Google
This place is small and simple in design, but dont be fouled!! Their food is great!! The veggies are fresh!! They did look or taste canned The meat is well cooked and the seamse chicken was crispy. The sauce is FULL of flavor!!!!!! Great consistency! The fried rice is actually fresh. Flavor is lighter, but there's so much good sauce, u can easily mix it with the rice. Overall, I love it!! Thank you Banh's Cuisine for a wonderful lunch 🙏🏾🔥😋

Google
Good spot for Vietnamese eats, Menu changes often The soup today we got was full of good minced meat and flavor They have plenty side dishes for a few dollars Place seems to be there for a while. I liked the sticky rice with peanuts Nothing fancy but good food ! Parking is tricky for dt Durham, but you can find street parking

Google
They do accept credit cards now. Best Asian food in the triangle. So fresh and flavorful. A true authentic gem below the radar. The owners are such lovely people.

Google
We ordered kongpao chicken and sweet and sour chicken. Averaging about $8 each dish. Probably the most best value in town. Don't know how they make money by such a price😅 Maybe they care more about people then business. Both dishes tasted good. Sweet and sour is very crispy and kongpao is flavourful. Anyways. It's owned by a small family business. They are super welcoming and courteous. Lunch time was fully packed.

Google
We had hot and sour soup, ginger chicken and sesame tofu and they tasted like 5 star dishes. They were actually out of the soup but the owner made us a fresh pot. The chicken was super tender, and the plentiful amount of fresh ginger and broccoli was exactly what we needed. It was a delicious and nutritious meal! (Thank you to the owner who made fresh soup for us).

Google
No fuss, no hassle Viet/Chinese joint on 9th street. They take card. If you’re looking for extravagance, go elsewhere. The food speaks for itself. The price confirms the experience.

Google
I will definitely visit again! I think I just didn't order the right thing. I got the chicken curry which didn't really have any flavor. Everything else looked good on the menu and I'm sure next time I go, my review will change to a 5 star

Google
Talking about the food itself is good and tasty. However, vegetarian plate doesn't have vegetables: large tofu with lots of sauce, sticky rice and a huge rice roll. If you order vegetarian plate for eating healthy, this is not a good option.

Yelp
Amazing food that always hits the spot. I would highly recommend any plate. The Wednesday vegetarian special is also a nice bonus

Yelp
Excellent food and service! I have been going here for years and never disappointed! Same ladies have been owners and do a great job!

Yelp
I have lived in Durham for years now, but it was the first time I came here. It is a casual, non-fussy, and wholesome restaurant. It is not a fine dining establishment. It is a delicious, well-liked neighborhood restaurant. Some lovely thoughtful ladies run this shop. If you eat in, they bring the food to the table with condiments despite having a busy shop. The line is often out the door. I had a Vietnamese soup Hu Tieu, and it was warm, fresh, and exactly what I needed. The prices are reasonable, as well.

Yelp
I have wanted to try this restaurant for a while and have heard great things about it. It's a very small, hole-in-the-wall kind of place, but there are a few tables indoors as well as some outdoors tables for seating. I found out that the bathroom sink is located outside of the bathroom which was interesting. The workers were all friendly and the food came out quick, but it was just okay. The vegetable rice roll was pretty disappointing because it was literally just lettuce and rice noodles wrapped in rice paper. Other Vietnamese spots I've been to usually serve 2 rolls per order and add other vegetables like cabbage, carrots, and mint to the roll, but this one was very plain. I tried some of the special vegetable pho and it was also just okay. The broth was decent but the vegetables were a little hard and overall I've had better. I also tried a bite of my friends sweet and sour chicken and found the sauce to be too sweet / tangy for my liking. I know a lot of people love this place, but in my opinion it was just ok / below average.

Yelp
Every time I eat Banh's, every cell in my body screams with joy, saying "thank you, thank you, thank you!"

Evan ..

Yelp
The best "hole in the wall" asian restaurant in Durham. The food is made with love and tradition. Whenever I take my friends and family from out of town to a restaurant or 2, Bahns is on the shortlist

Lauren R.

