Date Night Bars and Restaurants in Charlotte, North Carolina | Eater

"Natural wine enthusiasts, this is the place. There’s a curated wine list, with fizzy pét-nats and chilled reds, that makes somewhat less popular wine styles and grape varietals more accessible. Here, the caviar is spooned on potato chips with a dollop of creme fraiche. The charcuterie is impressive too, with both local and imported cheese, spanning from funky to ripe to creamy, and sharp. And don’t forget to order the local-favorite Verdant Bread, which comes with a pat of butter and flaky salt." - Kayleigh Ruller

9 Best Romantic Restaurants in Charlotte | Eater Carolinas

"Reservation-free Bar a Vins is more of a well, bar, than a restaurant, but the snacks are a delight. It’s intimate and simple, relying on a trusty pared-back aesthetic and bottles and bottles of chilled reds to create a standout date or gal’s night, like a little aperitivo hour or a cozy nightcap. The servers here know their wine — a lot of which can’t be found elsewhere in town — so don’t be afraid to experiment and ask questions. There’s nothing rigid or old-world about Bar a Vins; it’s got ’90s hip-hop on aux and caviar on Lay’s chips to prove it." - Kayleigh Ruller

Best Restaurants for a Date Night in Charlotte, North Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Nestled between storefronts on Charlotte’s walkable North Davidson strip, Bar à Vins’ hand-picked by-the-glass menu gifts visitors with some friendly, some experimental, yet all delightful natural wines, like a chilled red blend or stone-fruity skin-contact sauvignon blanc. The “fancy” caviar service — trout roe and creme fraiche dolloped on Lay’s chips — makes the casual sexy. Maybe it’s all of this, or maybe it’s the killer aux, but BAV serves up a modern drink and an unpretentious, yet impress-your-date vibe. Pro tip: BAV hosts some of the Charlotte region’s best sommelier and chef takeover pop-ups for a fun, dinner party vibe." - Kayleigh Ruller

Went for the first time last night. Lovely service from the two ladies at the park (one of them sings spontaneously…loved it) there was also a very knowledgeable man who assists with buying the wines. Very friendly. Our bread, meat and cheese combo was delicious. Atmosphere was perfect including Tupac on the soundtrack. I will for certain, return.

Large selection of wine. All the wines are organic, biodynamic. That means they use sustainable practices. Harry the GM and our bartender was very helpful picking wines for us. We like dry white wine and they had 6 by the glass to choose from. We already had dinner so we got a small side of olives. They have a large selection of food. Of all the wine bars in Charlotte this place has the location and vibe we like. Edit. A friend we just met let us try the octopus in olive oil. We liked it.

Google
First time visiting this cute wine bar. We went in the early evening so it wasn't crowded and we got excellent service. Huge selection of organic and bio dymamic wines from all over the world, but none from NC. They have a small tasting menu of unique meats, cheeses, olives and other items that pair well with wine. They do have a back patio but it's not as cool as the inside vibe. The only complaint I have is I feel like the music was too loud for the space. I have noticed this a lot in other places and sometimes it's hard to carry on a conversation with the other people you are sitting with. This place is on the main drag of NODA so unless you can walk there, use rideshare because parking is a challenge.

Quiet and quaint, great wine recommendations, we always split multiple bottles. The fancy caviar service is always fun

Google
Loved Bar à Vins in Charlotte NC. They have a super cute space. It’s very airy and inviting and in the back, there’s a bottle shop where you could buy wine and bring it home. The service and staff were super friendly, knowledgeable about the wine and cheese and accommodating. We ended up going with the fancy caviar service. I heard it’s half price on Tuesday so I would definitely go back for that. It was very good. I love that they served potato chips with it and crème fraiche. We also got two cheeses and the famous verdant bread. The bread was so absolutely delicious. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The butter was also phenomenal! The cheeses were amazing too. I can’t wait to go wait to go back and try other things!

Google
I’ve been here 3 times and absolutely love the atmosphere, wine selection, and food. The fact that they have all their white wines available chilled by the bottle is a huge plus for me in the hot summer months! However, when you order BTG, the bartender or waiter hand-pours the glasses and I have definitely been skimped both times I ordered. When paying $19 for a glass of champagne, it is disappointing to see a small serving poured (probably around 3oz like the other reviewer said) and then have other people at your table order wines poured by a different server with clearly a larger serving.

