The Best Vietnamese Restaurants in Los Angeles | Eater LA

"The original Tay Ho restaurant opened in Orange County’s Little Saigon back in 1986 and served bánh cuốn — delicate rice flour crepes filled with ground pork and wood-ear mushrooms. Fast-forward to 2022, and the eldest granddaughter of Tay Ho’s founder has modernized the brand and brought it to Los Angeles. While the house-special bánh cuốn is rightfully famous, it’s the fish sauce wings that surprise and dazzle." - Cathy Chaplin

My previous experience with Vietnamese cuisine was limited to Pho, so I was eager to explore new dishes. The ham didn't quite appeal to me, as its texture reminded me of uncooked spam; frying it might have improved its taste. The classic rice crepes, while decent, could have used more filling and flavor. My favorite was the sweet potato fritter, despite it being a bit too crunchy. Overall, I enjoyed this food but to be honest I don’t think I’ll be back.

Self-serve kiosk and then the food comes out directly to your table. The prices are about $12 per plate, but the portions are small. The food is pictured on a plate like the traditional banh cuon, but it comes out with the food segregated (pictured), making the eater experience difficulty mixing and blending. My lychee drink came with 3/4 ice in the cup… Nevertheless, thank you Tay Ho for the meal!

I ordered the vegetarian noodle salad with tofu and varietal mushrooms (a very excellent variety) and it was delicious! It also came with bean sprouts, basil, cucumber, slaw, and your choice of spicy or mild dipping sauce. I went with spicy and it was perfect (not too spicy IMO). I was also pleasantly surprised because instantly after ordering I regretted that I had ordered a 'salad' since I thought it was going to be cold. I started to think I should have ordered a hot plate, but turns out the noodle salad is a warm dish and Ioved it. I wish I had more of an appetite because I was also eyeing the chicken wings. Next time! P.S. The staff was friendly and courteous.

It was early in the afternoon that we went in. We were the only customer at that time but we were attended to right away. It was our first time so the person at the counter patiently explained to us their dishes and suggested what their best dish were. I had the Banh Mi sandwich. My family went for the com-chicken and the Tay Ho Banh Cuon set. All of it was great, a Vietnamese fusion I may say. Service was great, the place is clean and so is the restroom. Would definitely come back and recommend to family and friends.

Cool a new place ! Interesting to see a different style of how Vietnamese food is served. They have these boxes they put the food in and my order actually came in a tote bag to go. I’m assuming it may be a grand opening thing. Either or the place looked clean and well lit but the location is a a bit hidden by Gen Korean bbq. Food The food was pretty decent for the price. I’m used to some other places that may have a bit more flavor, but I do appreciate how this place seems a bit “healthier” to me. (Not as oily as other places) What we tried was: Mi Xao Garlic Noodle with filet mignon- this dish was pretty good, garlic noodle was packed w garlic and it had some fresh vege on the side. I wished the beef was not as cooked or I believe it may be more juicier. Bun - Vegetarian - this was quite refreshing compared to other places we have tried Viet style Chicken Wings - skin was still crispy, decent, and not too dry or too wet. Shrimp and Sweet potato Fritters- I believe this was one of the highlight dishes, that my wife and daughter enjoyed. They believe it could have a bit more flavor but loved the “funnel cake” like texture. Thai Tea with crystal boba- this was one of my highlights as the crystal boba was good, and the Thai tea for once was not overall sweet. Would order this again. The order process was quite fast, and they also do have a website. It was a bit complicated to order at first but after we checked the website it was more clear on what each order was. Again the style was interesting. Definitely worth a try to experience the food with the box and the tote bag!

Dining in or take out they serve the food in the box as to go, made to order. Clean establishment and good service. The food packaging is really fancy and the bag reusable. Liked the pork and woody mushrooms Tay Ho Banh Cuon set, the rice sheet wasn't too thin or too thick and the filling was flavorful, would like to have the cucumber sliced instead of shredded just for the crunch and extra fresh herbs. Grilled pork spring roll made to order, fresh veggies and fried dough for that extra crunch, thumbs up! The marinated pork rice plate was well grilled and fragrant. Will return to check on their crepes, steak garlic noodles and try their Pho soup base.

Very clean inside. No cooking food smell yet everything was delicious! Mostly take out orders and the packaging is very environmentally conscious. We ordered thru the kiosk at the counter and ate there. Food prepared really quickly and the portion for each order was very generous. Definitely a must try!