Yelp
Absolute gem of a hole in the wall. Food was fast and amazing. Service was great. 10/10

Yelp
Atmosphere: Banh's Cuisine is a hole-in-the-wall restaurant on 9th Street with an intimate and local vibe. Definitely a slept-on spot in Durham. Service: Ordering and receiving food is easy, and everything comes out quick and fresh! Food: We've tried several of their Saturday Specials -- the Hu Tieu (#1, pork, shrimp, celery, ground peanut in rice noodle soup), Bun Thang (#2, rice noodle soup with shredded chicken, egg, pork), and Roast Pork Steamed Bun (#4) -- as well as the Sesame Chicken. The soups were warm, filling, and light! We especially liked the Bun Thang, which was more savory and had tender bits of chicken. The Sesame Chicken was also a filling meal for a great price. Overall: Banh's Cuisine is such a wholesome, feel-good spot. With reasonable prices and delicious food, this is easily a standout not only on 9th Street, but in the Triangle area as a whole!

Yelp
Great service. Went on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty packed. Got the chicken and broccoli in sate sauce and my partner got the sweet and sour chicken. Both dishes were great! They came out fast and we're very flavorful. The seating wasn't much and the restaurant wasn't that big.
google avatar

Yelp
I recently moved to the triangle, and have tried a couple of restaurants since I've been here that were blah in flavor. I decided to try Banh's Cuisine on a whelm while running errands. The space was kind of like a small hole in the wall, but the food did not disappoint. I got the lemongrass shrimp special which has been the tastiest meal I have had in a while. It was full of flavor and a nice portion. The service was fast and the price was very affordable. I will probably make this one of my go-to spots when I'm in the area. Highly recommend!!!
google avatar

Alicia B.

Yelp
I haven't added my review of their banh mi! It's perfect. Unfortunately, it's only served on Saturdays and usually sells out around lunch- go it in the morning and snag one! It's vegetarian, and filled to the brim with tofu and eggplant. Their bread is perfect. It's also topped with shredded carrot and sprigs of cilantro. Everyone needs to experience this ASAP. There's nothing quite like walking to Banh's at 11 am and sitting down with a glorious banh mi.
google avatar

Yelp
I came for the Saturday Vietnamese specials, along with everyone else in Durham apparently - the line was out the door! I got the hu tieu and two sticky rice-based snacks (banh chung and xoi muoi me). They weren't bad, and were certainly better than any other Vietnamese place in Durham, but taste-wise I'd still drive to Cary/Morrisville for a few places over eating here. However, Cary and Morrisville are not walking distance from my house, so I'm sure I'll be back. The hu tieu was comforting but kind of over-celeried in the broth. It did have a ton of ground pork and the shrimps were sizable and sweet. I preferred the banh chung in the battle of the sticky rice dishes - but I'm a sucker for anything wrapped in a banana leaf.
google avatar

Yelp
I am eating at Banh's Cuisine right now and highly recommend it. The best Vietnamese/ Chinese food in the area. It is a hole in the wall so don't expect bells and whistles but the staff, service, and the food are all excellent! I eat here often and highly recommend the specials. And because I'm a fan of vegetarian food, which is very hard to find in the area, I especially think they do this well. This is a staple and I always go here for authentic Vietnamese/ Chinese food.

Melanie S.

Yelp
This little place on 9th street in Durham doesn't look like much from the outside. But the food is delicious. Every time. Never disappoints!
google avatar

Soup K.

Yelp
This is the best Chinese food in Durham. Friendly service and clean food. Which is very hard to find in Durham. The sesame chicken is awesome.

Juanita A.

Yelp
They have the best Chinese/ Vietnamese food I've ever eaten.! Once you eat this food you really do not want any other especially on Vegetarian days of Wednesday & Saturdays!
google avatar

Anna C.

Yelp
I've been going to Bahn's for years and it never ceases to wow me. The chicken with broccoli, ginger chicken and chicken satay are always spot on. So delicious, I can't recommend it enough!
google avatar

Queena Z.

Yelp
Their Wednesday special noodles are fantastic. Really hits the spot for when I'm missing home or craving Asian noodles
google avatar

Yelp
In addition to the Wed/Sat menu I highly recommend their ginger tofu and sesame chicken. Delicious!!
google avatar

Ebir A.

Yelp
I can't believe Banh's has stuck around all this time; it's one of the few establishments that is the same as I remember. I very infrequently get back to Durham (lapses of many years), but when I do, I always stop by Banh's and it's always good. If you're lucky enough to be there on a Wednesday or Saturday, the Vegetarian special is an absolute gem. I got there later today and they served a summer roll instead of the broccoli, but that was pretty good, too. Super chill inside and the employees are nice. Thanks always Banh's !!!

