I ordered delivery tonight and specifically called ahead to request no spice or very little spice on the Bamboo Flounder. The restaurant confirmed this was possible. The reality was the complete opposite. The Bamboo Flounder was extremely spicy and filled with an unbelievable quantity of hot peppers, which I had to pick out just to try and eat it. Shockingly, it wasn't just that dish—every single entree we ordered contained a similarly excessive amount of spice and peppers. The food was inedible, and my specific instructions were completely disregarded. It was a total waste of money. This level of inattention to a customer's request is unacceptable. I cannot recommend this restaurant and will not be ordering from here again. (The only saving grace was the wonton soup, which thankfully arrived without any peppers.)

Really sweet server Alice! Compared my smile to a Malay artist. Had lots of fun joking around and the food is very good. Note under new management only cash tips!

Google
Our server Alice was amazing! She gave us so many good recommendations and amazing service!! The food was super good, lots of different options and not expensive. We will definitely be back to see Alice!

Google
Food was alright. Service was alright. Atmosphere was alright. Prices were too high for the flavor/experience. Food: Got the Sichuan chili wontons, fried eggplant in sweet and sour sauce, and gold mountain chicken. The Sichuan chili wontons had no chili flakes or chilis in general, covered in a curry sauce for some reason?? And tasted nothing like Sichuan style food. Somehow they were the best item I had there, still. The eggplant had a good texture and flavor, except the dish was filled heavily with lemongrass, to the point that it left my mouth numb lol ... The gold mountain chicken was fine. The restaurant have a clean atmosphere, but for some reason they only played southern country music ... Tough choice for a Chinese restaurant.

Love the food at Bao GoGo in Alpharetta! You don’t have to travel to Duluth or Buford Highway to enjoy authentic, high-quality Chinese cuisine. My favorites include the spicy numbing flounder and stir-fried green beans, among many others. The spice level can be adjusted if you ask, so it’s perfect for any taste. I usually grab a boba tea from the same plaza, which pairs perfectly with the meal. The staff is friendly and attentive, making it an all-around great dining experience!

Google
Had a really excellent experience here. Alice was super helpful. The food was very tasty—especially the Eggplant and tofu which had just the right amount of spice and crunch. Everything came out hot and fresh, and the portions were generous too. Definitely one of the better spots I’ve tried in a while. Can’t wait to come back and try more dishes!

Google
I ordered this through a food delivery service, I think through UberEats or something along that line. So, the prices were up-charged through the app, so I’m not going to be able to comment on prices. But I can comment on the food. I wanted to get take-out delivered to me because I’d had a long day and wanted something that would be comforting and delicious. I was disappointed that the fried pork dumplings were seemingly not made in-house, and the chicken with broccoli was lacking in savory flavor. I wish that there was more richness to the sauce. The chicken and broccoli itself were cooked fine, but the sauce makes the dish, and it was lacking. The white rice was fine, and it ended up being a lot of food. Overall, I was a little disappointed with my experience, but I imagine it’s different from eating inside the restaurant.

Google
Very disappointing. I came to look for an authentic Chinese food. I told the waiter to give me half Peking duck. After few minutes, the waiter gave me less than half. I asked if the order is right because I’m looking for my favorite part, the wing and the neck, and it’s missing. I tasted and ate and it’s crispy but not much marinated. Once again, I asked the waiter if I ordered it right for a hefty price. Again, they said yes. I did it for the third time for them to understand that there’s something wrong with my order. I don’t like people lying to my face. But I gave them a chance to correct their services three times. One waiter admitted their chicken is very small. Only the picture in front of the restaurant is big, but they have me like a one-fourth size for an expensive price. That’s very deceptive. I already told the waiter that Peking duck is my favorite. But they messed up. That’s not the right way to treat a customer. Certainly, not coming back. Very disappointing experience.

Yelp
Great spot in the area for a Sichuan fix. The hot and numbing flounder is delicious, and the kitchen gets dishes out quickly.

Yelp
Hard to find an opened restaurant on thanksgiving day. Glad this one is open and food is surprisedly good. Very authentic. Servicer is very happy and nice too. Would definitely revisit to try other dishes.

