Bao Boi

My wife and I stopped in to get a order to go. We got steamed buns. It's connected to on the backside Boardwalk apartment home. It was first time going. 10/11/25

Oof the food was yummy. My bf got shrimp and another bao and I had the insanely good fried chicken. 😳 So delicious. It was super hard to find around that Boardwalk apartment complex, we had to stop and ask directions. The parking was not good, and it's paid parking only. The people we asked for directions live there & said there is no real visitor parking. The whole area was packed full of people, since there's a few restaurants and a wine place there. It was busy, but we were able to sit outside. Our very nice waiter was clearly overheated and said there was no AC inside, which when it's ungodly hot outside is NOT OKAY for your employees. Ever. So, that was a negative part of the Bao Boi experience. The food was lovely, at least. The fried chicken was crunchy and perfectly tender, and the curry they serve it with complements it really well. The Bao is perfectly squishy and tender, and the flavors were really great. They had a nice selection of drinks, too. We went to the wine place afterwards and had a good time. Even with perfect food though--keep your employees hydrated and cool in the summer. Good lord.

Definitely underwhelming. Food was good, but all our dishes were pretty bland. When we got there, the server listed over 5 things that they were either out or no longer serving on the menus. The menus were also difficult to read because they were so ruined by water and food getting on them. There was also only a single dish with Bao and it was an appetizer. Not a bad place, but I'm not taking anyone there anytime soon. Maybe after they have been open for longer.

I used to love visiting Bao Boi when it was in the Warehouse (in downtown Boise) and was very upset when the owner said he was moving to a new location [it isn't the same without Bao Boi]. I'm glad he found a better location for his business and that I can still eat this delicious food. I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. The tofu katsu curry bowl is awesome for vegetarians and the kimchi is vegetarian too. Give it a try!

Very tasty buns. I saw a review that someone posted saying there wasn't enough sauce or chicken on their bun. Idk what that person wanted because my buns were so funny of chicken that pieces were falling out between bites. Portions are small, I'll give you that but if your a big eater like me, just pregame with a light sandwich or a yogurt and you'll be satisfied. They were unfortunately out of most things when we went but the Gua Baos that we got were incredible (Nashville, Terryaki, Tofu, and Original). The kids meal we got for our two year old (karagi chicken and fruit) was soo good and he loved it. They didn't skimp on the fruit either (grapes and raspberries) the way some places do. Location is great, right off the greenbelt. We'll be coming back again soon!

Absolute perfection! We came in relatively late, but the hostess/server was so gracious and welcoming, and the kitchen staff had such a great vibe. Had our first Korean corn dog and some of the chicken and tofu baos. So delicious! Great drink selection. It was a cold and rainy night in early Feb, but this place is going to be PACKED in the spring and summer. Amazing food and great experience.

The food and service were outstanding. Bao buns are soft pillows of deliciousness and the king salmon was super fresh. It IS pretty pricey but I can handle an occasional splurge when everything else is this good. Jacqueline, Frank, and Chris, you are amazing people, thank you for providing such a great experience.

We stopped here for a light lunch on the way out of town. We sat outside in the rain, but the patio was covered. We were able to see the river, feel the cool breeze and listen to the thunder. Our waiter Arrow was the best we've had in a while- he was patient and helped us interpret the menu. He checked back several times to make sure we were good. First we had the best edamame I've ever had, charred, and with toasted sesame seeds. Then we shared the Yakisoba with chicken and the Bahn Mi- it was all so flavorful. I will definitely tell my friends about this place and add it to our list of places to bike to on the Greenbelt!

If you're wondering what happened to Bao Boi, opened and closed in under a year at this Garden City "Boardwalk Shops" location, they say they were illegally evicted and their equipment stolen by the landlord. The landlord said this was legal so that debate will work through the courts. In the meantime, Bao Boi has also announced plans to go back into business at the West End Ghost Kitchen location in Boise for take out and delivery. Date TBD but probably early 2026. So not closed for good, it seems. If you want a complete picture of this, this news story is a good reference point. Bao Boi is so fun! The concept is Bao buns, they also have various bowls like a teriyaki bowl, or a chicken bowl, along with a couple of side, salads and traditional soup like miso. The restaurant is right off of a new development on the Green belt in Garden City and you can hear the water from the restaurant. They open the side of it so it gets fresh air. It just feels really refreshing and new. The buns were really good. I ordered the classic pork bun and the teriyaki bun. The lunch special is pretty reasonably priced I would say. I think it's a great new addition to the Greenbelt and the Boise community. I can't wait for more people to check it out. The service is good. The food comes out quick and it was really fresh and juicy. A fun new concept on the green belt. You have to stop by!

