Where To Eat Before Going ‘Out Out’

"Tomorrow will inevitably be for naps and Netflix. But tonight is for Bao And Bing. The bao at this slick Taiwanese spot in Marylebone are pretty decent but more importantly, the low red lighting is just the right amount of sexy and the cocktails are excellent. You’ll definitely want to get involved in the datong negronis, the gin packed Danshui Riverside, and - if you’re prepared to risk cracking out your dance interpretation of a jellyfish in public - get involved in their ice lollies too." - heidi lauth beasley, eileen twum

Celebrated a birthday here, and was very impressed by the karaoke system and room. The song list was very up to date and had all of the songs we wanted to sing. The karaoke system was also straightforward to use, and it was easy to queue up songs. The room itself was nice and I can definitely see the inspiration behind it. They have AC in the room too. It was quite comfortable with 6 people, but any more and the table space would be quite limited. Drinks were reasonably priced - the beer cocktails at £5 a pop were refreshing and great tasting. We did have a variety of food as well, but the main focus was on karaoke so didn’t pay too much attention to the food. I did like the Taiwanese chicken breast, and noodle soup though. They apparently ran out of fried chicken after we ordered one portion - bit of a shame! There was a good selection of food for vegans/vegetarians as well, so good for those with dietary requirements.

Friendly staff, easy ordering. Inside and outside seating. I tried the vegan spicy crispy daikon bun… I could only take one bite. It just tased off. The fried chicken was a hit and the sake bombs were fun. They had a few vegan options. I would try something else maybe I just ordered bad or maybe all the vegan stuff is terrible… hard to say without trying it all.

First time going here and it was amazing. Our waiter was so kind and helpful - so upset we didn’t get his name to mention him here. The food was visually beautiful and so full of flavour, the bao buns were delicious and the perfect size— I definitely will come again!! <3

First time visit and the beef marrow noodles and shrimp bao were the stars of the show. The pork baos filling really good with lots of flavor but the bao was a bit dry. They ran out of lamb dumplings so we ordered the mushroom dumplings which were just meh. Mango coconut tea and peanut milk tea quenched our thirst. I'm from the San Francisco bay area and I was surprised there was no Sriracha or chili oil to add for more taste. Overall worth the visit.

BAO Marylebone is always a hit for us—cheap, cheerful, and packed with flavour! 🥢✨ We especially love the classic pork bao—pillowy soft bun with tender pork inside, just the perfect combo. Each bite was satisfying, and it’s hard not to order more than one! It’s a great spot for a casual meal, and even though it’s quick and simple, the quality is top notch. Highly recommend if you’re craving something comforting and delicious without breaking the bank. 🐷🍔🤍

Incredible food - we came on a Friday night and the place wasn’t too busy but service was friendly and food was just plain amazing. The most authentic Taiwanese beef noodles with the richest yet clear beef broth, similar to a birria flavour with fantastic freshly made chewy noodles. Bao’s taiwanese fried chicken also never misses. They also have a fun interactive VR menu! We took the £25 pp meal for the table and it was absolutely worth the money - definitely go visit at your earliest convenience!

Will be dreaming about this meal until my next visit and I will make it my mission to eat my way through the menu of all locations. The staff could not have been nicer or more attentive and the atmosphere is lovely and cozy. I had the pleasure of sitting at the counter and got to watch all of the energy that goes into these perfectly prepared dishes. I had the smacked Chili cucumbers that were packed with flavor and such a generous portion (Din Tai Fung WHO?!). But, the showstopper for me was the Prawn Shiao Song Bao, the fried bun was crisp on the outside and delicately soft in the middle and served warm and the prawns were dressed in a delicious sweet mayonnaise and the whole thing quite literally melts in your mouth. Finally I had the 40 Day Aged Beef Rice which was so rich and flavorful. The salty creamy yolk, the perfectly tender beef and smoky torched rice all paired together perfectly. I highly recommend getting all of these dishes. Also, the peanut milk, don’t skip it if you love peanut butter. So light and refreshing and not overly sweet. I also MUST shout out the people doing the creatives for BAO, as a former Habbo Hotel obsessed tween, I appreciate you and your designs more than you know.

Good Taiwanese food as per usual for the brand however service was absolutely obnoxious and killed the mood for us, especially for one waitress working there. She slammed our starter on the table without so much as an apology and dashed off. Then the same with one of our drinks spilling part of its content without a sorry. Then the kicker, I asked about a menu item that we ordered to ensure that it was correct as we are not familiar with the food and got a very snappy yes and irritated look and no explanation. Upon asking again she just repeated her answer with the same look as if I was some sort of idiot. I have never had such bad service in a long time and such open hostility. I did not want to make a scene and luckily the qr code worked so I could pay for the meal and leave without having to deal with her childish tantrum anymore. The hostess was not much better as we also overheard her lecturing other tables about ordering and gave us a nonchalant goodbye when we left. If we are such an inconvenience, we are happy to go to the adjacent restaurants in the area. Certainly will never be coming back to this Bao location whilst they have these people still on duty there!