Yelp
HAI in Alpharetta was A-OK! We were in the Windward area and I was craving Chinese food - and thankfully we found Hai right around the corner. We had the pup with us and there was outdoor seating that was dog friendly. We ordered the "Xiao Long Bao" Pork Soup Dumplings (5 for $10), the dry fried string beans and the hot and numbing flounder stone pot. The dry fried string beans and the spicy flounder were solid Szechuan dishes. I was a little disappointed by the soup dumplings - the skin was ok - not too thick and didn't break. The filling was also ok. But for $2 a dumpling... I was expecting much more. Overall, definitely recommend if you're craving Szechuan food, but I would say maybe skip the soup dumplings next time!

Yelp
If you like authentic Chinese food, this should be your go to place! The flavor is out of this world, everything is fresh and the service is excellent! You definitely have to try it plus the prices are very reasonable!

Yelp
Spicy! Fresh! So good! Very clean spot with great service. It's quiet and a gem, to be honest! We had the grandma's noodles, crispy eggplant, which was amazing and then some spicy chili chicken app with a little white rice on the side. Loved it! Pretty great authentic Chinese

Yelp
Great food excellent service! Seating area was clean and inviting. Adequate seating for small groups. They also have patio seating if you prefer.

Yelp
Improved service. About the only General Tso's I know that has any level of heat to it.

Yelp
Alice our server was amazing! Excellent service love the scallion pancake and the chicken hot pot. Flavorful and loaded with Chinese veggies. The restaurant is very clean and pretty light fixtures.

Yelp
Visited for the first time today. It was good, but below expectations food wise. Service was good as well as the atmosphere, upscale casual. The duck buns were similar to Peking Duck. These were good, but the duck lacked flavor. The fish filet with chili was my favorite dish, quite tasty with the perfect balance of heat and flavor. The fish filets were cooked just right retaining their flavor and tender texture. I would definitely order this again. Chicken fried rice was good, but nothing special and missing any hint of wok hei. Chicken strips were marinated well remaining tender and stir fried with diced onions and bean sprouts that were so few they were barely noticeable. I give this a 3 out of 5 stars. Singapore noodles could be a very tasty and satisfying dish, buy not here. Where most restaurants serve this with a mix of shrimp and roast pork, Hai only uses shrimp. This dish was quite bland with hardly any curry flavor. The noodles were very dry and chewy and the lack of green peppers and sprouts made this dish pretty one dimensional and uninspiring. I give this a 2 out of 4 stars. Though disappointing overall, I will be back again to give them a chance at redemption, perhaps trying some of their more regional spicy dishes. I hope they don't disappoint a second time or it will be my last time.

Yelp
Food: Mediocre Service: Good Ambiance: Nicely decorated My hubby and I were on the hunt for a new Resturant to try! Our first choice was closed. So we decided to try Hai. I love dim sum. We ordered shrimp tempera, egg drop soup, chrispy pig feet, soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings, and sesame chicken. The sesame chicken looked and tasted like it came out of the freezer, The sauce tasted like it came out of a jar. Definitely not made in house. The egg drop soup was the worst I've ever tasted. It was tasteless. They definitely didn't add sesame seed oil. However, the crispy pig feet and tempura shrimp were really good! This is the only reason I'm giving them 3 stars.

Jessica M.

Yelp
Food was so good. We will definitely be back. We got the fried eggplant with sweet and sour sauce and the Szechuan Chicken and chili wontons. They were all so good!!

Yelp
We had a family style lunch where we ordered various entrees, including the fried sea bass. The fish was great, tons of flavor and the chicken and beef dishes were also just as good. Service was quick and friendly and prices were affordable. Would recommend coming here for authentic Chinese food.

