Bánh Mì TBD - Review - Flushing - New York - The Infatuation

"You no longer need to hit the Queens Night Market to enjoy a sandwich from Bánh Mì TBD, a.k.a. Bánh Mì Thai Binh Duong. Their brick-and-mortar location inside the Foodie Town food court in Flushing could hardly be more convenient to the7 train. Besides bánh mì (available in full or half portions), thisVietnamesespot also makes spring rolls, fried bananas, and sweet potato and beef hand pies." - Molly Fitzpatrick

Having good banh mi in the borough of Queens is a blessing. I’ve tried two of their sandwiches, the crispy pork and the chicken. The protein servings were generous and flavorful. The baguette itself could be crispier and warmer. I also prefer a stronger flavor from my pickled carrots and daikon, TBD’s was on the mellower side. The beef empanada was tasty but skew more Latin American than Vietnamese in taste. Service was friendly and accommodating. I prefer them over Joju.

Finding a truly authentic Vietnamese banh mi in Queens can be a challenge, but Banh Mi TBD has mastered it. As someone who visits Vietnam frequently and knows a good banh mi when I taste one, this place is my go-to in Flushing. I always order the banh mi heo quay, and it never disappoints. The pork is the star of the show; Terry, the owner, makes the crispy pork belly in-house. It’s roasted to perfection—crispy, juicy, and full of flavor. Combined with a fresh, airy baguette and the traditional toppings, it’s a perfect representation of the sandwich you'd find on a busy street corner in Vietnam. You should also try their cha gio (spring rolls). They’re not those tiny ones you often get; these are a good size and fried beautifully. Beyond the delicious food, the owner Terry is incredibly kind and welcoming. His passion for the food is clear, and it’s a pleasure to support a business that brings such genuine flavor and diversity to the Flushing community. If you're looking for the real deal, this is it.

Okay so first of all… the DRINK. My friend and I ordered the same size, but somehow I got this big cup and she got one that legit looked like a medium. Like… how does that even happen?? Then the banh mi… omg. Not gonna lie, it was kinda disappointing. There was no pâté at all. Isn’t that basically one of the main things that makes a Vietnamese banh mi a banh mi?? The meat was super soft and low-key sad. No crispy edges, no grill marks, nothing. It tasted like they just warmed it up in a microwave or something. Overall… yeah, this was a 1/10 for me.

Their Bún Bò Huế keeps getting better every time. They really pack it, more soup, more noodles, and a huge amount of meat. For $15, you won’t find a bowl in Flushing with this much meat. And the best part is they don’t use MSG. The broth tastes clean and rich, and you can tell from the ingredients that they cook it with real care…..someone back there is definitely treating this broth like an art project :)

Pretty good banh mi… hefty meat portion and good filling-to-bread ratio. Nicely seasoned. Pretty good value. Very nice owner!! Was very friendly, very accommodating, and gave an iced coffee on the house (which was not two sweet and had an intense coffee flavor)😄

Google
I've found my banh mi heaven at Bánh Mì T.B.D . Look no further, this place is IT. Let's start with the star: the Pork Belly Banh Mi . I'm officially obsessed. The magic is in the texture: the crackling crispiness of the pork skin against the juicy, flavorful meat is perfection. The baguette is toasted to a crispy exterior without being tough or doughy. The pickled daikon and carrots are generous but balanced never overwhelming. I add fresh jalapeño for a kick and it sends it over the top. This isn't just any sandwich. Having been to Saigon, I know authentic banh mi, and this is the real deal. The fact that it's Viet-owned speaks for itself. Pro Tips: Finding it: It's a bit tucked away, but worth the hunt. Take the LIRR to Main Street Flushing, it's on the Manhattan side of the tracks, on 40th Road (across the street from the basketball court). Must-Try Drink: GET THE VIET COFFEE. It's strong, sweetened with condensed milk and has a serious coffee punch. Yes, it costs a bit more than the bakery coffee on Main Street, but they do not skimp. You pay for QUALITY. Next Time: I'm a creature of habit with the pork belly, but they have other variety of banh Mi and little fried bites I can't wait to try. I will be back to work my way through the menu. I would stop by every single day if I could. Do yourself a favor and go. You should too.

Google
Super happy with my visit here!!! The Banh Mi is so good and actually AUTHENTIC (pate is delicious). Came back twice to try out everything especially the appetizers and they were all so yummy too! The owners are also super welcoming and friendly and are doing a fun promotional plinko game where you can even win prizes (free drink, free plushie, or free monthly banh mi for a year). This place is right off the 7 train stop so it’s super accessible too. Highly recommend and will be back again soon!!! :)

Google
The best banhmi I’ve had in NY. The fried banana was so good too. Highly recommend. The place is right off the train station so it’s perfect for a quick bite.

