for vibes and ambiance. be sure to check out the upstairs lounge area! p.s. during dinner hours try the "cool as a cucumber" drink for a tasty refresher!

Amazing food. Amazing service. Jazzy is a wonderful manager! I absolutely recommend this to anyone visiting San Diego and it in the heart of gas lamp downtown!

Came to experience the Nightmare After Bar event which got off to a slow start, but the staff did their best to get our drink orders and food orders at the start of event! The Halloween themed drinks were cool and fit the Tim Burton vibe!

Went today after Dia de los Muertos festivities. It was pretty quiet inside but our server was extremely attentive! My friend ordered the passionfruit margarita and the bartender lit it on fire. Would come again.

I used to love the old place.... I travel for work and enjoyed coming here for a few appetizers. This new place is a joke. I will never come back again. You ruined something that didn't need changing.

Unfortunately I can't even write a review on the establishment itself because our reservation was canceled 3 hours before we were meant to arrive. This has been booked for weeks, simple table of 5 for my friend's bachelorette dinner. It's Saturday night, the "big night" and now we are scrambling last minute to find availability elsewhere, on halloweekend. Why did they cancel you ask? Due to a private event that they booked and are having tonight. 3 hours in advance we were informed. This is extremely unprofessional. Continue to turn away customers who could turn into regulars for your big parties and events and see how long you stay in business. Will never recommend this place to anyone, ever.

We should all get our money back for the Nightmare Before "experience." It was the most poorly run event I've ever been to. We waited outside past our ticket time and the only explanation we got for why we couldn't go in was "people are in there"-- huh? I felt bad for the young security man out front-- he was very polite. But, the manager (whoever the random singing woman was in the bar) was very rude when she had to actually answer to why we weren't allowed in during our ticketed time. Once inside they shuffled us upstairs (no decorations) and said to wait until they bring us down. 30 minutes go by and no one comes, so we just walk down and take a seat. The welcome shot was disgusting. The trivia was just a weird jumbled mess. I hope people read this before they buy a ticket. Do NOT fall for the ad that makes it seem awesome. Read these reviews- we all had the same lame experience.

The drinks are horrible and food not much better. Turns into a club later, sounds like their DJ was in 7th grade, pretty sure he blew all their speakers out. To make things worse, only one, single person bathroom was working. Definitely cool design inside but they need to get their act together.

The Nightmare Before pop up bar they had going on was by far the most awful experience I've ever had lol it was SO wack the vibes were so off. The "interactive games" they had were so forced. The drinks weee terrible and also we never got water, plates or sides for our sushi and still paid $150. Excuse me????? They had a plan, but the execution was missed. Badly. The service was also soooooo slow. We left early because we couldn't take it any longer.

The service was not the best, it was empty when we went and the drinks didn't come out for over an hour, the food gave me food poisoning right away. I went for my bday weekend and couldn't drink the rest of the night.

Bang on 5th my fav spot in San Diego! The whole sushi restaurant and club combo is sick. Sushi was very fresh. After dinner, the spot flips into a nightclub with crazy good music. Sound system is amazing. The staff was chill, and the whole vibe is just on another level. Perfect for a night out with friends. Definitely a spot to check out!

Amazing food and so much fun! It is my favorite place to take me out-of-city friends to.

They moved locations and the restaurant went from a 10/10 experience to a 2/10. It actually feels like they lost all funding. Ambience and vibe is dirty and claustrophobic. Waiter was very nice, but even he understood the downgrade this restaurant went through. Would never recommend to family and friends. Very disappointing as we used to love this place