Yelp
I can't really complain about this Americanized Chinese fastfood resturant. The price and flavors are spot on with decent Chinese fastfood restaurants within the same category. Nothing stunning either of course. During 2 days within the week, they do serve vietnamese food... I'd call it fusion viet food as well. I had the shrimp rice noodle and it's still prodominately the sour & spicy combination that most South East Asian food would have. But I tasted some other ingredients in the sauce where... Not a lot of ethinic vietnamese food might have (maybe I haven't had enough viet food in general myself haha). All in all, considering the price performance with the taste...solid 4 stars.
google avatar

P H.

Yelp
Good food, excellent prices. Menu rotates throughout the week. The tofu with pork is excellent, as is the veggie plate and the tofu with zucchini and broccoli.
google avatar

Fox E.

Yelp
And this one time, at Banh's Camp, I stuck a noodle in my tummy. The main downside of this lovely little place is that most of the week they only serve Bland Americanized Chinese food, which isn't really Chinese and I'm not a big fan. You can get that at any given takeaway in any little village of the country. But the college kids (most of whom are not Asian) here at Duke gobble it up as if they're being cultured. You're not. It's fake! Lol. However, one night a week they serve delicious homemade Vietnamese stuff, and that is the week when they go from being a three-star restaurant to a five-star restaurant so that is when you should visit. If they start serving that stuff every night of the week, I will raise them to five stars. Until then they lose a star for only offering the good stuff once a week.

Charlie C.

Yelp
I've been missing out--have walked by this restaurant for years, only to recently find its Wednesday/Saturday specials becoming the highlight of my week! My new favorite place for authentic, well-priced Vietnamese food. This bún thịt nướng is an incredible proxy for the bowls I used to eat streetside in Saigon.
google avatar

Noelle K.

Yelp
Lovely hole in the wall run by the sweetest people. I'm vegetarian. I've been here twice, once when they had their Chinese and I got the ginger tofu and once when they had their Vietnamese cuisine and I got the vegetarian plate. Both had amazing flavors, lots of delicious and fresh tasting vegetables, and sauces that were not too salty and sweet as many places have but just wonderfully flavorful. Only thing I wasn't crazy about was the egg roll. Just plain. My only real gripe is that I did not know about this place sooner when I've been in Durham for years! Go here and support small businesses!
google avatar

Grace S.

Yelp
All the reviews saying this place is a religious experience are true. Go on a Wednesday or Saturday, place your order, hang out on Ninth St, then enjoy delicious food :)

T C.

Yelp
This is a true hidden gems. Limited menus but carry Wed and Sat special. Very consistent with favors on each dishes I've tried so far. Must try even it is a every casual dining place.
google avatar

Jenna W.

Yelp
Overall- I come here all the time for take out. It's definitely not authentic to one Asian cuisine, it's more of just good pan Asian flavors. Price - very reasonable given the portion size What we get Ginger chicken- fresh ginger, chicken and lots of vegetables Tofu special- deep fried tofu with crispy onions and peanut rice. Only served Wednesday and Sunday so get it while it's hot. Ambiance- none. It's a take out place Service - very nice ladies taking and fulfilling orders

Connor B.

Yelp
Great service and delicious, reasonably priced food. They have a small core menu with a rotation of specials, so there's a good variety. I had the Mien Ga, and it was delicious. Banh's is a rare combination of good food, local ownership, and low prices, and it feels good to support this business.
google avatar

Esther L.

Yelp
So so so good! Get rid of your idea of conventional to-go Chinese food and wonder yourself with tender chicken but crisp batter glazed with the perfect amount of sauce and taste. The inside of Banh's cuisine made me hesitant at first but the quality and presentation of the food blew me away. Two $7 plates of steamed rice with sesame chicken and hot spicy wings made us full for the entire day. For a conventional Asian meal at a low price, Banh's cuisine is seriously good with making the food taste hot and straight out of the pan. Thinking of the food makes me want to go back immediately (I'm serious)! Give this place a try and be dazed with each bite of glazed goodness. Remember, they ONLY accept cash.
google avatar

Samuel F.

Yelp
The ultimate hole in the wall. Healthy Asian food with some authentic Vietnamese options. The Ginger chicken and the vegetarian tofu special (on Saturdays) are fantastic. Some of the other options are not as good frankly, but I think this isn't a huge issue.
google avatar

Chris K.

Yelp
I haven't been here in probably twenty years (they've been around for 30) since moving clear on the other side of town. Still a small selection at a very fair price, but they no longer keep the food in warming pans cafeteria style (which made it greasy after sitting for a while). Now everything is made fresh to order and so much better than I remember. The ginger chicken was delicious! Just look at all the ginger in the picture! Hopefully it won't take me so long to return again.