Google
A great spot to have close by with a lovely vibe! Always enjoy stopping by for a glass of wine or a spritz. The staff is super knowledgeable while not being pretentious, and are all approachable, kind, and cool. Their bread and butter is to die for as well. 10/10, no notes!

Google
Had an activation for oysters that they widely marketed. Bar was completely unprepared. Waited 40 min for the first 6 oysters. Another 25 for the next dozen (which were ordered at the same time as the first six). Were encouraged not to order bread to take pressure off the kitchen, but watched several customers come in after us and enjoy bread. Pretty disappointing experience, very clear they were just trying to sell $18 glasses of wine and either hadn’t thought through or had no intention of providing the advertised service to their customers.

Yelp
Beautiful atmospheric! Amazing wine selections! If you're wanting to venture your tastebuds come here. I personally had St. Cyr, Gamay, Beaujolais, from France and paired it with a delicious tomme chebris! Harry is extremely knowledgeable and helpful as well. Will definitely be coming back next time I visit Charlotte

Yelp
Bar a Vins describes themselves as a wine dive bar. I don't think I would go so far as to call them a dive bar, but it definitely has a laid back neighborhood atmosphere that may be a lot more comfortable to some than your typical wine bar. I have always been more of a beer guy, but I appreciate a nice glass of wine and like trying all different kinds. I stopped in on an early Friday evening and took a seat at the bar. I had an early morning planned and didn't want to stay out late but it had been a long week so I thought a glass or two was just what I needed. They serve by the bottle as well by the glass, and prices are pretty typical to what you would expect at a wine bar, that is to say, it isn't the cheapest way to drink. Still the atmosphere was cozy, with both couples and groups of friends as well as the other solo dwellers like myself all at home taking in the vibes. The bartenders are very knowledgeable about wine and they have great recommendations and very accurately were able to describe the different flavors of the two wines I ended up trying. Overall it was a very pleasant evening and I would recommend this place to wine lovers as well as those who want to try something new.

Yelp
So lovely!! We stopped in after work for a glass of wine and small bites and had a great experience. It is so nice being on the main drag in NoDa - great people watching! Harry was our server and was exceptional - he was knowledgeable about all the wines and unique meats/cheeses to build a charcuterie board. He helped us try wines we likely would have never gone for! The atmosphere is very minimalist with a focus on wine and one of the best parts for me personally, they played east coast hip hop the entire time! Parking is either street parking or paid public parking - I paid $10 for 2 hours so not too bad!

Yelp
Decent selection of wines and snacks to order as well. Cute date spot. Would have loved to have a flight for wine tasting to try a few options as well,

Yelp
If you're looking for a spot to chat with some friends and sip on some amazing wine then this is your place. The ambiance is always a vibe. The service is so nice and quick. The wine is DELISH & I love the small bites they offer.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday afternoon searching for a place to work and grab a bite. When I walked in around 12:30/1 pm, I was only the second part of the day. By the time I left at 5:30 pm, this place was buzzing. I ordered the marinated anchovies and the Aliso cheese. Both came with bread, so there was a ton to eat. The marinated anchovies were delicious. High-quality fish and super flavorful. The bread, butter and cheese were all delicious and high quality. I was complete with what was presented. Their wines are perfection. Not your run-of-the-mill selection. I had a Vinho Verde Tinto, a Nebbiolo and an excellent sommelier's choice. All in all, I think I took down five glasses from 12-5 pm, but I was super productive, which was a nice change of pace from the typical coffee house work vibe. I highly recommend this place for a lovely wine bar moment with friendske alone.

Yelp
This little hole in the wall was definitely a fun place to try on a date night or with a group of friends! The ambiance is extremely cool and the staff are very knowledgable about wine. I asked for something sweet and they educated me on how to ask for "sweet" wine, without referring to it as sweet. I loved the choice they chose for me (La Pepie Muscadet 2022) because it was sweet but not too sweet. The food options are slim, unless you like a tapas style of eating. We just got wine and then had dinner at another place in NoDa, but overall the vibes are really cute and I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
(10/8/23) I found myself in NODA for work and stopped in at Bar a Vins. It has a cozy, comfortable atmosphere. Harry was behind the bar. Harry is the resident sommelier and oenophile. He made a great suggestion for a non alcoholic wine. I was flabbergasted that such a thing existed. It was a riesling and it had a mineral finish. I paired it with a plate of smoked salmon with a verdant loaf, crème fresh and capers. It was light and filling. Bar a Vin has an extensive wine menu as well as a sheet of bites. I consider myself lucky to have been able to enjoy my time at this place. I will return.