Another unique addition to Garden City! Food: 4/5. The menu is different than what is online and seems to change often as they try new things. They didn't have the lumpia, but had croquettes instead which were absolutely delicious and highly recommended. We also tried 6 different bao and I think the Nashville Hot was probably my favorite. All of them tasted pretty good though. We were a little disappointed they didn't have desserts but they said they are hoping to add some. Service: 3/5. At first , we got our items quickly since we were one of the few groups there but once other groups started to arrive it took a long time to get anything that we had ordered. It also seemed like the waitress was late so one of the cooks had to fill in and take orders. Atmosphere: 4/5. The weather was nice so we were able to sit on the patio along the greenbelt. It is a good vibe and relaxing to sit outdoors. As the area gets more developed with the other additions currently under construction I think it will be a really cool atmosphere.

Really tasty and creative baos! I like the one with fried shrimp in it, the Bao is fluffy and the shrimp is still crunchy, not too much source. Since it was our first visit, the wait was very patient helping us to order and give us recommendations. Plus, the place is at a great location.

Great service. Arrived during dinner and had to wait a few mins for a table to open up for seating outside. Service was great after I got seated and I ordered the original bao and karage bao with side of kimchi croquette. Overall food was good and enjoyed my dinner.

First time eating here (5/30/2025) and we couldn't have had a more disappointing experience. The server was very snooty and boarder line straight up rude. Can't make this stuff up. we accidentally sat it the "wrong" section so then everything went downhill from there there. Ordered yakisoba with beef and it literally took 38 minutes to arrive. 15 minutes prior to getting the food, the server dropped off the machine to Pay. Who pays for their food at a sit-down restaurant before even having the food come out? She clearly wanted us GONE! Didn't catch her name but it was the lady serving the patio at 7:00pm. when the food finally did come it included a 2 inch fuzz thing. Not a hair, don't worry - just a rogue fuzz and so I tossed it aside and started to eat. I might mention that the meal came with no silverware, no chop sticks, no nothin. My wife asked about it and she said "oh I saw you had a fork from a different table and thought you'd just use that." A dirty fork mind you. After looking closer at the food and stirring it around a little it looked fine and was nice and hot. The beef however was 8 large pieces of pure fat and 5 pieces of meat. So yea, it Definitely feels the wait staff at this point was being intentional to retaliate and give us a negative time. Don't worry - we will never be back. The entire time I kept my composure and remained polite, even tipped 20%. Which again, who pays and tips before getting food and getting any service?

I heard about this joint a while back when they were at the Warehouse downtown. I never got to try it while they were there so I was bummed to find out that they weren't there anymore. I was wrong! They relocated to the dopest spot. Not gonna lie, Google has me going in circles trying to find this joint. After a quick call, I parked in the gravel parking lot next to the river. If you're trying to make it here, just turn on 41st and head towards the river. This venue is going to be poppin once it gets warm! It faces the beautiful river and it has the big garage doors in the front that they can open up. Talk about a chill vibe to enjoy your meal at! Spring and summer is going to be fun at this venue. I came in around 3 for lunch today. I was the only one there so that was nice. My server flashed a beautiful smile at me and told me to pick a table. I grabbed one by the window with a great view of the river. She handed me a couple menus, told me about the beers on tap and poured me some water. I stalked their online menu so i knew what goodies I wanted to order. I got the 2 baos for 14 bucks. I added a salad for 3 dollars. The kaarage and tofu were my bao selections. My salad came out first. It looked tasty! I appreciate that it wasn't your typical iceberg lettuce. It was a pleasant mix of greens with cucumber, carrots and cilantro. The salad dressing was delicious! it was a heavier dressing so the mix was perfect for it! It also came with these shrimp chips that added a fun and crunchy texture to the salad. My bao buns came out in the cutest bamboo steamer. The buns looked soft and the protein of each bun looked yummy. I tried the kaarage first! Talk about magical! The bun was soft and sweet. The chicken was crispy on the outside and tender. It was so flavorful! It was topped with pickled diakon and a yuzu sauce. Every bite was a different taste. It as fantastic! I did get very full off the bao bun but I did try a little of my tofu bun. It was good too! The exterior of the tofu was crusty and crunchy with the tofu in the middle being soft. It was also topped with a brown sweet and savory sauce as well as pickled diakon. I packed that baby up to take home. I can't wait to enjoy it later. I'm happy I got to try this joint out today! They also have curry options, sushi and bowl options. I'm so looking forward to coming back and trying other options on their menu.