Jenny N.

Yelp
The loveliest Vietnamese aunties in town. A must try on Wednesday and Saturday if you want to try affordable Vietnamese dishes!
google avatar

Guy W.

Yelp
Another Must Stop if You are in the Downtown Durham Area. This place is Very Tiny but the Owners are the Sweetest People You will ever Meet!!! Food and Service( Two People) are very Good and the Prices are even Better. Eggrolls are Huge and the Soup is very Tasty. Limited Seating so Take-out might be a Good Option!!!
google avatar

Zach W.

Yelp
In short, Banh's can't be missed. The menu rotates between Chinese and Vietnamese (I believe Wednesdays and Saturdays), but no matter what they're offering you can be sure it's going to be delicious. The staff is helpful, quick, and taking covid precautions seriously. I highly recommend their Banh Mi on Saturdays, their coconut sticky rice, or their fried tofu (seriously, some of the best tofu I've ever had). You may have noticed, but for the vegetarians out there, Banh's is particularly agreeable. I can't recommend Banh's enough!

Chris N.

Yelp
Speaking as someone who is not a huge fan of tofu, I have to say that their vegetarian plate is one of my favorite dishes anywhere. I think it's a black bean sauce on the tofu - outstanding!
google avatar

Yikhwan D.

Yelp
I had the chicken and broccoli with the satay sauce. It tasted fine until the last quarter of the meal. There was too much sauce so the food became very salty, and the plate was soaked through. (They use paper plate) The service was nice. The place isn't huge, there are around 7 tables so the people behind me were worried that they would have to sit outside with all the tables being taken.

Charles P.

Yelp
After an all day Infusion treatment at Duke, starving because I left my lunch in the car, and feeling the need to eat before the 2 hour drive to S.C., i searched for a place that was close to Duke and open at 4:30. This place appeared to fit the bill. After a 6 minute drive, I initially walked by it. Curb appeal and ambiance are not part of the equation. It's all about the food--simply excellent and dirt cheap. I had the chicken and vegetables. The chicken was tender and expertly seasoned, the vegetables were fresh and crisp, and the rice was light and fluffy. Granted, I live in a culinary wasteland, nevertheless this meal proves that you can get good, inexpensive Asian food even in a Carolina.
google avatar

Krystal P.

Yelp
Sooooooo delicious!!!!! Thank u again!!! Great taste and the meat was tender! Wonder job!!! I will be back.
google avatar

Stephen Y.

Yelp
Banh's Cuisine is a Vietnamese and Chinese restaurant that's commonly overlooked (and misspelled) in comparison to other restaurants on Ninth Street, but the food is delicious. The facility is (very) small with no atmosphere whatsoever, but the owners are extremely nice and very quick. I frequented this restaurant while attending school nearby, and my experience has always been consistent. Normally, the menu is limited to an assortment of stereotypical American-Asian food, which I tried once and deemed very average, but on Wednesdays and Saturdays, special plates are available. Costing a little over $7, these special plates are what I think have made some of my visits to Banh's really worth it. Additionally, there are vegetarian options; I've heard that the vegetarian platter is also delicious. Overall, Banh's is definitely worth a shot if you're craving some quick and convenient Vietnamese food. Keep in mind, though, that they only accept cash.
google avatar

L G.

Yelp
Hole in the wall, unremarkable looking in every way. But you don't go for the atmosphere. The food is fantastic. A solid twice as good as whatever other Chinese take out you are accustomed to. I can only assume it's because the Banh's owners actually care. Ginger Chicken has real raw ginger shreds on top and tastes fresh & healthy! Already craving more...
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
Tiny, hole in the wall joint but definitely a place you shouldn't miss! Came here for a quick dinner and decided to order one of the specials, the sesame chicken. Normally I would NEVER order this dish (since it's so Americanized) but the ladies working there recommended it and I immediately trusted them for some reason. Sure enough, it was absolutely delicious - crispy, flavorful, just the right amount of sauce, and came with plenty of rice and broccoli. My friends ordered the ginger chicken and basil chicken specials and also liked their dishes. Note: CASH ONLY! I'll be back soon.
google avatar

Bob M.

Yelp
Fabulous. Remarkable If you haven't been here you don't know. Everything cooked to order. Beautiful ladies who really care about food.
google avatar

Sarah G.