Yelp
--Location/Parking-- Limited parking in the strip mall. Maybe 2 or 3 spots maximum. I recommend parking closer to the LA fitness. It is a small walk, but worth the traffic jam in front of the restaurant. --Ambience-- A low key chinese restaurant. I think they have multiple locations. This one feels like every other chinese restaurant. --Service/Staff-- Staff was the typical server I see at every chinese restaurant. --Food/Products-- Food was made to order and freshly prepared by expert chefs. I don't think I found a dish that tasted bad. --Capacity-- I order to go so the place looks it can hold over a dozen of parties of 4. --Overall-- Great Chinese food. Ignore the decor and typical stereotype and enjoy the awesome Chinese food without the long drive to the city.

Yelp
What a gem !! So hard to find good food and great service. This little restaurant has just that I was driving around and had an appointment in area so stopped for lunch. They have a great lunch special I ordered pork dumplings steamed and chicken/ shrimp Szechuan dumplings. Fresh and amazing. I am coming back every time in area

Yelp
I love this place! As i entered the restaurant, host came up and sat me immediately in this casual place. The menu had tons of vegetarian options, and I couldn't decide what to choose, so I asked the waiter for recommendation. He recommended Hot and Numbing Casserole and he was spot on! The service was fast and food came out in on time after placing an order. The food came out bin this wok with bunsen burner lit under wol to keep the dish nice and hot. The dish had tons of vegetables and it was nice and spicy. The recommendation was spot on and was extremely satisfied with the choice. It was an authentic Chinese dish from Sichuan region. The Sichuan peppers used in this dish were perfect numbing my mouth. I would come back here again just for this dish as I have not found it jn another restaurant..
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
The ambiance does not match the cuisine. It says they are dim sum but the menu had very few items for dim sum. The photos on the outside of the restaurant showed more than what they serve. Some food items Yelpers said they ate were not found on the menu. Service was ok. It was not bad but considering there weren't customers when I dined it was not great. Overall the food was ok but nothing memorable or great. The crispy pork feet were tasty. Singapore noodle was lacking flavor and only had shrimp as the protein. The fried eggplant was standard tasting. The crispy pork was not what was expected and was difficult to eat. Not pictured is the soup dumpling which had soup inside but the dumpling skin itself was too thick and doughy.

Yelp
Name changed to Bao Gogo. If you're visiting Alpharetta and don't have really good Chinese at home, go here or order delivery now. Truly authentic flavors with fresh ingredients. Changed to more of a low-service model but the food is great. Grandma noodles are my wife's favorite. I can't do super hot any more so got shredded chicken with carrots, bell peppers and wood mushrooms.

Yelp
Craving for szechuan foods! We came across this place. Not too busy at night. We got serve right away. Everything came out so good and I ordered what i usually like to try and eat. The inside is clean and booths are nicer. Would definitely go back for more.

Yelp
For authentic Sichuan flavors, Hai by the Windward is a must-try. They offer a variety of appetizers and mains in generous portions. The mapo tofu and flounder fish clay pot are exceptional, and this presentation of the basil chicken locks in all its delicious flavors. Don't miss the three pepper chicken, which pairs well with rice and noodles Their grandma's noodles with red chili oil are oh so yummy , Trust me, you won't be disappointed. Let me know if you try any of my favorites!

Yelp
We have been searching for what we consider to be the best fried rice since we have moved here. There have been tons of options and this was one of them. We picked up food and brought it home. We had several orders of the chicken fried rice, some combination fried rice and the pot stickers... all of it was good, but yet still not what we consider the best. It is up there! And we would eat from here again... but our search for the best continues...
google avatar

Georgia T.

Yelp
Mapo tofu was authentic and good, their dragon eggplant was one of the best I've had. flavorful, perfect balance of sweet and sour and I liked the sliced circles. pepper beef, while a little too sweet, was the much needed variety (there's asparagus and peppers and onions). Portion sizes huge, lots of leftovers.

Yelp
I'm from San Francisco Bay Area and know what good Asian food is and love finding yummy soup dumplings. Hai was a complete let down when we were craving Chinese and honestly some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. The Dan Dan noodles and wontons had an overpowering, bitter taste from the Szechuan peppercorns. So bitter that it was impossible to finish the dish, which was too big of a turn off for me. Soup dumplings tasted interestingly, just like the Costco frozen ones (not saying they are, but sad that it was the same quality) with a thick and doughy exterior and meatball-like filling. And Mongolian beef and lo mein reminded me of Panda Express. I will not be coming back.

