The Best Restaurants in Prospect Heights | Eater NY

"Banh Mi Place serves reliable Vietnamese sandwiches, and the location makes it a convenient stop on the way to several destinations in the area, like the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park. Sandwiches cost about $10 each. They can be ordered with different meats — pate, ham, ground pork, sardines, or dark meat chicken — on a crusty baguette with cucumber, pickled carrots, cilantro, and more." - Eater Staff

The Best Vietnamese Restaurants in NYC | Eater NY

"A gem on the border of Prospect Heights, Banh Mi Place doesn’t look like much, but it has one of the best menus of the Vietnamese sandwiches in Brooklyn. Not only does it proffer the classic meat, poultry, and seafood versions, it goes one step beyond to use meat substitutes. This sounds like an inherently bad idea, but the mock meats work perfectly here, maybe even better than the original products. Bun salads, pho, and com dia (over-rice dishes) round out the menu." - Bao Ong

Google
A good choice for a quick bite. Just 2 minutes walking distance from the Brooklyn museum. We stopped by after the museum visit, luckily got the table as seating is very limited. Good grilled pork Banh Mi and Vietnamese coffee. Efficient service.

Google
Delicious banh mi at a great price. I had the classic sandwich, and it was packed and tasty. I will say that the medium spice level was mild, so when they ask what spice level you want, I'd go a level up. Also had a tasty hot Vietnamese coffee - solid, but not mind-blowing. Three small tables and three stools with counter service make it toght in there. There is brisk pick-up and delivery business. It felt like there was a mini-army behind the counter, cranking out the sandwiches and drinks, but each and every person was nice and friendly!

Google
Went here on a rainy day with a hangover looking for a good soup. I had the pork pho bo which was amazing. Also had the shrimp rolls. Overall excelent experience. Good food served by good people. I will surely come back here again👍

Google
What a meal! After a bowl of my grilled pork pho, I was ready to go to bed! So filling and flavorful! The young lady that took my order was such a sweetheart! She was very attentive and welcoming. She really added to the restaurant's experience! My only con is a place like this deserves a bigger space, it's a small spot. Definitely will be back!

Google
I had the tofu pho and vegetarian fish and let me tell you, it was delicious! You can taste all the flavors, the broth is delicious. The vegetarian fish flavor and texture is something else. Shoutout to the lemonade with lime! Really good! I’ll be back for sure! Vegan options! Edit: went back for the banh mi and the sandwiches were extremely disappointing.

Google
Favorite bahn mi spot - always fresh bread, juicy ingredients; also good pho. Note: no restroom and surcharge for card payments

Google
Very authentic Vietnamese Bah mi place. Took me back to the time I was in Vietnam. Absolutely delicious and it comes with 4 sauces on the table. Also very reasonable prices for Brooklyn!

Melody de Castro

Google
Had the grilled chicken Banh Mi.. Omg, soooo good!

Yelp
The absolute best banh mis! The bread is perfectly crunchy on the outside, but soft and pillowy on the inside. Just the right amount of pickles, sauce and cilantro. I absolutely love the grilled pork here! I usually get this at least once per week. They are super fast with orders. I usually order for pickup on GrubHub and my order is always ready by the time I walk over, which is 10-ish minutes away.

Yelp
The summer rolls were good. It's been hard to find good summer rolls. The broth was decent but I wish the beef pho came with tendon, brisket, beef balls, and more. It was the simplest pho I've had where it's just sliced beef. Also, the Jasmine bubble tea is alright. Boba was ok. We lucked out on finding a table. It gets filled quickly. The place is small but nice and intimate. My wife liked her banh mi and said it's the first place to have ground pork. She said the bread is crispy. I wished this place had beef banh mi.
google avatar

Yelp
I really enjoyed my banh mi! I would probably ask for extra filling next since I think it could use a little bit more. However overall it was very yummy and I will be back.