They are in a multi food area and my friends and I decided to get this place and the place next door. Wouldn't let us have any of the food from next door at the table. What a joke of a spot.

Waiters was extremely nice and explained the menu thoroughly! However, she was the only one. Music is a good vibe and the food was absolutely delicious. The poke was good and the original Bun was great. So many flavors! Four stars just for the wait die to low staffing. Everything else was great!

Very legit place to eat! The food is amazing and very addicted. Chef Frank is very talented and an awesome cook who will blow your mind! Server Jacqueline is very nice and will always get your order correct. The seating is very pleasant and comfortably spaced out. The atmosphere is peaceful yet great for a chat. Support good small restaurants that serve up unique and not boring food!

Food very fresh and tasty. Went to the other location by the river in Garden City. Side salad good but a bit overdressed. Service sweet and attentive.

We took our daughter for her birthday the food was amazing! We got the Korean corn dog then another then a third! Rice bowls amazing kimchi rice amazing! Everything was delicious! The server even made a desert for our daughter! Definitely should try this, we will go back many times! Thank you for a great meal and experience!

Their location off the river is adorable with a great view of dense trees and a bald Eagle flying past occasionally. The corn dog was really fun and the Bao slapped. Even though they were busy we still received excellent service from the kitchen and wait staff!

I'm so glad we happened upon The Warehouse and got to discover the fantastic collection of restaurants, including Bao Boi. I am so impressed with this place. The food is excellent - easily the best I've had in this state to date. The tonkatsu was cooked well, and the Japanese curry had great flavor, but the pork belly bao was the standout item for me. The bun was so light and fluffy, and the pork belly just melts in your mouth. The sauce complements the dish very well. But I do think the pickled vegetables, both the daikon and cucumber, could bring even more to the dish if the flavor was a little stronger (but that's just me being nit-picky). It's a food court-like setup with open tables in the middle where you order your food and return to the counter to pick it up. There is a lot of open seating and the whole area is really cute and clean. The food is ready fairly quickly, and I have not been disappointed yet. I liked it so much that I came back two days in a row. It's hard to say how many more times I will return this week, but it will definitely be more than once.

All the food was amazing from the kimchi croquettes, edamame, salmon poke, baos. Highly recommend!!

First off their bao bun is awesome! All of their bowls are pretty good we tried tonkatsu, fried tofu and katsu don all were good! Service was good got our food as fast as they could make it. The ambiance is a food court style the warehouse food hall. Get a good beer eat some good food and enjoy!

The food here is so good! The Teriyaki chicken bahn mi donburri is amazing! And I love the service! The lady server is always so nice and the cook always makes me feel like I'm being taken care of like family.

This place was a massive disappointment. I was told that I would have a 15 minute wait for my meal while there were no other tickets on their board. I waited for about 25-30 in front of their counter while they burned 2 baskets of chicken and served multiple other customers. When I asked, they said they must have lost a ticket. My entire group ate and was ready to leave while I watched three adults muck about over a deep fat fryer. Pointless and disorganized.

My boyfriend and I go to the location on the Boardwalk in Garden City all the time! We LOVE IT! Great food and service!! Highly recommend the original boa and edamame

Bao Boi is so delicious. Seriously everything on the menu is phenomenal. We have eaten here several times and never been let down. I'm glad they moved to a bigger location!

We were there Sunday and the things we wanted were not available so we had two GYUDON "GEE U DON" beef bowl. Really a small bowl without much to it for $15.00 each. No forks or napkins there. It has a dispenser but had only knives. I got some from the pizza place nearby. It was flavorful but not worth it to us. I'll try something else next time.

First time there and last. Went there at 4:30 to try their sushi for my birthday dinner and ordered at 4:45. They said they don't start serving sushi until 5:00 and pointed to the note on their menu. Then waiter asked the chef if he could make the sushi and he said, "no they can order something else." All the while in the kitchen the chef was flipping and flopping his greasy hair around while cooking food. Food was distasteful and definitely not worth the $. Other customers were ordering as well and the chef said a couple of times, "that is 86ed, have them order something else." Ambiance was poor as well, no music and very small tables and hard chairs. Sad that they just opened in their new restaurant location and they definitely are not going to make it at this rate. Way too many great restaurants to compete with...We will never go back....

Got take out from Bao Boi tonight. First time trying their food. We got 4 kinds of bao: gua (pork belly), karaage chicken, teriyaki chicken, and Nashville hot chicken. They were so good! The buns were pillowy and the fillings were delicious. There were lots of people dining on the patio and it looked like everyone was having fun.

