The 11 Best Hotels to Book in Bangkok, Thailand

"An eight-room adults-only bed-and-breakfast repurposed from a former publishing house on Lan Luang Road that doubles as a small museum: the property celebrates its printing heritage with antique presses, rare magazine archives and retro arcade games, while original features like the wire-cage elevator and timeworn leather furnishings lend nostalgic charm. Modern comforts—gel mattress toppers, a rooftop Jacuzzi tub—and the hotel’s role in spurring nearby cafés such as Eden’s and Alex & Beth make it a stylish, old-school-yet-contemporary bolthole in Rattanakosin." - Chris Schalkx

Bangkok Publishing Residence | Best places to stay in Bangkok

"Taking over a row of 1960s shophouses in the atmospheric Old Town, Bangkok Publishing Residence is the brainchild of Panida Tosnaitada, a young-gun hotelier whose family used to run a publishing business from the same building. She swapped the printing presses for supremely comfortable guest rooms with mod-cons such as micro-gel mattress toppers and Bluetooth speakers, but whispers of the building’s former past can still be found in the lobby, which doubles as a museum showcasing printing paraphernalia and vintage editions of popular Thai magazines. What makes this hotel truly shine, though, is the immaculate attention to detail. Guests have access to a rooftop Jacuzzi tub in lieu of a pool, and while the hotel’s kitchen closes for lunch and dinner, the amiable staff happily helps you order from nearby restaurants. First impressions: like stepping back in time, into a museum. The history of this small boutique hotel ( a former publishing company) is evident in every corner, and the display of artefacts is thoughtful and elegant. The owner, Panida, is proud of her family’s legacy and there are personal touches here and there, and you can have a tour with detailed explanations and insights. Makes you feel proud too, of her efforts to preserve the family’s heritage. ||The hospitality is excellent- thank you Alice for your commitment to making our stay comfortable and enjoyable. We were given a flyer to explain the hotel’s location in Thai- this proved helpful so many times! Location in the Old Town is good, short walk to KhaoSan Road and short ride to Grand Palace, MBK, etc. ||The rooms are incredible- the attention to detail and thoughtfulness of what a traveller requires/desires was impressive and appreciated. The mattress was THE BEST I have ever slept on, and the pillows were truly next level. Best sleep after the long days. Loved the minibar and snacks, replenished daily. The custom-designed complementary toiletries were almost too beautiful to use, toilets and shower great. Excellent water pressure. Gorgeous elegant wooden decor in the bedrooms also. Earplugs are offered, presumably because it’s on a busy road, but I didn’t need them..blackout curtains were excellent. Electronic devices catered for. |The dining room contains a piano and a musical corner, a collection of instruments.. the artwork on the walls is taken from pages of the magazines published by the company back in the day. Elsewhere throughout the place there is interesting artwork with details of the artists. |You could take the stairs or ride in an old-fashioned “cage” elevator- a real treat! There was also a rooftop outdoor space with a jacuzzi..so refreshing. An organic garden also, providing food and fruits for the freshly made juices.|Also on the top level, a games room/library, which provided light entertainment. The adults-only rule is totally appreciated and understandable- not just for peace and quiet in a small hotel but also to protect the space and artefacts.||The lack of a restaurant, lounge, all the five star things did not detract from our experience at all.. we don’t need all the bells and whistles. We really enjoyed the small-hotel vibe and personalised vibe, and getting to know the management. |Very highly recommend this lovely place to anyone who is interested in a touch of history and who can appreciate the understated elegance and thoughtful touches. Five out of five stars for us. We will definitely come back. Thank you BPR for making our stay so memorable!

This is a truly special place. We LOVED our stay and are so grateful to the incredible staff for all the ways they helped us out (staying up late to check us in past midnight, getting up at 4am to call us a taxi when we left, great restaurant and shopping recommendations, etc!). The space is so unique and really cool. Beautiful decor with a lot of history behind it. Our room was super cozy - plenty of space, big wonderful tub, very comfy king bed. Location is along a pretty busy street, but it wasn't noisy for us. It's very central, which is great - 10-20 minute cab or tuk tuk rides to so many great destinations. Bangkok Publishing Residence is one of a kind! Highly recommended.