Yelp
Very solid Bahn Mi for an extremely reasonable price. It didn't blow my mind but it was fresh and filling and had great flavor. I'd highly recommend if you're looking for something quick, cheap, and relatively healthy.

Yelp
We were in a hurry to catch a flight from Brooklyn and wanted to try some thing in the area for lunch. We are never one to turn down Banh mi so we walked over. It's small inside but seems to do a lot of DoorDash/takeout business. I enjoyed my roasted pork banh mi with medium spice, and kids liked their classic mild. Hefty portions. Their shrimp papaya salad was delicious as well. Kids also loved their Thai bubble tea. Good spot for a quick bite.
google avatar

Yelp
Great place for banh mis! They are fast and prices are definitely cheap for the city. They also do boba pretty well too if you are looking for a nice drink and sandwich combo.

Yelp
Damn this place dropped off quality wise. I used to love this spot, obviously. Got a vegetarian chicken sandwich awhile back, my go to, and a good 7 bites of it was just bread. These sandwiches used to be loaded and now they're slim and sad. Looks like I'll return to my favorite new bahn mi spot in FIDI, Henry's Sandwich, when I'm craving a delicious Bahn mi

Yelp
Take away- No seating but a fast , delicious, & cheap! (Bah mi sandwich and bubble tea lunch special for under $15. ) Is it the best sandwich & Bubble Tea Sandwich I have ever had?....sadly, no but fast & filling. I like the Tofu Bah Mi Sandwich but be warned their mayonnaise is not vegan so you can leave it off if necessary. Neighborhood favorite. Wait times can get lengthy. Go online and order in advance if pressed. There is really no seating to speak of: there a bench outside but usually customers whom are waiting sit there.

Yelp
The food was ok. Typically when I order pho for take out, they provide a side of mint, cilantro, jalapeños or chilies, lime wedge, and green onions. This just has mint, a few bean sprouts, a lime wedge , and poachers for hoisin and siracha sauce. It wasn't giving a lot of flavor that I'm used to, but I will say the broth was very tasty. Overall, it was decent

Yelp
Only been to Banh Mi Place twice, but I'd consider it one of my favorites in the neighborhood. Every sandwich is ~$10 or just under, making it a great option for a cheap lunch. The tofu banh mi was delicious, with fresh bread, perfectly pickled veggies, and a healthy serving of sriracha mayo. I actually liked it so much I came back two days later and tried the seafood sandwich, which was also good but I wasn't as big a fan (it was pretty heavy on crab stick). It is cash preferred, but you can pay with card for a small fee.

Yelp
Tasty, fast, great price sandwiches and bubble tea. Stop by on the way to the museum, or sit in for a quick bite. My go-to is the vegetarian fish sandwich w/o mayonnaise (gross). It's a solid sandwich, love it extra spicy and at a great price. This is the kind of place I go to when I want to fill up and keep the bankroll chill. If I'm really full, I enjoy the veggy springrolls (especially the peanutbutter sauce omg). I think once I've gotten the rice version because they were out of bread. Somehow didn't hit the same way. Also enjoyed the green papaya salad in the summer. The bubble tea is solid too, mostly get the taro w/ soy milk. Inside has a few tables to eat and lounge but not for a big group. Solid service, always coming back. Keep it up crew

Yelp
I stopped by Banh Mi Place on a weekday last month after hitting up the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The reviews looked pretty solid and there didn't seem to be a lot of great cheap eats in the area. This place is located on a nice street with a decent amount of foot traffic. Inside, it's ultra small and there is one table and a small counter you can eat at if you want to dine in. This place charges an extra fee for credit card, so I'd recommend paying with cash. I ordered the classic banh mi, which came out to $9.25 total. The first thing I noticed was that the banh mi was fairly small, so that was disappointing. It did seem to be hot and very freshly made, so that was a plus. The bread was pretty crunchy and solid. The flavor and cohesiveness of the sandwich was really good. Unfortunately, there wasn't that much meat on the sandwich so it wasn't that filling. So the banh mi tasted great, but I wish I got more for my money or that the price of the sandwich was lower overall. Guess I'd say this place is just ok for a quick lunch if you're in the area.