Yelp
First right off the bat, this is a new place I found out from an email from Flushing BID. Should sign up with them for notifications as they help support the local shops. Secondly, they are right at the entrance of a food court so it's easy find. The gentleman at the register was really nice and took his time to give me some directions. I went with the classic and actually grateful they give 2 options as I can sample other things. Pricing was very reasonable and the bread was perfectly toasted. Now I want to explain, a Banh Mi sandwich is not stacked like a Subways. It's a combination of radish/carrots, the savory slice of meats and the aroma of the parsley with the saltiness of the pate all combined. I think that expectations of something piled high w meat is something you are coming to the wrong place for. So come on down and enjoy a great sandwich and coffee. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
A newish place to get Vietnamese sandwiches. Located in the tiny food court, where Chinatown Ice Cream Factory used to be. Banh Mi TBD, takes up the first stall, right in the front window, which used to be a bubble tea place. Onto the food! Tried the chicken sandwich. Their homemade pate is super good! The chicken is shredded and covered in sauce. Personally, I'd prefer chicken chunks. Shredded tends to be rather salty. Could used more carrot radish slaw. Other places really pack it in there. Otherwise, taste is good overall. What really makes the sandwich is the homemade pate. I want more of it! If you need more carrot slaw, you could ask for more. Their recommended sandwich is the pork chop. Haven't tried it yet. They also sell homemade empanadas. They seem pretty small. There is only one flavor: sweet potato, beef and cheese or without cheese. This flavor profile didn't interest me, so haven't tried it. They also have fried bananas, spring rolls and Vietnamese coffee. Haven't tried any. Seating. All the way, down at the end of the hallway, is some communal seating. Service. Great! This place started out at the Queens Night Market.

Yelp
I tried their Spring Rolls and Classic Banh Mi and it was good. The spring rolls I really liked, it was crispy, and it didn't feel heavy. I thought it would be 3 really small spring rolls, but it was probably double the size of the ones you get at a restaurant, so you're technically getting 6 spring rolls. Their banh mi bread was really good, it had the perfect amount of daikon and carrots, and it wasn't overpowering. I'm probably going to be in the minority of this, but I prefer my sandwiches to have less meat, and banh mi is the opposite. There was a lot of meat in the sandwiches, and if that's what you like, this is the place for you! They also have vempanadas (sweet potato, quail eggs and beef filling), vietnamese coffee, and so many more items. It's located at what used to be Yaya's right on 40th road. Great place for banh mi, also very clean and organized.

Yelp
Like a 3.5 Tried them out at the flushing BID fair Had 3 for $5 spring rolls and $4 chicken viet empanada Spring rolls were a good size. Slightly bigger than your average ones at nha trang/pho best/pho bang etc. Flavor was alright probably like a 7.5. The chicken empanada didn't taste that great and was small for the price point. I would skip this and get spring rolls. I'd try the sandwiches next time.

Yelp
My go to Bahn Mi spot has always been Saigon in Manhattan chinatown. Now that this spot is open I can have as much authentic bahn mi as I want. The workers there are so nice and the location is convenient. Definitely check this place out.

Yelp
Special Banh Mi (Classic) Full $11.50 (they offer half portions as well for $7) All their sandwiches are the same price. . I went classic because that's what I would prefer if I were a first timer trying a new banh mi shop (assuming most would offer this one) . Off the bat, I was disappointed at the amount of meat in the sandwich. It's very thin for a bahn mi for the price tag. I mean, I didn't want to judge a book by its cover... ‍‍ . It was a little heavy on the mayo which I love. I tasted the pate, which I liked. The pickled radish and carrots were not very prominent though, didn't have that tang, they don't load it up like other places. I barely tasted the Vietnamese ham & bologna since they didn't put much of it. . Overall, the banh mi tasted fine, the sandwich was very simple, nothing fancy schmacy about it, except for the price. I personally don t think it was worth the value. This isn't to say I won't go back and try their other sandwiches. I mean, their crispy pork is their most popular sandwich. Maybe I got the wrong one to try first in this instance. . I also got a Vietnamese iced coffee, it was alright, very similar to if I were to make it at home, nothing special in my opinion. . They also serve empanadas and fried bananas, which seem interesting.

Yelp
Stopped by here to try out some authentic Bánh mì sandwiches. We got both the chicken and pork sandwiches as well as the spring roll and fried bananas. The pork was crispy and the chicken was amazing. The sandwiches hit the spot with great flavors. This spot is located in a convenient location in downtown Flushing. The staff were friendly and there is a discount for using cash (they do accept credit cards). I would recommend this spot if you're looking for something different in Flushing.

Yelp
First time visiting this place. I was attracted by the neatness and cleanliness of the establishment. So there's not much on the menu. Few items but I had banh mi on my mind. Honestly, I thought 1/2 of Banh mi for $7 is kind of on the high side. I got the crispy pork. I would order more often if it's price better for this small sub. If priced at $6 it would be worth my while to walk a few blocks to get this daily lunch. The taste and freshness of the bread is pretty authentic.

Yelp
Amazing bahn mi! The crispy pork is a must have. A little sweet, a little spicy, and deliciously savory. It doesn't matter what's inside if the bread isn't on point and it was. Crispy and flakey on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. 5 stars!

Susan C.

Yelp
Banh mi classic was good after the first one. I realized that the classic banh mi sandwich should have cold cut meats and not the fatty sliced pork. Other than that it could've been better. And if you get take out make sure you have them separate the veggies so the sandwich doesn't get soggy by the time you get home. So if the owner is listening, please make the classic without the fatty pork and just use more of the cold-cut meats sliced thinly.

Yelp
Surprising treat. Not a lot of authentic Vietnamese banh mi in town so it was nice to see this place opening. Delicious crispy flavorful banh mi. Even pate was made in house. Our favorite was the crispy pork banh mi paired with the limeade. Although if you need a caffeine boost, the viet coffee will do the job. Definitely worth the trek to flushing.

Yelp
Heavily fw this place. That grilled porkchop is mad good. Viet coffee and limeade is a must have. The coffee is exactly what you should be tasting if you want a viet coffee. Great service, kind staff. Peaceful environment. If you want a Banh MI in Flushing, this is the best you can get. Absolutely fantastic, well done guys. We need more people like you in the community.