This was a great hotel! It was quiet and peaceful, and very good location for seeing things in the museum/historic district. The staff at the hotel were very helpful: giving directions, mailing postcards, etc. ||I see that some previous guests have complained about street noise, but we really didn't hear any from the second floor. Our stay was extremely peaceful and relaxing!

We stayed here for 3 nights in Feb 2023. It is a unique hotel being a former publishing house, so retains a lot of character with the decor and quite unlike a lot of other Bangkok hotels. The hotel is clean and well maintained. It is also close (c30min walk) to the main sights of Wat Pho, the Grand Palace. The beautiful Golden Mount is 5 mins away, and well worth visiting. |The quality of food at breakfast is good but restrictive in that you have to select what you would like to eat the morning before, and also at what time you plan on eating (there are few options). This is an unusual arrangement, especially considering there did not appear to be many other guests staying at the hotel. |The main downside of this hotel is undoubtedly the noise. We were given earplugs by the receptionist on being shown the room and even these were ineffective. The hotel is situated on a busy Bangkok road where traffic through the night was a constant. This meant a good night's sleep was elusive. Moreover, we could hear the guests in the room above scraping furniture and making noise during the early hours. ||Overall, this was not a totally unpleasant hotel stay but you definitely need to be mindful of the noise.

My wife and I recently spent three nights at the BPR, and it was an experience bordering on perfection. This was our third visit to Bangkok, and we desired a retreat from the bustling Sukhumvit area. Choosing this serene yet conveniently accessible part of town proved to be the wisest decision we made. BPR may not cater to everyone's taste, but for those travellers who cherish history and yearn to immerse themselves in the essence of old Bangkok, this residence is an ideal haven. This is not a conventional five-star hotel; instead, it offers a more private and intimate experience. It’s crucial for potential guests to understand and respect that BPR operates as a residence, not a typical hotel. Adherence to house rules and mindfulness of its unique setting are essential. I wouldn’t recommend BPR to everyone, but I fervently encourage those who appreciate and enjoy such unique experiences to consider it. A special note of gratitude goes to Alice, who was consistently accommodating and attentive, ensuring our stay was memorable. We shall undoubtedly return!

I have been fortunate to be able to travel a lot, and I absolutely love small, unique, boutique hotels ... and Bangkok Publishing Residence has to be one of my absolute favorite hotels I have ever stayed in over the course of my 15+ years of traveling! I cannot find a single thing to fault. ||||The staff is absolutely lovely - helpful but not intrusive, and asked all the right questions to ensure we had a good stay. When I had confusion between the room rates on Booking.com and the rates on their website, they kindly adjusted my room rate to the cheapest one, which they didn't have to do, and it was very very nice of them and very appreciated!||Because our flight was too early the next morning to avail ourselves of breakfast, the staff put together a really delicious breakfast to-go that was ready for us at 7 am - scrambled eggs, croissants, smoked salmon, fruit ... they didn't skimp!||||The decor is amazing, unique, charming, beautiful - it pays homage to its heritage as a publishing house and to its Thai location with gorgeous use of plants and greenery. They have art on the walls and actually tell you who the artist is so that the artist gets credit and you know it's real, it's not just some corporatized print. ||||They have thoughtful, wonderful touches like a game room with arcade games - SO fun!! - and a beautiful, tranquil rooftop with a hot tub that was just a lovely lovely place to hang out. ||||The location is in the middle of everything, but somehow still quiet. They've thought of everything, from earplugs for the road noise (which we didn't find bad at all, so we didn't even use the earplugs) to a basket of yummy snacks in the room, to fruit and juice and great-smelling soaps. ||||The bed was SUMPTUOUS - sank into that thing like a cloud. They didn't skimp on the quality of the bedlinens. ||||The bathroom was spacious and well-decorated, the tub was lovely, the water pressure was good.||||I would highly, highly recommend this hotel to anyone passing through Bangkok and especially to lovers of unique, small, boutique hotels.

This place was a delight to stay at. The rooms are so beautiful and the design of the whole place feels antique. The history behind the building is seen through relics of the past, posters and more. The beds were comfy and the staff was super friendly.