Yelp
All of the food I ate had little to no flavor. I too had taro tea and it was flavorless. I'm giving it a three because staff was good. Absolutely would pass in the future.

Yelp
It's raining here in the city and decided to get me some Pho , and I thought it would have been a slow day. WRONG!!!! As the place is small, today It was packed. All 3 tables were filled and limited standing room only. I was so excited to see this on a rainy day. For my food, I got the exact same as last time (beef, tofu, and no noodles) , however, I added their papaya salad. Well, well, well....amazing!!!! The papa salad was sweet, tasty, and full of flavor. As I said before, I will continue to support this businessm Highly recommend it!!!

Yelp
I recently tried the vegetarian tofu rice dish from Banh Mi place. I'd say it met my expectations. While it was more expensive than the quoted menu online, it was still around $10 making it a relatively inexpensive quick takeout option for a east weekday meal. I've heard the sandwiches are pretty good and for the value and taste I would come back to try one. For now, I appreciated how this dish tasted fresh and the tofu had good flavor.

Yelp
We were visiting from Connecticut and I was so excited to get my hands on a banh mi. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I am a Vietnamese food snob. Being full Vietnamese, my standards are very high when it comes to authentic Vietnamese cuisine. I ordered their classic banh mi and their spring rolls. I felt the spring rolls were not fresh as the vermicelli in them were pretty hard. I did enjoy their sauce and found that it was a good amount of umami and sweetness. Although not a traditional banh mi with their bread, my partner did enjoy his sandwich. He found the flavors to be good although there could have been more meat and pate on the sandwich. Overall, it was not a bad experience - I do think there could be improvements to make the menu a bit more authentic such as the baguette it is served on. I also think we could improve by making the spring rolls to order instead of pulling them from the fridge pre made.

Yelp
I had a vegetarian ham banh mi after a visit to the Brooklyn Museum. The sandwich has a nice bold flavor and was very affordable. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I was looking for a quick bite to eat after visiting the Botanical Gardens with my friend & her daughter. I found Banh Mi Place and it was within walking distance. This small shop makes really yummy Vietnamese food at decent prices, I got a classic mild sandwich with cucumber juice and that came out to be ~$14.00. You can adjust the spiciness from mild, medium to spicy. They have pho, vermicelli and rice dishes as well. There was around 3 small tables with 2 chairs each, but no bathroom sadly. At first our drinks came lukewarm but the staff added more ice cubes after we brought it up. Overall, this shop definitely has potential and the sandwiches were delicious. There was a constant stream of customers and this will be my food spot whenever I am in the area.

Yelp
I was looking for a quick bite before my Bklyn Botanic Garden visit and decided on Vietnamese. I bookmarked this place as a reminder of different places to try pre or post BBG visit. I was really craving peanut sauce with... I reviewed the menu and Summer Rolls with Shrimp sounded perfect on a beautiful Spring day. Bahn Mi, of course, has a wide variety of Bahn mi sandwiches with chicken, pork, veggie and seafood. Additionally, there a rice bowls, papaya salads and bubble teas. The Summer Roll with shrimp us wrapped in rice paper with seasoned shrimp, cilantro, vermicelli and greens with a side of peanut sauce. I also chose the vanilla bubble tea. My order was served promptly and courteously. Dining indoors is a bit tight thus I dined Al fresco on a bench outside Jacks Barbershop. The summer roll was simply delicious: 2 rolls packed with shrimp and the cilantro blended well with vermicelli. A sign of a good roll: doesn't fall apart after numerous dunks in the equally delicious peanut sauce. @$7 this dish is well worth it. The bubble tea had a sweet vanilla taste and the size was extremely generous. Bahn Mi is a 5 minute walk from Washington Avenue and is next to Most High for coffee and The Social for ice cream treats. I've bookmarked both places to try for dessert next time.

