New Orleans’s Mid City Pizza Has Served Its Last Slice - Eater New Orleans

"Banks Street Bar is a half-century-old dive bar and music venue that was bought by Rand Owens in 2018. It is located across the street from the original location of Mid City Pizza, where Owens first began his pizza business. Despite challenges, including staff-wide firing, the establishment remains open." - Clair Lorell

Favorite local bar, just down the street. Got a pickup window for Bub's Burgers. Usually have weird quirky shit on the TVs, local bands, and karaoke every other Thursday hosted by Sunshine, one of my favorite drag queens.

I saw wn awesome ska show here on 7/22/2022. Great venue. Be sure to eat next door at bub's burgers!

Solid dive bar in mid city. Grungy. Next to a solid burger shop too. Must check this area out!

Great dive venue with some interesting characters frequenting it. They sometimes have some good music and always cheap drinks. I've rarely been here when it has been crowded but it used to ALWAYS be full of cigarette smoke (which I'm not a smoker and find smoke disgusting but almost everybody in this joint seemed to be a chain smoker) so this place VASTLY improved when they stopped indoor smoking in NOLA. It seems they don't have as much live music as they used to so it isn't on my regular rotation but I still end up here a few times a year.

Great neighborhood bar with friendly locals. One of the few places for live music in Midcity. Back in the day on Wednesdays, a band called Major Bacon would serve free BLT'S!! 🥓🥬🍅 Plenty of food options from the neighbor's, Pizza, burgers and breakfast joints. Got shade and plenty of outdoor seating. Thanks for letting me hang out.

Smells like pee sometimes. Music is v loud. I will always go back. Edit: new owners and bartenders are great. And it no longer smells like pee. ❤️

Yelp
This is a great little bar. I hesitate to call it divey it's just kinda old, but I guess divey fits. They make really good cheap drinks. They have like an all day happy hour Friday with 5 dollar well drink doubles. It has indoor and outdoor seating options. One of its best features though is its location. They connect to bubs burgers. So you can walk next door put in an order then sit at the bar and pick up your food from the connecting window. Bubs isn't your only option though you have mid city pizza you can grab, wakin and bacon, all kinds of food options.

Yelp
Total dive, which I love. Have to try them out on a busier night. Too quiet to really judge.

Yelp
Would not come back there. Its super trashy and bunch of homeless people kept bugging me for money. The bartender took forever to get me a drink. Service os terrible and place is a mess. Would not return or bring Anyone there.

Yelp
Super cool divey-ish bar. Has all the good stuff about a dive bar: cheap, strong drinks, food, chill patrons, good music, good times, good vibes without the dirty bathroom, sticky floors, or i-havent-been-deep-cleaned-in-years smell. It reminds me of some of my favorite bars back in Jersey. This place serves up food from next door and it includes VEGAN FOOD. Oh. my. gawd . Pretty sure I love this place. Bonus: it's off the beaten path so perf for actual locals. (And I'm definitely not one lol)

Yelp
Shaggy lil weird bar in the downtown mid city area. It's a nice spot with some picnic tables outside to hang out with the weird locals & out of Towners who moved to the area. Some nights they'll have a local band playing. There's a Philly Cheesesteak/vegan phillys beside the bar which is pretty good if your hungry!

Yelp
Literally the worst respect I've had in New Orleans for the last 10 years. I paid a 100% tip to be disrespected because one bartender decided I wanted extra service when I never asked for it. And the other bartender who I respected took his side without even hearing my side. Shame on you Bank Street Bar...

Scott D.

Yelp
They are racist, I've been in there waiting for food for over 20 mins and they refused to serve me once. If you are black this is not the place for you.

Yelp
Dam! If your a snowflake, this diff is the place to go! It's no longer a great neighborhood dive bar to go to! Overpriced for the neighborhood! Way to many other bars in a close radius for this kind of sh*t, it's no longer a fun place to go for a drink without insulting POS kids !!! Way too much PC Shit. So many other cool bars in midcity to go to for a good time!

Nicholas E.

Yelp
5 dollar Jameson/Beer combo. That's as good as it gets.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I just went there today on a spur of the moment lunch date, it has a Philly cheesecake restaurant right next-door that serves the bar you don't even have to leave the bar to get food. The bartender was really nice, I love the fact that there is a pool table there that still $.75 to play and there is a small stage and I've heard that they have shows I just haven't been able to make it to one yet. I've actually met two the bartenders when I working at my job and she was amazing and I can't wait to go back there on a night that she's there as well to experience the nighttime part of it.
