"Bangkok Bento serves Thai and Japanese food and is great for a quick, casual bite. The extensive menu is a crowd-pleaser and the seasonal patio is particularly fun for people-watching. From stir-fries to curries to sushi, dine-in or take-out are both solid options here." - Anna Darrow

I recently visited Bangkok Bento and I was so impressed! The store is on the negative floor and is rather crowded and dim. The staff was more friendly and attentive, and we were only able to sit outdoors despite our reservation. It was so cold outside that it gave us some mood swings. The absolute highlight was the food. I tried their Pad Thai, duck curry, pineapple fried rice, and mango sticky rice. The flavors were rich and beautifully presented, and there wasn't a single dish that wasn't delicious. I noticed some unique seasonal specialties that I can't wait to try on my next visit. Overall, Bangkok Bento offers a delightful take on traditional Thai cuisine. Highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area!

Google
The most underrated Thai / Sushi restaurant! One might wonder about how good the place is because it serves two cuisines simultanously and generally, restaurants that do so usually come up short. This place is the great exception. Our perennial faves after being here 10x since 20 August 2024 were the crispy pork basil (ask to add chinese broccoli~extra charge applies~ and make it spicy), spicy drunken noodles (we like it with beef) and the white dragon rolls. Their tofu triangles and fried ice cream were recent favorites. Menu is huge and I glimpsed fellow returning patrons so am sure there are other items there that are just waiting for us to try and add to our fave list as well.

Wow. Loads of succulent roast duck included with the Panang Curry. Duck was juicy and lightly crispy, delightful. Level-five spicy had a great zing, just enough to start the heat sniffles. Loved it. Even a few hotter levels on a future trip would be awesome. Would love to come back if I'm in the area again. Huge menu of interesting selections and everything I saw coming from the kitchen looked really inviting. Kudos! Quick seating for two on a Saturday night just after 6pm, but it filled up quickly by 6:30 with a small gathering of eager eaters waiting for tables. It's worth the wait.

Google
Sushi was amazing! Delicious, came out quick, plated beautifully and with an outstanding fresh texture and flavors!! Well recommend I got Panang Curry (Thai Hot) and it was… interesting! Good but not amazing, I think next time when I get it, I’ll order it without the baby corn, or added pineapple But they had sticky rice (not the dessert, so normal glutinous rice) and that was great!

Google
We really liked Bangkok Bento, but the reason we gave them a 4 is because the entrees simply weren’t close to as good as the appetizers. The appetizers were delicious, we got the crispy brussels sprouts and the Thai pancakes which were both incredibly flavorful and yummy. The pad Thai was really mid and stomach ache inducing. The red curry mix was actually good but the crispy pork that I added to it had a strange texture and didn’t seem fresh. A good vibe in here as well as good service so we will definitely be back to give it another try.

Google
If you enjoy spicy food, this is the place to try! The basil roasted duck is absolutely delicious, though the stir-fried noodles weren’t as impressive. Overall, the dishes are quite spicy, so be ready for some heat!

Google
We went to Bangkok Bento in a large group. It’s a small restaurant, however, I liked the atmosphere there. The service was good and the food was delicious. We waited a bit long for our order but we were satisfied with our food. It is worth to visit here again and taste other foods.

Google
Got the crispy duck and the yellow curry. I think I would’ve went with a spicier curry next time, but overall good flavor and decent portion size. The crispy duck was the icing on the cake tho. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I think this place is great if you are shopping on newbury st.

Yelp
Had a hankering for sushi and wanted to sit outside on a warm summer evening. This was the perfect spot! We tried 4 rolls and the crab Rangoon. Philadelphia was okay, I wish it had cucumber on it - no crunch. Spicy crab was good. Boston was great. And the SpongeBob was suuuuper good, loved the mango on top. Also, the cranberry crab Rangoons - had never heard of that combo before, it was heavenly! Service here was very good. Loved sitting out on Newberry. We were sat next to a very judgemental table of 4 who stared us down all night probably because we got so much sushi - it was a tight squeeze for our small table for 2. Meanwhile they were putting chopsticks in their mouths like the kid from Freaky Friday. So thanks for all that stink eye if you're reading this, freaks.