Yelp
This is a tiny little spot and if you are looking for a cheap and quick lunch option, this is a good bet. I wouldn't bring a big group here unless you are taking it to go and if you are trying to impress someone at a lunch meeting, probably not the best spot for that either. But you can tell they really love the food they make and you can tell they are really happy for everyone who comes into their restaurant which just makes me so happy. For around $6 you can get a big plate for lunch with rice or curry or chicken, and you will definitely leave full! They have vietnamese specials all the time too, so there will likely be something on the menu next time you go you didn't see before. If you can get their specials that is the way to go, since some of their other Chinese dishes, in my opinion, just lacked flavor. So my advice is ask the lady who runs the shop on what to order and she will tell you :-)

Ryder S.

Yelp
While from the street this place does not seem to be the all star Vietnamese restaurant of Durham I found it while trying to find a place for dinner one night. Upon looking at other reviews it was obvious that the Wed or Sat authentic Vietnamese specials were the time to come. I've gone back four times for the vegetarian special now and can't suggest it enough. I'm a new transplant to the area and I can't say how excited I am to know I have an affordable, authentic, delicious regular spot for a quick weekend meal. 11/10 go for the specials and stay for the entire menu!!
google avatar

Christina G.

Yelp
I'd impatiently waited for a Wednesday or Saturday when Phil & I were free to try the notorious Viet specials at Banh's. Walking distance to pho in the Triangle? Sounds too good to be true. And unfortunately it is. The shop is pretty small with some indoor and outdoor seating. Very plain. No music playing, even. And cash only. Most of the patrons we saw coming and going got their goods to-go. The woman behind the counter (owner, I presume) was very sweet. They were out of a mung bean/banana leaf dish I'd really wanted and am nostalgic about; so we tried the curry chicken turnover instead. He ordered the vegetarian special (tofu and black-bean sauce) and I got the pho. The dishes were around $6 or 7 which is reasonable. But it was a crying shame! Not a shadow of cilantro or bean sprouts or jalapenos. There were green onions. But otherwise, it was almost like eating a bowl of chicken noodle soup that had tofu, a single mushroom cap, some bok choy, and julienned carrots. I had to load it up with hot sauce to make it more interesting. It just was not very authentic -- seemed to be cutting corners, really. That said, I did enjoy the bite I took of Phil's fried tofu in black bean sauce. The sticky rice was also pretty good. It came with a spring roll. And the helpings appeared to be very generous. At the end of the day, I have to give it two stars because I've certainly had better in the area. I think this place earns fame for being a cheap college-town meal that's an alternative to pizza and subs. But when the craving for Viet food strikes, I'll be hopping in the car for a broader menu and better eats.
google avatar

Meghan B.

Yelp
Loved the food, loved the smells, loved the adorable lady that I assume is the owner. Did not really love that the sink for the bathroom is communal and in full view of the other restaurant patrons, but c'est la vie. Went on a Wednesday to try the vegetarian specials and wasn't disappointed. For $6, I got what seemed like a whole block of delicious fried tofu with black bean sauce vegetables and sticky rice. Partner in food-crime Susan Z. got their shrimp special for the night which was light and refreshing. Quick tips: bring cash, and go before 6:30pm if you don't want to wait in a line that stretches outside the tiny place. That's the sign of a good food joint.
google avatar

Jill T.

Yelp
We still love Banh's. We've been enjoying take-out this year, and I appreciate their COVID protocols. I wanted to add to my reviews because my two sons (Aged 8 and 5) regularly ask for Banh's and it is their very favorite restaurant. Last night, my younger son said "My two favorite foods are candy and Banh's!" I love both their regular and their special menus (especially the tofu Banh Mi! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Liana L.

Yelp
Banh's cuisine reminds me more of a typical (authentic) Chinese take-out place - you know, one of those places where you can get a rice box with 3 different very filling sides for $4. Except it's more expensive and you only get one side, but as far as Durham goes, this is pretty good. It's hard for me to judge Banh's because my roommate (who is not Asian and grew up in a predominantly-white suburban town) absolutely loves Banh's and comes here at least once a week. From her perspective, Banh's is amazing. She's never had anything like this before and it seems incredibly cheap (considering how filling it is). Unfortunately, this simply tastes generic to me. Of course, it's definitely a valid option; if I'm craving hearty, comfort nondescript Chinese food, I would come here. I'm not sure why it's considered Vietnamese, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it as a Vietnamese place.