Yelp
Rustic inside this was a little place we went to before dinner for pre drinks. Great little wine bar with a nice choice of reds, whites, Rosè and an orange wine . They carry beer too and some light snacks . Also a bottle shop where you can buy bottles to go. Looked like a great variety of stuff. I had the orange wine . Hadn't had it in awhile. Was nice and different , light and dry. Perfect for a warm day. My friend had the Rosè and said the same for that. Great wine glasses ! Light ware and nice shape. Loved them ! Great service at the table, they keep your water filled to. Casual place for a quiet drink . Nice bar area too. I love how they restored the walls exposed brick . Unusual. Will like to try some other stuff on their list next time ! Cute spot !

Yelp
A wonderful addition to the area! Love the laid back, yet elevated ambiance, making it such a comfortable spot to grab a drink and some snacks. We ordered a bottle of wine with a selection of different starters including the cheese board and burrata. The cheeseboard comes with a generous selection of different cheese - of your choosing. The burrata was delicious as well!

Yelp
Completely obsessed with this place! Bar à Vins has only been open for a couple of weeks; however, co-owner Natalie Stewart told me they've been slammed, "which is great!" she said, but something they didn't expect right off the bat. Friends and sommeliers Natalie and Jeff Kellogg just opened this 1,800-square ft wine bar in NoDa. Their goal: to offer affordable, approachable, and exciting wines. You can enjoy wines by the glass by the bottle (+ retail) AND there are even snacks (think @verdant Bread & Butter offering, Fancy Caviar Service with Lay's chips and crème fraiche for an approachable $18 or upgrade to fancier caviar for $36, an array of tinned fish, and more) Charlotte has been in desperate need for loungey, enjoy-in-house, wine-focused bars with COOL and EXCITING wines hand-selected by sommeliers who know their juice!! The space is gorgeous yet has this divey feeling to it. What I enjoyed on my first visit: a bottle of chilled orange wine, of course. The 2020 COS Pithos Bianco is made with organically farmed Grecanico grapes in Italy. I love the scent of pear, notes of dried apricot and minerals, and the thirst quenching finish of salinity! Fun fact: Well-known local Charlotte restaurateur and sommelier Katy Kindred designed the space.

Yelp
I have been dying to check out Bar a Vins since they opened up right around the corner from my apartment in Noda. I love wine, so I was excited about a wine bar right down the street! From first impression I thought the inside was a bit boring or bare. The ambiance wasn't cozy or even eclectic which you tend to see in wine bars. It wasn't very crowded when I stopped by but I chose to sit at the bar anyway because the tables seemed to be dark and pushed towards the back. Even though it wasn't crowded it was pretty loud in there. They should maybe consider adding in some sound absorbing padding to the ceiling or even on the walls/benches. There was an echoing effect in there. Not much else other than the tables and chairs. The wine was amazing though! My friend and I shared a bottle of the orange wine. I have had orange wine one other time and really loved it. It reminded me a bit of a pinot Grigio. Loved it and the color was pretty! There is a $10 corkage fee if you decide to enjoy your bottle in the bar, just a heads up! We also wanted to try the caviar and chips that I had been hearing about. We opted for the Fish roe with creme fresh and lays potato chips. Very great and interesting combination. A mixture of creamy, salty, crunchy and salty again from the burst of the caviar. I will definitely come back before dinner or something!

Bella M.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! If you go be sure to get the cowboy caviar. Staff was very nice and helpful picking tasty wine pairings.

Yelp
This was my 1st wine bar experience. The place was very full when we arrived at 8 o'clock. The server was attentive, and the wine list was extensive. You can order by the glass or by the bottle. They also had some meats and cheeses that you can get to accompany you are a wine tasting experience

Yelp
Last Friday was my first visit to Bar A Vins...it won't be my last. This wine bar is stylish, yet comfortable. I enjoyed a glass of wine that was golden in color with notes of honey. Just describe it to the general manager or Kenya and they will know exactly which one to serve you. By the way, service was top notch! For those of you who don't drink, there is a delicious non alcoholic version of wine available. This is a popular bar, so arrive early!