Yelp
3rd night of biz trip-I had just had a disappointing exp with Thai food last night so I was a bit worried when my coworkers picked this place. I ordered: Crispy basil pork: pretty decent portion and comes with rice. The flavor, however, was lacking. Not particularly strong in basil or traditional stir fry flavors. The pork pieces are few and tiny. Half way through this was basically a vegetarian dish. Again I didn't really taste any wokhei which I thought was essential for stir fried dishes Thai tea: was ok, like from the Thai place I had the previous night, I was surprised by the sweetness level, maybe I'm just more used to a heavier flavor Fried ice cream: my first time having this and is pretty much what the name says, it felt kind of similar to a ice cream sandwhich in a ball form, came w a strawberry sauce and wasn't bad I also had a bite of sushi that a coworker ordered and it tasted slightly fishy, not super bad. Also the sushi roll had rice inside the center of the roll. The amount of fish and ingredients rolled were so small that if you split the sushi down the middle, half of the roll would only have rice. Never seen that before, we had a good laugh. Overall, similar disappointment to the thai place I had the night before but I'm happy to be going home to greater flavors

Yelp
I gave this place a second chance, and it still is only "OK." There is nothing like the old Beantown regarding service, taste, or ambiance. Service- I stood at the front, where the hostess failed to acknowledge me. Being busy is understandable, but it is common practice to at least nod and recognize, especially in such a small, confined, low-ceiling space. These features of the space I overlooked for at least five years because Beantown's staff made the experience so pleasant. The music is very loud, which again, considering the low ceiling, makes the space too energetic and unrelaxing. The server never stopped by to check if the food was ok as it is customary. Food- The ginger stir fry was generous in vegetables, not so on shrimp (only three). But the biggest factor was the watery sauce which diluted any flavor. Also, if I wanted watery, I would have ordered soup. I first visited this place when they had just opened and the food was not great. It has improved but now the service is lacking/unwelcoming.

Yelp
I just walked there to pick up a roll to for dinner. It is a very small establishment, but had a lovely and warm atmosphere. The staff was delightful and the sushi was fresh and delicious! I ordered the Sakura Roll.

Hashid H.

Yelp
The staff was very kind and helpful. The ambiance is very inviting and warm. They have wifi, the password is on the counter near the kitchen. The food is okay. I had the beef green curry and green tea. Both were alright. The people working were incredibly kind and gentle. The prices were fair for Boston. The establishment is very clean. They have indoor seating as well as a small outdoor seating.

Selena H.

Yelp
We found this highly rated tiny cute underground (outdoor space available) restaurant on Newbury street. We were amazed by how authentic foods are!!! To be honest, I hate ginger and there were a lot in fried rice, but it was harmonized in pleasant way in dishes so it didn't bother me or overwhelmed. I also understand that asian foods use lots of ginger so it was understandable. Sauces and spices were really authentic that it's definitely hard to find somewhere else in Boston. It is really a hidden gem asian restaurant in town! Staffs were nice and sweet too

Karen I.

Yelp
Decided to check this place out on Newbury street for dinner! We were surprisingly pleased, would come back here again for sure. The service was great, the lady that was our server was extremely kind and friendly! Fried hot dog: this sounded interesting so we ordered this dish. Nothing crazy special but it did taste good! They're basically fried sausages with chili dip sauce. Chicken basil fried rice: probably wouldn't get again. The rice was a little mushy and the flavor was nothing special or amazing. Crispy Pork Basil: AMAZING!!! tasted sooo good. We really enjoyed this dish a lot. Would definitely get again, crispy and flavorful dish. You can adjust spiciness as you like!

Taeyoon K.

Yelp
If you're looking for Thai food in Boston, I highly recommend this place. It offers the best flavors and portions in the city. Any dish labeled as "crispy" is truly outstanding. The sauce is delicious, but the crispy texture paired with the fried rice is a perfect combination. The owner's kindness is an added bonus; she reminds me of a mother who always wants to give you more.

Zachary T.