The bao buns are SO GOOD! The teriyaki chicken was so tasty and soft. The flavors were perfect. However the menu was very confusing and limited. I also could have used a better drink menu, and better seating.

Bai Boi is one of the restaurants inside the Warehouse Food Hall in BoDo, so it's set up like fast food where you order from the counter and pick it up from the counter. The Warehouse is nice enough, with other food choices for folks who don't want Japanese and two bars, one for mixed drinks and one for beer. The food is incredible at Bao Boi. The Bao buns are pillowy and soft and flavorful, and the fillings are delicious. I'm particularly fond of the pork belly Bao bun. Yummy! I also love their tonkatsu with curry sauce. The service is always great with friendly counter folks and chefs, and I've never been unhappy with anything.

Boise, unique dinning experience. You wanna spice things up, dine here. Delicious bao's, Yakisoba noodles and soup dumplings! The karaage fried chicken is the best! Save room for the kogi rice pudding...it might blow your mind!

Tried the warehouse food hall and was excited to order from Bao Boi, but the man behind the counter was very rude when I tried to order and interrupted me saying "Um, no, I'm only serving those who know what they want and have been here before because I'm trying to close."It was only 7:25PM and not supposed to close until 9:00PM.

We love this place! The staff and owner are amazing, the food is incredible, and all on the greenbelt overlooking the river! The original boa is our go to, the dish is literally perfected!

This place is just outstanding, a true commitment to quality. I have been going here since opening day and have never been disappointed. The commitment to consistency of the bao sandwiches is what keeps me returning. A stellar homemade bun with fillings that pair well with this "not found anywhere else type of vessel that holds said fillings" is not to be missed. Also, be sure to ask about the daily special. My go-to is the traditional pork belly. And.... ask for the side of spicy sauce if you are so inclined. For complete transparency, I have not tried anything else on the menu. I just can not seen to get past the bao buns; however, I am working on this.

The saltiness!!! I think I felt my blood pressure go up eating this. I got the chicken curry. The curry itself come on the side so you can add however much that you want. I added maybe half of the container. It had a good flavor, but salty. The chicken itself was crispy, but salty. The customer service was really good. I think the main chef helped me. The restaurant itself seemed like it was just minimal cooking. Deep fryer, maybe a cutting board. Nothing that is really cooking. Probably won't come again. Not worth the $14 that I spent.

I always love to eat at Bao Boi. The chicken teriyaki rice bowl was served fresh & hot. The serving was large. The wait was short and service was with a smile.

The pork belly bao buns were to die for! Such good flavor on the pork belly. Buns were airy and light. Cucumbers were perfect acidic addition on top. All the food in the Warehouse is a little expensive but overall really good.

The curry sauce on both the Tonkatsu and the Tofu-katsu is incredible. Seeing some 1 star reviews due to slowness and agree that early on there were ticket time issues but I think they have largely worked thru this, try them again!

Sooooo sloooow. It's been 35 minutes and we still don't have food. This place is supposed to be quick? Other members of our party ordered at other places in The Warehouse, and they have got their food, eaten it and are working on dessert as we wait for our food from Bao Boi.

Stopped in for lunch today. Sampled the bao buns- all were so good! And the fries with curry ketchup were delicious and addictive. Highly recommend.

Truly such a gem. Kind of unsuspecting but the food is incredible. I was blown away! The bao were so yummy and there were lots of options. Definitely don't skip on this one.

This is my fourth time and I will tell you each time I hesitate. The experience is identical each time. Ordered a bowl with no rice just extra cabbage. Should not be complicated however, it was put behind five other orders because it was "custom ". 30 minutes later, it still has not been started. Like I said, my experience is identical each time. There's always an excuse. The owner is basically making everything by himself. I watched him tell others that it will be 30 minutes before he can get caught up. I think I'll pass next time.

wonderful Asian inspired street food. Highly recommend going here in the food warehouse.

Finding delicious asian food in Idaho isn't an easy task but the Warehouse has some of the best options in the whole state and Bao Boi is a standout! The steamed buns are fabulous with the Pork Belly being the standout, perfect bun and delicious meat. But my new favorite Downtown Boise lunch plate is the Tonkatsu Bowl with breaded pork cutlet and a perfectly spiced curry that is worth coming for even if it's just their curry fries. Don't miss Bao Boi....

Very unique and delicious! The pork belly and teriyaki chicken bao's were amazing! Fun atmosphere in the warehouse.