Yelp
It's a hit & miss. I tried their Grandma 's Noodle + Szechuan Chili Wontons for to go and it was delicious. It was so good that I took my family to eat lunch on a Sunday afternoon the following weekend. We ordered a few items such as Crispy Pigs Feet, Mongolian Beef, Wuhan Sesame Noodles, Minced Flounder Fish Tofu and Shredded Pork in Spicy Garlic Sauce. These are just alright. The beef, tofu and pork dishes were not as authentic as I'd like. To me those tasted like American Chinese food. Next time I'll stick with their special and more authentic dishes.

Yelp
Food was really good large portions very friendly staff they just opened up. We're actually still hanging lights

Yelp
I just wanted to add, we've recently tried their chongqing fried chicken and now it's a must for every order!

Yelp
The food is perfectly balanced for our taste buds. The ambience and proximity of the restaurant is great. The staff is really good and quick so you don't have to worry about the service. We really enjoyed our family dinner at Hai

Yelp
Best Chinese food around! Their dan dan noodles are delicious. The dry fried cauliflower dry fried eggplant , Hunan fish or chicken, spicy 3 pepper chicken, grandma noodles are all favorites.

Yelp
Our second visit just as good as the first one. We repeated three items that we loved on our first visit.Service is a bit slow but food is fresh and flavorful. Service - 3.5/5 Food - 4/5 Ambience - 4/5

Yelp
Great food and decent prices. Loved the bubble pancake and curry sauce. Will definitely be back. Can't wait to try Grandmas noodles.

Yelp

Yelp
Hai was a nice surprise. Stopped in this shopping area to eat Thai but the place we used to go to was permanently closed. Next door is Hai! Clean, good service, and the food is really good at least what we tried. We had the chicken fried rice and the sesame chicken. One of the best fried rice we ever had, full of veggies and white chicken. Will go again for sure.
google avatar

Phuong D.

Yelp
I was pleasantly impressed with Hai! This spot seemed very fusion from the outside, but Hai is probably my #1 Szechuan spot now. The Interior is simple. Plenty of parking spots in the plaza. Service is quick and great. We sat down as soon as we arrived and the food came out pretty fast. Food: * Szechuan Chili Wontons ($10 for 6): Very tasty! I like these without the mustard sauce on top. Some people LOVE the mustard- but it is not for me. Otherwise, it's a super tasty app - must order! * Szechuan Chili Chicken ($16): Tasty and not too spicy. Lots of flavors and it comes out wrapped in a duck-shaped(?) aluminum foil. I thought that was a little strange, but this one was good. Lots of chicken too. * Hot & Numbing Flounder ($20): FAVE! This is a must-order for me. This entree comes with a lot of flounder. Bean sprouts at the bottom. This dish does have peppercorns which I am not a fan of, but I basically just dodge those when I can (lol). * Three Spice King Mushroom and Beef ($16): Eh. The mushroom and beef were overdone. There was way more mushroom than beef. I wouldn't order this again. Tip: Check this place out during their $11 lunch specials! You can try the Hot & Numbing Flounder then and save $$~ Overall, I'm a fan! They have a location in Decatur too. Definitely worth checking out!!

Yelp
I had someone rave about this place and say it was exactly like what she had in China, but I wonder where she was in China to get food like this. It wasn't horrid, but it wasn't exactly China standards either. Whole fish: I wanted to get this dish because its pretty extravagant in China, typically made with squirrel fish in Jiangsu cuisine. I wasn't expecting squirrel fish here, but it was like a mini version of it. It was a little too fishy in some parts and the sweet and sour sauce was a bit cloying, but it was better with rice. Eggplant: Visually stunning concept, but it was a bit difficult to break apart and eat, plus too saucy for our taste. Flavor was nice, and rice sort of offsets the immense amount of sauce. Xiao long bao: Nothing to write home about, but I'm glad that there was indeed broth when I bit into it. Overall, everything was okay flavor wise, but could use less sauce. I'm curious to see if their spicy pots are better, so I'll be back!
google avatar

Jen S.