Yelp
Great food, fun ambiance, very friendly and helpful service. Mainly Thai dishes and some sushi rolls on the side was a nice combo

Kelly P.

Yelp
Needed something to warm me up and a cup of hot tea sounded delish when my friend and I stumbled upon this restaurant. We didn't make reservations but we were still seated immediately. It's cozy and warm inside too! They offer a large and diverse menu and I really wanted to try everything! Needing to warm up, I ordered the drunken noodles and they were delish! I wish they offered tea pots instead of just a cup, but the tea was yummy as well.

Ron B.

Yelp
I had a wonderful lunch of beef pad thai and crispy wings! The service was fast and efficient. So yummy!

Hila O.

Yelp
Very good restaurant and service! We had the Tom yum soup Drunken noodles krispy duck Spicy crab rool Everything was delicious! Highly recommend!

Sarah K.

Yelp
Very low quality and tasteless food. Ordered stir fry with rice and a sushi roll. Both are tasteless and drenched in oil and sauce. Dinner portion is puny, so little for $30. Absolute rip off and do not recommend it, what is up with the reviews? They must not know what Asian food is supposed to taste like. Huge disappointment. Customer service was mediocre.

Sara Jieyi T.

Yelp
I was very excited to come here as the pictures on Google looked very good!! But sadly I left with a slight disappointment. First off, I really liked the yellow tail maki we got, they torched the yellowtail and it was delicious. However, their crispy duck with peanut sauce entree was very flavorless. The entire fish was very blend, and it felt like they just boiled it in water and have customers relied on the little peanut sauce for flavor for the entire dish and it was definitely not enough. Their entrees were quite pricey given the ok quality they're giving you. They have both indoor and outdoor seatings and service was good. Food: 7/10 Experience: 7.5/10 Service: 8/10 Value: 6.9/10 Experience:

Yelp
Incredible food and even better vibes. Perfect spot for a fun warm lunch. I loved it here. Good service. Sushi wasn't the best but the cyu was great and so was the chicken wings.

Caroline S.

Yelp
Great spot for Thai food! It's a small hole in the wall on Newbury St, but they offer both indoor and outdoor seating. Service is super attentive and kind, and the interior is cozy and cute. We ordered the berry crab rangoon, tom yum noodle soup, and massaman curry. All were DELICIOUS and super flavorful. The crab rangoon were a nice change of pace. The berry sauce made it a nice sweet and salty treat. It was also a good ratio of crunch to filling and the salad that came with it was a delicious nutty and fresh complement. The tom yum noodle soup is probably one of the best I've had in Boston so far. The taste of the soup base is really authentic and all of the toppings round out the dish. The massaman curry was the only dish that I was a bit disappointed by. Flavors were good, but it was a bit sweet for me. The soft shell crab was also a bit greasy so I'd stay away from that going forward. Overall, their food is super tasty. The prices are on par with other Newbury St restaurants (a bit on the pricey side), but you will definitely have a good meal.

Yerina K.

Yelp
I didn't really expect much when I first walked into this place because of the sign and how small it was, but honestly the taste of the dishes were pretty solid! I was only disappointed because of the quantity of the food compared to its price. It was way too pricey for the quantity of food given (felt like a snack) even thought the food itself was tasty. We paid $80 for pad thai, few sashimi slices, and a bento. The service was also just a little inefficient because the waiter forgot our dish and we were waiting a bit on it (it wasn't that busy too). If you're looking for a more expensive date night for simple food, this would be a good place to go because the vibes in there is pretty nice in the evening! I wouldn't come back though.

Chelsea M.

