Where To Eat Before Going ‘Out Out’

"Tomorrow will inevitably be for naps and Netflix. But tonight is for Bao And Bing. The bao at this slick Taiwanese spot in Marylebone are pretty decent but more importantly, the low red lighting is just the right amount of sexy and the cocktails are excellent. You’ll definitely want to get involved in the datong negronis, the gin packed Danshui Riverside, and - if you’re prepared to risk cracking out your dance interpretation of a jellyfish in public - get involved in their ice lollies too." - heidi lauth beasley, eileen twum

They do a lunch deal with decent value - bao + side + main. The bao was a highlight, followed by surprisingly good spicy cucumber, then the aubergine which would have been better served hot. The noodles were quite underwhelming - not very flavourful, lukewarm broth, clumpy noodles and not much beef. Lovely service from the folks at marylebone who were very sweet to our dog as well.

I’ve been keen to try this place for a while after the hype for their 40-day aged steak rice, and being Michelin recommended. Ranking the dishes I tried from best to worst: Classic Braised Pork Bao: best-in-class bao. Juicy and flavorful meat, soft bun - everything you want in a good bao. Could eat 5x of these. Soy glazed aubergine: 4/5. Interesting and unique flavors, but not jumping at you too much. 40-day aged steak rice: 3/5. Satisfying bites, loved the idea behind it. For 15 pounds, very little food though, and the beef was on the chewier side rather than super tender. Taiwanese beef noodle soup: I was surprisingly quite underwhelmed by this soup. Extremely mild, borderline lacking taste, for my taste. The service was good and quick, while confused with the meal deal, which took a few iterations to get it right when paying. Would come back and try more dishes, especially the bao selection, which was by far the best choice.

The fried chicken was great but other than that, food was decent. Portions were leaning towards the smaller size. The drinks were pretty disappointing. The waiting staff were fantastic though and good amount of space between tables.

Excellent food, great service. Just a little overcrowded but not surprised as the place is really popular! Highly recommend you try the chefs choices, the dry aged beef rice did not disappoint 😌

I came here to try the Taiwanese Fried Chicken (£20). The presentation was nice and the portion generous, but honestly, it wasn’t as good as the ones I’ve tried before — the flavour was decent but not amazing, and it could’ve been crispier. The place itself has a great vibe though, and I liked the easy ordering system with the pocket waiter. Overall, still a good experience, inpaid around 20 pound.

Visited on December 26th 2025. Walked in as a party of two without a reservation and waited about 20 minutes. Minimal interior, ordering via app, food is brought to the table and payment by card only. Shared a menu with classic braised pork bao, mushroom dumplings, fried chicken and Taiwanese beef noodle soup — all perfectly fine, but nothing particularly memorable. The 40 day aged beef rice, however, is a definite must-try! Overall, food is pretty good value for London standards. Just a heads-up: there’s basically no table service, yet a service charge (around 12%) is automatically included in the bill without being clearly mentioned.

The place is small but cosy, the interactive menu helps you choose better, and the food is spectacular! Incredible value for money. I should also add that I asked if a bao could be made without spicy condiments, and when the waiter brought it, he told me that the chef had tried to remove as much as possible, so I think the customer service is exceptional. Thank you very much!

I love BAO—it’s a place that keeps me coming back. The beef and prawn baos are exceptional, with soft, fluffy buns and flavorful, well-balanced fillings. The chicken bao is decent, but if you order all three, you’ll likely be too full to enjoy a main. They also have a solid selection of starters, and I’d definitely recommend ordering a couple of vegetable dishes to balance things out. The dumplings are fine, but they’re not a standout and wouldn’t be my top recommendation. Poor drink selection too I must say. All three of the rice mains are really good, and I’ve enjoyed each one I’ve tried. I haven’t had the chance to explore their other mains yet, but based on my experiences so far, they’re definitely worth coming back for.