Yelp
Still BOMB AF. Absolutely love this place as it's so close to prospect park and they have truly never disappointed. I love their banh mi's.

Yelp
We came across this cute place while lost in NY initially we just wanted something refreshing and got bobas tea but then we saw how amazing their banh me looked and decided to get our self one after ordering a second tea ! Service was very friendly ( shout out to the girl at the register complementing my glasses ) and the teas and bank mi was out of this world Wish I could say I'd be back soon but I will say I will def be back once I come visits NY again

Yelp
Excellent hole in the wall type spot. Amazing sandwiches! Very small inside, less of a sit down and dine, more like grab and go.

Marco M.

Yelp
Took my dad here after a museum visit and we split a tasty bahn mi (pork) and shrimp roll plate. The juices were refreshing also. We were fortunate to find seating in the small indoor area but service was fast. Would come back for sure!
google avatar

Bernice M.

Yelp
This is, by far, the best classic Banh mi sandwich I've had in New York. I've also tried the grilled pork sandwich and, though it was decent, I will go back to the classic sandwich. The bread is fresh, the vegetables are crisp, the ground pork, pate and ham are so tasty. The perfect ratio of everything. It is a very small place, mainly for to go orders. As of May 2021, you couldn't sit inside on the two bar stools they had, but they have a bench outside that you can sit on and devour your sandwiches on. I can't wait to go back again!!

Shanice R.

Yelp
This place has great service, but the food left much to be desired. It had no flavor. The grilled flavor was almost nowhere to be found, and the meat just tasted like the most basic marinade of sugar and fish sauce. There was no garlic, lemongrass, or anything. I got 2 sandwiches chicken and pork. Both were not very good. I was so hungry I ate half of the sandwich there, but once I got over that initial feeling I realized the lack of flavor. The bread was very good though. Would I go back? No, especially because of how far I walked to get there from where I was. Even if I was closer, still no. I'll make my own banh mi.

Anna C.

Yelp
Best spot ever. Food is always delicious and fast, and everyone is so friendly. Very fairly priced as well!
google avatar

Vivian Y.

Yelp
Coffee: good! Creamy sweet, viet coffee style Grilled pork sandwich: solid flavor, decent amount of marinated pork Summer rolls: expensive and very lackluster. More rice noodles than anything else. No basil in summer rolls just lettuce and you NEED to use sauce to have any flavor
google avatar

Michelle J.

Yelp
My friend recommended this place since we were going to be in the area. The inside is quite small with limited seating so many people choose to do takeout. Despite so many take out orders, they were able to get my food prepared in a timely manner. I ordered the grilled pork bahn mi and it sure hit the spot! The baguette was very fresh and super crispy. The pork itself had that smoky charred flavor that went great with the sweet and spicy seasoning. The meat was very tender and juicy, super flavorful. The vegetables were crisp and there was a good amount in the sandwich that added freshness. It was also interesting because they asked me what spice level I wanted and I'm not accustomed to that. I asked for the mild and it was a perfect hint of spice for me and not overpowering at all.
google avatar

Keana B.

Yelp
Banh Mi is good but not fantastic, was more bread than meat but overall but meat was seasoned nicely and not over cooked but it's mostly bread and the bread could be a little softer
google avatar

Cassidy H.

Yelp
Very friendly service & delicious food! I crave their banh mi all the time. Unassuming yet cute & family ran
google avatar

Jeshmar D.

Yelp
Very good drinks, prepare to bring cash Service was quick and easy. banh mi's were very fresh

Kathryn B.

Yelp
I didn't realize i hadn't had a good bahn mi in awhile until I went here! Good and quick yay
google avatar

Yelp
Grabbed a classic bahn mi and a hot Thai tea. Shop is small with room for about six patrons at two tables and at the counter. Service was pretty quick. The baguette for the bahn mi was superb. Hot and soft! Toppings were delicious! Hot Thai tea was interesting and hit the right spot on a chilly day.