Yelp
Visited Bangkok Bento on a Tuesday evening. I was seated immediately although it was pretty busy inside the restaurant. The restaurant itself is not specifically beautiful as it has more of a hole in the wall aesthetic however it does have a cute little patio with outdoor seating that is nice. The menu is expansive as it includes Thai and Japanese dishes with options to cure any craving. I ordered the Raspberry Crab Rangoon and Miso soup to start. The miso soup was warm and had a good amount of tofu inside great as a starter. The real star however was the crab Rangoon. I'll admit I was nervous because of the raspberry but it was sooo good! The raspberry added a pleasant sweetness that kept me going back. Next I ordered the Tom Kha Gai which was also delicious - perfectly balanced a little spicy, savory and sweet. Would order again and again. As far as sushi I ordered the Sea of Love roll and the crunchy roll. Because it was pretty busy my rolls took a while to come out. The server/manager came to give updates often and she apologized profusely. She comped a few drinks - the Thai iced tea and the Thai Pink Milk. I am not a fan of Thai Tea but my friend did enjoy it. The Pink milk was tasty - taste similar to strawberry milk. the Sea of Love roll was delicious, if you like tuna this is the roll for you! The Crunchy roll was tasty - if you like deep fried rolls you will love this. Overall I would definitely add this as a comfort food favorite. Perfect for a rainy or sick day.

Joyce K.

Yelp
Two words: Khao soi. Absolute perfection in a bowl! We came on a Friday night and the inside of the restaurant was a little crowded/stuffy so we sat on their outdoor patio, which was small but nice. The menu is an interesting mix of Thai food and sushi (is it just me or are there more and more of these cross-cultural restaurants popping up?). My friends got the pad Thai and I got the Khao soi. Everything tasted awesome and came with generous portions. A very welcome addition to the Newbury St lineup.

Olivia S.

Yelp
crowded place, and it's small inside so your sitting really close to other people. lots of menu options, pad thai was pretty good. the tofu was good.

Adina S.

Yelp
My friends and I were looking for a quick Thai lunch and this place delivered. We didn't have a reservation, but we were able to get a table right away. The waitress took our order promptly and the food was ready in a reasonable timeframe. The vibes at the restaurant were nice, with good lighting and a decent amount of seating for Newbury Street. The menu had lots of options including sushi, but we just went with Thai for simplicity. We ordered Vegetables spring rolls and a bunch of entreés to share as a table. We got a nice mix of noodle, rice and curry dishes, all of which were delicious. I think my favorite dish had to be the Drunken Noodles, which had a great flavor and the perfect consistency. Next time I'm in the area and craving Thai food, I would definitely consider revisiting this place!

Mike L.

Yelp
Best Thai I have ever had! Drunken noodles, yellow curry and fried rice were so fresh. The Japanese sashimi was so fresh as well!

Isabelle W.

Yelp
I can't believe this incredible place didn't have a profile on Yelp, so here's to the beginning of 5 stars! This place is the best Asian restaurant in Boston. Not only for its amazing food, but its amazing service as well! You're greeted and seated very quickly every time by a friendly waiter/waitress, who'll welcome you back warmly if s/he's seen you before. The food is a hit, no matter what you get, and even if it wasn't a hit, you'll leave happy knowing the restaurant will take any criticism you give them and apply it to future dishes. When they first opened, my friend gave them a critique that their crispy pork was too crispy, that it had too much breading for the amount of meat. The next time we ordered crispy pork, it was perfect. It opened a few months ago, and my friends and I have gone over 10 times. The outside is a cute green area with flowers wrapped around the restaurant's railings. After descending a few stairs, you can sit inside where it's always bustling with patrons. Their prices are reasonable, and their portions are reasonable or huge! They also currently have a deal where, if you review them on Google and show them, you get 15% off! If you look them up on Google, you can see just how much people have loved it. Please show this restaurant and its staff all the love they deserve! They're incredible attentive and passionate about their restaurant and its food. Can't wait to see how it grows as it establishes itself more :)

Hansel B.

Yelp
Casual dinner spot on newbury st. I didn't have high expectations coming into this place. I assume if a place has a neon sign advertising sushi that I won't enjoy the sushi. There is nothing wrong with the food here, but there's also nothing I found special. I ordered one of the thai curries, it was ok, not much depth of flavor and no real spice (I requested spicy). We had a few appetizers, but again nothing had much flavor and relied on dipping sauces to bring anything to the dishes. the service is friendly and prompt. I would avoid tables near the entrance (in winter), when someone comes in there is a huge draft that immediately comes in and it gets annoying. Thankfully I was able to move shortly after we arrived.

Allie S.

