Thai comfort food with vintage clothes, crab noodles

"Welcome toEast Harlem, and one of Manhattan’s quirkiest restaurants, with a bench made of skateboards, a shelf stacked with vintage denim and jackets for sale, and a giant mirror that reflects the poker-faced owner as he bangs pots and pans around behind a counter, cooking your meal to order. Those clangs are generally drowned out by the old Thai pop songs he’s blasting. Sit at a schoolroom-style table, sip yourBYOBdrink, and wait for him to bring you some crunchy fried chicken and a steaming bowl of noodles, swimming in either a light, lime-y broth, or one that’s creamy with coconut and tangy with tamarind." - Sonal Shah
"Bangklyn is part Thai restaurant and part used clothing store—so if you’ve never eaten shrimp green curry next to a pile of vintage bowling jackets, this is the place to start. The small space has a few tables and a kitchen counter, where the owner prepares light, straightforward Thai comfort food. We usually go for the soothing tamarind coconut milk noodles, especially with crab, and Southern fried chicken covered in crispy shallots. Feel free to check out the hand-picked denim and tees as you wait for your food." - neha talreja, sonal shah, hannah albertine
"This tiny East Harlem restaurant is the only place we know where you can browse through shelves of vintage denim clothing, listen to Thai psychedelic rock, and drink BYOB beer with your friends while waiting for your food. Bangklyn’s owner—who, among other things, founded a vintage clothing fair in Bangkok—cooks dishes to order behind a counter, and though the menu is short and mostly geared towards takeout, you’ll find plenty to fill your table and satisfy your hunger too. Get the fried tofu or chicken, and the tamarind noodles with crab, and add on a few more dishes depending on how many people you bring. It’s an unusually lo-fi, hand-crafted spot for Manhattan, and it feels like it belongs in a version of NYC that’s still for the dreamers." - sonal shah, bryan kim, willa moore, will hartman, molly fitzpatrick, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, sonal shah, will hartman, willa moore, bryan kim, will hartman, bryan kim, sonal shah, willa moore, sonal shah, will hartman, neha talreja, neha talreja, sonal shah