Gregg P.

Yelp
The people who work here are very rude. There have been several times where deliveries have arrived with wrong items or poorly packed. When I have had to call back to let them know, it's usually been met with rude responses from the woman who is in charge.
google avatar

Elizabeth E.

Yelp
This is our favorite neighborhood spot. Amazing bubble tea and we will go to the farthest reaches of the universe for good boba. But not just a go for the tea. Pho and bahn mi and all menu items are fresh and delicious. Friendly, clean and fabulous!!!
google avatar

Emily D.

Yelp
Decent place for an affordable lunch or dinner. I ordered the grilled chicken banh mi. The daikon radish and carrots were wonderful! Crunchy, fresh, and flavorful. I wish the chicken had been less fatty and chewy. There was plenty of meat on the sandwich, but I found myself only getting a few bites of chicken that didn't taste bland and rubbery. The sandwich comes with lots of mayo, so maybe ask for less if you're not keen on it. The hot Thai tea was pretty tasty (and very cozy for cold walks in February). It still has some sweetness but isn't very milky, so it's nice as a pick-me-up.
google avatar

Yelp
Tried out this spot yesterday after an afternoon at the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens - my boyfriend and I were thrilled to find a banh mi/Viet spot in this neighborhood! Unfortunately, everything kind of fell short for us. We ordered several different items on the menu to try and none of them really stood out... perhaps we ordered the wrong things? I went with what I thought were the classics: Summer Rolls ($5.75), 2 grilled pork banh mis ($8.50/each), beef pho ($11.75), and the grilled pork chop rice dish ($8.75). The grilled pork in the sandwiches seemed a bit too fatty/chewy, and the "pork chops" over rice were definitely not what I expected - they were oddly dark in color and lacked the char that I'm used to. I wonder if I was supposed to get the "grilled pork rice dish" instead of this grilled pork CHOP one - very confusing. And while I appreciate the default offering for rice is brown rice because yes that IS healthier, it threw me/the dish off even further. The beef pho was pretty underwhelming as well, since the broth tasted pretty light in flavor and the beef that is used is the kind you find at hot pot, fully cooked (not the partially raw, eye of round steak). The portion size was great though - they did not skimp on the noodles and it was the perfect amount to split between 2 people while feasting on all the other food we ordered. Everything we tried wasn't exactly on the authentic side (probably catering more to the locals that live in Prospect Heights) but I'd give it another shot - maybe to try the Classic banh mi and the bubble tea.

Yelp
Coming from Orlando I have super high expectations of Viet food and this meets every level. Also have you seen them churn out the Bánh Mì? It's impressive. Maybe if they ever have space they can also offer Bánh Xèo in the future, but that's just my dream.
google avatar

Sophie V.

Yelp
The Banh Mi Place is pretty good as far as banh mi goes. It's a take on the Vietnamese banh mi but with the twist -- the pork is minced and there is much more mayo than you would expect in a Vietnamese banh mi. That being said, it's probably the best banh mi in Brooklyn and Queens. The staff is attentive and efficient in taking orders and getting the food out to you. Usually, people order and eat elsewhere because the restaurant is so small with only a few tables and chairs. It gets pretty busy, so that's how you know it's good. The mocha boba though, is amazing and tastes so good. The coffee tastes amazing and the boba is top-notch. The Vietnamese coffee however is a bit overpriced for something that can be quickly made at home for $3 max.
google avatar

Lourdes M.

Yelp
The closest take out place we get acrossed during researching one day we came from Brooklyn museum. The service is quick. The price is reasonable. The sandwich we ordered ( grill pork) is very simple but tasty and filling. It is worth the wait. They only do take out and delivery right now due to Covid. If want try dine in, it only could sit people that would fit in around 2-3 tables. The place is meant for take outs.
google avatar

Hilda A.