Yelp
Alright Thai food on Newbury St. They have a large menu covering sushi, bento, and plenty of Thai dishes which is sometimes not a good sign. Prices were high for Thai food but that's to be expected for the area. I had the crispy chicken pad thai which was okay but nothing exceptional. While the staff was super attentive the kitchen was slow for most orders despite the restaurant not being very busy.

Ilene H.

Yelp
Incredible food, wonderful atmosphere and the service is excellent. Highly recommend trying the rangoon, the sashimi bento box and the fried tofu. I can't say enough good things about how incredible the Brussels Sprouts are... omg.

Phuong L.

Yelp
The Khao Soi and Pad Thai were amazing! Hands down one of the best pad thais we ever had. I just wished the chicken on the pad thai was more crispy but it's okay! Still very good. The khao soi broth was creamy and flavorful.

Brent S.

Yelp
Sat outside on the small patio which was nice. Inside really crowded and loud. Food was tasty and didn't take too long to be served.

Kristine Z.

Yelp
Very cute restaurant and we managed to walk in with four people for dinner without wait by coming around 6 pm. The menu is huge with a Thai food side and a Japanese food side. The food was quite flavorful and portions were ok - the sauce with the duck drunken noodles was nicely tangy and not too sweet. There were also a few vegetarian options. The staff weren't too attentive but they were pretty busy and it wasn't a concern. I would definitely come back to try one of their specials or bentos.

Jim K.

Yelp
More than meets the eye! Walking along Newbury Street and almost walked past this Gem of a place! The ambiance is dimly lit, the seating arrangements are smartly arranged to maximize the space. Oh, and the food - Delicious!! The service was attentive even when busy and I appreciated how satisfied I was afterwards. The menu is detailed and you cannot go wrong with the fresh sushi or the Thai food that was prepared quickly. Very pleased!

Dinesh G.

Yelp
The food was delicious, service was good and fast. The crispy fried rice was little bland for my friends taste bud, otherwise the food was delicious. I would recommend the avalado rolls on a nice summer afternoon. It's refreshing and fresh. Has lot of cucumber, avalado and basil.

Jonah X.

Yelp
Went with a few friends here- overall great time! The duck noodle soup was rich and the duck meat was plentiful and very tender. The noodles were also super tasty and cooked to perfection. Service was quick despite the large group and servers were kind. I also enjoyed the dimly-lit ambiance with candles at each table- it created a comfortable and more intimate atmosphere. Wonderful gem down Newbury!

Chu H.

Yelp
One of my go to restaurants on Newbury St. I enjoy their tom yum soup and I typically order the drunken noodle. I also tried their chicken noodle soup, too. I am a fan of this spot. It is cozy and the service is great. I recommend!

Denna D.

Yelp
The food was pretty mediocre. We got the sushi, (spicy tuna and J.B. roll) as well as this nigiri (salmon, toro, quail egg). The sushi rolls were weirdly a little warm and the spicy tuna didn't have much flavor. The nigiri were better, but nothing to write home about. Mediocre Boston sushi. The crab rangoons were good but also lacked crab, mostly just cream cheese with a berry in it (flavor wise it was good). The biggest disappointment, and what led me to write this review, was the calamari. This was the squishiest, strangest texture i've ever had for calamari. We couldn't finish it. Unfortunately they were out of the thai pancakes (which we were supposed to order). I've heard good things about the thai menu, but wouldn't recommend the Japanese side. You can definitely get better elsewhere! Ambiance was nice and staff is very kind, it's truly just the food that is disappointing.

Ethan R.

Yelp
Party boat!!! Delicious food and amazing service! Highly recommend! Miso soup was also delicious.

Rongan C.

Yelp
Fun new sushi and Thai comfort food spot on Newbury St. Nonfussy, quick and polite service. And the fish is so fresh!

Sonya F.

Yelp
Mmmm yummy Thai food on newbury! We stopped here for dinner because it's probably the most affordable place there, and I wasn't disappointed in the food. My curry was full of flavor and suchhh a big portion I had to save it for later. However, service was a little slow (maybe because we were outside or they were very busy) and we didn't get our food for a while. It was also hard to get the servers attention since we were outside, but this is probably a me issue. Otherwise, the Thai iced tea was good as expected, and the noodles are sure to fulfill your Thai food cravings!