Yelp
Food is good. It's not great but it's pretty good. Service is alright too. We ordered the szechuan chili chicken, three pepper beef, and the dry fried eggplant. The chicken and eggplant were good. If you're not able to handle spice though the chicken might be too hot. The beef was too sweet though. I would say though that getting the lunch special looks like good bang for your buck. I didn't get a lunch special but I saw a lot of other people getting them and it's $10 for the order with rice, soup, and some wonton crackers. All in all, I think it's worth the trip! Ample parking too.

Yelp
Horrible experience. Came in to get some food the day after Christmas. The server that sat us acted like we'd done something wrong choosing to eat at his restaurant. Another couple walked out due to not being greeted and the server rolled his eyes at them. Then another couple came in and he failed to greet them after 10mins. They walked out as well. Same thing server seemed completely unaffected by them leaving. How are you going to stay in business with this kind of attitude? There are too many places in Alpharetta for this kind of service. We walked out and another couple followed us. Also see their response attached to this review.
google avatar

Mansi R.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place whenever we want authentic Chinese cuisine. There haven't been too many things we've tried that we haven't enjoyed so far. Two go tos we always get are Grandma's noodles and the Szechuan Chili Chicken. You can't go wrong with those. Other items we've enjoyed are the lamb chops, dry fried eggplant, and veggie dumplings that we would get again. The restaurant is clean and bright with servers that check on you often. The food arrives quickly and we always leave full and happy!
google avatar

Cheryl R.

Yelp
Very authentic, one thing we noticed they don't seem to use a lot of oil which is really nice. I highly recommend the fried cauliflower, that was amazing. The garlic cucumbers A+ Was with a large group and everyone seemed to be very happy with their food.
google avatar

Mimi D.

Yelp
The lo mein was delish and wish I was there with a big group to try a lot of things. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked amazing.

Yelp
We came here for dinner on a Saturday night and it was pretty empty so it was no problem getting seated. We were there at an early time, but even by the time we left, there weren't many more parties. They did have lots of to-go orders though while we were there. This made parking in their shared lot easy. We were here primarily for the soup dumplings, but found many other good things on the menu. We had the scallion pancake, chili wontons, beef tendon, grandma noodles, and of course the soup dumplings. The dumplings were good, skin not too thichk. The tendon truly numbing with the numbing sauce. The size of the portions was good. The surprise was how good the grandma noodles were. The garlic was not too strong and the hot chili oil never fails. Lastly, the pancakes were amazing! It was a steam filled ball that puffed up and was so unique and cool. It was not too greasy. A great OTP spot right off the freeway.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best chinese place in Alpharetta. They specialize in sichuan cuisine. The pancake here is the best on the menu! Its a must try. Comes with a dipping sauce. We tried a lot of items from menu lomein, friedrice, grandma noodles, dan dan noodles, crispy pork . All of them taste great! The noodles on small plates are decent portion. Can easily be eaten as main course. Huge portions and prices arent bad (not cheap as your typical chinese take out).
google avatar

Kevin Z.

Yelp
TLDR: One of the few authentic Chinese restaurants in the Alpharetta area, with a specialization in Sichuan (tingly spicy) cuisine. Meals are on the heavier and pricier side but very much worth it for a genuine pallet. One of the first Chinese restaurants we found in the area and probably the go-to in the future. We've had several dishes at the restaurant, ranging from eggplant or cauliflower to the pork kidney (腰花)or pork intestine (大肠), and all of them were hits. I can't make any recommendation on the "classic" Chinese dishes like Orange Chicken or General Tso's, but the dishes we got here that we've had in China were all on point. On the flip side, I will say that the dishes tend to have too much salt and msg for my liking. Most of the spicey dishes have been a bit too spicey for us, and we have an average spice tolerance for minority Americans. The entrees are also relatively pricey, so if 3 people want to have a diverse full meal, it would come out to ~$30/person with a good tip. However, you can customize salt and spicey levels through the waiter, and they will relay it to the kitchen. We've still been consistently coming regardless. Hai's is definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Kenge G.