Yelp
Yum! Found this place after visiting the Brooklyn Museum. We had the pork banh mi. It was delicious. The bread was so good and the pork was flavorful. If you're visiting the museum, recommend this place for lunch.
google avatar

Joseph F.

Yelp
I got the Classic Sandwich from their to-go operation in June 2021. It was more expensive and not as good and some banh mi sandwiches I've had in Texas. Wait was 10-15 minutes around lunchtime on a weekday. The bread was unfortunately nothing special. The meat was mostly ground pork with a few thin slices of ham. I had a hard time finding the pate. Veggies may have been chopped hours before they got on the sandwich as they were pretty soft.
google avatar

Joley B.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite finds in Brooklyn on my last trip. This is the type of the "hole in the wall" place that I love. Good food, good prices, and good people. I ordered the classic Banh Mi... no frills and a bubble tea. First the sandwich itself was fantastic. The bread was thinner than I've had in other places, and I liked this option WAY better. The filling didn't fall out with each bite which can often happen with other Banh Mis. The mango green bubble tea I had was simple and tasted great. It was a perfect lunch for me and my friend when we were hangry after spending a long time in line and then in the exhibits at the museum. Seating is limited, and there are no frills here. But what more do you need than good food without the pretense?
google avatar

Kristin S.

Yelp
I've ordered from here numerous times and wish I could keep this place in my life forever. My go-to is the grilled pork bahn mi. My mouth waters thinking about the generous chunks of grilled pork that's are perfectly savory and sweet along with the pickled veggies and a bit of spiciness. The Vietnamese iced coffee is also amazing and only $3.75. I'm going to be so sad when I move from this neighborhood in a couple weeks. Whenever I order ahead or in store, I never have to wait long. Tip: only accept cash for orders less than $10
google avatar

Justin C.

Yelp
My friends and I were looking for a quick bite to eat before exploring Brooklyn and came across this Banh Mi shop that caught our attention as we walked by. The food certainly did NOT disappoint! This was definitely the best Banh Mi I have had and recommend the classic sandwich. Both mild spice and medium spice tasted great and is definitely worth the 10 dollars that we each paid. The bread was also toasted to perfection and the Banh Mi was very well prepared. Would recommend this shop to any looking for a quick bite during their Brooklyn visits.
google avatar

Sumin C.

Yelp
I always walked pass by this small store on my way home and I was surprised at how many good reviews this place had so I wanted to try their infamous Banh Mi. I got the classic sandwich and my friend got their grilled pork sandwich. We both thought our Banh Mi tasted a bit different from other regular ones we had in the past. This one was definitely more creamy and the taste of mayonnaise and butter was very prominent. I expected it to taste a bit more citrusy, but I was pleasantly surprised at the ample amount of mayo in the sandwich. If you like the smooth texture and taste of mayo, you would love this sandwich. For me, I'm not a big fan of it but I still thought the sandwich was pretty delicious. It's also priced fairly so I would recommend this spot to anyone who's looking for a decent Banh Mi around the area.
google avatar

Ro R.

Yelp
Okay I was trying to compare this place to Banhmigos and they're pretty similar, but P prefers Banhmigos and so I only have ordered from this place once. Got the traditional banh mi and it wasn't what I was craving for, I miss pate that is done in a authentic Vietnamese way that you would find at any banh mi place in Houston. Ordered the Beef Pho at $10.50, but they called me to say they didn't have it and so they replaced it with a cheaper price Chicken at $10.00, but still charged me for the Beef price. Got the pork chop banh mi and vermicelli and sadly, don't remember my thoughts regarding both of them. Banhmigos and Banh Mi Place both have good baguette for their banh mi.

Yelp
This place slaps. We were craving a burger after traversing the museum all day, found this wonderful food place instead and decided on a meaty bahn mi sandwich instead of a burger. The extra spicy grilled pork here is sweet, spicy, and savory all in several delicious bites. I am excited to come back this summer with friends and try the Vietnamese coffee, for which I'm already a sucker.