Yelp
I've always thought of NoDa as the home of hidden gems, but they've completely outdone themselves with Bar a Vins! Newly opened this past Spring, Bar a Vins is the mellow, unassuming wine bar with an amazing vibe that I never knew I needed...but now can't do without. From the mellow lighting & choice of bar, table, or cute corner seating to the AMAZING playlist--yes, I will take my wine with a side of 90's rap/R&B!--to the impressive wine selection, Bar a Vins delivers tens across the board. Add in excellent service & the true star of the show--$18 caviar service w/crème fraiche & Lays chips--and you've got one HIGHLY recommended experience. Cheers!

Yelp
Stopped in for a little "wine down" after a hefty dinner. My son and I have wanted to check this place out every since it opened a few months ago. I must say I was pleasantly pleased with everything. The ambience, the wine selection, the music, and the service was top notch. Our server, Kenya, was such a pleasant young lady who willingly answered questions and made excellent suggestions. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and will be sure to drop in again soon.

Yelp
Pictured: Fancy Caviar Service (9.5/10) Spiced Tuna Pate (8.5/10) Rosé (10/10) Reisling (10/10) Likes: This wine bar is very laid back and the staff is super helpful in assisting you with which wine to choose. I tried a couple different glasses and they were all delicious. The Caviar with the Lays was absolutely delicious, a totally unexpected combo that I will definitely be going back for soon! They have a HUGE bottle selection in the back and you can choose one to take home or enjoy in house! Dislikes: The bread was a little hard but overall I have no real dislikes for this super fun place! Overall Rating: 4.5

Yelp
Stopped in for a cool and refreshing glass of rosé before dinner. My friend suggested we try the caviar and potato chips. Odd combo but it was perfection! I would definitely come back for more and recommend this as a date night stop.

Yelp
If you are looking for a fun and laid back place to enjoy a glass of wine with some delicious snacks I highly recommend Bar A Vins! I've tried their fancy caviar service, bread & butter, cheese board and enjoyed all of them! They also source from local small businesses with great quality products like Verdant Bread and Orrman's Cheese Shop which means by supporting one small business you also get to support other incredible shops in CLT win/win ! Service can feel a tad slow at times, but they are always quick to assist if you approach the bar. It's one of my go to places for a date night or to chat with friends!

Yelp
This is a really cool and chill spot for a girls or date night. This is also a great spot for day drinking which is how I experienced Bar a Vins during Memorial weekend. Me and a friend were in NoDa and decided to stop in after lunch and enjoy a glass of wine. The owner actually suggested wines for us based on what we told her we typically like and she was SPOT ON. I wish I remembered what I drank but it was such a light and crisp white wine. A very easy sip. If I hadn't already eaten, I would've ordered the caviar and potato chips. Nice bar set up as well as an airy seating area. There are plenty of bottles of wine to browse and the owner is very knowledgeable, in case you are a wine snob and/or know someone who is.

Yelp
Great wine selection and old school hip hop. Obsessed. The vibes here are excellent. The bartender/somm was outstanding, very chill and gave great recommendations - he was a mind reader! Cannot wait to go back.

Cherisse H.

Yelp
NoDa needed a wine bar and I love this one! Great wine list, I'm really a new wine drinker and I'm not snobby about Grand Crus or buying expensive bottles to show off and this is a very easy, approachable spot. Ended a rainy night here and was more than pleased. Sasha and Kenya offered great service and recommendations on their by the glass list. I could've bought a bottle but didn't. Just enjoyed the cute space and easy going vibe while I was there. Snacks seemed to be enjoyed by the others around me, but I'm just not all that into charcuterie or caviar. The Bouzeron is nice! I can't wait to try more. Great quality wines, glass and service.
google avatar

Karmen G.

Yelp
Welcome to the neighborhood!! Obsessed with the menu, from the wine to the snacks .. can't wait to become a regular!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here on a Friday and it was very loud; we could not even hear the music. Sound panels would probably help. There were only two people working so the service was slow but they were very friendly. I would come back but not in a hurry.

Yelp
This place was great! Good vibe and friendly staff, Kenya was the best. Definitely be back soon!

Austin R.

Yelp
Loved everything about this place. High quality service with great recommendations. If you want unique wines, great vibes and a place to actually carry on a conversation without the music overwhelming you, this is your place. Will definitely return.

Yelp
Great service. Better wine. Amazing atmosphere. Must try for any wine fans. Great addition to NODA/Charlotte

Edward K.

Yelp
Love this place! Perfect blend of NoDa and side street French wine bar. Super cool selections on BTG and bottle menu, snacks are super delicious and seriously cool caviar options! Always playing great music too. Owners are rockstar cool wine people without being snobby and the whole team is awesome. So happy they opened and will keep coming back!