Yelp
I was in the area, read the Yelp reviews and thought I'd give Hai a shot! I was neither impressed nor surprised. I could tell they'd spent a pretty penny classing up the joint. Hai looked nice inside, like first date nice. But as long as the food is delicious and authentic it could be a hole in the wall. I should have driven to Buford Hwy... My take-out Sesame chicken was piping hot, fresh and a decent sized portion. It took less than 10 minutes. But I didn't care for the flavor. This was hardly "authentic" Chinese food (says the girl who's never been to China.) I'm pretty sure they don't add a bunch of sugar to the dish. I had to check my receipt to make sure I hadn't ordered sweet and sour! Also, it was breaded too soft so it didn't reheat well. It was a bit of a soggy mess. Definitely not worth $14. Sorry Hai, it's a no for me.
google avatar

Arianne L.

Yelp
It was just ok. Flavors weren't there. We normally enjoy Szechuan cuisine and it seemed to be missing something. Just not as good of a flavor profile Xiao long bao 4/5 Steamed pork buns 2.5/5 Dan dan noodles 4/5 Chongching chili chicken 3/5 Crispy shrimp appetizer 3/5
google avatar

Samavi A.

Yelp
My friend and I drove to Alpharetta for a few food spots. We stopped here for dinner and it did not disappoint. We ordered some veggie dumplings to share. Wish there were more variations of dumpling besides pork. My friend ordered a beef dish which was very flavorful and a good amount of heat. I was recommended the 3 pepper chicken and it was also very tasty with a right balance of umami and spice. Overall very great dinner!
google avatar

Marcus O.

Yelp
Hai Authentic Chinese is such a welcome addition to the Alpharetta dining landscape. The spicy Szechuan flavors are nearly unique to the west side of 400 this far north. Hai offers a comprehensive menu consisting of appetizers, small plates, and full entrees providing a range of diverse flavors and textures. With all of the handmade dough going into the dumplings and noodles, it was difficult to deciding what to try which practically ensures more trips back to this place. If you're a fan of pork, the crispy pork belly is a great way to start though the puffed scallion pancake has such an interesting texture. The curry sauce on the side is scrumptious. The dumplings here have that wonderful chewiness that cannot be replicated by mass production. This shows itself in the pan-fried dumplings as well as the soup dumplings. Both lacked a bit umami which I was hoping which make a stronger presence. Enjoyed it quite a bit though. The wide noodles in Grandma's dumpling picks up all of the chili peppers and sauce, but the flavor profile is largely heat and not enough flavor. There's a hint of lemon grass or something that gives it a nice tang but could have used more of it. Still, come winter, I am going to be craving it. The server roped me into trying their dessert with her animated description of how they rolled the rice cakes out by hand and finish it off with a nice, crispy texture. It's sprinkled with sweetness and given a little depth with red bean powder. Pack up your meal and leave room for dessert. You're not going to find it anywhere else around here.

Yelp
After many satisfactory visits to Hai I visited the restaurant on 3/28/25 and it now has changed names to Bao Gogo. The format is totally different, and it is not for the best, as it is getting to be close to the old NYC Automat restaurants. There is a man at the door directing you to order from a wall-mounted screen, then you pay. For drinks like tea, you are given a metal cup, and a bag of tea, then directed to a separate hot water dispenser. There is no wait staff at all. After that you go to a table and wait for your number to be called so you can collect your food from the counter. Totally unsatisfactory experience. The rice felt crunchy (not al dente), like if it had been fixed much earlier, then put aside to air dry on a counter. I will not be returning.

Chas D.

Yelp
Hai was great. Food, service, etc. New owners screwed it up. Now you order at a kiosk, wait for them to call your number then go up to the counter to get your food. All of it at the same time. Then, when you're done, you have to take your tray back to the front, clean your own table and plates. And then they ask you for a tip. I used to go twice a week, and bring My colleagues for lunch, I refuse to go back. Sometimes you just leave things alone.