Annie H.

Yelp
I've been here twice now and look forward to coming back again! Their menu has a wide range of options, you could try something new every time. I personally am pretty basic and enjoy a good pad thai. I am also a huge fan of their berry crab rangoons. The atmosphere is upscale but casual at the same time. I love how even though it's a small place, the way they've designed their interior makes it not feel crowded! I would definitely recommend coming by. One of the better places to eat on Newbury St.

Britt G.

Yelp
Holy Toledo this place is off the hook! The food was insane!!! We had the best sashimi ever and the slices are huge! We also went bonkers for the steamed dumplings. The dipping sauce was very good!

Stuart P.

Yelp
Stopped in for quick lunch while in Boston. Wife had Tom Kha Gai BB Salad. I chose red curry. Food was very nice, reasonable value and satisfying. The restaurant is on Newbury St. down some narrow steps and is small and basic. Definitely not a tablecloth place.

Olgert B.

Yelp
Very good Thai food and great service. Their location is also neat and worth checking out. It's not necessarily the best Thai you'll ever have, but it's high in quality.

Bea T.

Yelp
Delicious chicken soup! A charming Thai food restaurant in the basement brownstone... such a cute place. It's relatively new, small with sparkling chandeliers, clean and chic. I highly recommend anybody who just wants a quick fix for Thai food but to sit there and dine. I ordered a green jasmine tea and thought it was charming for them to serve it in a very modern tea cup.

Hanna L.

Yelp
this was some of the best sushi i have ever had. we had the sakura roll, spongebob roll, tuna tataki, and tuna sashimi and they were all 1000/10!!! also the servers were sooooo nice and lovely, and i highly recommend sitting outside! the thai iced tea was amazing too :)

Cynthia Z.

Yelp
Overrated Good - papaya salad very good but not the add-on sticky rice Good - crispy duck mango curry (no pic) Terrible - sushi and sashimi (no pic), DO NOT ORDER, super dry and stinky Terrible - sticky rice

Mackenzie V.

Yelp
Small place, this soup that i ordered is basically a less sweet beef pho which is always solid, and i liked the beef it was pretty tender. I will say my friend didn't like her dish and ended up re-ordering it though.

Kelly D.

Yelp
Two stars is for the service. The staffs were attentive and friendly. But the quality of the food was a big disappointment. Thai fried rice was too sweet and the rice was soggy. Pad-see-ew had so many small pieces of egg shells. Maine Roll (aka lobster sushi roll) didn't taste anything like the lobster rolls I had at other sushi restaurants. Not quite sure if they actually used real lobster meat because it tasted very dry like rubber and it also had a weird smell like it's been fried by used frying oil many times. Miso ramen was a biggest joke. I'd rather they named this dish as wonton noodle soup. They used the same egg noodle that usually comes with wonton soup. The broth tasted nothing like miso. Beef noodle soup and Tom yum soup were ok. But I've had better at the authentic Thai restaurants. Tako nigiri was also ok, nothing special. Overall, their food was pricey but the quality isn't there.

Terrence P.

Yelp
Honesty I never leave a review but their are a few things I would like to say about this place. I came here for lunch the service was mediocre. The real issue is that the Thai fried wings I ordered came raw. The papaya bento was mainly composed of iceberg lettuce. The papaya salad tasted more like pickled radish. Where I was seated the ac vent was leaking water onto my food. The waiter wasn't attentive but I believe in tipping so she got her tip but I'd recommend staying away from here.

Krystal V.

Yelp
Food was so good! I took a friend who was visiting and she still reminds me of the scallion pancake (which is more shaped like onigiri) My friend and I were sat quickly, but once we were set it took a long while (20-25 mins) for us to be able to put our order in. That said, once we did it came out super fast! We were sooo satisfied-- and plan to go again! :)

Brad K.

Yelp
Great place for sushi and some great Thai food! Stopped in for lunch on my recent trip to Boston and loved it. I will be back!
